Hi Jara! One of the most important things I discovered is the water I use is SO important to the taste of your final product. I've done taste tests using tap water, filtered water, spring water, etc. I used THRIVE milk with some, nonfat powdered with others. I encourage anyone who doesn't think they can drink powdered milk, experiment to find out the best way to mix it up so you like it.
Which water did you prefer with powdered milk? I grew up in 3rd world countries and yes your right about the water making a big difference distilled water and ice cold but again if no power and no way to get to store distilled water might not be available and safe water from tap might not be there either so having a Berkley filter is a must and a little wagon you can hike to a river, lake, pond, creek load up gallons of jugs and get it back home hence little wagon will get you back with more than 2 gallons 😁
Great tip!
I mix powdered milk and powdered sugar for my coffee creamer. I also have added powdered vanilla. Very good. All natural. ❤
Milk powder today is so different from years ago. Growing up, my dad got spinal meningitis and we had no income. We then got assistance and that included that awful tasting c Milk. I now have different milk powders I've been stocking for years. Thank you for all your prepping knowledge. I even made a notebook titled "Jara's JAW meals.
That's so great to hear! Thank you so much for watching and following along! I appreciate you 😊
Those powdered creamers that have all that yucky stuff in it you cannot buy easily in Australia because we have a different Food and Drug administration here and they just tell you to buy powdered milk instead......we also don't have cool whip and we just use whipped cream.......Shelf stable and powdered milk is becoming popular here though because even if you live a few minutes from a supermarket who wants to be driving there every second day to buy fresh milk?
Be very happy that your FDA doesn't allow all those chemicals! Our food in the US is nasty!
Very interesting! Thank you for that!
wow I actually LOVE non dairy powdered creamer. I love the flavor, I like it in coffee, I have even used it as a topping on stuff. I could eat that stuff plain for a snack if I let myself
Hi Jara! Thank you for this video! I almost didn't clock6 to watch bc I need another stockpile item video like I need another hole in my head, lol. I'm SO GLAD I watched! I saved it & will go back to write instructions. Then I can make my list of items extra to buy & store. Making these dairy items would be crucial in a grid down situation.
Many Blessings from Deborah in West Virginia!
Wow this is excellent! I do hope you will do a Part 2 for sure! Wonderful to know!! I basically use milk powder to make up mixes such as pancake mix, cream of chicken soup mix, and gravy mixes, etc.
One thing that I would like to see is a basic "cream of" soup mix. Also, any type of ready-made shelf stable mixes and how to use them. I know that you have probably done some of these, but a "refresher course" would be nice .
Yes, and a video using store bought products to make meals in a jar, I can’t afford a $30 can of freeze dried product. 😢
Well, you convinced me to buy another 10 pack case of milk lol thankssss...that's my 3rd one this month lololol
Jara, you area genius! Who knew you could make all of these dairy products with powdered milk?! Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom.
This a wonderful and very useful video. I have just started using freeze dried foods so all of your videos get me excited about getting meals on the shelf. I can't wait for part 2!!
Sounds great!
These recipes are staples I never knew could be made with powdered milk! I’m amazed! Do you have a cookbook with useful recipes like this along with your faves?
Jara, you never cease to amaze me! I wrote down everything you did along the way. I truly think you were right about having been a 40's homemaker!!! This was an awesome video and I can't wait to try myself! Here I am at 71 learning again! My mom never did any of this so I never learned and then of course came my career of 40 years. But it's never too late to learn and I appreciate your teachings! You are still my favorite! God Bless! On to your next video. Had company for a while so missed some!🥛
I’m 73 and I’m writing this stuff down👍👵😃
Great video! Didn’t know you could make all of this from powdered milk. I love those parfaits ❤️🥛
Walmart powdered milk is so inexpensive -- the quart mylar bags in boxes of 10 - and tastes just like skim milk (our favorite) which is of course just what it is. As you mention, the key is to chill it well before drinking. We always have months' worth on hand, and when milk prices shot up during the pandemic, we saved SO much money using some of our cheaply bought stash.
I would love a copy of your recipes for these products if you will share them. Plz Thanks
First time watcher. My mom's family is Hungarian. For Easter they made a thing called rutka (not sure of spelling). You whisk a dozen eggs, a quart of milk, and a teaspoon of salt, in a pot over low heat until curds and whey form. It gets strained through cheese cloth just like your cream cheese. But then you twist the cloth around the solids, tie it with string, and hang overnight in the fridge with a bowl under it to catch more whey. It's like an egg cheese that you eat cold, just slice and eat.
For Easter we would shape it like an egg when squeezing over a strainer. Then after chilling place whole cloves in the shape of a cross, and brown under a broiler until lightly browned. But that was just decorative, you can skip that part since it doesn't change taste or consistency. I thought you might be interested in this recipe.
Wow that is very interesting! I love traditions of other countries! I might have to try this! No acid in the milk mixture? Just the eggs milk and salt?
Just the 3 items.
Very helpful ideas. Powdered Milk as a staple … who knew there were so many uses. 🥛
🥛 I got a lot out of this . Thank you! I already make Greek yogurt but I can’t wait to try cream cheese.
I have a lot of whole milk powder. Can i use that?
Thank you for such a great how-to video!! I learned a lot & appreciate it very much❤
Thank you for this! I have TL instant milk in my long term storage but wasn't really sure what to do with it!
You are so welcome!
I add a table spoon of home made jam to plain yogurt to make it sweeten fruited yogurt.
That sounds delicious! 😋
I had to go and check. Yep! 3 more cans on the way! Thanks for showing us how to use our pantry items once we have them. ❤
Your videos are the next best thing to having you as a neighbor. Have learned so much, thank you.v😊❤️
Awesome Jara. Thank you 😊 . The videos you have made are very useful and I look forward to a part 2. 🥛 I have thrive milk on order
This video is very knowledgeable. I had no idea it could be so easy. Ty Jara🥛
Hi Jara! Oh yes, milk powder is one of my most important pantry staples!
Hi Millie, thank you for checking in!
I love your videos. I just bought 40 lbs of flour and 20 lbs of rice with everything happening in the world. I have a 6 month to 1 yr working storage pantry and have been maintaining it for over 10yrs. I go by the same concepts you talk about. Keep doing the great works and informing those so they will be prepared also. Have a great week 😀
I have managed to find powdered buttermilk.I think at Big Lotts.
Oh wow! That's awesome!
Most grocery stores sell it in the powdered milk section.
Thank you, Jara, this has so many great ideas. I always keep regular milk powder and buttermilk powder on hand. Can’t wait to try making the cream cheese.🥛
Plant as many perennials veggies as possible. Same goes for orchard plants ( berry and stone fruit) the lettuce is a wonderful year round item to grow.
Brilliant video, thank you. Definitely a second video please.
You got it!
🥛loved this video, going to have to watch it over and over so l can write it down in a spiral note book of my recipes and ideas.
This is the best.Thank you!🥛
Thank you for watching, Connie!
🥛 Excellent tips here! Thanks. I'm going to try this cream cheese recipe it looks good. God bless. ❤
I'm saving this video for the receipts. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much! I have a huge can of powdered milk, and now I know that I can make different things with it!
Glad I could help!
Made it. Great work. Thank you
This is awesome!! Thank you so much! I love Thrive foods and just ordered 40 pantry cans of milk from them. I greatly appreciate you showing us how to make all these yummy products!
Thank you!
FABULOUS tutorial on how to use this pantry staple. I learned so much watching this video... Which i seem to say aboutost of your videos ❤️
Great video!! I always keep powdered milk in my preps but I never thought of making cream cheese! We made cottage cheese from our cows milk but this inspires me!
Thank you for the video. It really helps
This was a very good video! Thanks jara!
You're so welcome!
🥛🥛 I saved this video for reference! Thanks for the excellent ideas & recipes
Wow! This video is so full of information! Thank you for sharing.
I have used powdered milk for years and add I can of evaporated milk to 2 qts. I recently tried adding a tablespoon of butter flakes and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Very drinkable or add chocolate or strawberry quik powder. I also have recipes for making excellent yogurt out of plain powdered milk using yogurt culture. So easy
Great ideas, thx!
Is the thrive life milk non-fat or whole? How does the taste compare to Nido? And are you still happy with your canisters, are they holding up well?
looking forward to part two! Thanks for all that you do and show us. 🥛
Absolutely! It's my pleasure!
Excellent information I didn’t even know I needed. Can’t thank you enough for sharing. ❣️
Fantastic information! I cant wait to try a few of these!
Thank you for all these food products!
Great info, thank you
🥛 great video!! Thank you for sharing all these ways to use milk powder!
🥛 What a slew of recipes to try!
Oh, regarding the ricotta, mix some in your pancake or waffle batter. Makes it a little lighter. And a lot yummier.
🍶closest thing to a glass of milk I could find. I would love to see more recipes for instant milk!
Wow! Your family is going to be so lucky that they have you! I prep some but I'm 66 years old so if we have to bug out I'm just going to send my family on their way and stay home and wait for the end. I would only slow them down and get them killed.
I don’t have any powdered milk stored actually. I do have some cans of evaporated milk though. I figured I could water that down and cook with it as an emergency. I should get some powered milk. Or shelf stable tetra pack milk or something
I do know that powdered milk can be used to make Burfi dessert though, and I love that.
What a great video to prepping and cooking from your food storage.
Hey Guys, More rain ,what do ya know.. Always have 3 big boxes of powdered milk.. Use it always in my mashed potatoes..Save some of the boil water and put a hand full of powder in , butter , blue bonnet , salt and pound the peppa to it.. Give it a try.. That sounds like a good tip Mr. Quigley!! Did you see I let Rob make a special appearance in this video?? It was real quick! Then back into the canister he went! Ayuhhh!! 🤣
Great video! , Thank you !!!
Thank you so very much!
These are honestly so great!!!
Enjoyed the video! 🥛
🥛loved this video. Watching from Canada and need to find this milk on sale!
Awesome video!!
Wow never thought of making any of these. Thank you 🥛🥛
You’re welcome 😊
Im going to make my Thrive Life milk for my girls this week to try ti and make a purchase for more. Thank you for reminding me.
Thank you, Jara. I just ordered a case of the milk on sale. Have three grandchildren and if they ever need milk at their home, I'll have it. Great video.
Awesome!! Thank you so much! 😊 Do I have you on my customer list, Jessica?
@@wickedprepared no. I’m Teri. My daughter is Jessica. I am her army, hence my names jessicasarmy. I don’t believe I’m on your customer list but I shopped through your link. 😀
Oh sorry .. Teri 😬😊 I'd love to make sure you're on my list, especially if you're already shopping through my link. If you could, text me at 207-762-7138 so we can make sure you're on my list 😊
Thanks for the tips, jumped over to order some TL powdered milk
Awesome!! Thank you so much for watching!
🥛 Thank you!
🥛I may have missed this in the video but is there a difference between TL Instant Milk and powdered milk bought at a grocery store? (Just discovered your channel yesterday. I have a lot of catching up to do with your content esp meals in a jar)
Excellent video, I never knew all the tings you could do wit dry 🥛
Great video. I always open instant milk , and it goes bad before I use it again.
Great video Jara! Had no idea we could make our own cream cheese & s.c.m. = amazing! THANK YOU! Love that mini processor - ordering that for sure. P.S. I have Thrive Products on a monthly auto ship (around the 15th of each month) milk is in my order & scheduled to ship BUT will I still get the discount or do i have to do a one time separate order? Tia!
That's awesome!! Thank you Tia 😊 So in order to take advantage of this deal on the milk, you will have to order before the end of the day tomorrow (7/31). The easiest thing to do would be to create your order and click "Ship Now"... if you can, text me at 207-762-7138 and I can help you out with that and make sure I have you on my customer list 😊
Idk how I missed you. I never ran across you until today. I subscribed.
Great video.
Thanks!
Thank you for doing this. Its nice to have multiple uses for my storage. How much vinegar did you use in your cream cheese, and would it help to just add heavy cream powder in with the powdered milk to begin with for the ricotta cheese?
I love your videos. How did you learn to do this? Do you have a book explaining these recipes and how to do them? I would love to be able to do them !
Woah this is awesome I'm gonna try making my own creamcheese now!
Go for it! Definitely 😊 Let me know how it turns out 😊😊😊
This was great! Looking forward to part 2. Do you just get your heavy cream powder on Amazon or is there a specific store? Also can we use slow cooker instead of an instapot?🥛
🥛great idea, funny I just bought some single milks.
Really enjoyed your video excellent content. Looking forward to cream cheese.
SUPER GREAT TRAINING VIDEO
❤❤❤❤
Love my ember mug also
That yogurt looks amazing. Will definitely try it.can you use any instant powdered milk?
Whey is perfect as well for your tomato plants. They love it. I dehydrate mine as well to make an unflavored protein powder. So versatile, you can reconstitute it if you need to but I just add to morning smoothies. Get the usb shake blender! Can be charged on portable power pack or a regular portable power station. Love for camping.
Awesome to know about the tomato plants! How much powder did you you get from dehydrating it? I actually thought about freeze drying some but then just looking at it, it looks so clear I wasn't sure what yield I would actually get and if it would be worth freeze drying? I wonder if you can boil it for a while first to remove some of the water and concentrate it? 🤔 And yes I want one of those blenders!
@@wickedprepared I make a LOT of yogurt in the IP. The whey amount varies. I use a silicone sheet cut to size and turned up on the ends with binder clips to hold the whey. Let’s just say I have a 1/2 gallon of unflavored protein powder at any given time. Lol. The batch I made yesterday? It was a quart of drained whey that I fed to the tomatoes instead of dehydrating for myself. Totally worth not wasting it. Some people give the whey to chickens, so that’s an option as well if you have them (my dream).
I use the instant milk to make my hot cocoa mix, chai tea blend and other "add hot water" drink mixes all year long. Have you been able to determine how long the mixed milk will last once it is made up and refrigerated?
We use a lot of powdered milk for drinking and cooking. YMMV but for us, it's 3-4 days at most. Two to three days for sure the taste keeps up. The good part is that you can easily make as much or little as you need to last a couple days.
Did not know powdered milk was so versatile! Cream cheese. Yum!
Not sure how anyone else uses it, but I find it tastes better if I add more than the directions suggest, especially with the nonfat milk powder.
What’s really the difference between whey milk and regular instant milk. And do you need to have a membership to thrive in order to get the benefits and savings.
Instant milk powder is simply milk from which the water has been removed. It contains all the nutrients of milk except for vitamin C, thiamin and vitamin B12. The powder is 80 percent casein and 20 percent whey protein. Whey protein powder is a derivative of milk, but it is 100 percent whey protein.
As far as Thrive Life, there's no need to have a membership or lock yourself into anything. You can just purchase straight from the website wickedprepared.thrivelife.com/
They do offer an option for "Monthly Delivery" which gives you access to all sale prices, 15% off all retail prices, and free shipping on orders over $100. And the best part is, you can pause, skip, or cancel any time. So you're not going to be required to order or forced into anything. You just order what you want .. when you want it 😊
@@wickedprepared thank you this helps my decision on ordering. I thought I had to have a membership but since I don’t there’s a few things I want to order
Thanks going to join the thrive market
😊 Be sure to follow wickedprepared.thrivelife.com/
There is a difference between Thrive Market and Thrive Life (which is where Jara's products come from).
I tried this a little while ago. It may work fine with city water. Did nothing I have well water. I even dumped in all the packets .... Nothing happened.
I just found powdered coconut cream at the Oriental store for around a dollar.
Want water? While you have the time, drill a well right through the floor of your house. Now you have water. You won't even have to purifier it.
I ❤ 🥛. Thanks!
Hi , question, will this work with all milk powder, can you do this with shelf milk?
🥛🥛🥛🥛🥛 Your videos are GOLD!
