    My homeboy Tom Tom worked mounting and balancing tires for years. His advice was this: If the balancer is telling you that you need 1.5 oz. or more wheel weight then break the tire off the rim, turn it 90 degrees and try again. Of course sometimes you don’t have the time and just have to hang a yard of scrap metal on the rim. BUT - if you have the time, don’t be afraid to start from scratch.

    When I used to do this work I never placed the metal cone center spacers on the inside of aluminum wheels that have the small center holes..its much faster and better to use it on the outside of the center hole and remove the plastic cone from the fastener which forces the wheel to be perfectly centered on the balancer. The only time I had to do it the "normal" way was larger center hole steel wheels.

    Good video, in particular to the demonstration of how the equipment needs to be setup and how well its held up in a garage.
    That extra roller arm levering on the head is really handy to convert a lower spec machine with no assist arms,
    Couldn't help notice that the wheel when being balanced is visibly buckled though.

    I would suggest you put the tire/wheel combo on the balancer before the cone if you have clearance to the machine. Having the rim against the large diameter mounting surface will keep the tire vertical. Place the cone on after the wheel and use the screw ring with the small flush insert to tighten up the tire against the cone while hand rotating. If there is tire wobble there is something wrong with how the assembly is on the balancer, or a bad rim.

    If you balance a tire, take it off the machine and put it right back on, does it still show a good balance? i am thinking of getting one of these for my own personal use.

    Hi
    I just purchase the same may flower tire changer and balancer combo with the exact assist arm as your.
    But my assist arm hydraulic assist arm is not functional. When I push the switch up or down to lower assist arm or move up
    It doesn’t respond. Is there an on or off switch to it?
    There is only 3 hose on the back that I color match when I connected them.
    Please share if I miss any thing to get it to work I would really appreciated you
    Thank you
    Tien

    Guess you forget one thing: On each tire, there is at least one yellow/red spot that usually needs to be side by side with the valve to make the balancing easier. If there are a red and a yellow, put the red with the valve.

      You can but you risk scratching the rim that way

    • @ksauto1
      @ksauto1 5 місяців тому

      @@biturbos4 doing mechanic work for a living for over 30 years-time is money. it will sometimes leave the tinniest little dimples on the inside of the rim that you need to look for to see. unless your doing a show car where everything is inspected under a microscope I would not bother doing it the other way.

    • @ksauto1
      @ksauto1 5 місяців тому

      @@biturbos4 another bonus of doing it the way I do is the arms are pulled in to begin with making it easier to break the bead on the tire, you dont need to worry as much about if there is room that the tire will hit one of the clys. once bead is broken just throw tire on top of table and hit the pedal. the pads will come out and grab the rim and be centered right away, no playing around to make sure they have grabbed the rim and are level.

    curious as to what at 1:03 of video, what adjustments that bolt allows you to adjust. i work with this machine and been having the problem of the demount/ mount arm push up even after i lock the lever. tires are lubed very well as i do alot of 35-40 series tires. really looking into a better duck head for the super low profiles im working with but alot of mix reviews saying this silver duck head is superior to the black and red ones. any info would be greatly appreciated

    Just be mindful when you put stick on weights on top of stick on weight that when you put it on the car that there might not be a lot of room between the caliper and the wheel weights and it may rip them off

    Instead of adding more weight when the wheel doesn't balance out on the confirmation spin, just advance or retard the weight's position on the wheel just a little. A true balance on a tire will use no more weight than called for. Use tape to secure your stick ons, this way you can move them around before permanently attaching them. The true mark of a tire clown is weights all over the rim, or piled on top of others, and it's a sure way to get shake/vibration. Sometimes you can't get around an additional 7g(1/4 oz) counter weight added in a third position, but it's the exception not the norm.
