Leaving the UK for a better life in Thailand EP 15. Handing spare keys to Estate Agents. I'm HAPPY!

- This was recorded in January 2024 when I finally got the flat on the market. The FD30 fire door and window was fitted and it was the last part of the jigsaw!
All my hard work had paid off but it came at a price, I was mentally and physically drained and the pains in my foot, leg and back were at an all-time high.
As you know, I've lived in Thailand since Feb 2024 and I'm determined to stay here forever. I can not touch the money I got from the sale of the flat, that is invested for Chloe to enjoy when I'm gone. All I have is my personal savings and this will run out eventually unless I can build my channel back to where it was before.

Or use the superchat thing :) I thank every one of you who have already pledged money, it's helped me fulfil my dream and got me out of pain!
Good luck on your next chapter.
Awesome to hear you have support from your family. I had forgotten how cold it is in the UK. 17years i n the sun for me, no regrets,
I've been here for 7 months now. At first, I missed the UK summer but now, I'm glad that I sold everything to live here in the sun.
Absolutely no regrets.
Good luck to you hope you have good health insurance , l am sure you have all that sorted will be following you. I am 71 and frightened to fully commit to Thailand .
Don't' be. You will love it!
I've been here for 7 months now and I've never looked back. I'm self insuring because the only decent health insurance had a £6k excess! Worst case scenario I'll have to return to the UK for treatment but otherwise, I'll happily pay for it myself.
Don't be frightened to fully commit, life is way too short to not follow your dreams.
@@Vortecks Hospital treatment is very inexpensive, the waiting lists are non existent and quality is amazing.
@@large4u I will return to the UK, happily, only in a box. I have had excellent treatment in every health centre, public hospital, or private clinic, and could possibly not be more impressed with the quality of service.
The clinics are everywhere! Compare prices to the UK and see.
Do you follow 'retired and living the dream'
100%
Interesting as will be making the move to Thailand ( have lived there before for few yrs) within 18 months myself as have house here to either rent out or sell….renting out will provide an income as no good going to Thailand & living without an income unless you have a pension….its a big move for sure n not easy…esp as got an elderly mum too…Good to see you with the property getting it ready to sell on etc…liked & subbed🤔👍🏼🙏
Cheers mate 😁
I calculated that the money I've got will last me until I draw my pension if things don't work out so I'm fine.
I've actually lived here for 8 months now and I'm loving it, I'm not in any pain now which is the main reason I moved here and I can walk out of the door and immediately see happy faces 😁
@@Vortecks that’s good. As long as stay clear from getting involved with bargirls or freelancers…who will latch onto you to drain your money away…then u will be ok.
I have been to Thailand many times as well as the Philippines. These places are fine so long as you have money and you need a regular income stream. And remember one thing when you get over there that you are no longer on holiday. And whatever medical issues you have are not going to go away.. Wherever you live after a short honeymoon period will quickly become the norm. I will return to Jomtien for an extended holiday next February but I will never consider leaving the UK on a permanent basis. But I wish good luck in the next chapter of your life.
Tony's already been in Thailand since Feb or March 24...... His pains are one hell of a lot better... Mostly because the massages keep the nerves movable.....
Yes, I've been here since Feb 14th and I don't regret anything. I no longer suffer with back & leg pains because Thai medical massages cure everything.
Am I happy? Oh yes!
Good luck tony, but remember always check the engine before taking a ride😂😂😂 can never be too careful or you may get a suprise😂 if your always cold you might have thin blood. Value all your items as a £1 say you bought them at a boot sale your laptop is broken take a key cap off 😜 it's amazing when you pack your things up. And that's your life. That's you that's your possessions.
Been in Thailand escaping the English winter for 7 years now having to face this winter dreading it is an understatement
UK sucks , what you should do is try living in Australia instead as a friend of mine she got refugee status there and it is way better and the people actually help each other in OZ where as in the UK i could be found dead in my bed in 3 months time as no one ever knocks at the door to see if im alive or dead , it is not a nice place to live in the UK.
I've been in Thailand for 7 months and now the English winter is coming, I'm so glad that I'm here.
I got cold the other day because the temperature went down to 26c, I actually put my hoodie on 🤣
@@Vortecks The video was put up a day ago, and you have been in Thailand for 7 months, please explain? Just subscribed by the way.
@@Vortecks LMAO lucky sod
Only 85k is covered in a UK account
Have more than one Bank a/c .
One instant access account, one 6 month fixed account & one 12 month growth bond. All should pay between 4.7 & 5.4%.
Except with NS&I accounts. £2 million is covered.
Open multiple savings accounts with the same back as i think thats one way of bending the rules or just get 3 or 4 different bank accounts with different banks ?
@@christineayres7199 No, the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) does not cover each account separately. The FSCS only protects up to £85,000 in TOTAL across all accounts held with a bank, building society, or credit union. You must open accounts with multiple banks.
Best wishes on your journey. I don't understand how your flat only got an E rating. I would have rented it out for 12 months first before considering selling it.
I couldn't have rented it out, it was actually a G rating which means I might as well have taken the roof off. Nearly everything on the list was "assumed" because he couldn't gain access to check anything (above ceiling area) or there was no paperwork to back anything up because it was done by the landlords (cavity wall insulation).
Even if I'd obtained all the paperwork and cut a hole in the ceiling, it would have been an E rating which still means that legally, I couldn't have rented it out.
E rating is very low. You will have to price your property correctly, if you want it to sell quick.
It was actually a G rating which means I might as well take the roof off. The flat sold to the first person and I got way more than I thought it was worth.
Good morning Tony, I guess you didn't go to Chang Rai.
The weather is still not great up here in the North of Thailand.
Sorry mate, no I didn't because of the potentially lethal weather. I'm planning on heading up there at the beginning of next month now.
@Vortecks I sent you an email about the weather up here.
Take care buddy.
How did it work out taking so much luggage? When I have travelled to Thailand, it has been one check-in bag and one carry on bag. Did you have to pay extra to take extra luggage and what sort of cost was associated with that?
Yes, I had to pay for extra baggage (2 x 30kg cases). It was an additional £284 but this was for a one way ticket.
If you dont' mind my asking, do you have any advice on income streams to enable the move, I'm looking to do the exact same thing, but sadly my funds are just shy of 20k, not exactly enough to retire on :(
Investing your money is something to consider. Then, there's youtube which pays pennies but it all helps.
I'm lucky, if the s*** hits the fan, I have enough to live off if I'm careful.
do you still have uk bank accounts, how does that work if you don't have a uk address? I may be following your steps in approx 10 years, maybe less. All my life in the building trade and i'm having trouble getting a couple of days work a week, what happened to this country
Yes mate, I still have my UK account. I called the bank before I left and asked if it would be OK - they said that it's fine as long as you have a forwarding address and (off the record) you keep your account alive with at least a DD going out.
I'd have thought the building trade was one of the busiest professions in the UK now? Indeed, what happened?
@@Vortecks i've always had more work than i needed, kept me in thai holidays for 19 years , then after the C event things just plumetted, some i know are busy, maybe i've been cancelled
I sold up twenty odd years ago, Put the keys thru the letterbox and never looked back until five years ago to put my son through schooling 😒. I hate the UK with a vengeance but have to think of my son and wife, You will struggle to work legally in Thailand and one bit of advice is learn Thai it was the best thing I did!
I was wondering if you got your xd4 in the UK & took it with, or got it out there.
I looked at the price over here in Thailand and it was the same, so I thought I'd get it in the UK. I had to do my modifications to it with the camera mount and microphone so I needed to have some known suppliers around me.
@Vortecks i got my xd4 for a deal. But its the more shiny diamond black one. Been playing with j22 BT and zst in ear monitors for cheap temp solution. I muffed up the were some killer deals on gopro 10's just before 13 came out. but I missed it. Other priorities .
To be fair Tony, I think I would be feeling absolutely the same as your last sentence if I was in your position, and I'm hoping to be in some years time! Sadly, I have got some years to wait (10+).
Cheers mate but don't leave it too late, it's your life and no one else cares about it but you.
What’s the longest time in one lump you ever spent in Thailand
8 months and counting. I've never looked back and I've never been this happy for so long.
Good luck to you buddy but remember those places are only good when you have cash in your pocket, never expect at free lunch
he if he stayed in the uk he wouldn't afford to breathe on a state pension
Cheers mate, I've been here 8 months now and never looked back :)
I left the uk 14 yrs ago for Thailand best move ever
According to some of the comments, you've done well mate. They reckon that expats have a 5 year shelf life before they think "what have I done" and then they go back home.
I've been here for 8 months and I haven't regretted anything, it's a completely different world over here to the one that I knew and I couldn't be happier.
I wouldn't go putting all my eggs in one basket with Thailand especially these days it's not what it was ten to fifteen years ago with expat foreigners . Back then the farangs had a shelf life of around five years in Thailand before they hit the what am I doing here brick wall reality . Now the nearly arrived farangs last about twelve months or two years tops and regret the move .
absolute rubbish
He is talking a lot of sense
please listen to the comments Sorry many not so good to sell up and leave is not a good idea
After 30 years of thailand am still trying to live there Nothing is ever going to be yours When all money gone what will you do
no state help as in UK No work to earn money English language not your new country language Am very experienced of thai life no hotels endless cafes Then only friends same as your self when in thailand I live apart from foreigner yes I meet some
Then you have your mother she is so important to you please understand the topic is huge move to thailand
Getting a key cut
seems so important
oh easy timpsons think where do you go in thailand
you carnt own a land in thailand
you can rent places but what will you do no money left If you have only experienced Pattaya and Joitiem Stop right now
Perhaps ask around a little more do your home work .
Am doing well then 14 yrs I Thailand
How old are you!!!! Love to follow in your foot steps 👍
I presume that is a question and not something my parents said to me when I was a kid?
I'm 58.
@@Vortecks yes I question 😂🤣😂 just getting away from life and starting a fresh somewhere new and exciting enjoy 👍
Stop with the whining, show us how you dodge traffic in Thai, balls of steel!
I've got quite a few videos of me, dodging traffic but it's on my scooter. It's total mania, loads of fun and it makes my balls grow. I don't want to publish them, my family watches my videos 🤣
@@Vortecks Make a members only videos, maybe your family is stingy and won't pay to see that :)
Hi mate, I thought you said all of the money is going into an account for your daughter? Now you are saying you want quick access to it?
Yes mate, I did it with my normal banking company but the proviso was that I can get instant access to it. I could have got a higher interest rate if I'd locked it in for years but I can't afford to take that chance.
I feel exactly the same about this country it’s gone to pot. I’m about 10 years behind you before I can make the move. All the best for the future 👍
After being here for 7 months, I've come to the conclusion that I'm stupid....... I should have made the move years ago 😁
@@Vortecks Well I moved to Thailand in 1990 so that's 34 years now and I was made redundant around 15 years ago so not worked since.
Some negative comments here which I don't agree with at all.
You have made a good decision.
Yes Nice Reply 💯
