- On June 4th, 2020, an 8 month pregnant Tshego was on her way to meet with the father of her baby to discuss plans for their daughter's arrival. However, when she didn't return home as expected, her worried family immediately reported her as missing. However, only a day later, Tshego's body would be found hanging from a tree, after being savagely murdered. Who could have possibly wanted to harm this beautiful, young, expecting mother?

I don’t think your argument was about anyone’s beliefs on abortion. If the laws say a fetus is a person after three months then that should be applied across the board. It is hypocritical that he wasn’t charged with two counts of murder.
Thank you for doing a South African case. I'm from Johannesburg South Africa, it was a tremendous relief that Tsego was found so soon after disappearing. So many other victims are never found. Violence against women is out of control in our beautiful Country.

If the child had been delivered at 8 months it would LIVE so at that stage it was indeed a fully formed human.

Hey Rachel, I’m a lawyer in South Africa. I understand the frustration arising from Shoba only being charged with one murder. However, the law in South Africa states that a person or baby will be deemed a legal person only if the baby has been completely removed from the mother’s womb/body, it is not necessary for the umbilical cord to be severed but the mother and the baby have to be separated and the baby has to have taken at least one breath with his/her own lungs in order for her/him to be legally recognised as a person. So according to the South African constitution, Shoba cannot be charged with murder for the unborn baby.

As a South African woman, this case was one of the few that tore our trust in the men of SA. We were, and remain outraged, by this heinous crimes against women. Ladies, if you find yourself pregnant with a mans child that is not there emotionally or financially it honestly is safer to do it on your own. The massive number of women that are murdered due to an unwanted pregnancy by the man and the issue of child support also has become very dangerous and sometimes a death sentence it seems.
By no way am i victim blaming either i just see that its just not worth the risk of your life, and we are more than capable of raising a child without a willing father of the child.
Yes, it was pretty clear where he stood with how easy it was to make her abort the first one. That's a huge red flag that he didn't value life, hers or the babies.
So two consenting adults, have an abortion the first time but do not take precautions afterward, so the scenario repeats with murder of mother and child. Woman or man when you are so blinded to a lovers web of lies unfortunately you are then too vulnerable
He states how much he didn’t want a baby but what did he to prevent it? Clearly nothing….don’t perform in an action if you can’t deal with the consequences. What a selfish disgusting person. I hope every second of every day his decisions that he made haunt him. Rip precious baby and momma 🥺❤️👼

It’s very sad to me. I’ve worked with babies as young as 24 weeks when born. 8 months is so viable outside of the mother and I wish that was considered
I honestly wonder had the baby been a boy if he would have been charged with murder of the poor kiddo.

Not only did this beautiful woman lose her life, so did her unborn daughter. I live in South Africa and hearing about this was so heartbreaking. I cried for this poor girl. So many women were killed in the same month as her, that our president had to speak on tv about the killings. It was just so shocking and horrific. The whole nation mourned. In all the cities we march for all women who are being abused and for those who passed away.

I agree that he should have been charged with the murder of the baby too. As far along as she was it could have survived outside the womb. Also as you stated, if she would have been charged for aborting at that stage so he should have been charged.

Hi Rachel. Loved the way you provided this case! I do agree he should have been charged for 2 murders, even tho I’m pro choice. However, regardless of if the baby is viable or not; I’ve seen plenty of cases where someone is charged 2 counts for killing a pregnant woman. I’m pretty sure they’ve argued that there is proof the mother indicated she wanted to continue pregnancy. I also think it should be considered 2 counts of murder before viability, as I believe it’s woman’s choice and that choice wasn’t made by her. I’m not sure if I’m making any sense, but I think it’s bs he wasn’t charged for 2 counts.
This case is so devastating, and she had a beautiful life ahead of her, and it was just stripped away. 😭💔

A lesson to learn from this case is be careful who you share your life with. If a man treats you like an option get out ASAP. Otherwise you may end up another statistic. Violence against women and children in South Africa happens every minute of every day. Sadly there is no hope in sight
It's not the woman's fault for falling victim to a vindictive man. It's not our responsibility to be on the lookout with every man we encounter with and be weary of them just in case. I agree with you that the violence against women is horrific and definitely women are already wary, but to say we SHOULD be just say a lot about our society

did the baby have a name? was the mom planning for the birth? could the baby have survived outside the mother? these are the things i think should be considered when trying to 'add' the pregnancy to murder charges :(
Doesn't matter if the baby had a name or not. She was still a human being. It's clear her mother was planning for the birth. The whole reason she even went to his house was to make a list of things they needed for the baby. If that's not planning, Idk what is. As far as whether or not she could have survived outside of the mother, I was born at 7 months and weighed less than 3 pounds, and clearly I survived. So he definitely should have charged with the murder of the baby, as well.

Hi Rachel. I love your channel and have been watching for a long time now - I’ve seen every video!! Question for you, as someone who graduated high school 14 years ago and never followed up with college but now is interested in nursing school. I am applying to community colleges at the moment here in NYC for my AA and prerequisites. But as for after that, I was curious how hard was your nursing program for you? Was it a struggle? I’m nervous after being out of school for so long, that I won’t be able to easily get through it 😭
I didn’t go to nursing school, but I have friends who are. It is definitely difficult and will be a big challenge, but if you are willing to put in the time and work, you can make it happen!
Check into bridge programs from associate to BSN. It is tough, but rewarding. I used to help students arrange their rotations. I will say that those that waited or were older tends to do better. A bit more experience and more dedicated.
I believe Rachel is a doctor! I’m in nursing school right now after being out of school for almost as long as you. It’s difficult, but what’s helping me is keeping my eye on the prize, self care, and leaning on my family as well as other students for support. I’m also a single mom.
