Thank You! I just changed mine and it didn't work until you told me how to reset it. Saved me a ton of aggravation. I had to replace the harness as well which required finding the schematic to reference wire colors and pinouts since the new one didn't match. You were much more polite than me about not being able to get at the IAC.
Chris, don't trust it yet you still could have a problem with the distributor. Let the car heat soak for 15 minutes after you get it up to operating temperature and then try a restart. How long did it sit Befor you gave the almost new owner the key that's the amount of time you need to wait for restart.love watching your videos. Good luck with the sale.
Wow Chris you are a great mechanic sometimes things happen that are totally out of your control were you were definitely taking care of business on the car making sure that everything has been right but to find out that you fix the problem that is fantastic
I thought I was having a heat stroke for a second there when you went into slow motion. LOL!!! 😆 I am paving a road out here in Georgia and it’s super hot, I am watching you on my lunch break. 🍱
I’m having the same issue. I bought one from Amazon aswell. My Dad and I think our part came broken as it didn’t move when we plugged it in and left it out to see if the pintel moved. Now- we didn’t do the procedure we just wanted to see if the pintle would move- do you have any suggestions?
6:47 Subtitles: “To *purchase that intake air control valve, I believe I got it from Amazon, and like I said, it’s about 12 dollars so a super cheap part. Um. Relatively easy to install, took me about… I dunno… 20 minutes in total, to disassemble and reassemble. Pretty easy some hand tools all you need really was a screwdriver and a 10 millimeter* uh socket extension, and that’s it.”
I had the exact same problem and it was one of the heater sensors which had failed and was telling the ECM that temp was very cold. I replaced the sensor at the front of the block and the problem never returned. Good to know it might also be the IAC and as someone below says also the ICM
I wouldn't cheap out and use a $12 IAC if you cared about your C4. I'd recommend you spring for the Standard Motor Products version, they're only like $30 on RockAuto.
I have had this hot start issue in my 89' for 5 years now!! If you could get it to actually start, it was only possible to keep it idling by keeping your foot on the gas pedal slightly. It would run fine while driving around until you come to a stop and it wants to stall. I am going to now get this part and install it. I will update with the results!! Thank you for your video!!
Also spray the MAS " Mass Air Flow " sensor with MAS flow cleaner "special spray". Mine stalled and idle was off. Many videos how to do - very easy. Idles smooth now.
That IAC was toast! The end of the plunger was worn badly. Was it the factory one? Glad it worked out. Now, fly that guy back from Texas and consummate the deal.👍
I tell you what.....Not kidding, just now happened to me, luckily it finally started after 3 cranks, on the third time it coughed and caught. Has NEVER done that before. Wonder if you jinxed my car??? Haha. In NOLA so super hot here. Glad I watched this before and knew right where to go. I need to adjust the throttle response (control module) anyway, so can do it all at once.
Hi Chris! New 87 Vette owner here. I love your channel and have already learned so much from you. I do have a quick question - my 87 idles great in Neutral but when stopped in Drive gets a little rough. Others on Corvette Forum recommended replacing the IAC. When you replaced yours did you retract the pintle back to 1 1/8”? I’ve seen this mentioned a few times and wanted to ask you.
Hi Chris, Thanks again for your videos. They are great. I would just want to point out that $12 IAC are Chinese brands. Not that hight quality, l guess. If you take American brands - Walker's is $20, Standard Motor's is $30-40, Delphi's and ACDellco's are over $40.
Mine would not crank I've been driving it for 8 months turned it off when it was hot would not even turn over. I let it cool off even pour it a little cold water on top. Then it restarted. I'm just wondering since mine would not crank if it might be something different do you have any thoughts or ideas? I'm a part change your by heart so I'm tempted just to replace the $12 part regardless... Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Colby
You said that you unplug the IAC, then turn on the key again. and replug it. Is this for all Corvettes? I have a 1992 Lt1. Is that what I am supposed to do with it also?
Chris!! Yippie glad you resolved the issue. I'd let it run few more times and heat up a bit longer and try it. At the 6:50 mark, I thought you needed a can of 104 octane boost!!🤣🤣
@@mycorvettelife so Chris, you just got the car all fixed up and got rid of all the buggaboos and now you're selling it? Is it bexause you need a fixer upper for the channel? My son and I love your channel and we're almost done fixing up his 89 C4. We are looking forward to see what you will tackle next. You should get a 70 Stingray.with a 454
Chris: Which year do you have I noticed that part is good up to a 1988, there's a different one for 1990, but what happened to the 1989 version which I need.
I have a 94 sitting in my garage, owner has swapped almost everything on it, I have changed EGR, MaF, opti, throttle body, checked vaccum, steady at 20, but car will not idle correct, 1000 cold, and increases to around 1500, Next thing is the computer, owner bought car this way as a fixer, and 2 years on its not fixed.
Here you go. This one says it fits 86. Looks exactly the same to me. 🤷♂️ Walker Products 215-1003 Fuel Injection Idle Air Control Valve www.amazon.com/dp/B00T1BRLLA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_AQ0SCNS87BD4N3J922S7
@@mycorvettelife thanks so much I appreciate it! I have a 1986 with documents showing original 23000 miles on it. I just put new tires. Everything works on it I’m just taking the little bugs out like minor tuneup and this iac .
Not to nit pick, but I thought IAC stood for Idle Air Control. Maybe I've got it wrong. I have an '88 C4. It won't pass California smog. It's got 216,000 miles and probably needs a new engine. I am retired and don't feel like spending $5k for another engine. So it just sits in my garage rotting away. 8-(
I think you turned into a demon towards the end of the video. It made me think of the 1984 Ghostbusters for some reason. Haha.
No idea how that happened….but at least the car is fixed 😂.
Impressed with your mechanical skills...installation via a text book!
Thanks
I think whoever ends up with this car is getting one nice C4!

I had no doubt in my mind that you could fix the problem, way to go Chris!
Dude I'm proud it's working out that easy!! Thumbs-up fix~John
That's why the Internet is so great Chris as we all can share information.
Good job Chris! Had to replace one of these on my 3rd gen T/A. Wasn’t as difficult to do as it was on your C4

I tested it a dozen times last night. Started every time.

Chris: I really like these kind of videos!
Wow you already fixed the car, that was quick, great video and news , I hope that guy from Texas buy this car
I talked to him last night. He is going to pass on it. 🤷♂️

Having the same issue with my 92 corvette. About to buy a new IAC for it and hope that fixes the issue as well.
what patience my friend. Good luck with the sale. $12 part. Like you said unbelievable.

Chris glad you got the c4 fixed you will have no problem selling it for the price that you are asking for it

I think I’ll change mine out just for the hell of it 👍👍 you should try and sell it for at least $12,500 now
My 89 is the exact opposite. Won't stay running when cold but perfectly fine after up to temp.

I replaced mine when I had idle issues. Easy job. The TPS is a little more tricky setting the numbers in the multimeter.
FYI taking the throttle body off is not required. Can be taken off with wrench or needle nose pliers.
Where is the video on how to program the throttle position sensor procedure? Your videos are so helpful. Thank you

I gave him the opportunity. He is passing on it.
Back in the day those IAC valves were big bucks!
Still are, he got a cheap one. Even "Standard Motor Products" costs nearly 50 bucks, GM genuine double that...
So it cranked but would it fire if you sprayed starting fluid in.

how do you reset a 1994 IAC
did you reuse the gasket from the TB to intake?

There's a socket just for that so you don't have to remove throttle body
You know the mm?
