- Yooo, Tribes! Thanks for suddenly working long enough for me to get to play you! Download and play Tribes Ascend for free at tinyurl.com/STA...
I'm wrong about the Devestator Spinfusor in the video. It has a larger explosion radius AND does more damage direct hits - but non-directs do less damage. Weird.

No one's commented in 2 years so I feel obligated to do so. Have a Good Day.
I miss Tribes: Ascend :(
Devastator was updated, it now has a larger radius compared to heavy spinfusor, but does less damage in radius but it still has that insane direct hit that's 200 higher then heavy spinfusor.
You can rocket jump in lots of games. It's really important in Tribes, because speed and mobility are everything.
Extra ammo, more health, and faster regen can be earned simply by playing. They might be upgrades, but it only takes a few games to upgrade them. Some weapons, however, are direct upgrades; for example, DMBs have the option of either the weakest grenade in the game or mines for 100k xp.
I really liked you're direct hit. Love the sound of "Ka-ching!" :D
btw, the brute's Devastator Spinfusor does a higher direct hit damage and a bigger explosion radius. It's just that it's splash damage is smaller (700max) compare to the normal splash damage (750max)
this was actualy the first tribes video ive ever seen on star's channel
Also shotguns were nerfed.
yayyyyyy it's been so long since we had a tribes ascend vid
Keep playing, and keep trying to hit people in midair. Eventually you start doing it without thinking about it. It's muscle memory. you see movement, and your hand tracks it and fires when the timing is right for it. It can't be learned as a "trick" it just takes hours of practice. Happy playing!
Such is the nature of Tribes. Sometimes you'll give blue plates to the face, take down shrikes with your ARX, and mortar people from across the map while skiing at 200mph+, and sometimes you'll just flat out suck. Once you know how to do something, pure practice is the best way to get better.
Well, if you count earning new weapons and perks, yes, it does take a lot more than a few games. But extra ammo, more health, faster regen, better packs, etc. can be earned quickly.
Maaaaan, I miss this game so much
new one is out now
The best way to learn how to hit stuff in Tribes is to learn how to predict your enemies' movement. Hit where they will be, not where they are. This takes practice, but you'll get better the more you play. I sucked when I started, but I practiced and got much better.
People, he didn't mention this in the video but if you're gonna play tribes, do it through his link in the description. He gets xp for it.
I do wonder how much time money he's put into this game, he has all the weapons and bodyshots like a pro. That's what I don't like about tribes, if you want to get good at it and actually enjoy playing, you gotta put a ton of money or time in it first.
What I did when I started learning how to do Tribes is I used cheap tactics; I camped the generator in CTF. While this usually does almost nothing for your team, it's good for getting your head on straight before trying more difficult things. After that, practice in TDM for dueling and flagrunning and in C&H for defense and capping.
You are ridiculously good at direct hits star. I've been playing tribes since your first vid on it and i still am no where near as good as you lol
When that last clip came on, after you were done talking, I half expected you to market-garden someone...
well, i'm not discrediting him or anything, he really is a good player, but heavy discs have a larger hitbox(since they are larger) and they spin in the air after they come out of the rails at the end of the gun. that means that for a little while after they fire, the discs are diagonal and have a slightly higher chance of direct-hitting.
I also find that i get blue plates more often with the heavy spinfusor.
download it
i did say that, it gives up 50 damage. so what? it STILL 2shots a medium, and instead of 1050 direct contact, it does 1204. Add this to a larger AoE, and the devastator is much better for heavy dueling (MAs) and medium dueling (Splash), AND base asset destruction (again, MAs). The 'sidegrade' isn't really much when you consider how much extra stuff you get. hence why I call it an upgrade.
Hooray, more tribes! You got me hooked then cut me off on the videos;)
Yay more Tribes at last :D Too short though.
I must buy that devastator spinfusor. Im terrible at direct hits, but it just looks so sexy.
To Star: The Devastator Spinfusor actually has a LARGER radius than the stock fusor, over a smaller one... it's sadly almost a direct upgrade, as it only really gives up a measly 50 damage.
It's easier to predict the motion of a fast-moving target than a slower moving one.
It's not as bad as it could be. You have to put $60 into BF3 before you're even allowed to unlock things.
1. Jetpacking
2. Yes, yes, OH GOD YES. Disc jumping in Tribes is more effective than in ANY other game. If all that you care about is going fast, then you should and will do whatever it takes to go fast. If you have the option between two different spinfusors, though, choose the one that takes out less of your health; you'll need all the jumps you can fit in.
You should play more tribes! I can't get enough of your gameplay.. :(
10x for showing me this game i hope we will see each other in it some day :P
Extra ammo, more health, and regen faster are free, and can be earned really easily.
Glad to see more tribes.
Yeah, a few of their hitscan weapons are based off real weapons--for example, another secondary for the Brute is inspired by a Colt .45.
Looks more like a Flare Gun, with the slight arc, and the flare-like projectile.
Those shots were amazing!
I love how every time I kill a shrike it feels like I'm slaying a dragon. *Skyrim theme plays*
Actually, the devastator spinfusor has a larger explosive radius. Only downside of it? It does a whole 50 less splash damage.
Straight upgrade.
I know you've probably hear this often, these people aren't criminals for trying to get you to pay for a game worth at least $30. Many new weapons present different play styles. You realize this once you get the weapon, not when you're getting killed by it. The only class that is better non-vanilla is PTH. Literally every other class is played very close to vanilla (exception as DMB or SEN).
Pretty sure it comes out on the 27th of June, along with Meet the Pyro.
Dude your beast at thou game. I can't cut it.
I love your tribes vids man, keep them going!
liked & subed!
He already has said that in his Twitter.
Didn't know that earlier.
Obviously it was recorded prior to the update being officially announced as "Pyromania"
i like your tribes videos a lot keep em coming
Pretty sure that is does less AOE damage, but has larger radius.
As in you do less damage if you miss a direct hit, but you also end up doing small damage if you completely miss.
Awesome to see some tribes again man! Keep em' coming :D
A stream 10 bullets deals as much damage as a disc. Also, you can't use the ground or walls with bullets like you can with explosives.
In the description he says he made a mistake: +Blast range but less damage on non direct hits.
I swear Star is a robo cyborg disguised as a human
Weapons being red getting powerful? Are you an Ork, STAR?
that clip at the end... marplate gardener kill? market gardener special? blue market gardener?
I don't know.
Hey Star, cool work getting your name on tf2's site
My TF2 game has been lagging uncontrollably lately, and I'm gonna miss the Meet the Pyro DX
Take that comment with a grain of salt though, I've never argued that the model is a good one, and leans heavily in favor of purchases, but it hovers just outside the pay to win threshold. besides, for us comp players, weapons either: a. get nerfed to oblivion by hirez (PG) or B. Banned (jackal, smokes, PG, 1 SEN limit etc)
Uhhhm Heavy Spinfusor variant increases radius but decreases damage.
What Star talked about sounded like Dueling spinfusor for pathfinder.
favorite commentator
Exceptions are DMB, PTH, SEN, JUG, INF, TCH...That's already 2/3 of the classes available.
Siiiick mid-airs dude! subbed
I've seen pretty much all worthwhile Tribes videos(there's a limited number at the moment), and there are tons of crazy things people do that you'd think would be impossible. For example, there's this guy called Pumpelche that plays a Juggernaut at AMAZING speeds, and he has some pretty sweet montages. The end of this video is especially awesome. /watch?v=yZKgaD0o-BU
Quick shoutout to getting a quick shoutout on the TF2 web page STAR.
Because he has a gaming channel, and the more xp he has, the more good footage he can show us. Isn't that what we're subscribed for, to see good content? And it's not like you lose anything but some time. I really don't like your "If I'm not getting xp then no one is" attitude.
STAR! You got mentioned by the TF2 Blog! *under news*
What I dislike about tribes is that you don't have to sacrifice nearly enough firepower and speed to get over twice the health of someone else imo.
"few games" in reality means at least a hundred games to fully outfit one class. I've probably played a few dozen games since I first started playing and have only gotten 30% done with the soldier class
Fractals are hardly a problem since they can be easily avoided. More and more people have noticed that it requires less skill to auto people down. Add to that the god awful screen shake when getting hit by a couple of auto tards and having to judge your shots is even harder. They need to add massive recoil to autos and and add accuracy decrease at distance.
STAR YOUR NAME IS MENTIONED ON THE TF2 WEBSITE :O
best loadout, Raider.
Yeah, it's there. I'm downloading it right now.
He'll probably make a video when it's out. There's not much to say now.
The spin fuser is like the Direct Hit (from team fortress 2)
that is some godly mid air aim right there ;o
STAR
Aims like a god in Tribes
Can't land airshots in tf2
that shotgun looks like a future USAS-12
You should play soldier with the AR/Thumper DX with quickswap perk (preferably with the shortfuse nades and safety third too). Amazing for dueling, and you'll top frag every time if you aren't looking to do anything else other than frag people.
Been waiting for this...
Was really hoping for a market garden at the end.
you know why? he IS the pyro and mister sexy is his flare gun
insane leading skills
Replacing op weapons with socks... Good idea! Valve could replace the phlog with a sock and do a meet the sock update!
i have no clue how you shoot that well. also believe the spifusor your using has a larger splash radius but less splash damage, and better direct hit damage
goddamnit ur blu plates are friggin magic cO
blue plate special skill is insane
actually the explosion radius is bigger, but with less damage
Disc jumping on Tribes came before rocket jumping on TF2....
yeah i do. and i think you should know that in the 2 month that it took you to tell me, i kinda figured it out. im not just sitting here waiting for an answer
STONEHENGEE! Best pronunciation ever.
Cool! You blue plated me at 3:58
I think YOU don't get what p2w means.
It's not just the EXCLUSIVE thing.
That's what Niichts said as well.
There's pay to accelerate and that.
The game is really slow to get cash and all, so that's what makes it p2s.
I don't play those other games, but I play Tribes: Ascend, and it still makes it p2w.
I never said it was not f2p. A game can be p2w even if it's not exclusive.
Plus, something you might not know, but when the plasma gun came out OVERPOWERED, only people with gold could get it.
I need to redownload this game. I haven't played it since I got my new PC.
Airshots. Totally sexier than market gardeners.
Watched this video twice just to get my fix of blue plates before going back to the booletfest that the game usually ends up being :I
This is the second time I've come back to this video and really wanted to get back into tribes. The problem is, last time I did end up starting to play, and I was garbage. I told myself to keep practising and trying to get better just by playing, but eventually I really couldn't make myself keep playing. I know there aren't tips that will instantly make me better, but is there at least a game type or really anything that you think will make trying to learn much less frustrating?
Airshotting in Tribes is a lot easier than in TF2. Enemies are a lot more predictable at high speeds.
>buy a brute
>throw fractals
>get an average of 1000 exp per round
>???
>success
yo, star! going to get into tribes soon. what do you consider OP so i know what to avoid using/hate
Yeah, well, it
I guarantee that the PG was available for 100k xp on release. and yes, the exclusive thing is what makes true pay to win, it is buying power. Gold Bullets from world of tanks is an excellent example. I never suggested that the model was good, or easy for F2P players. And hi-rez has taken numerous steps to improving their model. (from the accelerate patch to reducing xp costs down from 175k xp/item to 88k) It's still not the best, but its a far cry from what it used to be.
Star... The radius is BIGGER! Just the splash damage is less.
STAR you are on the TF2 News :D
I'm sorry if my previous comment sounded like spam...I just really like Pump's montages
You should upload some tf2 scrims. I saw your highlander scrim on stabby's channel. You guys did pretty well.
