- It's the 1000 Subscriber Special! And the Target for Tonight is Essen.
This video has been brightened considerably in the edit to eliminate the worst of youtube's compression sillybuggers, it was darker for me when I actually flew it (though less fuzzy).

I can now watch your nighttime raids and TaffinExile’s B-17 daylight raids! Awesome work! Thanks for putting these videos up.
Congrats on the literal milestone here! and thanks a lot.
sweet mission! your course corrections were really interesting & not boring ;) I'm interested to see what youre coming up with next :D Oh and of course congrats to your 1000 + subs :D
Did not know you could fly a Lancaster, need to get this now! great vid man congrats on the 1K subs:)
Lancaster almost certainly is not as easy to fly as the He-111 he usually pilots.
love your vids
def deserved more likes
Well I see you got a new plane...
Avro Lancaster? At night? Wow! I am glad you are not a drunk driver (as far as I know).
Only a cup of tea and some raw carrots for this trip!
@@Mr66D Yeah. It is a good idea to have the booze and tartar steak only AFTER the mission.
First of all, congrats on reaching 1,000 subscribers - quite the milestone! This was a great video (even if YT rendered it so dark). Hope to see more! Does the mod include the Luftwaffe night fighters and you were just lucky not to see one or was this a little too early for them?
B.A.T. definitely has them but I don't know if they're included in any of the campaign missions. I think the AI might have some issues with night fighting which Fishyyy and co. are trying to sort out with the zonk mod.
Congrats for you 1K subs! Unfortunately the youtube darkness compression make the vid look like 480p quality. I was wondering if you have a discord or something for playing IL-2 great battles? I would love to fly with a fellow Canuck.
The compression was a bugger to deal with, it took a bunch of tests and revisions just to get something half way watchable. I don't have a discord (since that sound's suspiciously like effort), but I'm active on Wolfpack and Enigma's servers.
What happened a lot of the time was that RAF bomber crews would dump some of their bombs over the water, so they could fly higher and faster over Germany.
I believe you have the journey switched, RAF crews returning home would jettison their bombs in desginated jettison zones so that they could land safely without extra weight.
@@berenhamilton3321 Nope, it happened on the way there to get rid of weight. Read 'The Berlin Raids' by Martin Middlebrook for a good idea of the fear and casualties experienced by RAF Bomber Command. It was a brutal and random war. and higher casualties are almost always among the lower and slower aircraft, like Stirlings and Halifaxes. When they did not take part, the number of early returns for 'mechanical faults' for the Lancs noticeably increased.
Have been greatly enjoying your adventures, esp all of the bombing and nav dtls in the He-111 series.
Query: Lanc start-up began w/Engine One, which was outer port; I've only seen American heavies start-up, and they all used inner starboard engine, - Engine Three, I'm guessing - bc, iirc, that was the only one with a battery; then used that generator to start the other three. Were British manufactured heavies different or was this simply the sim? Thanks in advance. Really looking fwd to these!
To be honest I didn't put any thought into the start order whatsoever, but in real life the start order seems to be 3-4-2-1. The Pilot's Notes for the Lancaster don't specify a start order but the engineer's notes might, I haven't found anywhere to read the latter yet.
@@Mr66D Thx for detailed reply; that does indeed seem to sync with what I remembered. Flying these big machines in these missions have been quite enjoyable: much more of the slice of life than the typical shoot-em-up fighter ones that everyone seems to post.
@@BasmatiJones Perhaps I can carve out a bomber niche then. I do like flying fighters but mostly in multiplayer, smacking the AI around in singleplayer isn't that interesting most of the time.
Shouldn't there be more searchlights on the route to the target i e. Dutch coast etc?
Probably, I did encounter more on the mission I flew to prepare for this one (a leaflet mission over France), I encountered searchlights and flak over every major city right from the coast. This mission's route does a pretty good job of avoiding population centres so that might be why.
