      They look like us and yet they don't. Still innocent, they don't know where we're going. Now they're old, if they're still alive. They'd be disappointed if they knew what we've become.

      @@richardlawson4317 Keep in mind, it was primarily the GI and Silent generations which outsourced the American manufacturing base and jobs, with it. This rather directly caused families to disintegrate, as both parents now had to work to survive. I grew up as a 'latchkey kid' (Generation X) in the 80s and 90s. These days, young people are working 3 or 4 gig jobs to barely make it and it shows... If only the post-war golden age had been allowed to continue, who knows what the US could've become?
      Eh, still, your music was good!

    "Creeque Alley" is the story of how the New York Folkies migrated to Los Angeles and started the Folk Rock Sound. So fantastic to realize some of the Folk Rock stars played in each other's bands in Greenwich Village, and exploded when they hit Hollywood: Barry "Eve Of Destruction" McGuire, Jim "Roger" McGuinn, The Mugwumps featured Mama Cass Elliot and Zal "soon to be a Lovin' Spoonful' Yanovsky . . . John Sebastian's "Lovin' Spoonful" managed to capture America's heart while still based in NYC. The Folk Rock movement was the first American sound that took what The Beatles were doing - and Americanized it.

    Footnote - part of the reason why the stereo mix kept popping up on best of collections was because in the mid 1970s ABC Records dumped all their mono reels (singles and albums mono masters) that had stereo counterparts into a land fill. Done so due to their acquiring the Dot label's catalog (needing space). Fortunately, Dunhill co-owner/producer Lou Adler had mono reference tapes in his archive and loaned them to Universal Music Group (current ABC masters owners) for the remastered mono single mix you used here.

    • @YCDTI
      @YCDTI  6 років тому +8

      It seems so many of the great tapes from back in the day were saved by pure luck, like the AB videotapes were found by some ABC employee in a dumpster and nearly tossed before they happened to call Dick Clark to see if he wanted to save them. People had no idea these things would be so valuable someday. Thank you, as always, for the great info. NEW GROOVES RADIO!

    Hi AARON, Love all the side note research here on the Mamas & the Papas as well as your "dancer roll call"! As great as a song as "Creeque Alley" was, I think it was one of those songs that the dancers found to be a little bit of a challenge to dance to. And "Ed Sullivan's youngsters"....ha! Almost busted a gut remembering how frustrated and irritated Ed would become with the excited kids in "the balcony" who wouldn't hush up...Often Ed had to scold them and threatened not to go on with the next act!

      Baba Looey Rocks The World Um, from late 65-68 they were the coolest, most popular pop group around, with a new sound no one had heard since The Beatles. Their sound defined the ethos/social climate of the (late) 60s and are genuine icons of the era. They're still widely loved today so they're music still holds up in a big way, and not just for the hits. Had they stayed together longer their initial popularity would have lasted longer. 9/25/18

      Keep in mind that it was only days that after this episode aired that the Supreme Court decided on _Loving_ _v_ _Virginia._ Louisiana was two years away from desegregating its schools. Gays could be thrown into psychiatric hospitals indefinitely, with no legal recourse. Women had no access to credit... a single woman couldn't buy a new car unless her father or brother co-signed the loan. Many employers would not hire married women without written permission from their husbands. And I'm not even gonna delve into Vietnam and the unholy industrial pollution of our national landscape.
      If you think tattoos, smart phones, and same-sex marriage are worse than racism, sexism, homophobia and political assassinations, then you might want to check your own moral compass...

    wow, Dick Clark's receding hairline was getting bad on his left forehead. His forehead just kept growing and growing, lol. Had to be just killing him being on ABC television and all. Seemed to have a bad temper sometimes if you've ever heard some behind the scenes audio. Receding hairlines really piss people off.
