American Bandstand 1967 - Top 10 - The Happening, The Supremes

  • The Happening had been #1 on the show for at least 2 weeks and you can tell the kids knew it well by how some of them are singing along. Clips like this (and many others) really make we want to just jump in the screen with my jacket and skinny tie (and shave off ”a few” years) and join them....pure joy!
Dancers: 1:09 Frank Herrera and Nancy Ireson, 1:47 Pat Moriarty, 2:25 Leonard Smith, 2:43 Marcia Silverman, and on the riser it’s Don Sanuskar with Roni Menacker joined by Stan Soburn and his partner.
    Airdate: May 6, 1967

Why am I smiling through this entire clip? Maybe because of the iconic music by The Supremes and the beautiful young people, black and white, dancing and smiling. I hope we can get back to that idealism!

Despite focusing on movies, Elvis was still the second highest artist of the 60's at 139 million (The Supremes 71 million). I do love the Supremes.

The music of that time is unmatched in history and the young people were influential to the world. My sisters were teenagers during that time and I was 10 years younger than them but still was exposed somewhat to what was going on.

It is a great shame that this happened.I wonder why the BBC did it? Fortunately TOTP's episodes from about 1976'sh,have all been retained. Also,it is good to see them being shown on BBC 4, rather than just languishing in the archives.

You want to see an amazing show with a Strong American Bandstand Influence. Check out National bandstand from Australia that pretty much copied "Bandstand". They had Artists do "Cover" Versions of Songs by US Artists from The McCoys, Inez & Charlie Foxx, Jackie Wilson, amongst others. Johnny O'Keefe had a Variety Show and hosted a Talent Show that a young Lady won named Olivia Newton John.

@@juneandrus2840 In most cases, these people are 65 years or younger and came of age musically when either they were preparing the public for Diane's solo career when she was still in The Supremes or they were born when Diane was already a solo performer. They were influenced by all the Motown propaganda to promote Diane's solo career and, as a result, think that it was always about Diane. Whenever you hear someone call them, "Diana Ross and The Supremes," you know that they are "younger" and big "Ross as a solo act" fans. They know little about THE SUPREMES because they are only looking back at history through a "Ross colored" lens. They don't realize that THE SUPREMES were the main event and that The 70's Supremes and Diane's solo career are just remnants of THE ORIGINAL SUPREMES' LEGACY!

Spotted Patrice Holloway at 1:21. Sister of Motown singer Brenda Holloway. Patrice wrote "Just Look What You've Done" for Brenda to sing. I think she sang it in this same show if I'm not mistaken.

We danced to have fun, not to show off. The music was and is still the greatest.
