100% And Hand of Doom has a little of everything; down tempo, up tempo, really dirty guitar tone, nasty riffs, amazing drum fills, etc, etc...and deep lyricism especially for the time written. This song may not make a play list, but definitely deserves a listen.
Bill Ward is such a great dummer, he came from a jazzy background and had mostly Jazz drummers as his idols. He had more depth than most "rock" drummers and was used to more complex rhythms and changing tempo. Then there's Geezer Butler who really was laying down a great groove. On top came Tony Iommi, the riff master, with his down tuned guitar. And then there was Ozzy, who wasn't the world's best singer, not even close, but he was so charismatic and it just fit to the vibe they were going for
These musicians are at the top of their field and Ozzy's voice could project above the music. I don't think anyone else could rise over the music like Ozzy. And I'm not taking anything away from Geezer, Toni or Bill Ward they are combined perfection.
Sasha Schneider Black Sabbath played in standard 440 tuning for their first 2 albums. They didn't detune to C# until Master of Reality and used it until Dio took over. After that, including all of the Tony Martin era albums, and even "13", are in Eb tuning. I've been playing guitar for 40+ years. That's what they did.
@@pravolub8 You're right, he didn't down tune yet, for the first two albums he tried to alleviate the pain by playing very light string gauges and started tuning down to C# starting with their third album as a means to further tension relieve the strings. Not sure why you're talking about "standard 440 tuning", though. They didn't change the pitch of A, they stayed at 440 regardless which tuning Tony was playing in. "Standard E tuning" would've been the term you were looking for.

The Wizard always gives me the chills, pretty much my favorite Black Sabbath song of all. The drums, lead, bass, and harmonica are always moving. If you listen closely, in between the riffs and instrument focuses there is a ton of improv and call and response going on in the background and it lends incredible energy to the song.
It honestly is pretty crazy to think about when this came out. Fun Fact: This is the first song ever written by Black Sabbath After Tony Iommi injured his fingers during his last shift at his factory job. Which in turn created the signature Iommi sound and tuning that would make the basis of most modern day metal and rock today. Edit: I might be wrong, I think it’s Wicked World (which is recommended btw)
Not only that, but according to Iommi's autobiography, he had to make a 'wrap' because the fingers were cut to the bone and were really sensitive. He used an old leather jacket and is still using that same jacket for parts to this day. He mentioned that there's not much left of the jacket, lol.

Thou - Sweet Leaf, 4th of July and Free Will
Isis - So Did We
Belzebong - Acid Funeral
Witch - Seer
All Them Witches - When God Comes Back
Stoned Jesus - Black Woods
Asteroid - Silver and Gold
1000mods - Low
Acid King - Busse Woods
No St VITUS ? The Kings of doom. Trouble? Pentagram ?
@@Nightbreed82 I hear ya. St VITUS trouble pentagram if ya want doom
"Cornucopia" is one of their underrated songs that needs more love. It's amazing, and no one ever mentions it.
Such a crushing main riff.
@@zachhafer3852 one of their best, I think. These guys should react to it.
Everyone talks about Snowblind and Supernaut but imo the groove in that song makes it my favorite from Vol. 4
Planet Caravan!
@@zachhafer3852 so evil and menacing!
The most requested songs that everybody wants are: Hand of Doom, Children of the Grave, Black Sabbath, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Symptom of the Universe, Electric Funeral and Snowblind, choose wisely!
What about megalomania
HAND OF DOOM!
Just do them all
So all of them? YES. AND PARANOID
@@janwerthwein820 Hand of Doom is super groovy and heavy.
You will be missing out if “Children of the grave” isn’t covered it encompasses Sabbath and is so metal and SO groovy!!
Also... NIB is a sick song, probably my favourite from the first album
NIB needs to be done!!
They aren't saying anything about the random cowbell Bill throws in there. So cool.
Because it needs more.
Somebody had to say it.
bill was so ahead of his time in 1970
THAT SHIT WAS INSANNEEE
Was thinking that myself... out of nowhere a random "DONK" appears
'Shout out to Bill McClintock' so good. On a more serious note, one of the things I love about your reactions is that it brings back to me how I felt when I first heard these songs. Hell, I still feel it but it is great to live it out again vicariously through you two!
It's weird bro but I get it too. Wtf is that? Why do human beings reacting to something you love feel so satisfying? That nostalgic remembrance and then, to quote you, live it through them... its intense. These guys have good vibes, man! And they love the Sabbath
Bill McClintock makes some great mash ups. I like his better than DJ Cummerbund
Ditto
And seeing what they've enjoyed of Slayer so far, I look forward to seeing their reactions to their "collaborations" with The Bangles, Wham, Edwin Collins and most recently, The B-52's. 😂
@@FVD B52's-Lava, B52's-Strobe Light
These guys weren't kidding
This is where the harmonica in Cypress Hill "I Ain't Goin' Out Like That" came from.
Black Sabbath - CHILDREN OF THE GRAVE - What a song, stoner metal blues al in one!!!
YEEEEEESSSSS!!!!
Really hope they do this one. Probably my fav song from them
Man i love this channel. You guys are such a blast. Made my day. Been listening to rock, metal...and also some old school Rap&Hip-hop from the 90' all my life. Awesome stuff man. Black Sabbath is one of the bands that will never die. Listening to them everyday
@@wagnerrastelli2432 I actually thought it was to but no its Wicked
World.
Huh, never knew that. But it makes sense. Getting injured at a shitty factory job is the most heavy metal origin story ever.
Not only that, but according to Iommi's autobiography, he had to make a 'wrap' because the fingers were cut to the bone and were really sensitive. He used an old leather jacket and is still using that same jacket for parts to this day. He mentioned that there's not much left of the jacket, lol.
First song was wicked world then Black Sabbath
Yeah, the first song they ever wrote as Black Sabbath was the song Wicked World. The second song they wrote was Black Sabbath.
"Black Sabbath" the song!!! You may not love it but from a historical perspective it's a must listen.
Also, wouldn't mind you guys revisiting Pantera or Clutch, both groovy bands I think you'll dig more as to get into their catalogue.
Alright, if you wanna hear the closest that Bill Ward's ever come to a hip hop beat, that's definitely "Hand Of Doom".
Wall of sleep too!
@@beatmastersimperium8864 Yeah, definitely!
@@beatmastersimperium8864
A lot of versions of nib have that drum part in the beginning. I've heard people say they should have used it in a song. I have to tell them it's the drums on hand of doom.
@@oneDonly What drum part??
@@Stonefalconetti
Oh my bad. The behind the wall of sleep drums. I typed the other song for some reason.
Bill Ward always said he played a jazz style of drumming while the band played.
Hand of doom, N I B, Sign of the southern cross, Paroind, must listen guys black sabbath marathon!!! Let the metal rock.
NIB!
You guys gotta do Symptom of the Universe!
true
They just don't know. Haha
You almost did “Sweet Leaf”....?? Ah man, don’t say it’s so!
I was waiting for the sweet leaf reaction!
iwannaseenow1 me too!! When George hears those drums he’s gonna 😱
LONELY IS THE WORD!!! Tony Iommi is literally singing thru the guitar. Just a powerful song.
Happy to see Bill Ward is getting recognized for his talent!! He often gets overshadowed by Tony, Ozzy and even Geezer. All 4 members created magic!
Black Sabbath "Snowblind": you will be amazed, extremely impressed...
Fabio Lignelli I was just listening to this song this morning! One of my favorites!
Symptom of the Universe - Black Sabbath
Ozzy does a fantastic job playing the harmonica !
Bill has stated his influence and background of drumming is a jazz background
Bill is not a drummer, Bill Ward is a percussionists!
Drummers like Gene Krupa
Symptom of The Universe, Hand of Doom, NIB, Black Sabbath, Juniors Eyes, Hole In The Sky! All are MUST LISTEN! MORE SABBATH! 🔥🔥🤘🏻
Juniors Eyes has the most killer bass riff geezer has played. I don't know why that album doesn't get more love. Shockwave, Johnny Blade, Juniors eyes.
Then we have Sabatoge. Symptom of the universe, hole in the sky, The Writ, Megalomania, the Thrill of it All. Why do people claim to be sabbath fans, but only want to hear Paranoid, Master of Reality, or Vol 4, and the first album.
Never Say Die, and Sabotage are kick ass albums.
Ask people like Eddy Trunk or Zakk, or other hard rock stars, and they will answer Sabotage, but you keep. Listening to the radio fans. You will never get a lesson.
I used to give $5 a month on patron they I realized they only listen to the radio, and fair weather fans, so I stopped paying, and I'll just keep watching the injustice done to classic bands, by these guys.
Roadking26 I agree, the opening to Juniors Eyes is so damn good. Also when the chorus kicks in it’s fantastic. VERY underrated song
@@themainman8405 check out a cover band on here called
kipness/beck/woods/capobianco. They do some great covers. Some are so so. Like stuff from Sabotage. Meglomainia is not bad. They do obscure stuff.
I believe they do a decent cover of junior's eyes.
Tony Iommi is known as the Riff King guys, his Riffs are just awesome 😍🔥. Check out Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Never heard this song as being a song with a marching band vibe but I would love to hear a high school marching band playing this at homecoming game. That would be brilliant!
This is the Sabbath songs that are important to hear:
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (the riff that saved sabbath)
Symptom of the Universe (earliest ”thrash metal” song...)
Children Of the Grave
Snowblind
Symptom Of The Universe is more Speed Metal. Not Thrash.
I'd add Shadow of the Wind!
Jay Hamilton That is not what I’ve heard or read. But you can be right, I thank you for your input!
Raquel Bargas uh Why....?
You guys haven't done SWEETLEAF? OMG... Ultimate heavy madness. When I think of Black Sabbath's sound, I hear SWEETLEAF. 🤟
Me too. I don't know why when I hear black Sabbath, I immediately think of sweet leaf. It's their identity.
SNOWBLIND, HAND OF DOOM ,SWEET LEAF , SYMPTOMS OF THE UNIVERSE, CHILDREN OF THE GRAVE ,SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH.
Yep, these are the exact ones
Love this! Tons of groove for a metal song. Something that's often overlooked about Sabbath is that they actually groove A LOT!
So much going wrong in the world but so much going right on this channel with all this Black Sabbath!!!
Ozzy era: Snowblind, Never Say Die, NIB, and Tomorrow's Dream
Dio era: The Mob Rules, The Sign of the Southern Cross, and I
yes NIBbbbb
"I" would be an awesome choice!
How about the one that started it all: Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
They already did it, but it's on their patreon.
More cowbell! The Wizard is one of my favorite sabbath tunes, I like the harmonica what other bands do you know of brave enough to have a harmonica lead.
Not the same but Jethro Tull had a flute lead
HAND OF DOOM next please.
Judas Priest- The Sentinel, Between the Hammer and the Anvil, Electric Eye, Nightcrawler!!
If not a reaction video, y'all need to listen to any of these.
Priest fans get this to the top
freewill burning green manalishi riding on the wind too
Diamonds and Rust
They've done Hellion/Electric Eye already. They should do Beyond the Realms of Death, classic 70's Priest i'm sure they'll enjoy.

Douglas Seebergh nope
You know - “The Wizard” is/was Ozzy’s local drug dealer back in the day....
Spread6his magic
Now that's a music lore I wanted to know 👌👌
"everyone's happy when the wizard walks by"
@stgroove11 I was going to say the same thing.
"In an interview with Metal Sludge, Geezer Butler said the song’s lyrics were influenced by the wizard Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings. Besides that, it was also believed to be about the band’s drug dealer at the time"
Sign of the Southern Cross......if you want the best Dio/Iommi song ever!!
Agreed
I would add "I" :-)
I agree and disagree as for me personally it's a three way tie between Sign of the Southern Cross, I, and Falling off the Edge of the World. Though if you put a gun to my head and made me pick one it would be Falling off the Edge of the World just for that one line "Look out there's danger! Nowhere to ruuuun!" But that's just me.
Agreed
chaospoet ..You might be right on “Falling Off”....it is good??
Bible black is good too...great vocals!
Y’all gotta do hand of doom, drums are killer on that.
Is there another song that even remotely sounds like this? Unique!!!! One of the coolest songs everr!!!!
Man I love how much y’all are enjoying the Masters! I have listened to these songs for more than 30 years and they still give me chills!
Gonna keep requesting Snowblind every vid. But not gonna complain about the Sabbath no matter what song it is.
I know y'all weren't around then but when this came out many of us had to hide this from our parents and listen secretly..
TX Rocker USA 1st I can’t imagine how extreme this was back in the late 60’s. I didn’t get into Sabbath until late in my metal journey, I screwed up because they put everyone to shame.
All my pals back in the day called it raunchy distortion, it was, and I liked it, they didn't, so too bad for them.
I'm 36 and my parents(55 and 56) were straight up with my brother and I. They told us about laying flat on the floor, making the room pitch black, smoking some weed and listening to sabbath and pink floyd. I'm so glad they told me about that. I never appreciate music more than when I throw on my headphones in a pitch black room and just listen.
That cover is straight up creepy
l remember finding hidden images and shit in it , I think it was just a gimmick, goat heads
I think there was an arm extending out of the house doing
the horn symbol thing
"Sweet Leaf" is SO appropriate for whatz goin on in the world -- cough cough cough cough cough
Absolutely LOVE this Sabbath marathon...great job guys! My suggestion is "Hole In the Sky"...fn heavy tune by them Pantera did a cover which kicked some ass...but check out Sabbath doing it.
Did they do Planet Caravan already? If not, they need to do Planet Caravan
NIB. The pinnacle of Sabbath's catalog as far as I'm concerned.
Sweet Leaf. Staylist in 5 seconds.
I'm glad you guys chose one of my favorite Sabbath songs. The tempo is great the way it changes back and forth. Great job bringing your prospective to different kinds of music. We use to jam this song before going to play a football game. It did get you ready to put your head through the wall.
This album was recorded in two days and for 800 Pounds.
That's pretty heavy.
And it sold over 9 million copies.
@@AliChaibi yeah dude, one day recording and one day mixing because thats all the studio time they could afford i belive the story goes
@@TommyJohnsen446 Well, the main thing is composition, arrangement and rehearsal to nail it. Recording an album this long in a day or two isnt' all that impressive. And 800 pounds was a lot of money back then also. Problem is, you get bands going mad, producers even crazier, asking for too much money, 50 million dollars and whatever and they go too far in the end. So you this kind of album being timeless because of its moderate complexity and simplicity . At the end of the day is just four channels, four instruments, maybe a guitar double every now and then. That is why it sounds great live too. Go hear Manowar live and you feel short changed...Just an example
recorded for 800 pounds but the music weights a TON heavy stuff xD
I'm in my 50's. This was the music of my youth. Thanks for reminding me how great it is!
