You missed two of the biggest selling points of this pistol: Walther advertises it is effortless to rack and has very little recoil. The target market is probably ladies and people with weaker hands/arms, I would imagine. My mother and mother in law both want a CC pistol but everything I have in CC size (Shield 9, PPS M2, LC9) they can't even rack and the recoil scares them.

Thought we as a community moved passed the "not a 9mm" phase to come to respect the middle ground these subcompact .380s have to offer between the snappiness of pocket .380s and micro 9mms, so this take seems really outdated (with the "no optics cut" now the new snobby expectation for everything)
Guess having a less powerful round in a slightly larger and heavier gun to create something that's easier to shoot for those that are recoil sensitive, have weaker hands, or offer faster follow-up shots, in general, is just an appeal that some will just never respect

The P365 and Reflex can't be carried chambered and decocked. This is the whole reason for this pistol. Double/single action. Once someone makes one this size in 9mm we will have a close to perfect carry gun and it will sell like no other.

Why does everybody compare this pistol to super compact carry pistols? It's obviously not a compact carry pistol; it's more of an all-around pistol that can be concealed, but more for range use and home protection (if you didn't want something bigger).
I would more likely compare it to a S&W EZ 380, or even a Glock 25. I'm actually looking forward to getting one once they become available, as I once owned a Walther PK-380.
The PD380 is a much improved version that has kept all the good features of the PK380 (longer barrel than most 380's, locked breech action, paddle magazine release, and excellent grip size), and improved the parts that sucked (non captured guide rod, safety that kept falling to the ON position during firing, 8 round magazines, and the MIM slide).

Yes, it's an upgraded PK380. I've never handled a PK380 but I have read that they are somewhat subpar for Walther. This looks like they blended in some CCP aesthetics into the PK380.
If you're a Walther fanboy, this could be your alternative to an M&P EZ380. I don't like "safe triggers" so I would look at it if I were in that market category.

This is nothing but the Old caliber war nonsense. Your opinion of the 380 is irrelevant to the quality of the gun. More and more we are seeing larger size 380. products. Obviously Walter is joining the Marketing of introducing a easy to handle and manage product. Like it or not the 380. is MILD Shooting. Which in turn means more accurate shot placement for many. I think companies need to try to compete with the Ruger LCP Max. I like the concept of the Max but I don't really want one because the titanium free floating firing pins being pretty fragile, using a conventional firing pin block would have completely solved that.
I think this was a big miss on Walther's part to present an alternative to the LCP Max. But importing small pistols is complicated legally. So it would need to be US made. Over 30 years ago Grendel made the P10 and P12 .380 mico double stacks that held at least 10 rounds. Surely Walther could make something happen.

It’s a miss because it’s too big and too heavy. The .380’s advantage is that you can make the gun really small and light for optimal comfort and concealment.
