Averi Davis On bedrock if there’s no cheater then it’s gotta have pc players, playing on pc is just technically hacking due to some advantages you have rather than a mobile player who hardly could rotate their screen and often when pvp just somehow open the chest and died or screen issues that make their game uncontrollably rotating around like crazy, it’s just bad anyway

Legacy Zombie I agree that new maps are essential, i just miss the old ones, feel like a lot more effort was put into them than the ones i’ve seen in later servers
most skywars have kits, but there's one major difference. Void. Thanks to it you can knock full diamond guy with snowballs you got from chests making most kits almost useless
My favorite moment playing Hunger Games (without the kits) was when I was running from a team of three and managed to kill two just in time for death match to hit. Then I got to finish off the last one and win the game. It’s those rare moments that fill me with adrenaline and make me feel really proud of myself.
4:30, I can vividly remember all these old MCSG maps and I feel such a meloncholy fondness for them. 6 or 7 years ago, with a much younger me, 12 or 13 years old, and I'm skyping with random online friends I've made through MCSG, playing Minecraft until dawn.
this was such a throwback... i used to have those random online friends as well. wonder where they are now and what theyre up to. it was so chill getting home and jumping on hunger games, meeting new people every day..
imo the charm of sg is that chests are random and you actually dont know what you’re gonna get but with crates and kits - kits literally give you a set of items, and the crates on mc central are ugh, you’re almost guaranteed to get a diamond helmet and some iron armor pieces if you have them maxed out, it’s honestly unfair for the new players who are actually trying for the first time, it’s honestly just odd
The MCSG server was a huge part of my childhood, I played on this server for hours on end daily trying to rack up points and kills. I remember my brother first showing me the server back when it only had the two OG maps. I miss the good old days of Minecraft before all these new minigames took over. Survival/Hunger games will always be my favourite minigame in Minecraft and I wish there was a good server that still hosted it.
Wow, I came back this week to play minecraft after years of dropping out and the first thing I did was play sg, I was wondering why this beautiful mode was so dead today. You made me retrace my childhood. I hope the algorithm can find you, you make fantastic videos that deserve to be seen
i remember my first Hunger Game, it was actually right after i watched the first movie for the first time, i called up my friend and went over to her place. She had a computer and a laptop so we joined a server together and tried it out, me and her both lasted until the very end so we both split the loot to be fair, walked to opposite sides of the cornucopia and then it was just us fighting until i won. Pistons pushed us up, some players got stuck just like you said, chests were in trees and small made caves, hidden areas, giant trees with ladders going up, and the map we had had a whole castle ruined a far ways from the start so getting there was already daring, and it had a giant ass broken bridge that you had to get around or jump through, with small parkour stuff in the middle for those wanting to get the loot and get around the water faster if you could complete it, I've actually been thinking of playing it again but i joined a server a few months ago and those kits and shit were there and i didn't understand so i tried a different server, same thing. Typed in Original Hunger Games Server into google, and not a single one. Im not saying there were none but i couldn't play any of them because it wasn't in English, or there were only 5 people on the whole server so theres no point. I miss it, i actually crave to play it
I remember the old days when I and my best friend would play mcsg nonstop. I got sick of it at a point, but my friend always wanted to be ranked number one on that server. Weird to think of how much I miss the old mcsg days, it was a thoroughly fun platform to play with your friends on.
Nowadays, the last good SG server is The Hive... its so sad to see such a great game fall to pieces like this. The Hive has a really popular Bedrock server with a great SG experience. The sheer polish really gives off a unique experience. However, its sadly the least played game on the server, barely reaching 1k worldwide players. I just wish The Hive added more regions to their Java server. If that was to be added, I bet The Hive would get more players.
It's also really easy to win in Hive Bedrock SG. I remember having games where I was first place with 9 kills (meaning I killed over 1/3 of all players) cause most of the playerbase isn't as hardcore as MCSG was, where I recall having at best 4 or 5 kills in a game where I won.
I remember when The hunger games movie came out, and me and my friend tried making a hungergames map using Himachi servers and it was a full on shit show. Brings back so many memories
I used to watch a lot of BanjanCanadian untill he started to team up with his buddies and dominating whole games which was low, stopped watching and forgot about minecraft hunger games till now.
Wow I remember that! I never watched his videos but I remember when "bacca's" were a controversial topic on the MCSG forums. There used to be so many complaints about large teams of "bacca's" that were practically impossible to beat because anybody that wore the skin would team up in the lobby. I used to joke with others that they were free kills because often times they weren't very good at pvp or dealt with serious lag. Beating large teams of "bacca's" was one of the most rewarding things you could do in the early days of MCSG. You just opened a huge hole of MCSG nostalgia that I had forgotten about.
I actually found this video after reminiscing about my time being a member of staff and senior staff on MCSG (before it became MCGamer). Really makes me miss the good old days.
It wasn't even fortnite's fault. MCSG died because of UHC, namely Badlion's UHC (which the creator of this video should have mentioned), cheaters, and the fact that after playing SG for enough time, it just gets boring. The game is the same thing every time and obviously something that's been around for 8 years won't be as popular as it was when it came out. Hunger Games was already pretty much dead by the time Fortnite's Battle Royale came out in September 2017.
Great video once again MisterEpic. I like both Hive and Mineplex Survival Games. I like Hive's for the reasons you listed above (with the exception of ping, I have decent ping for being in NA) I used to like Mineplex's Survival Games, as everyone does not spawn with armor (unlike Hypixel), I also like how Mineplex allows us to grind on our favorite games for gems, and use those gems we have garnered from those games and using them on Survival Games, whereas with Hypixel, there a separate coins for each gamemode; However, Mineplex's downfall is its abysmal anti-cheat.
Hello, sorry for commenting on your comment but I hope it's not a problem but can you take a second to throw a look on my channel and told me reviews and advice I'm new in this any criticism and advice would come in handy sorry once again and thanks in advance
I remember playing on a small server that ran custom maps with pre-set loot per chest. Incredible map design with the ability to plan out routes for grabbing loot based on your spawn and cornucopia chances? Amazing. There was also a pre-game warmup parkour/pvp area with full iron gear only. That was my OG survival games experience.
I know im quite late with this comment but this popped up in my recommended today and I just gotta say, this was a really well put together video, I dont think ive actually sat through an entire minecraft video on youtube in a while until today I agree with pretty much everything you said- the entire concept of "minecraft survival games" is a washed shadow of its former self. I've been involved with the SG community on various servers over the years (mainly badlion back in the day, and mccentral) but i honestly dont ever see it going back to how it used to be. There's no real one central server anymore for SG like there used to be with MCGamer (MCSG), and that definitely impacts the game's popularity when there's so many options available, and a lot of them are sub-par and have a lot of unsolved issues as you pointed out. There is a server out right now called backplay and it's as close to the original MCSG as you'll get- in fact, it's pretty much a full remake of the server, the way I see it. However it's more of an extremely competitive community, and that isnt a bad thing, but it isn't all about the adventurous feel anymore, it's pretty sweaty and can get toxic (that goes for all gamemodes nowadays tbh). Honestly, I dont think that "adventurous feel" will ever return to SG, the gamemode is just too old and we've all grown so accustomed to it over the years. But the server is pretty fun if you're into that competitive aspect, they have both an EU and NA servers but there usually arent many people on NA There's also a pretty big scene at the moment for SG clanwars- another extremely competitive scene, and something that i dont think would really fit the nostalgic vibe that the casual players want back. It was pretty cool seeing you play on mccentral, as that's been my main server since 2013 and I'm actually a mod and upload SG content on there, posting highlights or talking about the server's problems. I think MCC has been overlooked for a very long time in the general community up until recently, and I see a lot of new players coming to play SG on here because there's no other options available. MCC got some attention when JustAHotDog and Madmaker7 made roast videos on there a few years back, but besides those tiny bursts of attention, i feel like MCC has been a very secluded part of the general community for a long time and has a lot of untold history to it. I can definitely say that I fully agree with a lot of your criticisms of the server and I can definitely say that I've been making attempts at pushing for changes for years on certain things (example: the broken enchanting/anvil system) but only time will tell if anything actually happens. Personally I dont feel like the tier chests you can start with are that overpowered, as they're available to everyone and you only need to play for like a week or two to unlock them, but the abilities are really broken (specifically the double damage one) I also just watched your recent video on mineplex and corruption and i can definitely say you'll get bigger if you continue to put out content like this, liked + subbed
Thank you so much for the comment and yea, mc centrals survival games aren't too bad, I especially like how you are allowed to team with a other player as me and my friend always team when we play
By far my favorite server to play this on was called Project X-Craft. Instead of custom maps, it had standard randomly generated Minecraft worlds, different for each game. Blocks were breakable and you could mine for materials and collect food as normal, or steal it from other players. Kits were there but they consisted of basic things like stone tools, wood, a fishing rod, or a bow, so they were less about breaking the game and more about adapting to the map (you were free to run around and scout the map while waiting for the game to start). Loot chests were randomly placed and extremely rare, but rewarding. There could be up to 99 players, teaming and backstabbing were completely allowed and encouraged, games could go on for almost an hour, and it was a completely unique experience that could only take place in Minecraft.
I haven’t played in so long I use to play lbsg soooo much. I recently started playing again and tried to play survival game but I could even find survival games on lifeboat :( I also really miss the old lifeboat map. only the OGS will remember
same I've been trying to find sg on lifeboat for ages but apparently they took down some games that weren't popular and are now 'refurbishing' them. Idk if that means sg will be back in the future but I really hope so :(
8:47 this argument is really invalid because if it was hosted in the usa you think people in europe and asia wont have the same issues? and i checked usa and australia are about 50% of the total player base in servers. so an argument that they are the majority is also invalid here, and even if they were its still not fair compared to what other regions get in terms of ping. and you said before "its a shame"
I used to live in Asia, and US servers would always have much better ping than EU servers. It would be around 200 compared to 320+. After I moved to the US, EU servers still have the worst ping by far.
the new hungergames on munchyMc is nice, but it lacks players, you have to wait at least 10 minutes for enough players to join, and if you’re lucky, there’s 6 players, the maps could be bigger, but it’s good that they’re not big because of the small amount of players that play it
Hypixel's Blitz is less of survival games and more of their own thing. Hypixel does that, where they make a game of a genre then add a massive twist, like Skywars which is survival games in the sky.
@@owenmp4 pretty sure it still is the most popular map today, or at least one of them, anyways i agree it's kinda cool how they come up with insane mini games using their old mini games
Cubecraft Bedrock has quite a fun Survival Games. There is a paid thing but it gives everyone better items, everyone has access to the same kits and the default loot is at best enchanted iron or basic diamond. There are a decent amount of chests but not too many. The biggest problem is the sheer amount of hackers
I think that the best survival games its on cubecraft because they have good weapons and armor and good kits that are free for all players, and the maps are kind OG.
I used to play survival games on a cracked Minecraft server. It was probably in 2015, or somewhere around there. The maps were awesome, but I never got to play it anymore as I forgot what server it was - it probably was PikaNetwork, but that one stopped hosting SG - and I got stuck in the map once. I died, tried to respawn but I remained in the map. I couldn't return to the hub, so I could never play it again. I miss that, man.
same, it’s really fun even if i get 300 ms on there because woo australia, but i like how there’s no buyable kits or anything it’s really fair for everyone and fun to everyone regardless of skill level
@@TigraxPlays mine men club but sg in mc is kinda dead. Skywars and bedwars are the most popular. MCYTers stopped playing sg. The new ones never really played sg servers to keep it relevant.
There was a minecraft hunger game livestream for charity recently. So it may be a possibility that the hunger games are coming , but with "Good" intentions.
You also mentioned how easy it is to find chests in newer games, which you're definitely right about! I hadn't noticed it before. When I was younger I used to regard the non-Vareide maps as inferior, but I thought it was because I was good at them. Looking back, at least the first four maps had much better chest placement, not to mention they had character to them. In my opinion, kits and paywalls weighed the gamemode down the most. I used to be fine with minor kits, but there's something to be said about starting with nothing. Man, this brought me back! I watched the first SG tournament when it came out and I watched the three other SG tournaments that followed. I completely forgot about how I'd only play SG servers, constantly refresh websites for open games, and check my rank on the leaderboards weekly. I didn't use MCSG when they upgraded to signs because the server filled up too quickly, so I played on smaller servers. I took pride that I was the 3rd and 24th best player on two of those servers (although in retrospect, I think it's because I was playing on smaller servers with lots of members but less competition regardless). My first Minecraft UA-cam video (now private) was a guide to the first map. I was absolutely crushed when TeamVariede disbanded. Man, I kinda miss those days.
Never grew up watching these types of videos but I was told about them. Recently I've been a bit more interested in the whole concept....thanks for the enlightening video!
Really enjoyed the video for the most part, I do however wish you more qualified you claim of the maps not being adventurous or mysterious as the old maps, like provide some more examples and such, I agree with the statement honestly but believe it could've been argued more in depth, good video overall though
I could have gone into lots of detail, but basically, the old maps were bigger and chests were more scarce and hidden meaning you really had to explore for loot. There was also lots of traps and secret entryways in old maps which new maps don't have. New maps also restrict your movement with big buildings and obstacles where as the first map allowed you to go basically anywhere
I played one hunger games server called hungercraft. I had a plug-in where it introduced sanity where if you hide in a hole your sanity went down. This kept players hiding in holes at night and forced them to keep moving. This was my favorite hunger games server because they would have tournament with prizes. It is surely a memory in my childhood.
I do actually own one, however it is smaller maps but all of them are from 200-500 blocks around. It’s not very popular but I really hope it will be some day
My team and I actually just released our beta for our hunger games, we got rid of kits as it makes the game too unfair. Could you let m rn now if you have any feedback on how to make it better? We’re trying connect the og sg community! Zyanmc.net
I remember when I first started watching Minecraft videos but I played Xbox so I made my own hunger games using pistons and built an abandoned city, a. lava world, a beach and a desert that I never finished. My favourite memories when I was younger
I know this is 3 years ago but if you are interested I have a developed one already created with completely new content with the original survival games format.
i used to play on a spanish server where hunger games where pretty goood for a new player, yes there was abundant loot but not that op, there were pretty simple kits (the most overpowered one gave you an iron chestplate and 3 cooked porkchop) but the game started to die and they removed the hunger games from the server. It's sad honestly.
Mitch and Jerome being the literal Kings of MC Hunger games. Of the duo I never expected that it would be Mitch who would take the hardest fall of content and views... Jerome really stayed with it through out the years.
I feel like not only Survivial Games died, but the whole PvP community in MC. I think its not just because of cheaters, but rather the update that denied you from clicking fast etc.
I would say that the major problem with the hive isn't the ping. I played on it for like an hour and enjoyed it, but whenever I tried to get lots of kills I would always get low on health from killing another player, and then instantly get cleaned right after. i feel that they could use a system that heals you after killing someone
The Hive used to be THE place to go play Survival Games for me, especially since it has remained so loyal to the original concept for all these years. I think the need for convenience and meeting player demand caused the creation of automatic means of bringing players together near the end of matches (most commonly deathmatch and more recently the closing border mechanic). Was hoping that the Minecraft Ultimate Event would try something similar to the OG UA-camr Survival Games where dead players or admins would push players together artificially using mobs and whatnot, but they sadly resorted to the border as well.
I'm surprised that you did not cover the Performium servers Hunger Games. It's very down to earth, classic Hunger Games and they put a stop to cheaters and hackers by bringing the ban hammer down on them and sending them to banned jail.
I dunno, 2b2t does Hunger Games pretty well, you're starving by the time you get out of spawn, and you're starving in real life by the time you get into the server
quit mcsg back in 2015. by far the best game i’ve ever played and have been struggling to find game that compares since. if it wasn’t for mcsg i never would’ve gotten into competitive video games. the mystery of huahwi’s annual disappearances, sweating stats on a smurf acc, scrims... i will never forget these irreplaceable memories and the impact the game had in my life. i will never be able to describe the unique feeling that only people who played it will understand.
MCSG was the best competitive hunger games mini game in existence. Points, leaderboards, I remember competing in the top 200-300 for points and that was insane back then as the community was huge. My childhood was MCSG, old user: Hunter110s :)
8:48 hive has one of the worst anticheats. i cheated for 2 months straight. killaura, cheststealer and stuff. and why did i get banned? because of my name (i was called BigWillyMan69)
I remember, the first time I played Minecraft was with my friends on "Race for the Wool." The map had a sense of whimsy which can only be described contiguously with the void (of my early teens, and the building community). @TheMisterEpic, you're right that the early hunger game maps were empty; And similarly it gives you this awe and whimsy from living in the void. Those little chests were exciting :). It felt like after much searching, you solved a puzzle. I would love to play your survival games maps -- or anything to remember the olden days! :P :)
I still remember my first win on mcsg as a 9 year old. a bit over a 1000 matches. Finally i won, i screamed in excitement and i ran into the living room saying to my mom: MOM I WON MOM I WON! i was happy for the rest of the week and won serveral times. That is probably the best i have ever felt playing a videogame.
Have you guys ever played the soup vertent of it? Like the MCPVP "hardcore games". Here in brazil we have a quite huge community of HG, but I don't have notion if there is any popular server abroad
My favorite Survival Games server was Multicube, but sadly it has come to an end back in early 2015, mostly because Syndicate barely cared about it. Their SG plugin didn't let any kits or bought advantages, but you had a specific ability depending on the district you were randomly put in, so anyone could get any of them, but they weren't a "game changer" at all. Also, it had care package drops, acid rain, spider invasion or even meteor showers as threats from the map. The maps were the classic ones, such as SG1, SG4 and a few non-classic ones too. I really enjoyed the way the game worked there, in my opinion, one of the best experiences I've ever had on minecraft minigames. Unfortunately, no other server I found had that same plugin and it ended up dying. I still hope to find something like that again.

Same man, I still have all those chest routes stored in my mind somewhere ...

@@spencerbrown315 man I've forgotten some. All i remember is that the second ship of survival games 6 had the enchantment table xD
imo the charm of sg is that chests are random and you actually dont know what you’re gonna get but with crates and kits - kits literally give you a set of items, and the crates on mc central are ugh, you’re almost guaranteed to get a diamond helmet and some iron armor pieces if you have them maxed out, it’s honestly unfair for the new players who are actually trying for the first time, it’s honestly just odd

To this day I still remember 11 year old me watching Jordan get rekt by AntVenom the day the video came out.
I blame fortnite for the lower popularity of hunger games
Honestly true
and the new combat... shitty

Are you cereal?! Not even going to mention the iconic duo of Joey graceffa and Stacy plays? They practically were the poster children for MCSG

I know im quite late with this comment but this popped up in my recommended today and I just gotta say, this was a really well put together video, I dont think ive actually sat through an entire minecraft video on youtube in a while until today
I agree with pretty much everything you said- the entire concept of "minecraft survival games" is a washed shadow of its former self.
But the server is pretty fun if you're into that competitive aspect, they have both an EU and NA servers but there usually arent many people on NA
There's also a pretty big scene at the moment for SG clanwars- another extremely competitive scene, and something that i dont think would really fit the nostalgic vibe that the casual players want back.
Personally I dont feel like the tier chests you can start with are that overpowered, as they're available to everyone and you only need to play for like a week or two to unlock them, but the abilities are really broken (specifically the double damage one)
I also just watched your recent video on mineplex and corruption and i can definitely say you'll get bigger if you continue to put out content like this, liked + subbed

Just the Americans having "USA is the centre of the world syndrome" again. The argument is based on this.

@@chris4582 nah it really isn't at least in terms or survival games
I feel like not only Survivial Games died, but the whole PvP community in MC. I think its not just because of cheaters, but rather the update that denied you from clicking fast etc.
I would say that the major problem with the hive isn't the ping. I played on it for like an hour and enjoyed it, but whenever I tried to get lots of kills I would always get low on health from killing another player, and then instantly get cleaned right after. i feel that they could use a system that heals you after killing someone
Maybe, but the ping is only an issue if you play from certain locations
The Hive used to be THE place to go play Survival Games for me, especially since it has remained so loyal to the original concept for all these years. I think the need for convenience and meeting player demand caused the creation of automatic means of bringing players together near the end of matches (most commonly deathmatch and more recently the closing border mechanic). Was hoping that the Minecraft Ultimate Event would try something similar to the OG UA-camr Survival Games where dead players or admins would push players together artificially using mobs and whatnot, but they sadly resorted to the border as well.

The map had a sense of whimsy which can only be described contiguously with the void (of my early teens, and the building community). @TheMisterEpic, you're right that the early hunger game maps were empty; And similarly it gives you this awe and whimsy from living in the void.

Have you guys ever played the soup vertent of it? Like the MCPVP "hardcore games". Here in brazil we have a quite huge community of HG, but I don't have notion if there is any popular server abroad
Best server ever, still in a discord with like 500 people from McPvP
