I found a french guy who was really into old Dr's mentioning the pistons specifically on the older modells. He strongly recommend a certain brand för a replacement, hope I can find him for you.
Hi, I own the 600 model in the Classic motorcycle club of Crete in Greece. When I fully restored mine, I had to replace ELEVEN screw inserts in the cylinder head. It was so bad it used to blow oil onto my legs! DR engine is bullet proof, you can use 20/50 car oil or even EP90 GEARBOX oil..It wont let you down. This is why it often doesn't make sense to buy an old bike, you will spend so much repairing and upgrading in the long run it's cheaper to buy something newer..I use some old bikes KTM 525EXC (fully restored, excellent condition) HUSQVARNA TE610 efi 2008 (restored) HONDA crf300L(upgraded suspension etc DONT waste money on a loud exhaust it does F--k all(almost) DR600 Classic use only😀
Nearly same experience here. Bought an 23 years old Aprilia Pegaso 650 wich the former owner had just used without paying any special attention on service and maintainence. After 200 km of testriding the headgasket was blown. But on that bike it's not possible to take the head of as long as the motor is fully mounted in the frame. An by working on that I found a lot of small but importend things that should have been sorted out once you have the motor on the workbench. Not only on the motor.
@@Skidmate Yes, but with all the things I found that needed to be done it took me quite a while to get that thing running again. And after that it took months to get the carburetors working good. 🤔😬🤥🙄😐
helo great video. What size jet do you use on carburetor? i recently got the same bike and mine has 150 jet i dont know is this stock or someone changed it/
Thank you for commenting! I run a 145 main jet, I believe that is the stock size. For more info you can check out thumpertalk or drriders.com, there's loads of information on there 😊🙋♀️
Take out the engine and remove head and cylinder, probably your piston rings are shot and will need to be replaced. If you do take it apart, better look at all the seals and gaskets while the engine is out. all in all, your baby wants a complete overhaul :)
