    If you look at all rising prices because of inflation I do not consider the VI price unreasonable.
    As far as AF is concerned, if I need special capabilities my Canon R6 comes to play. For all other use I love the X100. Sold my V already and waiting desperately for my VI. Enjoy photography everyone 📸

    • @JayRegular

      I can agree with that, and I still stand by my comment about the VI being pretty much the most well rounded X100; the hardware can improve but I can't see the shooting experience getting that much better for future models... Unless they overhaul the lens again

    Great review Jay! The ibis sounds great, but for my type of shooting, the X100V is enough. I never shoot video, but the improved autofocus sounds tempting. I can imagine how wonderful it felt to shoot with the X100VI. It sounds like a dream, but the X100V is everything I need. Thanks for this video Jay! A personal question..... if you had the chance, would you own two X100V cameras? 😊 📷

    • @JayRegular
      @JayRegular  3 місяці тому +2

      That's right Lucy, the IBIS is useful for a handful of photographic applications, but it truly shines for handheld video. The x100vi can now be considered a true hybrid fixed lens compact camera. Haha if I had the chance I would own more than just two 😆

    I can understand your frustration with the autofocus completely. I also had to sell my X-T5 and X-H2 because the cameras are really very difficult to use in wedding photography and street photography. The AF-C is so terrible that I practically had no other choice. The X100VI will be no exception.

      People who praise the x100vi's autofocus have never touched a modern Sony camera in their life 😂 I just don't get why.... Why is it so hard to improve autofocus? Hopefully with the big sales of this camera there will be a larger R&D team to tackle this issue

      I personally followed the wedding photographer John Branch IV and his work, and he has indeed been a Fujifilm user for many years. The AF-S is indeed fast enough, but when you start wanting to capture people in motion while still desiring beautiful bokeh, you can't avoid needing a very good AF-C.

    The vi is my first Fuji camera and I am enjoying the experience but focus really is lacking imo. Definitely agree the autofocus looks to be doing an amazing job - really sticky even to the back of people’s heads but it’s missing focus so much. My friend had same issue with xh2s too.
    Many saying its user error but starting to see quite a few saying the same thing now the hype has died down. Maybe it just can’t move the lens fast enough to adjust.

    • @Mw02veg
      @Mw02veg 3 місяці тому

      For me I’m very happy with the auto focusI have no issues, I’m mainly shooting street with my X100VI but my experience started with the launch of the X-T20 so many years learning the focus system.

    • @JayRegular
      @JayRegular  3 місяці тому

      It really comes down to use cases, which is why most people won't find any issues with autofocus. It's when you start being more nimbledo you see the autofocus trying to keep up

    • @tobiahtayo5149
      @tobiahtayo5149 3 місяці тому +1

      I took some simple headshots of camera friends the other day and I’d say at least 30-40% probably more were not in focus. They weren’t moving fast etc. tracking even though it tells you it’s in focus just often isn’t fully in focus.

  • @sorenjakobson
    @sorenjakobson 3 місяці тому

    I have updated from the X100V to the VI and I have the exact opposite experience with the tracking. On animals (dogs etc.) it's not great, but the improvements I have seen on tracking people is big. I can, for example, now shoot continuously (with face detect & C) with my niece running towards me and get focused pictures all the way - I couldn't before.

    • @JayRegular
      @JayRegular  3 місяці тому +1

      Yeh, it really comes down to use case. A lot of factors like lighting, contrast and environment plays into how the autofocus performs too. Not saying the AF is not good, just saying it can be inconsistent, and that inconsistency can be frustrating.

    i love fuji and have owned the og x100 since release, but man they're frustratingly slow when it comes to adding features other manufacturers have been offering for ages. it took ages for them to add the tilt screen and now, six generations later, they finally add ibis after years of claiming the body was too small and that it wasn't necessary. in my opinion, they've spent years listening to a very small group of photographers who've always claimed that features like tilt screen, ibis, weather sealing, etc., weren't necessary. now you'll see all those same photographers vlog and blog about how great and useful those features are. i'm glad you took an honest look at the what the x100vi was offering and decided it wasn't enough to justify the upgrade. the x100 has had mediocre autofocus since its inception and i really wish more photographers would give fuji grief over it. with the og x100, it was faster to leave it in manual focus mode and just push the af button when you needed it to focus. that was fine for a first gen camera, but it has always seemed odd that a fixed lens camera with relatively wide lens wouldn't have incredibly fast and accurate autofocus, especially six generations later.

    • @JayRegular
      @JayRegular  3 місяці тому +1

      To be fair, Leica Q system didn't get a tilt screen until the 3rd model, and the M's still don't have it. I kind of understand Fujifilm's hestitations to drastically change a product that is popular in a niche community as there is a fine balance of potentially impressing newcomers and offending an existing loyal fanbase. I hope now with their global success and demand for the VI, they take bigger risks with the next iteration and make it truly better

      The end has two different parts. The latter one is in my opinion the sound of a slide projector. The first part of the end reminds me on my Ricoh GR.
      Because of the slide projector, it can not be a digital GR. Therefore my conclusion is, that he bought an old film Ricoh GR.
      The digital Ricoh GR3 is a significantly better camera than the X100V and VI by the way. I used all of them.

  • @stratocactus

    Personally, I won't upgrade to any new Fuji camera until they add more in camera crop factors. I want 4:5 and XPan crop. Until then, I'm good with the X-Pro2 (sold my X100T for that one). I know I can crop afterwards, but having the correct frame while shooting makes me shoot differently. I don't see the world through the same window :)

    • @patrickfulgencio

      There is 4:5 on the X100VI

    • @stratocactus
      @stratocactus 3 місяці тому +1

      @@patrickfulgencio that's a good start. Honestly it's my main gripe with Fuji. Their long term service for older cameras (the XPro2 is not that old and still a really good camera today) is inexistent. No updates ever. No new stuff like crop factors, or 0.5 increments for shadows/lights, and so on. Those are easy things to add in a firmware update. They just abandon their users as long as they don't buy the most recent gear.

    • @JayRegular
      @JayRegular  3 місяці тому

      xpan crop would make sense for the 40MP sensors of their latest cameras, but I agree, just having the option to see the exact framing in the viewfinder would be cool.

  • @-grey
    @-grey 3 місяці тому

    Fujifilm hasn't really improved their AF significantly since the X-T3.
    The IBIS is a nice add if you like to shoot at night, it's not the best but it's at least on par with Canon lens IS.
    It seems the 40mp is suboptimised or the lens design can't support it fully, but it's not a pixel peeper camera anyway. It would have been nice to start wider to use the crop potential of 40mp more - Like the Q3.
    Reala could have been a Firmware update. 😏
    The biggest update they've really made in the last 4 years is that it's in stock. I think they just couldn't source the parts to continue manufacture of the V and they didn't want to confuse people any more by calling this the X100VS or X100V II, so they thew in the 40mp and called it a full baked upgrade.
    Great camera if it's your entry point into Fujifilm or Photography. 2020 camera tech is still good. I'd just personally prefer if Fujifilm stopped trying to make BSI/Stacked/High megapixel sensors and improved the AF to at least reach the middle of the pack with Panasonic and Nikon PDAF.
