A few of you have reached out over on Facebook this week after seeing me selling a whole bunch of fujifilm gear! A little worried that my that spells the end of Fujifilm content on the channel!
However thats not the case! But... a lot of gear is being sold! With some very exciting new purchases coming in the next couple of months!
The FX30 with the sigma is so small and so powerful that I can absolutely understand why you're selling the X-H2. I wish I hadn't sold the X-T5. The Sonys are really tough when it comes to leisure photography. I thought it wouldn't be a problem, but it's like driving a work van for fun instead of a sleek X-T5 convertible.
This was basically me, I decided to move away from fuji, but couldn't let go of the x-pro 2. My fuji kit is now only X-pro2 with 18 f2, 27 2.8 WR, and 35 f1.4.
@@notverysharp it’s a tough camera to let go isn’t it! 😂
Now then. Totally agree about the X-Pro 2. A solid, top performing camera that begs you to use it. I use them for all my photography including professional and personal work. I have two and use them a lot. So therefore my lens range is very broad. I do love the 35 f2 and would highly recommend it. The same with the 50 f2. They are perfect for the X-Pro. Like many others, I’m keen to see what they do with the new iteration of this camera (if anything). I am worried about their apparent dip in quality so a new version needs to be bloody solid and up its game with the viewfinder. Larger, enabling the 18mm field of view in OVF and also with a higher ratio nearer to 1:1. The EVF resolution needs to improve too. Thanks for this and I look forward to your future releases
I just traded in the XH2s along with the 18 f1.4, 33 f1.4 and 90 f2 for the Sony system two days ago. The main reason being the train wreck firmware (update 7). If I can't use continuous AF reliably why would I keep the camera. It's fine if talking head video and single AF stills is all you do, but if you need continuous AF, look elsewhere. It is part of my workflow so I can't wait for Fuji to fix it. I also kept the x-pro 3 and the compact lenses and personal photos also the emotional attachment. I also own an M11 that I use far more for basically the same applications as the Xpro3. You'll be fine with the 35 f2, as long as I have the Xpro3 I'll keep the 35 f2 along with the 18, 23 and the 50.
@@EaseCanada I didn’t upgrade my firmware so wasn’t affected too badly with that thankfully!
It’s a weird state of affairs having people excited about that fact I hadn’t upgraded it when selling it!
Selling a H2s with such lenses because of FW and AF is ridiculous 😂. No problems here with this camera with the right settings 🤷♂️.
@@Powerland56 could you please post your magic settings? I keep hearing this but literally nobody goes into detail. Do you really think users didn't test every possibility before selling their stuff as a last resort? What are you producing, what AF mode do you use, what are your settings? Thanks in advance
@@JakeChambersOy Yes, of course: Firstly, and not unimportantly, the energy level must be set to increased or boosted. Set it once and forget it. Secondly, focus priority should be set for AF-C, unfortunately the default is shutter priority. Thirdly, AF+MF must not be set to on, otherwise focus priority will become shutter priority without you realising it. There are also the AFC settings, which can be adjusted depending on the situation.
@@Powerland56 Thank you, I use these since the X-T2. Didn't help much to get reliable AF-C Tracking on my X-T5 running v4.00. I'm back on v2.10 and it's ok-ish now. But still I never get more than a handful shots perfectly in focus when I have somebody coming directly towards the camera. Not running, simply walking. You can see what I mean when you check for example iamtongue latest video.
You can bet that any serious Fujifilm user already knows about these settings. So if somebody decides to jump ship, there's probably a good reason for that.
Old guy advice here: Rather than sell the 33mm 1.4, put it on a shelf and pretend you sold it. If you do realize a compelling permanent-need, take it off the shelf. However, if you are able to do all of your workflow without missing it, then take it off the shelf and then sell it; it’s not going to mold or lose value in this timeframe.
Moral of the story: you will by far, save more money, than taking a hit every time you want to change-up your arsenal!
There is a lot of money and ‘things’ I wish I had back… 😢
More than happy with my XT2 and xf18mmf2 & XF35mm1.4. All I ever need
Can’t wait for all the Fuji gear that’s going to flood the used market over the next few months, with so many influencers ditching the brand
Great vid interesting talk.
Being a Leica shooter you would think I would go for an xpro camera. But for some reason I never really like them. Instead huge fan of the Xt-3 and Fuji being Fuji they don’t really have great tracking. So as single pointer the xt-3 is a great system camera esp when pair with the battery grip for winter shooting. It feels great with bigger lens and still great with small lens…just the right size. Lens kit…8-16, 23 f1.4, 35f1.4 and Voigtlander 50mm f1.2 Lm. 150-600
Hi, I am totally there with you! I just sold the X-H2S and a couple of lenses. I had it as long as you. I never had the X100 series because I want interchangeable lens cameras. I kept my X-t30ii, the 27mm f/2, 35mm f/2, and the 70-300mm. This gives me a full travel kit that does street, portraits and some small amount of wildlife. Cheers!
Never liked the X-Pro series, because you are more or less forced to only use the smallest lenses. The XT series is still compact, but the new f/1.4 lenses fit like a glove. And I really would not want to ditch the new 18mm and 33mm f/1.4 lenses; they’re the goats:)
I have an XH2s with the Sigma 18-35/1.8 for work. It’s big. But it’s just for work. My fun camera is an XE4 with the 23/2. I also have the Voigtlander 23/1.2 for more manual experience.
I only had the XE4 for a week a few years back but loved it!
Keeping the 23/f2 and the X100V you have the 23mm double placed. Wouldnt it be better so sell the 23/f2 and keep the 33/1,4 instead? (That is what I did with my X100VI and the X-Pro3)
@@dimesdede the problem is the X100V isn’t really mine! It’s basically owned by the Mrs!
@@Goughie 😆
Moved from my xh2s to an a7cii recently. Fuji is lovely and if they could just fix the autofocus issue, I'd move back with the quickness. Kept my x100vi since I don't use that for continuous af/shots.
I left Fuji and the xh2s and went with the Nikon ZF. Super satisfied with the AF and the build quality.
Great video as always. I assure you that you are going to miss the 33mm F1.4. I literally used almost all Fuji lenses, and I confirm by far that the 33mm f1.4 is best Fuji lens I’ve ever used. It is “THE” perfect lens. I own the 35mm F2, but honestly once you use the 33 you can’t go back and use the 35. That is an obvious downgrade. Other than that, I believe you took the right decision to sell the zooms 😊
@@makmak69L7 ahah! I think you might be right; I agree it’s potentially the best lens they’ve made!
Every now and then I'll be looking for something in my cabinet and ask myself why there's so much clutter there. Maybe I should take this video as a sign.
Man I did this same process a few months ago but ended up selling all my Fuji. Now only sticking with Leica & Sony.
I've followed your channel & advice over the years & your Fuji journey with interest.
I AGREE WHOLE HEARTEDLY WITH YOUR FUJI KIT DECISION!
If it were not for an offer I couldn't refuse, I'd have retained my X-Pro2 & original 18 & 35mm lenses - but a straight swap for a used Leica Q, was a no brainer!
I'd already migrated to a Sony A9 for my wildlife/landscape photography - the auto focus (& manual focus?) was an eye opener, and the lens choices @ the longer focal ranges matched the Sony bodies so much better - the newish Tamron 50-400 is an extremely versatile option.
It's with a heavy heart that I've said goodbye to Fuji over the last 10 years or so!
But have no fear Goughie, I will still be watching your channel for your interesting photographic insights!
John G
I totally can understand you. If you are interested I want to change my 35 F.2 for a 33mm 1.4 in my XT5.
If you’re U.K. based reach out on insta!
Seems odd to me to keep just the 18 and 23. I get they are compact, but a 27 at least would offer a little more separation. But really 18+33 is a killer combo...or get that 35 (which IMO is more interesting even if less "perfect"). The 30mm f2.8 is a great compact lens, too.
I have the 1.4 versions of these plus others, and really there's quite some overlap in use cases. I'd pair 18 with a 33/56 and go no wider. But the 23 can at times be too narrow, so the 14 or 16 2.8 gets tossed in the bag as well. Plus a 56/90.
I thought you were to justify with reference to the bigger lenses blocking the OVF to be honest!
It feels like what you really need is just something like the sigma 18-50 (warning, lots of distortion is being corrected) or the new 16-55.
I agree that the XPro2 is the ultimate sweet spot for Fujifilm cams (after owning 16 of them). I've actually owned the XPro3 3x and I couldn't get past the gimmick screen as much as I tried and the XPro1 just feels a bit too ancient in terms of speed and features.
I wish you could make more photography related content and less gear related.
@@snapsntravel two really big trips coming in September!
i hope a new x-pro will have back the OVF of the x-pro2. that camera then, together with its new processor and a tilting screen, will be a real temptation for me.
@@martinphilipps8678 for sure! Fingers crossed!
I sold everything but the Xt3 and the 23mm 1.4 wr. I can now shoot basically everything with hight quality.
Started with the xt30, loved it but needed a body that was suitable for paid work. Bought the x pro3 which I still love, but I bought the xh2 for about 1000€ and I enjoy this camera so much that I am selling my x pro3 now. I also got the x100vi which leaves me at least one rangefinder styled camera :) I think I might switch back to the x pro line if the x pro4 is good! Been considering selling my x100vi to buy a Leica M240 but something tells me it would be a bit madness to buy a decade old camera where I need to edit raw Files (which I want to avoid).
What do you think of X-E2,3… range? Which agronomically feels close in hands..
@@amdesidik305 I really enjoyed by brief week with the XE4! All about if you want the optical viewfinder I guess! And weather sealing!
Great and honest video!
Makes sense to sell those in your case. Curious about the Sony FX30.
Depending on your use cases, the recent macro Fuji 30mm might be a good choice. It is also of compact design.
Cheers mate!
@@luxdalet did a video on that one!
the 23mm f/2 is goated how are you liking the fx30 so far?
@@kendrasananikone it is!! Loving it! 👌🏻
All the complaints of the softness at close focus for the XF23mm f2 has kept me away from it. I like to focal length and f2 would fit with my 18mm f2 and 50mm f2 but I really like a lens that remains sharp whether the focus is 0.3m or 3m or infinity and there’s too many lens tests that show that’s not the case for the 23mm f2 which is a bummer. I’m still using the 2nd version of the XF28mm f2.8 instead. It’s got good close focus performance
Such a shame that Fuji never updated that 18mm f/2. The size and form factor combined with the x-pro series, is just the Fuji soul. But they decided to go another path. That is why I left that system. And they don't care about what I think anyway 😉
@@jhj_dk I wonder if they will when the XPro4 comes out
@@Goughie Would be so nice!
Either way, on Fuji or not, i still like your images and your thoughtful narration. Carry on!
@@craigcarlson4022 thank you!
Do you have any links for the XF 18mm f2? I can’t really find it under $400 and I think that’s a bit steep for what you are getting. But I cannot find ANY 28mm focal length lens for Fuji 😭😭.
Hi Goughie, what is it that you have attatched to the X100V's lens? Filter? Adaptor?
@@SAMESAMBUTDIFFERENT it’s a UV filter, buts part of a kit that also attaches a hood! But I took the hood off for this
@@Goughie cool, and may I please ask what ‘kit’ exactly is it?
What will you use if you want to take photos of wildlife?
This is my missing link at the moment! I haven’t shot wildlife in over a year but no doubt the desire will come back at some point
started with the original x100, now sold my x100V and got a sony a7CII. best decision
@@thisisdiegoye it’s a camera I’ve considered trying! But never seriously enough to actually do it
X-Pro 2 for £600?? Maybe if it's broken. They are over $1100 USD.
Annoying that they are still expensive in the US
You're going to miss the 33mm f1.4. 35 f2.0 is nice but doesn't compare to the 33.
Who cares what you are selling it’s all click bait to get views, and that’s a shame because you are a pretty good photographer don’t sell yourself down the river because you have talent lad.
@@b.2221 cheers!
Went over to nikon Done with the 1990 style focus
Hope some other real brand buys them off for their "color science" via software update that actually works right
@@blabler2533 I find myself happier to sit and edit now; I’ve found myself enjoying it more, there was definitely a period where I loved shooting JPEGs and not editing much
No!! 33mm no!!! You will regret
@@TungstenOvergaard ahah! It’s potentially Fujis best lens! I think I may! Worst case I’ll buy it back!
At first I thought perhaps, like so many, you purchased the Nikon ZF and prematurely completely abandoned the Fuji system. Thank god that is not the case.
To make a new video ?
Buy the 35 f 1.4 and skip the f2. Thank us all later. Lol
