You don't absolutely need to run 400m as US trials to make their 4x400 relay team. In 2022 Abby Steiner did not run a single individual 400m race and was on the Oregon 4x400 team.

Athing Mu is a major player and she's immensely talented; however, Noah Lyles is the brightest star and I know SI is into pushing an agendas these days (69 year old Gayle King on a swimsuit cover was laughable) but at least give the brother some kudos. He's the fastest sprinter in the world at 100m and 200m which are the most prestigious events in Track and field and yet there's no mention of him and no SI covers this year leading up to the 2024 Olympics.. That's crazy.
