- At least four law enforcement officers were killed in Charlotte, North Carolina while trying to serve a warrant. The fallen included a deputy U.S. marshal; two members of the North Carolina Department of Corrections, identified as Sam Poloche and Alden Elliott; and one member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Joshua Eyer.
Police said an armed man who exited the house where the warrant was being served was shot and killed in the front yard. He was later identified by police as 39-year-old Terry Clark Hughes Jr.
CBS News' Dave Malkoff reports from Charlotte.

Just another example of the deterioration of this country. It's to late now for recovery.

There are 2.5 million people incarcerated in the USA. By 2025 that number is supposed to hit 3 million.
What's the magic number where you start to "feel safe"?
While I agree that the country is deteriorating in many ways, this isn't really the best example of that. Not trying to dismiss the magnitude of this incident, but let's be honest, criminals and bad guys (and sometimes even decent people and citizens pushed into a corner by overzealous law enforcement) shooting and killing policeman has happened rather consistently throughout American history ever since the 6-shooter revolver pistol was invented and we were still riding horses for transportation. The difference now is that no matter where it happens, it will be on the internet and 30+ TV channels nonstop for a week. EVERYBODY will know about it. Back in the day, if it didn't happen in your neck of the woods, it would be in the National section of your newspaper in a small article on the bottom of page 3 one time about a week after it happened, and it probably wouldn't even get a mention on one of 3 network nightly news shows. Four policeman getting killed by the same criminal probably would have always gotten on the news, but most single policeman deaths usually did not. Same thing goes for floods, hurricanes, and wildfires, and they'll try and convince you that they are happening a lot more often because of some ridiculous reasons like you driving a gas powered car or some other nonsense.

Terry Clark Hughes, Jr., Black Male, 39 years old was the fugitive on the run, charged with fleeing officers 2 counts and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He fired first on the US MARSHALLS task force and he was shot and killed on the front lawn of the residence. Then someone opened fire upon the officers from inside the house. A woman and a 17 year old male were found inside with a high powered rifle. Both are in custody and are being questioned
I was noticing the same, not so good at reporting facts!
It sounds like they did a good job reporting the facts. I don't know how much more information you are expecting in a very short news broadcast. I'm sure additional details will follow.
A lot of misinformation & assumptions in the comment section. I live about 2 mi. from the scene where this occurred in Charlotte. Everything started going down about 01:30 PM. 4 members of the US Marshall's local task force were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on a fugitive felon in possession of a high-powered rifle. Apparently, the suspect came out the front door of the residence shooting. He shot & killed 3 of the task force officers, but was shot dead by one or more of them. The surviving member called for back-up, as someone inside the residence began shooting. When local police & other law enforcement officers began arriving, 4 local Charlotte officers were shot & wounded, & one subsequently died in the hospital. After a 3-hr. stand-off, the local SWAT team stormed the residence & apprehended 2 suspects inside. Every law enforcement officer knows that any such situation is risky, but it's their job, & they face the same risk any time they answer any kind of call. They are human, just like anyone else; sadly, they became the victims of violent criminals in this instance, as they were simply doing their job to get those criminals off the street.
They need training it is obvious that they didn't retreat under fire but called in more victims?
@@clisediagonzalez5010 The law enforcement officers serving the warrant were US Marshalls, some of the best-trained law officers in the country, & serving warrants is something they do all the time, everywhere. Anytime a law officer is attacked while performing his or her duty, they are TRAINED to call for back-up. Had other officers not responded, the remaining wounded Marshall would probably have been killed by the suspects who were shooting from inside the house, & they could also have begun shooting at civilians. Law officers are TRAINED to run toward the danger, & to neutralize it before it becomes a danger to the community. That's what being in law enforcement means.
They are victims of outdated second amendment
@cdfdesantis699 you never put the lives of officers at risk. This was poorly done, and now we mourn the fallen men led to be targeted.
@@clisediagonzalez5010 My friend, apparently, that was the attitude of the law enforcement officers who responded to the Uvalde, TX school shooting, & it cost the lives of children & teachers. Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every single day. Everytime they put on their shield, they make themselves a target. No one becomes a police officer because it's SAFE. They are the "thin blue line" that stands between honest citizens & criminals, & they willingly accept the risk.
