great pic. Everyone was great in it: Holbrook, Waterston, Brolin, Gould- heck even OJ was good. But it was Jerry Goldsmith's brilliant music score that elevated this movie to new levels.
when the gear hit the windshield. That has always stuck with me. Back in the day, that was an incredible effect.
I love science fiction and have this movie on DVD.Capricorn One is a great movie!

Damn good film. really good acting, really good soundtrack, really good script. After seeing this you are left with the very uncomfortable feeling if the real Moon landing was staged too.

This is a movie. Fiction.
If they even tried to fake the moon landing, it would have been easy to expose it. The russians were monitoring the whole landing and they knew we were there.
You can still see the remains of each landing so forget it.
Great scene from a great movie.
Glad that you enjoyed it. Remake it rumored for some time, but nothing yet. This was a fave when I was a kid, NBC Sunday night. Also WGN on a snow night.

The second half is sped up ruining the Goldsmith music and there's flange on the audio. I appreciate seeing this scene again, but it is compromised by these issues..
I remember that brief time when NBC re-designed that dumbass logo seen here when Hal Holbrook (AKA Deep throat and many other memorable roles)does the press conference.

Plot hole? - why didn't they use the radio on the plane, they must have one to communicate with airports for landing etc.
Bigger plot hole is why did the learjet have no fuel? It was presumably all fueled up to take them to the splashdown site before they abruptly turned around. The plane only sustained slight damage (loss of 1 landing gear), not enough to cause a fuel leak. Never made any sense to me.
As far as the radio is concerned, my assumption is they were out in the middle of nowhere, out of range to contact anyone.
Paul Morgan, maybe the radio was wiretapped and they were afraid to use it or else the Deep State would be able to track them down easier.

Someone needs to tell you your an idiot, challenger was not a heat shield you dope it didn't make it out of earth let alone reentry to use the hear shield which a shuttle has tiles. Your whole reasoning is wrong on a basic level, stop spreading mistrust and learn some basic science
Dumb, dumb movie, but if you pretend to take it seriously it's enjoyable. Great Jerry Goldsmith score that was the only thing that anyone remembered about it until conspiracy foolishness became the rage again.
Damnation Alley(77):: another dumb / good-natured bubblegum-headed movie with an impressive Jerry Goldsmith score.
Cassandra Crossing / Twilight Last Gleaming scores also vquite memorable.
TLG score was on CD for a while back in the 90s. IBelieve it is a collector's item now.
