Another Prime Days is coming up and I thought why not celebrate the REAL Prime, Optimus. A father to a generation, here's to 40 years of Optimus Prime and the Transformers.

For me, it was a double wammy, I lost my dad in 1985, and then this movie came out. Family took us trying to cheer us up, they knew we loved transformers. Brother I am man enough, to say that my scars run deep. I cried and left the theater a broken kid. I love and hate this movie. Optimus Prime was absolutely a cartoon father figure always caring for his autobots, always doing what was right even if it meant he had to give his life. He is my favorite transformer as he reminds me of my dad. I don't know if Hasbro knows what they did to us, but I will always love Optimus Prime. Thanks for the great content and the somber but wonderful memories.

@GENXPERIENCE Thank you for responding to my comment. I couldn't hold back the tears or my comment watching this video. Hearing you explain Optimus the way you did was simply a gift. Thanks again, and please keep it up. Many of us don't comment much, but we deeply love your videos, and we deeply love our 80s commercialized cartoons that deeply connected with us.

His death broke a lot kids. He was definitely my cartoon father figure. I was deeply hurt by that scene. Even today, as a grown ass 46 year old man, I can get a lil misty eyed when I see that clip of him turning gray.

Funny, but even when I finally watched my show on the big TV, that is exactly what I did. Thanks for the comment.

What an unexpectedly sweet story. I didn’t know Optimus Prime was a father figure. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, he gained that over time. He was someone we looked up to in that way.

Bumblebee was like a son to Optimus Prime. He would teach Bumblebee with patience.

Honestly, for some of us, we knew Optimus more than our own fathers. He is our hero, showing us ethics and morals.

My dad wasn't an ideal father. Optimus is absolutely a father figure for many of us. One of my college friends once said he wished he could send Prime cards on Father's Day. Wonderful character, in both the comic and the cartoon.

I read this out loud to a friend who is not emotionally connected to OP and they just thought it was the most heartwarming thing. A card for father's day...we knew how special OP was when we were kids, and it is still true today. Thank you

We saw this movie in theaters as kids and we're all amped up... and then Optimus Prime died. This was sould wrenching along the lines of that scene from The Neverending Story. You know the one.

Thanks for such a personal and moving trip to the childhood memories! :) Interesting that the Dark Awakening episode turned out to do very little to soothe the loss -- actually, it made it even worse, by rubbing the salt into the wound because our beloved character was now a robot zombie! I still remember how horrifying that episode was when I was like 6 or something.
On a side note, Frank Welker did in fact join the cast of the live-action Transformers movies -- just not the first one. He's in fact voicing either Megatron or Galvatron, Soundwave or Shockwave in all movies directed by Michael Bay, except for the first one :)

My mother volunteered with Kids Yule Love. After Optimus had been axed, we were meeting the charity director in the space he was renting to hold the donated toys. There were crates of G1 Pepsi Optimus Primes. I had most of the G1 toys and I knew nothing about a Pepsi variation. I wanted one so badly.
Decades later, I finally found one in box that was more than my car. I have no idea what entity donated the boxes of Primes, but that was especially generous considering their apparent rarity.

Hmmm. You've left me wondering how different this 3-time divorced gen-x girl might have turned out had she been exposed to Optimus Prime's fatherly influence back during those crucial years of development. Could have been a very different life, I'm thinking 🤔
