It's unironically the worst g1 toy and I will not be accepting any other figures for that spot
In defense of G1 Ironhide/Ratchet, the animation inaccuracies are not the fault of the figure. The figure was designed for Diaclone, which was a transforming mecha line (hence the pilot seats on them and Prime), and was imported for Transformers.
Thus, the animation inaccuracies are the fault of the animation, not the toy.
Plus the toy is offering the same battle platform play style as Optimus but for way less. That's kinda neat.
@@shadowednight1600there was a guy on TFW who managed to pull it off back in 2009. In addition to the head upgrades by Besttoys as well as the modified articulation in the limbs, he also modified the arms to be connected on ball jointed struts so they can be at the same level as the torso.

Imagine a Transformers anime where all the Convoys and Optimus Primes crossover together like the Spider-Verse. You get G1 Convoy, Optimus Primal, War For Cybertron Optimus Prime (yes both game and Netflix), etc. And then they throw in the Toy Convoy here with his janky 80s toy proportions, who can still bust Decepticon heads lol.
I've been thinking about that for months now. I'd love to see that.
I the wiki mentions a Convoy council that has armada and rid prime in it, I could be wrong tho.
Then there's evil Optimuses like Scourge, Nemesis, Gilthor, Toxitron, Shattered Glass, and on occasion Motormaster (aka Motorbreath)
They all gotta be height accurate too. Let's get 6 meter tall G1 Optimus next to the IDW Optimus who stands at nearly double that, 11.6 meters

Guess I didn't expect a jobby video on wrestlemainia night one.
I actually had an original G1 Optimus, but lost him. All I had left was his arm, then that disappeared. I’d honestly be interested in getting this figure.
Also, Diaclone figures are really small, smaller than even the figures that came with MP-44.
I also had the G1... I got him for Christmas alongside Megatron... I bought myself the Toy Edition with Trailer as ... Well I am 51 now - My OG has long since gone!!!
Well worth the purchase!!! Its bloody nice!!! And if the minor Paint apps bother you - Some simple acrylics are enough to touch up the gun and give him his proper Blue Eyes (I have not done that... But only as all my paints dried up! I need to get some new ones!)
EDIT: I did mange to source a G1 Optimus for my son some 12 years ago at a Thrift Store... In Box, though battered and beaten... Stickers sun worn... I did not expect much but the main model was all there! Imagine my shock when I opened it up and it had all the accessories and its only real issue was a couple of Broken parts on the Anti-Aircraft gun...
Bearing in mind a G1 Optimus in that rough condition box here in the UK easily sells for £80 on the Secondary Market... And I got it for £30!!!
My Son still has it... He wont let it go... I even offered to get some repro parts but he prefers it the way it is... He likes that "Sense of Nostalgia" - HE WASN'T EVEN BORN UNTIL 1997!!!
My greatest hope for Missing Link is that we'll get new versions of non HasTak molds (like Shockwave), or unproduced toys (Unicron).
Yoo...an actual release or reimagining of that Unicron would be awesome.
Vangelus described the gas nozzle as roller's drip-whip once, and that's been sitting rent free in my head ever since.

The G1 Optimus was always one of the best 84 toys and in general one of my favorite Transformers figures (I was born 11 years after 1984 btw). I'm gonna pick it up because the only issue with the old toy was no articulation
This design for optimus prime always hits different for me personally. Since my uncle had the original toy when he was a kid, and I got the walmart reissue. Might pick this one up when it gets back in stock.

Man, I know full well that a trailer is just gonna be cool for five minutes and then sit in a closet or drawer somewhere. But I still buy one for every Prime, for some reason. I might have a problem.
I really wish they would do a missing link Ultra Magnus. First of all, they can reuse the missing link Prime and we all know Hastak loves reusing toys. But I also want to see how they would manage his armor and how they could make it more articulated. I even would be very interested in his original diaclone colors.

I grew up playing with my dad's original Optimus G1, I would love to get this for him one day... He's not a collector (except of random trinkets he finds while traveling) but one of the few things he seemed to ever talk about being excited over as a kid was his transformers. Can't wait to be out of school to pick this up at extortionary aftermarket prices 😊

Nice. I got my original optimus prime toy from my older brother, because I was only 1 year old when Transformers happened, and having the C-01 is perfect for my mid-life crisis. Honestly not surprised you're not insane for this figure, but cool that you still like it! Also the G1 Ironhide toy was the first one that popped into my mind after experiencing this one, and I WANT to see Takara do that one! It'd be funny as shit. Do a 2-pack, him and Ratchet, it'll be great!
Missing Link G1 Optimus Prime looks awesome. It's like TakaraTomy gave the original G1 Optimus Prime figure the Studio Series/Masterpiece treatment! I also would like to see some Missing Link versions of G1 Bumblebee, the G1 Seekers, the G1 Coneheads, G1 Megatron, etc..

I still want a Masterpiece Optimus though... That said, I woudl also love to see more "Missing Link" ... Much as I loved the old Megatron, He is one where I woudl 100% be looking to get the Anime Edition! He was fun but DAMN HIS TOY WAS SO ... CLUNKY!!! I mean, Megatron had a WEINER!!!!

I think this recent trend of re-releasing old toys but with modern articulation is pretty neat since it caters to both people who have nostalgia for them but also people who just want a cool poseable toy.

So I got this figure and personally I love it. I am not sure how much of it is just my own personal nostalgia or not. I wasn’t alive in the 80s I am a 99 baby but I got one of the reissues that came out in like 2008 or so and I loved that toy as much as I loved my other transformers. So I think that childhood experience with the toy definitely plays into how I feel about this toy.
