Yep, the PL money is needed to right the ship and hopefully get the club financially stable, especially with the parachute payments. £8 mill in bonuses still to be paid out as well. The club needs restructuring top to bottom.
Exactly, 1 year in the prem followed by 3 years of parachute payments is about £180m. In comparison 4 years in the championship comes to about £30m. The best business model for a club that can't stay in the prem, is to be promoted as often as possible and yo-yo up and down.

The midfield and attack is much weaker than last season. 2: The doom and gloom might be short lived because apparently Sheff Utd still have 4 or 5 major signings to make before the transfer window closes. So lets see what happens in the coming weeks.

Luton and Sheffield are really going head to head to see who can break Derby's recorrd from 2007/08. One is signing like they barely survived the Championship last season and the other is selling like they just got relegated into League 1
Sheffield are the oldest club in the world and don't even play league football. Always makes me smile how people get Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield FC mixed up.
Been expecting a video of this type from Alfie for a few weeks now. I've said it'll be a tough ask to stay up. Even with Ndiaye and Berge it was going to be a struggle. Hopefully the money we get will get pumped into the squad for replacements and quickly. Saturdays starting 11 will be rough but its not Heckys fault nor the players so we just have to get behind them and hope it gets better
@@Fentonio03 You set the new record for the most goals conceded in a 38 games season, beating Derby by eight goals with 3 matches still to go, so you'll probably also beat Swindon Town's record of 100 goals, and they had to play four more games. I can only imagine the horrors you had to endure this season, but at least you have something to look forward to in the Championship (if that makes you feel any better). In reality, if any of the promoted teams survives that will be a massive overachievement, bordering on a miracle. As someone had already said, Luton were buying as if they barely survived in the Championship, Sheffield were selling as if they just got relegated to League One, and Burnley basically looked at the team that got them promoted and decided "we don't need any of that", then placed all their survival hopes on a bunch of children

The prem is impossible to compete in unless you spend 60m+ and I guarantee we won’t be the last team to get torn apart and have a dire season like this the way it’s going. As a Sky Blue, I'd say Sheffield United are far from screwed now they have Gustavo Hamer. And Gyokeres was sold for €20million, making Ndiaye's price look fair.
I’m happy with everyone writing us off as it takes the pressure off us. The only player we’ve ‘lost’ is N’Daiye which is a big loss. Berge has been bang average and half our fan base hasn’t warmed to him in 3.5 years. We are aiming for another 4 signings before September 1st after fetching in; Traore, Slimanè, Trusty, Larouci and Vinicius Souza. We are going to have a hard season but everyone thinks we are dead certs so we have no expectations on us
Bro trust me Vini Souza is a baller. And while I didn't watch Trusty while he was away from Arsenal, his stats were pretty good. Either you have a horrible season or you do what Bournemouth done last season
This kinda reminds me of when Forest got promoted by hammering the Div.1 with Kevin Campbell and Pierre Van Hooijdonk banging in excessive goals. Upon gaining promotion, they proceeded to sell all their good players in a fire sale whilst PvH was on holiday, after having convinced him to stay by promising to invest in the squad and be able to compete effectively at PL level. You can all see how that went down with Pierre..... and we know Forest went down like a Steve Stone!
As a Sheffield United fan, I think if Heckingbottom keeps us above 20th he should get the keys to the city. The only positive is that one of our key strengths last season was not conceding goals (even against Spurs in the FA Cup). If our defense remains tough to crack we have a shot at getting a lot of home draws
"Your blood pressure is too high! You're gonna die!" "Your blood pressure is too low! You're gonna die!" This happens all the time life. There's a sweet spot you have to hit.
yes there is a middle ground between spending 150million in your first season up and going into the premier league with a squad worse than the squad which got you there
Superb critique. I'm a Southampton fan but have been following Hegginbottom's career since he began. He is a superb manager and I'd love to see Sheff Utd beat all the odds and survive. If they do survive Hegginbottom deserves to be crowned the best football league manager. If he survives at the club all season, that'll be just as miraculous. Good luck Sheffield Utd. And you still wear proper red and white stripes!
We will stay up, this is media talk. We may stay up in 17th on the final day but it wouldn't be Sheff Utd if it wasn't an emotional rollercoaster. We still have enough in this squad, TalkSport just being TalkSport.
What a lot of people who haven't watched us regularly don't see with Berge is that, yes he's a brilliant player and has excellent moments, but he also goes missing in games a lot and is too far laid back, not putting effort into tackles. Even worse is he's the biggest bloke on the pitch but doesn't even bother trying to win aerial duels. As for Ndiaye can't really blame him. Could have gone last year for a lot more money but stayed to get us promoted. And it was his boyhood club that came for him. Most people would do it. Also we offered a contract that would have made him the highest paid player in our history which he turned down to go to the club he supports. Wish nothing but the best for him. Both of these were going at some point anyway whether we stayed up or went down, so selling now makes more sense than letting them run the last year of their contract down and then go for nothing. £20m/£12m and a sell on clause is better than £0 and no sell on clause.
I was at a sports industry media event earlier this year where Dozy Mmobuosi made “an entrance!” mobbed by his entourage of bodyguards. I know first impressions aren’t always right, but at the time I thought that if the EFL do proper due-diligence then there’s no way that this guys is going to pass any EFL ownership criteria!

Wednesday seems like 1860 Munich, nothing but ol days anymore, and Sheff FC could find you a Youngster or three. Seems like I gonna hear much from Utd again, in the years to come! 👏 Stay sincere!
Sheffield United are screwed is an understatement. Lost most of the key players, lack of funds to replace players and stuck with the dross. They could smash Derby's record for the worst Premier League team ever.
They have the hope that there's usually a couple of teams who suddenly crash unexpectedly, and other promoted teams sometimes struggle. I'm clutching at straws for them!
This transfer shocked us Burnley fans too, especially as they came up with us, that said we have never had a good transfer window so maybe this makes up for it. Hard luck Sheffield fans, but think getting Hamer will be a good replacement
Season ticket holder here. Berge is a weird one to sum up. He's plays football like a Rolls Royce doing 70mph on the motorway. Plays in a classy effortless way, but he never grabs a game by the scruff of the neck. Also can go missing in matches and eventhough he's a man mountain he's quite weak in the challenge. We're not too sad to lose him because he's blows hot and cold during matches and we never found his best position but Blades do accept he has quality and could do really well at another club. He's a nice guy so we wish him well.
@@SubZero589I watched the match and he was neat and tidy but underwhelming like he usually is when he ever he played for us in defensive midfield in front of our back 5. Altho to be fair it was Man City so maybe has an excuse. We experimented 2 years ago by pushing him more forward and encouraging him to have forceful runs and he was much better. Most Blades liked the look of Berge and we accept he's got quality but it's as though he's stuck in 2nd gear. We always thought he needed slapping around the face and told to wake up and go for it. Every now and then he started games where he was up for it and looked really good. Most Blades will be watching with interest, it could go either way regards having success at BFC.
Souza just brought in for £10.5m. Akpom rumoured for £8m, Hamer for £15m, Smallbone for £7m, Lewis O’Brien for around £15m, loans for Palmer or Archer and a return for McAtee/Doyle. Pull some of these off and suddenly it’s a good window.
We offered Ndiaye a new contract last season but he rejected due to not knowing if we will get promoted, he wanted to leave as it was his boyhood club and we can’t do anything about that. Berge refused to sign a new deal and owner decided to cash in as he is replaceable. We now have closer to £40million to spend but if he kept both we would have £10million to spend. We also have an option to extend contracts on majority of our players(e.g. Oli mcburnie and Wes foderingham)
@Wickerbasket they have lots of football league players billy sharp should of stayed to play against his old club Nottingham forest while on loan from Southampton
They're doing the right thing for a provincial club. Take the money and run. Rinse and repeat enough times and they might be big enough to compete with Premiership clubs. At this stage they should be happy for their season in the sun. They might even surprise a few people though I doubt it.
My prediction? 16th. They'll stay up after winning 2 and drawing 3 of their last 5, and their 16th will be the first time they are out of the bottom three. Just you watch. (God, this hurts me, because I'm a mighty, mighty Raptor's fan, but I wish them well, and I genuinely believe that this will happen!)
On paper we look doomed, but we have replaced key positions with younger and more athletic talent. I think if we get another creative player in, give the team some time to gel, we will actually be fine.
Coventry fan here. They bought Hamer 15m. Hes amazing! Hes the egdar Davids, you will love him. I think you might surprise a few people this season. Good luck
Sounds like the only blades moving with a purpose are the green ones. Not a good omen for returning to the Premiere, and then to get shutout today by Palace. Good luck Blades supporters.
It's a shame you don't know the premier League loan rules. The limit of 2 loans at any one time that you talk about at 15:14 is only on domestic loans, so Larouci won't count towards that limit. Also when you mention getting both Doyle and McAtee back on loan at 14:45, they couldn't do that either, as there is a limit of 1 loan player from a single club.
Both Sheffield clubs have been ran into the dirt, both were original prem teams too. A massive city with badly run teams but amazing supporters with great history.
Must praise your direct style in this video, Alfie Youre always was accurate and informative, but most of the time i drop yours video on the middle, cause of slow pace approach(gigantic intros, some back to past stuff, etc) Really like this one
A very interesting idea of a video is teams that are far away fro their league like las plasmas that are in spanish league despite being closer to Morocco or Madeira that are far away from Portugal Santa Clara too
24 hours is a long time in football. We’ve gone from being negative to being absolutely positive with Hamer and Doyle links. Roll on proving the doubters wrong!
They managed to get promoted to the EPL, but know they have no way of making your promotion stick... so just roll with it. Accept that you don't stand a chance of avoiding relegation and collect those EPL payments to help you build up a more stable team and organization from 2025/2026 season onwards. Don't think they have any other choice.
Berge being sold to a relegation rival is the best business ever. If I knew about, I would have offered to drive him down myself. Great player on his day, but for the other 7 out of the 8 games he's a total passenger and a waste of space. He goes missing, doesn't track back, can't tackle, for someone who's 6'5" he can't head the ball either, has very low football IQ (makes wrong choices when in possesion). I could go on, but watch him have that 1 good game against us. The only other thing I would say that you forgot to mention is that a lot of our current players are also on the wrong side of 30. It makes no sense for us to tie them down to long term contracts. Fleck being perfect example, 3 years ago he was integral to us. Now you can bet your house on us losing everytime he plays. We need to re-evaluate these players at the end of the season, if it means we lose them, i don't think it would be a massive loss.
The reason for the turmoil is the old owner had agreed a deal to sell so he basically lost interest in the club and temporarily stopped funding it and paying bills. It wasn't a case of not being able to afford to pay the bills, it was more about refusing to pay, so admin was never a serious proposition. The logic was....the new owner can decide which players need new contracts etc, so all projects were put on hold. The takeover took 4 months, until eventually it was rejected, so the old owner started funding the club again and he's taking a semi interest again. In a recent interview in July23 he said there are 2 parties showing serious interest and he may end up staying on with a 20% owership share.
As a Sheffield United fan it's tough to see all this. I think defense is the strongest group of players we have. Ahmedhodžić, Trusty, Basham and Egan will rotate as starters in a back three. I think Max Lowe will do just fine, and Bogle will do fine once he's back. We also have some depth in defense with Jack Robinson, Larouci, Baldock and Norrington-Davies (sill injured?). I think if we can swing it, we should sign another young central defender. I think the midfield is very weak. With injuries to Fleck (serious), Norwood (questionable), and Coulibaly (doubtful) I think the midfield is a wash. Yes, we signed Vinicius and Ben Silmane, but they aren't proven in real high level play. Sure the fees are fair, but I'm not sure they're enough. I guess we have arblaster who's a decent young player and Ben Osborn who can play in the midfiled and wingback. I think we really need a quality signing in midfield, maybe two. I think the attack is also quite weak. We have Brewster (questionable) and McBurnie (questionable), who I think will start most games if healthy. I'm excited to see Jebbison once he's healthy and even Osula. We're linked with Akpom who would play more of that Ndaiye role, but Sheffield isn't willing to meet a 10 million asking price. I think Akpom is well worth that. Hopefully we can sign a couple decent players before the window closes.
The timing of losing Ndiaye & Berge couldn't have been any worse. However, people need to understand, both players were in the final year of their contracts and were unwilling to sign new deals. That meant that we could potentially lose them for nothing at the end of the season and have no money to reinvest in replacements. Selling them now protects the club, as it allows us to bring in players who are capable of bringing us back up should we get relegated. I know the situation isn't great, but it's no way near as bad as some are making it out to be. The owners have said all the money from the sales would be available for transfers so it's important to hold judgement until we've done the rest of our business. Hamer, Akpom, Archer, Doyle, McAtee, Palmer, O'Brien have all been linked the past few weeks so let's see what happens.
I'm Newcastle till I die! But live in Sheffield for 18yrs. Love the City but sad to see the size of the fan base for both football clubs and yet still struggling despite promotion to PL. I hope they get a new owner that sees the potential of the club! But saying that I'd take 6 points off them is season when they play Newcastle 😂
Blade here, the owner wants to sell the club so he will really have no incentive to invest money. He spent a fair bit a couple of years ago but it wasn’t a success. I can see him thinking to recoup losses and the team must just try and survive. If we do I expect he would spend next year, but right now we are seriously going to have a monumental struggle and your video is totally on the money. Being Blades we are used to struggling though. The finances of the club do need to be taken care of and gambling lots of money to try and stay up often fails.
I think for more than a few of them, they need one season of PL money to try and get the books balanced. It looks like Sheffield United are being honest about that, but if they are, maybe they aren't communicating it well enough with the fans. If instead of spending £30m on a player it is used to get the training and youth facilities up to the very top level, maybe in a few seasons time they aren't looking in to the loan market, but are instead building a team around a core of local talent and making a lot of money when they do sell them on. I think teams that rely upon great scouting for example tend to hit a wall as other teams adopt their methods and they lose their advantage. As good as Brighton look at this point in time, I'll be far from shocked if they fade over the next few seasons and get relegated
@@neilbiggs1353 Maybe, but don't underestimate the awesome power of algorithmic analysis to sift through international talent for the most suitable players. It seems undeniable that developing this facility will become critically important to clubs at every level of the professional game.

Sheffield along with Wolverhampton are strong candidates for Relegation. For other one, many people says Luton. But for real, i really want Luton to survive.
That's what happens when club's stature doesn't follow the progress managers achieve on the pitch. Chris Wilder has done amazing job, but club's hierarchy failed to capitalize on his tactical innovation. Wilder introduced wide, overleaping central defenders to the game and it took 2 seasons for the other teams to find a way to deal with his tactics. All the big clubs in England are playing with the wide defenders today and Blunts failed to capitalize on their own invention. If there were no parachute money they would sit the bottom of the Championship with their rivals Wednesday.
Loosing illy is heartbreaking but berge i dont really care he went missing to much. Im just glad this promotion money saved our club from real trouble. We need to invest for the future.

As someone had already said, Luton were buying as if they barely survived in the Championship, Sheffield were selling as if they just got relegated to League One, and Burnley basically looked at the team that got them promoted and decided "we don't need any of that", then placed all their survival hopes on a bunch of children
@@zosiazaremba7479 that’s a good way of putting it mate. If I’m honest this season had made me feel more disconnected from the club then ever before had my season ticket 17 years, got a blades tattoo but I’ve only just realised the championship is the place to be. The prem is impossible to compete in unless you spend 60m+ and I guarantee we won’t be the last team to get torn apart and have a dire season like this the way it’s going. I’m just happy we got past Derbys 11 points total even tho the goals conceded is shocking lol.

I hope you'll find a way to connect with your team once again. And yeah, you're not the first and definitely won't be the last
As a Sky Blue, I'd say Sheffield United are far from screwed now they have Gustavo Hamer.
We are going to have a hard season but everyone thinks we are dead certs so we have no expectations on us
First comment that I've seen out of hundreds with actual sense of the club UTB
Tbf we play better when people expect us to flop. Just look at 19/20
Bro trust me Vini Souza is a baller. And while I didn't watch Trusty while he was away from Arsenal, his stats were pretty good. Either you have a horrible season or you do what Bournemouth done last season

You didn't have any pressure to begin with tbh
Saw them in a friendly against my favourite club, VfB Stuttgart, last weekend.
Doesn't look bright, but I will be rooting for them as underdogs.
Didn't Van Hooijdonk go on strike until Ron Atkinson sold him?
As a Sheffield United fan, I think if Heckingbottom keeps us above 20th he should get the keys to the city.
The only positive is that one of our key strengths last season was not conceding goals (even against Spurs in the FA Cup). If our defense remains tough to crack we have a shot at getting a lot of home draws

So what happened
As a Burnley fan i'm not sure why we went for Berg over Hamer.
Austin Trusty, that's a name that fills one with confidence.

Sheffield United are screwed is an understatement. Lost most of the key players, lack of funds to replace players and stuck with the dross. They could smash Derby's record for the worst Premier League team ever.
I like sheff u, proper club with a passionate fan base. Hope they can get some replacements in and stay up…as well as us of course
@@sheffsteel7 He played against City. But we don't count that game because City always bitch slap us.
£15m for Lewis o’brien🤣🤣🤣
Pull them off and it's still a disaster.

You can’t defend only having 10m to spend if you kept two of your best players when your in the premier league
@@Secret19977 the media makes Berge to be our best player, he wasn’t. Never looked arsed and takes 3 seconds to realise he has the ball

The blades nearly got European football in there return In the premier league
That's when they keep their squad together. This team is greatly reduced.
Iliman and Berge refused continually to sign new contracts so basically we have cashed in with the plan to re invest in younger players

For goodness sake let the season begin for Sheffield united with out criticism beginning.
All correct apart from weve used 1 loan spot out of 2. Can only have 2 domestic loans but can have up to 5 loan players in a match day squad
Sheffield, and Wolves might legitimately give Luton a chance at surviving
Especially if Forest gets second season syndrome in an extreme way
The team that spends the most is not always the one that succeeds.
In Châteauroux (France) we unfortunatly know this sad chairman good luck to you sheffield
Blackpool we're supposed to have gone down on a single point tally!
Good luck Blades
The reason for the turmoil is the old owner had agreed a deal to sell so he basically lost interest in the club and temporarily stopped funding it and paying bills. It wasn't a case of not being able to afford to pay the bills, it was more about refusing to pay, so admin was never a serious proposition. The logic was....the new owner can decide which players need new contracts etc, so all projects were put on hold. The takeover took 4 months, until eventually it was rejected, so the old owner started funding the club again and he's taking a semi interest again. In a recent interview in July23 he said there are 2 parties showing serious interest and he may end up staying on with a 20% owership share.
sufc fan here, spot on the whole video, wish us luck this year...
Conceding 104 goals is astonishing. -69 GD too. Not nice, lmaooo

I think that Derby County 07/08 record is in danger. And imagine they do well LMAO
Surprised more of the smaller promoted clubs just don't take the money and run. Seems sensible to me, under the circumstances.

Personally, I don't think Sheffield FC will be relegated from the Northern Premier League Division One East
