  • Replacing the positive battery cable on my 2007 Chevy Avalanche due to an intermittent no start, no crank problem. Should be the same procedure on most 2007-2013 GM full size trucks and SUVs such as Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Yukon XL, Avalanche, and Escalade.

Thanks for the video, had the same problem in my 2007 Sierra. I was able to replace the cable with your help. I did find, however, that removing the wheel well shroud (or liner or whatever) made things go A LOT smoother, & wasn’t too difficult. Thanks again!

Yep same issue. Thanks general motors. Feel like it should be a recall for the amount of people having the same issues. I'm sure anyone who's watching this has also put a headlight bulb in these gems. Disassemble half the front clip for a bulb. Stupidity at its finest. Thank you for you time and video.

Thank you so much for posting this. I had the same issue with my 2007 Escalade, which is the same configuration. Unfortunately, I had to get the cable at full price, but was still worth it. The only problem that I had was that while attempting to put the nut back on the starter, I dropped it and it went into the auto repair blackhole, where all the dropped bolts and 10 mm sockets go, never to bee seen again. But, once I was done, all the issues went away. Again, you helped me out tremendously!

    Tips:
Replace both the negative and the posative wire, the other will go bad soon. The replacemwnt ground also usually comes with the round voltage sensor on it, which is a $67 part alone, yet it cones with the negative cable for $60
I added heat shrink to all the ends, the old one was pretty pulled out so you want to prevent that from happening again.
Replace the ground strap over by the stearing fluid resivour. GM upgraded the ground strap from this tiny one to part# 20776808 its now extra beefy, removes the whine from the stereo too.
You dont need ti take the wheel off just go over it or turn the wheel to ine side.
If you run any additional wires in your engine bay run them iff the battery tow connections on the fuse box, they are already fused which is nice. I installed a small fused bus bar to the right connection on the stock 175 fuse, looks better than having wires all over the battery terminals.

Hi, just watched your video. Thanks so much. I need to replace my positive and negative cable on my 04 Escalade. Same setup, Vortec motor, 6.0 Debating on sending to a shop to do, until I found this. I think that between my son & I we can do it now!!

This must be a design flaw. I have the exact problem with my 2007 Chev. Silverado 1500. I get out, pop the hood, shake the positive cables at the battery and I'm good for another 15-20 starts. Thanks for the informative video. Should be a GM recall. (Fat Chance though) GM, Get (YO) Money for sure!!

I went ahead and took the wheel well cover out. Few extra minutes but nice to have out of the way. One issue I had was when I installed the new battery cable, the starter started spinning with no key in the ignition. I didn’t touch any ground and everything was hooked up correctly.
I took off the new connection on the starter and chopped off about half of the little bent piece of metal that points straight to the next terminal. It was touching the washer on the next terminal. I know my grounds are good so it had to be something with the new cable

Thanks for the demonstration 👍 I have a question and someone might've had the same issue, as I'm going thru some electrical issues .Has anyone on here ever have an issue w/ door lock actuators intermittently lo k/unlocking while driving. Looks like original +/-cabkes,so I'm changing those, but seems like it could be ignition switch too. The tumbler sticks and you've gotta wiggle it til it engages/turns.
Also wondering if anyone also changed the pos.cable that goes from the 175a fuseblock /fuse/along the pass /side of firewall over to the fuse relay box on driver side. I bought all the ,pos /neg. cables from Amazon. All GM parts, good quality.

Been having a similar intermittent issue with my 08 Tahoe. Same engine setup. I replaced my ground cable and still same issue. So I'm guessing I need to change my positive cable. Also, i believe this issue has caused my reverse lights and radio to not work.

Great video. You should have glopped on some liquid electric tape on those bare spots near the crimp. Well I would have anyway. I'm doing both cables on my 2003 Chevy Crap vehicle.

If a fuse goes bad, surely you wouldn't have intermittent issues. Didnt think a fuse was something that could be intermittently bad. Fuse is either toast or it's not i would think

By any chance did you change you negative cable?

    • @ladub628
      @ladub628  5 років тому

No I didn't change the negative because I traced my problem to the positive cable. That being said, there have been reports of problems with the negative cable. The problem is not necessarily with the cable itself but with the connection between the cable and terminal. I could wiggle the positive cable and the truck would start up just fine. I've heard it's the same problem with the negative cable.
