How To Power Snatch w/ Zack Telander
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 сер 2024
- In this video, Zack Telander teaches Alan Thrall how to power snatch. The power snatch might be easier to coach and learn than the power clean. It is an underrated movement that can be added to any routine.

Love how Alan listens and learns patiently without interrupting, letting Zack’s instruction take center stage the whole time. No ego, always learning more!
Totally. He's such a cool dude. Ok, both of them are. Props.
ego? he's a human meatbag just like everyone else, myself included.
Lol "movement laboratory" "functional training center" I've never thought of it like that.
Erick Heera *cough cough* Lord Cameron Krug aka BreaktheBox fitnes
How dare you mock
our lord Dr. Seedman. I have been doing eccentric focused bamboo kettlebell half half squats and my knees regrew after they exploded doing a set of "normal" squats.
That seed guy is having too much frufru lol
half half squats lmao
Thankyou! Finally someone who has read the artical!
Bro those results are sick!
Eccentric? Pff. I only do eccentric isometrics.
so glad your building a relation with zack, his a good guy, ive watched him many times. Once in his video he forgot his shoes to the gym(basement/garage) and made a PR with flipflops, thats when i realised this dude is spartan af
You guys ripped that guy into pieces. Love it.
I am constantly amazed by how explosive weightlifters are.
It's hella jumping
Watch Arley Mendez if you want to see some explosions
It's the knees for sure
Clarence0 sounds like a cannon when he does power clean.
Yep. That’s why they have a great vertical leap.
Zach's "functional coach" imitation here was DEAD ON lol, I urge him to explore this more - perhaps consider a dedicated channel for that purpose. Beautiful work...
I would 100% watch a full channel of zack playing this kind of reverse dom mazzetti movement scientist
Finally somebody calls out Joel seedman on his bs
Barbell medicine did that too tho on Instagram
I had never heard of this guy 😂
There's so many of these "functional gurus" coming out. Naudi Aguilar is another nutjob preaching bullshit.
I died at “my first name is doctor”
"If you're squatting below parallel, you're just wrong".
Lmfaooo the intro skit is perfect
Zack really has some acting skills!
ironic he’s now an actor in The Weight
my favorite youtoob celery, zack telomere
Great vid, super informative and perfect intro! Cliff notes if you like written stuff:
1) muscle snatch(strict, lead w elbows)
2) same as last but catch at top
3) hips back, pin bar, find toes, go
4) contact drill (set same as last, let bar come out, snap w arms and pull up and not in, let bar rattle, as you progress get into flow)
5) contact high pull>contact snatch>low(below knee)contact snatch
6)touch n go reps(top down, helps not yank)
7) eccentric reps(slowww down, grab bar, go, hips above knees, shoulders above hips, shoulders covering bar)
Back and forth thru progression until 👌
I wasn't interested in weightlifting style exercises but this video makes me wanna test it
DO IT!
NO regrets
@@afb9176 yeah I'm definitely gonna try it
Be patient with yourself. Flexibility for the full movements is imperative. Find a coach. It really does make the difference.
It's hard. That's why most people quit and even the people who keep it up they don't do it right without a good coach.
Hey Alan, great collab! I definitely recommend you and Juji collab; it would be amazing.
Matthew Cuevas amen
And having them all teach me how to train!
I think juji and tom just quit yt
@@l.p.7585 no they have just taken a break.
As a college basketball and football player the power snatch, power clean, with atg squats and deadlifts were essential to my growth as an athlete I believe. As my lifts grew in these I performed better
Wow. You weren't exaggerating that much with dr seedman. Saw his Twitter and boy were you accurate.
He's still going. Doing circus acts lol
Lol at the intro and the Clarence Kennedy callout. Also just wanted to point out how good of a student you are, I see a lot of people host others on youtube but they won't stop talking over them. Respect
Squating is so natural to human that if you for example try to plant seeds you body automatically will squat to lowest point for practical reasons,i have never seen my dad plant seeds while being above parallel cause it's not practical.
perfect balance in life bending down without squatting just hurts your back. you're right that our anatomy makes it necessary that we squat down
@@sereysothe.a it doesn't hurt your back
@@ivan0799 if you try to lift in that position it will
@@dajax1996 wrong
That's what stiff legged deadlifts are dude
I want to see the bloopers from the beginning of the video because there is no way "functional training center" didnt make you guys laugh. Also, the way you were able to take instruction and apply it, even after being as strong as you are and having experience with the snatch is incredible. Also the Kennedy callout lololo I love it
Zack you have a depth of perspective and sarcasm that resonates! Well done calling out the poseurs. Anything to avoid heavy weights seems to be the order of the day, as well as avoiding full range of motion. Let’s replace a complex movement with an even more complicated circus trick! Always look forward to you videos. And totally agree that Mr Thrall shows his character in his respect and attention to instruction - he takes as well as he gives (in previous post where he trains Zack in strongman movements
And im just here, laughing my arse off and hopin for the 'behind the scenes' compilation how they come up with these skits
Dude I literally have been pondering this question since yesterday. Thank you. I’ve recently been adding these to my programming and they’ve helped with my power clean a ton, I find the PS easier to learn than the PC. This video answered all my questions about it.
Such a good explanation. You can easily go back and forth with this video to master the movement. Train-on-time. Hehe
Train untamed*
Finally someone adressin this stuff with joelseed, sayin that kind of things get ppl injured and scared
I found this video so helpful when I was getting started, Zack taught me a lot! And I continue to learn a lot from his channel
That opening bit was absolutely hilarious, every second of it.
This was a great tutorial Zack. You two working together=great content. Loved the intro too!
You literally crushed that esoteric natural dancing crosffit guru 😂
Love a coach who has humor and is also extremely well-versed at teaching movements. A+ content
I learned to clean wrong and to snatch right. I've gotten along with the power and squat snatch a lot more than any clean I've done. I don't enjoy the clean, but I'm falling in love with the snatch
"I'm doctor zack"
"Dr. of what?"
"Oh no, my first name is doctor."
Fucking ded
God damn zack is top tier fitness content memelord
Love this series, awesome colab! Jujimufu next?
Thanks to both of you, I was afraid to try power snatch because it looked so hard so I did only power C+J but now when I tried these drills I found out its actually not that hard!
12:20 such a delightful sound!
LoL I am completely stealing this "movement laboratory" thing and spreading it throughout every gym.
Loved the skit and collaboration between you guys. 🙌
love zach! great dude whose able to explain complex movements in simple language.
Hey Alan! Love your videos. just a quick suggestion regarding coaching and how to videos. I personally think it would be a lot more beneficial to see someone like Zach teaching a more beginner/intermediate lifter rather than yourself, as you're noticeably more experienced and are able to get into positions much easier.
I cannot thank you enough for all the information i got from this channel i learn how to squat ,deadlift (not perfect but enough to start and progress) and now i wanna move barbell faster .
Great stuff, totally agree about power snatch vs power clean. Power cleans might be easier to learn, but power snatches are just so much more enjoyable to me.
Please get back into weightlifting! Also the intro was hilarious. Functional patterns dogma is so irritating.
One of the few channels I’ll sit through ads for 🤘
This progression is great !!¡ I am just a begginer and it 's been really helpful . Could you make another one on the clean ? Zack and you are very good together
Being so coachable is a mark of a true master. Always a student of their craft. Would love to train with these guys. It'd be worth the trip to Sac. lol
These two are a match made in heaven for being strong, informative and funny af
One of the best vids I've watched on snatching 👏🏽👏🏽👑
Wow my two favourite together alan and zack
Great collab, loved it! Two super knowledgeable dudes and both funny AF.
It's 2019 and I can't believe people are still using current year as an argument
That was a four and half minute long skit to start the video and it was actually good
That’s some really good acting at the beginning 😂😂
3:40
"These numbers keep changing, like, everytime you mention these articles..." LOL!
i can't believe instagram took down the skit LMAOOOOO
joel is big mad
Great content, please can you get a clean progression video together. Awsome work
this video is so perfect it almost hurts
Wow shoulda called this video the Power Snatch Master class with Weightlifting Guru!
I love the intro time after time and still think you both are great actors
This is a great example of how people of the left or left based try to argue with the right or right based all the way to 3:45, very accurate. But I've been doing a lot more Snatches and Cleans and that has made me more explosive on Squats, Deadlifts and Push Press.
The fuckin' seedman callout I'm dying.
Really loved it. One of my all time favourite video. It’s so informative and entertaining! 💪🙏👍😃
lmfao the intro was one of the funniest things ive seen in a while
This is one of my favorite videos ever. Thank you.
Zack is a great actor.
Yes, I will train on time, coach!
Thanks for putting this kinda stuff up. I drive a truck so my "functional movement facility" is limited to a barbell and some bands. Although I may add an amazon mobile squat rack... Aka blunt guillotine. Just gotta figure out how to modify it so I don't die.
After 5 years of sitting for 14hrs a day it's caught up. And I'm pushing 40 years old. So... Again thanks for this type of content. I'm 2 months into eating food I make (harder than you might think on a truck) 1 month into lifting and one month into TRT. I feel like a completely different person.
"Oh no, my first name is doctor"
A Colab between my two favourite weight training channels, yayy!
Oh yeah! This is the collab I wouldn't even dare dream about!
You gotta do a 1-ton challenge though, Alan.
One of the best instructional videos out there. Wow
I really wanted that video on incorporating assistance movements though :(
I could really use it.
17:26 Familiar buzzsaw sounds... Great video, really like Zack's coaching
intro is gold!
That squat demonstration was gold man!!
This is actually super helpful, thank you! Great collab!
Zack is going to have many gifs made on him
OMG! What is happening at 4:30? :D The shade never ceases to amuse me! Always gets me laughing and pumped for my training session!
This is a fantastic video, great coach and student. I have been doing the typical powerlifting movements for over a year now and I am finding myself massively interested in weightlifting. It is quite a bit more technical and without a coach I've been struggling to get the confidence/know how to give it a shot. I shall be practicing the power snatch at the gym tomorrow!
Great collab, two of my favorite guys.
I started doing Power Snatch because it looks more badass
I actually love this movement, due to my right ankle restrictions this is how I have been doing this movement for a while!
👌 can't believe I haven't seen this yet. Big fan
Awesome episode on so many levels!
you killed it Alan !!!! Zach, great teacher
Thank you for this video! This step by step explanation was awesome. Greetings from Greece
😂😂 Alan that intro had me losing my shit, Gold
_Where you at, Clarence Kennedy_
Great tutorial - I'm moving towards more power based moves in program so perfect timing! Love the collab intros XD
the two best actors in the strength/fitness youtube
Ha ha .. i got a right kick out of that Intro.. bravo guys!
Two of my faves working together
damn i didnt think alan would care about going shirtless in his gym
The skit was so good, i had to double check if i hated the guy or the dude he was imitating.. after a google of the instagram post.. definitely oscar worthy.
I've always liked power snatches, but haven't been programming it in much lately due to my current gym lacking bumper plates. Anyway, the point of contact had been inconsistent for me and just the other day I was working in some one arm barbell snatches and it just aligned perfectly for me as I shifted away from the mindset of shooting my hips forward and focused more on accelerating upwards through triple extension, which naturally brings the bar in contact with the hip when the timing is right. I haven't been back to see how this translate to the regular two-handed variant, but over the years has noticed when it felt right and when I was simply brute strengthing it up. Think my hand position my be hindering me as the bar may not be at the right height during my second pull, but that's something I'll have to work on next time I hit the gym.
This was great. I learned a lot and I might start doing this rather than deadlifts for a few cycles.
I like the transition in the beginning
Dude, this was awesome! And damn, the first part was so funny. YES.
