📜 VIDEO DETAILS 📜
I recently stumbled across two Twitter threads where Mr. Beast (aka Jimmy Donaldson) gave valuable Thumbnail and Title advice for UA-cam. This advice was given to Yes Theory and Colin & Samir. If these two channels got value from these tips, I thought all creators would enjoy them. Both twitter threads are linked in the description above. In particular Yes Theory, used Mr. Beast's advice on a video that has been viewed 2.8 million times at the time of this video and also made it as high as 14 on the UA-cam trending page.
Tip number 1 that I gathered from these threads is to not waste any space in your thumbnails. The thumbnails are essentially a billboard for your video so every little bit of real estate on the thumbnail is valuable.
Tip number 2 is to make sure you don't have any distracting backgrounds in your thumbnail. You want the focus of the thumbnail to pop off the image and if the background is too busy then it can distract from the impact.
Tip number 3 goes along with tip 2, in that all of the interesting stuff in the thumbnail should be the focus. The focus of your thumbnail should be exactly what you are trying to show and should take up most of the space on the thumbnail.
Tip number 4 is to use people's faces (your's or someone else's) on your thumbnail. Humans are naturally attracted to seeing other humans faces so as someone is scrolling down their UA-cam home screen they are more likely to look at thumbnails with faces on them.
Tip number 5 is to maintain some level of brand consistency between your different thumbnails. If you're thumbnails have a unique style or have something recognizable then people are more likely to click on your video if they have seen a similar thumbnail from you before.
Tip number 6 is to make titles personal. The more personal the title, the more attracting it is to the viewer. People like to see someone go through something so using "I" in your title can make it more powerful.
Tip number 7 is to make the title intriguing. Once again the title and thumbnail are your one chance to get someone to click on your video so you want to make it as intriguing as possible. Use intriguing words like abandoned or shocking to make viewers more curious.
The last tip (#8) is to keep titles below 50 characters. Fifty characters is the maximum number of characters that will be shown on UA-cam's home page on a mobile device. As most people watch UA-cam on their mobile device, it is important to keep this character limit in mind.

UA-cam tips:
Thumbnails
- don’t waste space
- blur the background, don’t make it distracting. Have a focus (face, prop, title)
- keep the interesting stuff at the forefront of the thumbnail (focus on it)
- maintain brand consistency
- your face is enough for brand recognition (don’t always need logo)
- use your face or someone’s face because people are naturally drawn to faces (make it big! & don’t waste space)
Titles:
- “I explored” instead of “Exploring” makes it more personal & believable. Adding face makes it personal and have them want to join you!
- make your titles intriguing (ex. “Abandoned” rather than “forgotten”)
- avoid dead space, stay on brand, keep your titles/thumbnails consistent
- use under 50 characters (to show up on mobile) & make it intriguing
I have a title that is 50 characters exactly
Does it need to be under or can exactly 50 show on mobile?
thank you bro

literally the best video on thumbnails ever
Thank you! Glad to hear you found it helpful :)
@@BradenLimb make part 2 and explain what and how other creators are doing unique for thumbnails and title add arrek, rayen, etc.
Still the best thumbnail training on youtube!
If you're open, I have 2 opinions on your thumbnails if you want to listen. I'm just looking at your 2 most recent ones upon the time of writing this comment.
For the sober one, get an empty bottle of beer or alcohol and juxaposition a large image of yourself pushing it away, and then state the time frame with big texts.
For the not caring, maybe lay yourself on a bean bag or a comfy chair, with your head back and your legs up high. Bigger text and an arrow.
Hope it helps
Thanks for this! 🦊

Solid video my friend :)
Thanks! Hopefully it helped!
THIS VIDEO GIVES ME CHILLS! This one should blow up, great analysis and summary.
We will definitely make a checklist for this and apply them to all our videos moving forward!
Thank you Branden! Love from Philippines 🇵🇭
This is an amazing video - packed full with some of the most helpful thumbnail info I've seen! Thank you for creating it :)
Thank you so much for making this! Really appreciate your effort😁
Thank you for putting in effort to gather and share these 8 practical gems! It feels like you’ve given me special goggles that allow me to see the winning pattern for YT titles and pics. 🙏🏾
Man that’s is value bell stuff, thanks, just watched the half of the video and already improved my thumbnail for the upcoming video a lot, nice
OMG man, this is the BEST thumbnails video I have ever seen and I have watched at least 100 videos about thumbnails by Nick Nimin, Roberto Black, Think Media, Bryan Johnson and dozens of other 'thumbnail gurus'. THANK YOU so much for making this video! Kudos to your success matey!
I think the tips help, but I'm wondering how much of the boost to their views was from the public interaction with Mr Beast and Casey, rather than the tips. People would surely be curious to go and check the video, creating a snowball effect.
WOWZA this is one of the most informative videos I’ve watched all month (and I’ve watched a lot). Thanks!!
these are actually really in depth takes..great work
So packed with so much valuable information, thanks so much!! You derserve to have WAY more views!
(Maybe you can speed up the velocity of your video to 1.25x or just talk slightly faster? And get faster to the first point? Because I can imagine lots of people having the attentionspan of a goldfish and might leave the video before they get to the valuable advice. Just giving my honest subjective but constructive criticism because I want to help you! Wish you all the best!)
Thanks for the compliment and constructive criticism! You’re right, people totally have the attention span of a goldfish these days 😂 I’ll definitely try to speed up my delivery in the future 😃
Braden, you did a great job on this. Thanks for the time you spent on your research for us!
This is a solid video and deserves far more views than it has. This is exactly the type of content I sub to, and I clicked that Subscribe button. Keep up the good work!
That was actually super useful man - would love more videos where you go collect information that is super useful and straight from the source but isn't actually indexed by search engines
I'm glad to hear it was useful for you! That sounds like a great idea for videos, the problem might be finding the topics haha. Do you have any ideas?
@@BradenLimb I'd probably just keep targeting content creators and people interested in social media growth. If you're able to find info from the primary sources (like MrBeast), I think it'd be very valuable content that just needs to be marketed right :)
Awesome video and tips! I went ahead and made some changes to one of my videos, both thumbnail and title, to see if this will help me improve its performance. Once again, amazing video, enjoyed it a lot. Thanks so much!
Then I saw Matt d'avella's "A Day In The Life Of A Minimalist" thumbnail with no close up face, no text in the thumbnail, mostly empty space and I understood that this is just a POV, not a rule to go viral. But yes this is are good Tips for thumbanils deppending on the theme you are talking about and the target of the audience.
Thank you so very much for this detailed video. This is my second time watching it. The best and the most descriptive video on this topic I have listened to so far. THANK YOU!!
You said "who would do this, except mister beast" is why it on brand. A brand is not just visual identifiers. It's also the emotional and relatable identifiers.
Very nice recap, i already saw this different advice from mr beast, but you explain them well and you reminded me of everything important in one video
Very helpful and lots of actionable points, so thanks. Might I suggest you also try editing out some of the repetition and spaces in this video in the UA-cam editor? That's a tip I got elsewhere and it was very helpful and worked for my engagement. I think this video would also be more impactful with a tighter edit as it's great content. Cheers👍👍
Thank you for making this video!
Collected how would they do for thumbnails and also made them into easily absorbable information!
I would never know Mr Beast and Casey had done these if you didn't make this video!
Hmmmm… this is amazing service to the community. Thank you so much!!!
This was the best video on CTR I've seen so far, thank you so much for sharing!
Loved how you went into details, thanks! :)
Good tips man. It's good when you find new things than re learning things you know. You also gave us the right information with evidence. keep it up. wish u all the best.
This might be one of the best thumbnail vids I have seen
Great video. I liked the advice about putting "I did _blah blah blah__" in your title. If you use "I", it becomes more personal and thus more attractive. That's cool and I think I'll use that.
This video definitely upped my thumbnail game!
This is decent and comprehensive advice on thumbnails and titles. Well done
Great tips and breakdown of the value of those Tweet interactions. I took notes📝
One of the best thumbnail videos I've seen, keep it that way!
On the face thing, don’t forget you can do some tricks simply with photo editing. If you think your face is too small though? Just copy the photo but on the second one, cut out everything but your face. Then you can make your face bigger and reposition it. I have done that with a thumbnail and it ended up looking really cool. Because that way I could completely blur the background and add an outline to me and nobody knew it was actually both from the same picture
Very helpful! I’m definitely going to revise all of my thumbnails to focus on these points! Thank you for sharing the knowledge Braden!
Me too!! Watching it a second time. I did this to just one of my videos and saw a but in views. The best video so far on title's and thumbnails!
@@Sydney584 that’s great to hear! Hope it’s going well!!
@@JoshKorzan Thank you!! I hope it all goes well for you also 👍
One of the most valuable video I ever saw on titles and thumbnails, keep up the work mate🙌🏻🙌🏻
Underrated video, good job Braden
I know you 😉
@@ElonMusk-FanZone What?
I have an art channel and I think some things may differ when it comes to videos about producing actual artwork. People aren't so interested in seeing faces then. When I was looking for tutorials on how to paint/draw certain stuff, it was the thumbnails that showed artwork most like what i would like to produce that grabbed me and what I ended up clicking on. This was by far the biggest make or break for me at least. Having a hand included holding a brush or pencil as if working on the art also seems to help. After making some rubbish thumbnails in my attempt to try too hard, I think I'll go to just image of the artwork and my hand included maybe with brush or pencil and leave the title to do the rest.
Great video! If I can make a suggestion, consider having some light instrumental music playing in the background of your videos. The gate you're using clamps down really fast and it's a little distracting having your voice drop out so obviously. Some soft music will smooth it out a bit. Solid thumbnail information tho, I'm using ALL OF IT.
Thanks for the tip Anndy! I'll try out using some light music in the background. Glad to hear the thumbnail info helped you!
Amazing thanks so much for breaking it down, will be using this to make my thumbnail for my next video
Very helpful! Honestly, I think if you front-loaded the video with the screenshot at about 15:05 as the opener, it would have been an even more effective video. Or maybe front load the list with 6 or 7 and teased the last one or two. That’s definitely a mr beast play.
This is the best information I have ever gotten on thumbnails. Thank you.
This is gold right here. After seeing this I definitely need to update my thumbnails. Thanks for the advice
Great advice that isn't repeated through all other videos. Nice work.
Awesome video dude, is it okay if I link to it in another video as a reference?
This is really good information! Thanks! Just some feedback, maybe you could put more energy in the video and condense it a bit. Also some background music perhaps? It was easy to lose focus during the video and I was really trying to pay attention. Hope this helps!
Great video man. Should I use photoshop to make thumbnails like that?
Great tips. But today he seem to use even shorter titles:
”I Broke Into A House”
(No ”$50 000” anymore)
”Protect $500 000 Keep it!”
”7 Days Stranded At Sea”
”Train Vs. Giant Pit”
Etc.
You put a ton of effort into this and it shows - such as valuable summary - thank you! :)
Thanks for taking the time to share this information with us...💯
This is a very valuable video. I will watch it once in a while to refresh my memory.
Thanks for making this Braden!
These are really awesome lessons. Thanks!
Super helpful! I am ok at making thumbnails I like the look of, but not great at making ones that make people REALLY want to click! These were helpful tips!
Good work man thanks for putting this out there for everyone
Wow this video was very helpful and really made me understand what I should improve on my own channel as well. Thanks for the help!
I have 2 questions:
For titles: if there are 2 main people in the video the word "I" would not seem to pertain to a topic if it is some sort of debate. So should we say "we debate" in some fashion or "James/Mac doesn't like" in some fashion? I feel like if we put our name people will not click because people will not know who we are.
For the faces: We use cartoon faces in our videos. Should we be putting those on the thumbnail and not worry about it being a real human face? I figure the cartoon faces could be branding but I worry that since it is a cartoon that emotional connection will not be there.
I think number 7 could also be seen as newsworthy/storytelling.
Like in a newspaper, it will say, "man explored space mountain". It wouldn't say "exploring..." Apparently we're attracted to stories more.
How does this only have 10k views? Very helpful and concise
I’m 3 mins 12 into this video and I just want to tell you, yes, this is a very valuable video. Cheers 🍻
Excellent video, love the timestamps and explanations. I'll try some of these tips with my own channel.
Actually helpful advice, thanks for compiling all these threads into a video so I can actually retain all that info!👍🗿
this video is totally passing and surviving through the test of time. More I *really* learn how the game works, the *more* great this video gets!
furthermore its mind-blowing that it was made in 2020 🔥
pretty good bro!
One of the better videos out there. I'm glad I watched it.
Great info. Thanks. I smashed the like button and will watch more of your videos.
This really helped. Going to apply these tips on my channel. Thank you!
Loads of great tips to improve my channel interest/ uptake. Thanks
One of the most valuable on youtube about thumbnails.
Can't thank you much.
Glad it helped!
Nice summary, well done video
Thank you so much! I am going to apply all of your advices from now on!
UA-cam just recommend me this video. Most valuable video on Thumbnails
Great video, I watched the whole thing, and screnshoted the 8 tips 👍
Great video! Lots of smart people in the comments too. Anyone have any advice on how LOUD to make a video? I'd love to hear what y'all think!
I can see that "you put the extra effort in it"
Awesome video man! Super informative and well paced! Great job
Great tips here. The dead space + foregrounding things really piqued my interest as I was clearly still thinking more traditional media as I would have said those didn't have much dead space to begin with! But once I decouple the 4:3 focal points grid from film school out of my head, then, it's clear as day. 🤦
Love this video!! Packed with great info :D Subscribed
Love this Braden! Great job sir!
Solid video! I’ll be implementing this information in my next thumbnails. Thank you!
Ok now you might think I'm stalking you x))

No problem! Glad it was helpful!
Amazing analysis and takeaways! :)
Haven't even watched the whole video, but you've already proved this on your channel I can see.
