      Very true. While certain elements of these things may be adapted into regular society’s wear (like bows currently) most of these things are NOT the standard. Which is interesting compared to previous years. In the 2010s everyone in the general population had their chevron and colorful skinny jeans and weird scarves. Today the general sentiment is more, casual wear as everyday wear while on the internet these high detailed fashions live. Of course I see the occasional person wear something along these lines but more often than not, unless you’re in a city, these fashions don’t see the light of day for the average person

      I don’t agree. Where I live I can see little bits of popular trends in every day fashion. I love how the creator talks about how you may not wear a puffy shirt but you’ll have puffy sleeves or a frilly neckline. Like hardly anyone is doing a whole punk pirate outfit but you’ll be seeing pieces of this trend all over.

    I don’t think Whimsigoth will ever go out of style right now. Whimsigoth seems to be under the same umbrella for goth or edgy that punk pirate, e-girl, and emo sat at (not saying they’re the same at all). It’s the alt look. And I love it. I think darker renaissance inspired looks are going to have a resurgence in at least the first half of the 2020s.

    I think a big underpinning trend I'm noticing (and loving) is the shift away from heavy reliance on poly synthetic/ highly printed fabrics that we saw in the 2014-2021 period (think the highly saturated cow print, physcadelic prints, cherbub and clouds etc...) and towards natural fabrics as there is more growing consciousness around sustainability, combined with the "quiet luxury"/ "old money" trends. A lot of the trends you have here, i.e. gingham, puffy shirts are heavily reliant on cotton fabrication! I think the cotton, fur, silk of the Jane Birkin vibe is totally aligned with this too. Loooove it.

  • @AA-ju9sf
    @AA-ju9sf 5 місяців тому +52

    Please please if you want to participate in these trends, do not order from fast fashion brands. Pretty much all of these trends can be very easily found from thrift stores. The racks are full of flannels and cool jackets, and you can find a bunch of cheap shirts to distress for an edgy, unique look. Skull motifs can be added to clothes with embroidery, "cut and paste" -method or even painting with bleach. And this was already mentioned in the video, but buttons, pins, studs etc. can be found anywhere, if you know where to look: from thrift, in your grandma's cookie tin, even from old clothes. If an event is handing out free pins, I usually take a bunch and then paint them.
    Punk and grunge are anti-fashion subcultures. Diy and second-hand clothing is part of the culture. It is not punk to order a band shirt from shein and support child-labor.

      that's what I never understood about these "trends". The point of punk/alt fashion is to be "anti-fashion", "anti-capitalism" and "anti-consumerism", so while it's understandable to take inspo from these sorts of styles, these "trends" are going to be so far-removed from it's origin as most people apparently can't even do DIYs or thrift well (ie. they're bad at sewing and can't be bothered to learn, some thrift stores are expensive and/or don't sell certain pieces like vintage boots, victorian blouses, etc. they're more common than you think), and thus a lot of these origins will temporarily lose its meaning until someone tries to find a way around that.

      High disagree. Imo, rap will get heavier a la sigilkore, eventually mixing with the nu metal revival a la loathe, and the two genres will hybridize - judging by all the collabs bring me the horizon has going on, and whatever tf playboi carti and lil uzi vert are doing. Rock itself won't come back majorly unless surf rock explodes the way garage rock revival did in the early 2000s, but i don't see a current music hub birthplace like nyc or seattle was. Or a the strokes or the white stripes type band that's going to make it mainstream yet. Closest we got was Surf Curse. @@dw9524

      I also dislike it, mostly because they're kind of redundant (ie. "scenecore" or "bimbocore" as if scene and bimbo aren't already pre-existing styles/lifestyles?). They also feel uninspired/unoriginal(?) imo (in a sense that they just slap the suffix "-core" into a word instead of making a witty name for the style)

Military coats which almost every idol has worn in 2023 and a whole group doing pirate grunge concept for an album and mv and another who’s concept was being stranded on an island after a shipwreck with an amazing wardrobe of distressed pants and shirts. Both - Goth even more so than Punk - have become mere aesthetics with a cool music scene, so it would be best to not gatekeep and just enjoy whatever aspects of the style you like

    Victorian boots where not meant to cover the ankles but to protect you from the mud and slop of messy 19th century streets (lots of horse poop and human excreta). Evening wear (didn't have to worry about walking the streets) throughout the century were essentially slippers or flats, many with low heels, not too different in design than various styles of heels in the 20th and 21st century.
