I am not perfect environmentalist either, however I am doing my best here 😌. It is hard with so many influncers these days....H&M, Zara clothing being promoted everywhere. I try to follow minimalist and people that inspire me, like you Mimi 🥰. I mostly buy items from Cos, &other stories and always check the labels now. Thank you for making this video and spreading the news, well done for being an influencer with the right messages 😘
Cos and &other stories are also a part of H&M group but they’re more focused on offering a bit higher end image than H&M, more expensive items and better quality materials. I agree, it’s hard with so many influencers promoting fast fashion brands and every week there is a different “must have “. The major thing I have done, after quitting my job of 14 years at H&M, was to start buying only second hand. It’s been a year now, and I mostly buy from other people selling their clothes on line. You got amazing bargains even new or barely used items and even higher end brands. I don’t think I’m ever going back to old way of shopping at high street stores.
I love that you’re talking about this topic, people go shopping and they don’t even think about the environmental effects. We buy things we absolutely do not need. Thank you for helping to educate everyone. ☺️👍🏻
Thank you for sharing your journey with sustainable fashion, Mimi! It's so important to be amplifying the dangers and destruction of the fast fashion industry. I've been on my journey with sustainable and ethical fashion for the past 3 years or so and you definitely learn a lot once you actually pay attention to the intricacies of the industry and its impact on both people and the planet. To me, the most important thing besides the environmental destruction is the impact on people, specifically the garment workers. Knowing we support companies that do not pay their workers fair and living wages, exploit them and allow them to work in unethical and dangerous environments does not sit right with me. More than anything, the fast fashion industry does a great job at hiding the hidden cost (I highly recommend the True Cost documentary) of our clothing whilst also pushing consumerism at its core. Along those same lines, I truly believe the most sustainable thing we can do with our clothing is simply buy less and choose well and wear what we already own. Getting rid of old clothing to buy completely new sort of does the opposite in the sustainability front and it's so valuable to take a hard look and reflect on our relationship with clothing and consumerism. Thrifting is a brilliant way to curb fast fashion, but fast fashion habits can definitely trickle in with constantly buying and consuming without any conscious thinking. I blame capitalism and the billionaire companies whom convince us we're nothing without their 50 trends a year. Sustainability and ethical fashion is so nuanced and definitely takes a lot of conscious and critical thinking, so I'm glad you are having this conversation on your platform and many folks are learning and unlearning about their relationship with fashion!
Mimi, this was an excellent video. I agree with everything you said. I live in the US and I have noticed lately shopping takes a lot of time and research to find what works. Love to see a closet tour and how you maintain your clothes. Thanks.
I agree with all points and have been implementing the same steps over the last few years. I wish you discussed leather in the video (shoes and purses) as I know you have changed your mind on those as well.
Yay! So good to see you back on UA-cam! We've missed you. This was definitely an eyeopener. I'm already pretty conscious of what I buy since I don't have a lot to spend on clothes, but I'll definitely watch out for the polyester as best I can
Loved this video Mimi. I’ve recently stop buying from fast fashion and started thrifting, and couldn’t love it more. I often find really good quality natural fibers at the fraction of the original price, and they are so comfortable and flattering. We need more promotion on this.
I’m so glad you did this video. I have a book about sustainable fashion that I haven’t been able to read yet and it touches on most of what you explained. I would love to know more about building a wardrobe capsule and how to find my colors and style.
Lots of great ideas on clothes. I started with my makeup collection that was out of hand. I was just buying makeup because it was trendy. Now I have started looking for cleaner items and I don’t buy more make up until I have finished the one I purchased. I am starting on clothes and this information will be helpful and saving money and time. Thank you Mimi and so glad you are back to filming🌟💜
I’ve been doing the same, buying what I love, will use, and appreciate. I splurged recently on a cashmere sweater and it was the best decision. It’s warm, soft, and is wearing well. I got rid of the sweaters that were uncomfortable. Not to mention, that most people only wear 20% of their wardrobes, so why not pare down and have what you really love. Quality > quantity.
Loved this video! My mom always checks the tags! 😂 she’s super against bad fibers especially on babies. Also she’s such a good thrifter and finds super nice good condition clothes for much cheaper ☺️👍🏼
Yes, more videos like this! Capsule wardrobes, anything! I am trying to take my wardrobe seriously that is responsible for me and for the environment. It's hard, because I love fashion and variety but am really starting to value less is more and quality over quantity. Any tips that will help me know that I will get that cost per wear.
I am thinking about the BPA. It is usually available in high percentages in plastic, and if it could actually get absorbed into the blood stream and affect our hormones... This video is just...amazing! thought-provoking!
Loved this video. Wish more young people saw this and realise the impact their fast fashion purchases are having on the environment. Fashion bloggers and social media are just escalating the issue as people (especially younger generations) are bombarded daily with trends and what they should be wearing to "fit in". I loved hearing about your journey! As I am slowly ending my twenties, I have had a similar experience wherein I focus on quality vs quantity and look at the materials. I love the rise of pre-loved luxury fashion and your point about selling those pieces more easily is so true. Its a much better use of your money from a quality perspective but also from an investment perspective as you will get a good amount back once sold. Thank you Mimi! Please do more of these and help educate us!
As a knitter i do not buy top garments now and socks because i make my own. And i always go for natural based fiber for the top like bamboo or linen for summer and diff types of wool for colder seasons. There is 1 place for plastic for me, socks. Because they need durability. And nylon is what knitters commonly use. 15 to 20% nylon content yarns are usually common.
Love to watch ur sit down videos. Very informative and Im going to be very alert when I buy stuff. I was already avoiding buying polyester bcz I didnt find it comfortable but thanks to u now I know why it didnt feel great on skin...

I’ve been working on this. It’s not easy to find things in my size as I am curvy and when I do find something, it’s extremely over my budget, but I am trying! Thank you for this! ♥️
I'm also curvy and this aspect is usually left out of the conversation. It's harder for those with bigger bodies to find clothes that fit much less with natural fabrics. Like you pointed out these clothes also tend to be higher priced.

I think Massimo Dutti is not that bad. There, you can buy many items made out of natural fibers. I love their cashmere, silk, and linen pieces. I personally have some of their items for 10+ years.
I stopped to buy fast fashion in 2017 with a few exceptions now and then for Massimo Dutti because I need to use formal clothes or even suits to work. I do think their clothes tend to last a little bit more when compared with Zara and similars, and I usually buy the ones that are made in my country (Portugal). However, I have noticed that the majority of their garments nowadays only recommend dry cleaning with tetrachlorethylene, they forbid any other type of wash. This is quite problematic for me because tetrachlorethylene is very toxic to be in direct contact with our skin and doesn't seem to be eco-friendly at all. What a shame! 😔
I agree 100% a few years back i have changed my shopping style and has helped me big time and has transformed my wardrobe big time. Thank you so sharing Mimi. Love your videos, so glad your are back !!!
Your high end clothes are also made in Bangladesh. It doesn’t mean that product from made by Bangladesh are polyester. It’s the company who chose the fabric and place an order to the garment factory in Bangladesh. For your kind information Bangladesh has all kind of fabrics and especially people from Bangladesh likes cotton because the temperature is hot there. How much do you know about Bangladesh? Please make it correct that brands choose their fabrics not Bangladesh.
I think it's great that you are conscious about the environment and are mindful about your purchases. I just wanted to provide a couple of unsolicited remarks. First of all, people do buy second hand polyester and second hand everything. Also, materials like cashmere, wool, or silk do not "come from the environment". Animals are exploited for you to wear these. And last but not least, have you considered pieces made of recycled materials, including plastic?

Thank you for this video. I definitely resonate with alot you said. 1. Polyester feels terrible on skin 2. Fast fashion is often a money thrown away because the quality and lifecycle of the clothing is below average. 3. Items bough than you kinda liked ends up clogging your wardrobe and give you no pleasure upon consumption. 4. Fast items of low quality are polluting the planet. Lovely advises some of which I will definitely follow. Nice to have you back on UA-cam 👍

This video resonated with me because right now I am working my way through my home doing the exact same thing but with my home decor. I’m decluttering massively all the junk that I’ve accumulated throughout the years and removing these items only to replace them with higher end items or real plants. I want to surround myself with beautiful things but not have a jam packed cluttered house. The same should go for our wardrobe. You’ve inspired me to take this concept into my closet and move forward by buying only pure natural high quality items. Can you recommend a winter coat? I looked on Burberry website and was sad to see that the $1500 coat I wanted had a lot of polyester. You’re so right about checking the labels. Thank you 😊 ❤

You truly have helped me shape many of my thoughts and I love that you give practical advice like this video that not only presented the topic, but gave actions to follow in an empathetic manner understanding the difficulty of choosing sustainable fashion and jewellery.
This is amazing and perfect timing. I’m looking for a dress for my anniversary but just can’t seem to find something sustainable. I’ll definitely take these tips with me the next time I go shopping.
Agree that poor quality is expensive and a good quality is cheap in the the long run and that it's worth in investing in good quality items that will last longer and can be reused. This goes not only for the fashion but any other things we buy. I would love you to share books and documentaries you read and watched on the topic and would be grateful if you could share it in the description box or perhaps in another video. It's lovely to have you back on YT 🥰🤗
Mimi thank you so much for sharing what you have learned! I love learning about how to minimize my environmental impact and this is an aspect I have not focused on much, but now I will! ❤
It's so nice to have you back here on UA-cam, Mimi! Accidentally I'm on the same way as you are. I'm used to wear clothes made of natural fibres all my life anyway, but not every piece made of cotton etc is sustainable. Furthermore the cheaper clothes are often not cut and/or sewed well, so the garment becomes soon unattractive. With some help from fashion designers I found out to which things I should be vigilant about. I also did and still do some research which fashion label is producing environmentally friendly and paying a fair price to the people who participate in the production. This is quite an interesting journey and one appreciates the clothes even more if one knows how they are made. Here in Germany we have a label called Armedangels which fulfills all these conditions and I love to buy lots of clothes there. You can already feel on your skin the quality and the fact that they don't smell at all, makes me happy. So I don't mind to pay about 80 Euro for some pants for example. I'm curious about your experiences and can't wait for your next video! 🤗❤️
I would love some more follow up videos in regards to designing a good wardrobe. I've watched your color analysis video many times but still find it hard to figure out how to remember those shades of colors whilst shopping. Would love some follow up videos relating to color analysis and styling for specific body shapes. Good to have you back on youtube. You are inspiring ✨️
Do you have any favorite ethical brands? Especially children’s brands. Actually more “mommy” content would be amazing. I’d love to hear your thoughts on toys, Montessori, etc. So glad you’re back!
It was a very informative video .. ❤ I did notice changes in ur choice of clothing from couple of yrs (through Instagram). 😀 Its always refreshing to watch you're content .. love you 😍😘
Congrate Mimi, going such transformation, is so beautiful. It takes time and is a back and forth path. Wish you a lot of strength and beauty experiences. Ami
Hello Mimi I agree in almost everything you’d said , I think that second hand stores are the way to go, and using quality vs quantity is a very good choice however some of the natural fabrics are not animal friendly like wool , this industry is full of animal suffering unless the item comes from a second hand store, Animal suffering is something that always comes to my mind when I want to buy leather , feathers or natural fabrics.
The first I do, too, is check the fabric content on the label of a garment, or for online purchases, the fabric description. (Many of us oldster make a distinction between a label, which is sewn inside the garment and designed to be permanent, and a tag, which shows the price and sometimes the size, and is hanging on the garment and is designed to be removed). If there is no label showing the fabric composition, I just don’t buy it, it’s undoubtedly polyester, acrylic or nylon. Price is a good, but not infallible, guide. For example I just saw a YT video where the creator showed a “real silk scarf” for $9.00 US, but I knew it just couldn’t be. I checked the link to be sure, and it was of course, 100% polyester. On the other hand, I did once find a genuine silk scarf at H&M on sale for $12 and I love it. Amazon shouldn’t allow brands to identify as items as silk if they’re not silk, but they do., all the time They are also guilty of selling garments with no fabric content labels, which is actually illegal in most countries including the US, Canada, Europe and probably NZ/Australia. There are certain things which must be included on these labels, fabric composition and care recommendations are two important ones. I also don’t buy plastic shoes, not even one single pair has ever turned out to be comfortable and I’m 63. Unlike leather, they never stretch, soften or break in, and the straps slice into the skin of the feet, I have scars to prove it. Plus, they make feet sweaty, a good way to get toenail fungus or Athlete’s Foot! Plastics don’t really work on the human body anywhere, I’m sure they’re ok for others uses, deck awnings?, car covers? but not for apparel.
Marc O Polo is sustainable brand also they use the best wool kashmir alpaka ect, i work for them and i recommande it to everyone that search for something good

You’ve inspired me to take this concept into my closet and move forward by buying only pure natural high quality items. Can you recommend a winter coat? I looked on Burberry website and was sad to see that the $1500 coat I wanted had a lot of polyester. You’re so right about checking the labels. Thank you 😊 ❤
Coats are definitely tricky but search for 100% wool or cashmere.
yesss!! this is exactly the journey I am on right now! Such a nice and inspiring video. Would also love to see more about caspule wardrobe and colour analysis. So glad you're back.

Thank you for this video! This is such an important topic that needs to be more talked about, if we want our descendants to still have a habitable Earth...all influencers should stop promoting fast fashion and plastic and use their platforms to raise awareness on this topic.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Iasmina❤
@@MimiIkonn thank you for making a difference
Thank you for this Mimi. You gave us what works for you and what you do but also some realistic attainable actions that we can ALL incorporate into our lives
I received the same message regarding claiming a prize from Telegram claiming to be from Mimi. I'm not very good at technology and I would to know if it's a scam.

You truly have helped me shape many of my thoughts and I love that you give practical advice like this video that not only presented the topic, but gave actions to follow in an empathetic manner understanding the difficulty of choosing sustainable fashion and jewellery.

Loved this video and would very much welcome one from you about building a capsule wardrobe. Thanks, Mimi!
This is amazing and perfect timing. I’m looking for a dress for my anniversary but just can’t seem to find something sustainable. I’ll definitely take these tips with me the next time I go shopping.
Thanks Crystal and happy anniversary ❤
I missed you Mimi! ❤ this video touched me, just what I needed right now as I’m trying to better myself!

thrilled you are back here lovely lady x
Thank you dear Zoe ❤
Agree that poor quality is expensive and a good quality is cheap in the the long run and that it's worth in investing in good quality items that will last longer and can be reused. This goes not only for the fashion but any other things we buy. I would love you to share books and documentaries you read and watched on the topic and would be grateful if you could share it in the description box or perhaps in another video. It's lovely to have you back on YT 🥰🤗
Please do a capsule wardrobe video!

Will be some Chanel unboxing soon?!.
Thank you so much for this video! For the next one i would love a topic about color analysis and choosing clothes for our personality :-) ❤ love you

I have actually noticed you lately wearing brands like Chanel- shoes and classic flap.
Hello Mimi! Yes, a capsule wardrobe would be amazing! You are very inspiring!
Marc O Polo is sustainable brand also they use the best wool kashmir alpaka ect, i work for them and i recommande it to everyone that search for something good
