Nice review nice knife, I like when reviewers use very technical terms. Such as a good " pokey and slicey blade". It really helps me understand the engineering behind such knives.
Watching this review again circa 2022. I purchased a Crooked River from the Custom Shop during Covid Lockdowns. Big fan of the knife and was pricing out a mini just now. So, when you filmed this the full size was just under $200 American. Now, during record inflation in the states, the Mini CR is $240 🥵…. Full size $265. Glad I got one when I did. Those prices took the wind right out of my sails for a mini. Guys gotta eat too lol
i love my crooked river, have had it since release. i often carry the north fork, as it is just smaller, but the crooked river is sexier. as to kitchen knives i now have 2 sets of kitchen knives, 1 set for everyone else, and my set, haha.
I know its not completely related to the video but I wanted to thank you Cedric for the trusted dealers you have listed. I bought a Mantra from Blades of Oz and the whole process is a breath of fresh air after a VERY VERY bad recent Spyderco Ebay purchase. Keep on doing what you are doing - your endorsement has real weight for me. :).
I thought you were saving for a Rockstead LOL. Nice knife, but I really dislike the orange backspacer. And orange is my favourite colour. Love the orange pivot collar tho, but the backspacer looks out of place. Nice knife, I've heard rumours of a smaller version in the works. I'd definitely be interested in a Mini Crooked River.
how does the cutting performance compare to a Cold Steel Broken Skull? because I had, used and loved that knife as an EDC for a very long time and found it to be a wonderful performer in that regard, where the Broken Skull let me down was in the handle being a bit too thin to be for extended periods of time and, so heavy duty cutting was a literal pain. I've since moved to a two knife EDC system, at least until a find a suitable replacement for the BS. anyway, love the videos!
I had one,for some reason it didn't hold an edge that well.Don't know, maybe heat treatment was not up to par on that batch,I've heard of a phenomenon called burnt edge?I sold it,haven't experienced that issue with the other,(five or six) benchmades I own
This is my favorite folding knife for camping & the like. Mostly I'll've used it to cut up the steak I've probably grilled, but it's also handy for scraping cactus thorns out of your boots, scraping stinging caterpillars off of your shirt, and, again, cutting up steak. I feel with this you can do without a fixed-blade knife if your hard-use woodworking tasks aren't too great, as they tend not to be in my neck of the desert. And did I mention it's really good at cutting up steak?
I’ve liked to look of this for awhile but just can’t see that price. What’s next for Benchmade? A 20CV version with G10 scales & a five hundred dollar price tag? They’ve got to be losing market share given their prices & the mounting competition.
g'day i want a benchmade for edc and i already a ruike p801 what should i get also i love you videos you are my favorite you tuber keep up the grate work thanks mate
As a guy from europe (who generally has to pay more for knives) I would pay this kind of money for benchmades s30v... but I wouldn't for their apparently unreliable fit'n'finish. I'm glad that I'm not interested in this model...
Okay then. Following on from my Patreon comment, I bought one of these. I've noticed a couple of things. Benchmade have dropped the website link etching that is below the 'S30V' etch. Further, in respect to my hand size query below. My hand completely fills this handle, ie, if I grip this properly with my thumb on the jimping and look from the back of my hand, you can't see the handle at all. Which destroys that theory about big hands meaning a big dick LOL. Good thing I bought this knife I guess.I've got the action working really well now and from here on I'll see if I end up with buyer's remorse. EDIT: This is the style and size of knife I like. Oh, a No10 Opinel (I have one) is much the same size in terms of open and closed length.
+A Simple Man its an american term, for the idyllic land where they go into the wilderness, wear camo clothes, stalk large game and carry folding sheath knives
+A Simple Man purposeful choice of words in line with the background of the 110 and my proposal that this knife aims for the same slice of culture, but yes. Bush.
Cedric & Ada Gear and Outdoors, ah the bush, now i can relate, thanks. I guess 100 subs pete is dead, rip; uggs, aussie slang, the word bush, seasoned vox killing gum, late night web cam productions, thinking multitools were better than knives, axe videos, unmown lawns, clothes lines in the back ground, excess body weight, undisclosed secret jobs, and your soft gentle voice talking me to a peaceful rest. Well I'll have to get used to American Pete
+A Simple Man the sheer amount of vitriol I wore for my unmown lawn and shitty backyard did actually cause me to shoot my videos in a different way. Seriously, at least three comments per vid. It was getting out of hand, I felt like I was being gaslighted
I really like the way the knife looks... Except for the "penis clip"... And that damn orange G10 backspacer! It just doesn't mesh with the more traditional look (I guess it does go with the whole hunting theme though). Also a bit too big for easy EDCing (just my opinion) and the Benchmade price tag is high as usual (not just an opinion, they seriously need to drop that "butterfly tax"). Fairly nice knife though all things considered.
I have a customized crooked river that cost me $500 due to modification and intricate art design on each side of the blade and I love it so much. But I agree with you. There will never be a new buck 110. Buck knives have a special place in my heart.
Okay my YT friend, I need to know what is a 'large' hand. Mine is 10cm wide at the knuckles. My middle finger is 8cm long (hello ladies) and from the wrist to end of my middle finger is 18.5cm. Where do I rate? ;o) EDIT: Holy shit! I just checked the Aussie price. $325 dollars! My hand isn't that big...Oh, or am I looking at the wrong knife or retailer? www.knifeshopaustralia.com.au/benchmade-15080-1-crooked-river-axis-folding-knife
@@angryguineapig4323 This is a way late reply, but thanks. My palm is 9.5cm wide and my hand is 19cm long. 7 3/4 in long and nearly 4 inches wide. Thanks for that link man.
Thx for review! But it's not a titanium bolster... it's aluminium
My local BM dealer has this on clearance & just picked it up today. I think it'll make a decent camp/backpacking knife!

Haha the mini costs $270 now and the large $280
I like the saber grind on my delica for the same reason, it just makes cutting cheese a bit easier and more consistent.

+Herne0011 Dion at Blades of Oz is good people, for sure
Can you make traps from cheese ?
Yes 😎
Thanks! Was looking forward to this one. Same likes and dislikes as me. Overall I quite like it even though it's mainly a safe queen.

+subroc yeah mini crooked river for 2018
apparantly. This one must have sold well
Another excellent one from benchmade!! Very happy with them, thanks for sharing!!! Hope your turkey day went well!! :-) :-)
I set my American Lawman down in the leaves when field dressing a deer and it took me 30 minutes to find it again. Now I use the Crooked River.
Jarlsberg is so damn buttery delicious!

anyway, love the videos!
Can anybody let me know what other Benchmade knives use the same screws as the crooked river ? Or what is the exact size of the screws used ?

Stick with the Ruike if your budget doesn't go to $350 odd..
Beautiful cheese :)
Pete's a cheese cutting machine!
I really like the looks of the knife , l just couldn't see paying $195.00 for an S30V blade .
As a guy from europe (who generally has to pay more for knives) I would pay this kind of money for benchmades s30v... but I wouldn't for their apparently unreliable fit'n'finish. I'm glad that I'm not interested in this model...
Fucking live for Mersey Valley
Now we need to see the Expada XL vs.CHEESE!
Dude how much cheese do you guys eat?

Wasn’t the production for this canceled?
HalfBit360 Not in the USA market, anyway...they are the Benchmade best seller at many large sellers. I had one, but returned it.
Would've been nicer without the hideous orange !
Whats the "back country" sorry im Australian
+A Simple Man its an american term, for the idyllic land where they go into the wilderness, wear camo clothes, stalk large game and carry folding sheath knives
Cedric & Ada Gear and Outdoors, hmm would there be an australian alternative word?

Who the Hell eats all that Cheese ?
Time to invest in some quality kitchen knives though. If you're like me, you'll feel like an idiot for not doing it sooner.
