1st time I've watched one of your videos.... I have to say, this is the best commentary out of the 1000s of review videos I've watched on UA-cam over the years. Love the honesty, sarcasm, and how you call out the keyboard warriors that make idiotic comments on your content. I'll 100% be a long-time viewer/subscriber. Congrats of your success (almost 100k subscribers at the moment). Don't ever change!
I'm about to order one, I was just wanting to watch a couple reviews before ordering. That $180 sounds a lot better than $270 now. Thanks for the review.
Shouldn’t the Mini Crooked River just been called the Crooked Creek? Also I’m officially requesting more stuffed animal mutilations as part of your reviews. Including the flashlight reviews. k thanks
I actually forgot to hit record and had to mutilate it twice. Good thing I didn't do it all the way the first time! I then burned it in the fire afterward... although I didn't include that to keep from alerting the EPA. You shoulda seen the black smoke.
Definitely the best looking Benchmade. That being said, do they mean it's mini crooked to the right or mini crooked to the left? Because I may have a legal case here since I've had mini crooked to the left for 33 years...ish
I bought one of these last week (the embiggened one with the Dymondwood handle). I've worn it in and I am really liking it. I still pine for my old Buck Alpha Hunter folder with the guthook though. But wow, this is a smooth folding knife. (Edit) Oh, $355 AUD here in Kangaroo country. (2nd edit) I bought this one because I wanted another big folder...and I have wide hands...and it has wooden handles...and a clip point...and stuff. The Orange is slowly getting accepted after my initial "fuck that's bright" thought. It's actually a bit dirty now, so all good.
Is it wrong to love a knife more than most people? Absolutely not. Almost twenty years of working in customer service will attest to this. I have knives I love more that my own brothers, like my Leatherman Rebar. It has done more to help me by far than one of my own brothers. Also, this review alone has earned you a new subscriber. Very informative, detailed, humorous, and you even acknowledge fan comments or heckling in the video. Well done and well played. Right now, I’d love to own a customized Crooked River or Crooked River Mini. I know my financial future is going to improve enough so I can get many other knives, too. As soon as I can get this Richard Nixon mask on. It is itchy, and smells like it has been used as Keith Richards’ jock strap.
It’s definitely my new favorite EDC! The only change I made was to switch my clip out to a Bencemade deep carry clip. BTW, Amazon’s latest price is $270!
Just bought this knife and waiting for it to get delivered. I’ve been looking to buy a new pocket knife for awhile now and I just couldn’t pull the trigger on any of them until I saw this knife. After reading reviews and watching a video about the “MCR” I was sold. This is my second benchmade, my first I bought 20 years ago and probably lost it within a month of owning it since I was 17 and reckless. I can’t wait to get this thing especially after watching this video. 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
I love how you don't beat about the bush with who buys this knife and what we buy it for lol...(to some extent anyway) Its actually quite refreshing and funny to have a such brutally honest review. "stick out of your pocket...while sitting at your computer desk" xD obviously we do get some use out of our knives for day to day purposes, and you are just clearly poking a little harmless fun, but it is also true for the most part and that's why its funny....and there's nothing wrong with that. I consider a knife like this a work of art that you can just enjoy owning/carrying. The type of people watching these videos are the people who partially (or maybe completely) own knives just as a hobby and not just for pure utility alone. Allot of us ain't hardcore hunters living in the wild, and we don't exactly need to know how well it cuts open an animal as its not something we are going to do. For example, how many rich Ferrari owners are actually getting use out of an engine of that caliber driving to work? They don't need race car speeds...but they want it. A big part of having a knife of this style and quality is just that...for its quality feel and craftsmanship...its nice, cool and fun. And when we do need to cut something...it does the job perfectly. (even if a cheaper 440c knife would have done the job just as well). The same way most of us don't need more than one knife...but like hell if we ain't gonna own a couple right ?
Man, that is one sweet looking folder. If I had the money I would certainly purchase one. I have a 941 I purchased about 10 years ago and I sure do love it. It is a real beauty of a knife also.
Hi, can you recommend a pocket knife for my 20 yo Son serving in the Australian Infantry regiment. I’m overwhelmed with the choice. I got to your channel via Buck 110 but now realise it’s outdated but I liked the traditional look. The crooked river seems good. What do you think?
crooked river is very nice, buck knives are nice too the standard 110 is a bit heavy and needs to be carried in a sheath- but there are lighter variations.
Nice review I got the Benchmade bug. Just finally bought a d2 Cabela's griptilian and a presidio 2 recently. I never owned a crooked river but I must say the smaller version is very tempting. I see one in the future for sure. Thanks again for the review. -Kevin
Guess I'm a little late to the party. I've wanted one of the full size for a few years now and finally bought one for my wife to give me for Christmas. Fell in love with it when I first saw it and should have bought it then when they were under $200. Now they are selling in the $300 range !! Oh well, it's only money right ha ha.
Can anybody let me know what other Benchmade knives use the same screws as the mini crooked river ? Or what is the exact size of the screws used in the mini ?
I’m late to the party, but have to say the mini-crooked river is my favorite knife. Got a customized version (with deep carry clip). Definitely on the pricey side, but it get a stab of joy every time I open a package or, you know, fidget with it.
Due to this video, not only did I buy a Crooked River "CUSTOMIZED" but I also bought a Mini Crooked River!!! GRRR Thanks AKB "GRRRRRR" oh AND I subscribed DAMMIT!!! Love the cursing and comedy. Then I took another sip of my Jefferson's Oceans Bourbon. Keep up the great reviews!
I bought mini it just a few weeks ago. Very happy. My dad a Has a pretty old Bugout he got in Iraq. I think he’ll like like a mini crooked for Father’s Day. I feel like it’s a little more gentlemanlyish
Should I send my knife back for either a replacement or a solid tuning? Just got the knife, and need some advice. The knife has what apparently are expected flaws from Benchmade. The blade was off-center, but worse, after playing with it for a day, it centered, and then after another day it was off center again, and today, it is centered. I'm going to have to stop looking at that or it will drive me nuts. The gap between the dymondwood and aluminum is not only visible, but uneven: it grows from 0 on one side to maybe 0.5mm on the other, not quite enough to fit a fingernail. However, the scarry flaw is this: The scales are not properly attached to the handle. When I got it, if I squeezed the knife handle, it squeeked, so I was going to send it back, but after a day of playing with it, the squeaking stopped. The scales still are not attacked properly: I've never bought a $5 pocket kife with loose scales. If I rub my finger over the gap between the aluminum and dymondwood, I feel a bump on the wood side, but if I press down on the middle of the scale, that bump goes away. The scales are not laminated to the handle. They're not even screwed to the handle. I like this knife a lot! Should I just accept that Benchmade makes nice knives like this with some somewhat scary flaws, or should I demand a replacement?
I like the full size. Hunting style knives really appeal to me. Not so "scary" looking when you pull it out either. Reminds me of the gerber gator, only better. I like the grip on the gator though.
This will probably be the only knife I ever pay that much for the mini should at least be a little cheaper then the full size but benchmade knows they can milk it for every penny . There just isn't another knife iv seen with this blade shape wooden handle and orange accents it's like the took my classic dream knife and modernized it . Great review I'm glad I didn't order the 940 I'd be pretty up set at this point I thought I'd get the grizzly ridge for price but it's bigger and has a recurve I don't wanna deal with.
I think they hit the sweet spot with this one. Classy looking blade and sized appropriately for EDC. I noticed Benchmade has a neck knife coming out called the 101 that looks interesting. I got a CRKT minimalist for Xmas and for some reason have an affection for neck knives now. Rock on Knife Bro!
This knife hits all the sweet spots... light, decent blade size, long enough comfortable handle, and the clip point works well in an every day carry setting.
Im new to knives. I picked this up today and its very nice. Its ok that i wrist flick it open and closed? How well made are these? It wont snap off or anything?
This video is 9 months old now. Is the mini crooked river still your favorite? I handled the full size and mini at Cabela's yesterday. Couldn't decide which I like best because I felt like I might miss out on something not getting the big one. I'd like to see you review the new Benchmade Grizzly Ridge. Nice looking knife.
I like the fact better. However there is nothing wrong with this one- and its probably more practical. I have carried the full size much less... too big for work and in the pocket. If you’re outside a lot- and don’t mind a big knife in the pocket get the full size- if you need more practical knife and use it around people a lot- go with the mini.
Hey man just signed up. I`m from Brazil and taxes are soo crazy here that even ganzo knifes are not cheap soo thanks for your work. Also great quality and funny!
+Advanced Knife Bro don’t bite the hand that feeds, right! Keep up the good work. It’s nice to have someone with a realistic point of view about knives reviewing them. Tools as they are, few people in the knife community “need” their knives as much as they clamp to. Keep on keeping things real. BTW I like Spyderco as well.
Is that a WAY offcenter grind shown at 1:31? I know this vid is old, but I'd like to know because I'm picking my next knife and I want to go up a class or 5 in quality (from the $40ish import gerbers from walmart) and am considering a mini crooked river or 940. Shouldn't you get a better final grind then that on a approx $200 knife? Unless that's a trick of the camera I would be disappointed with a grind like that on a $40 knife!
Need a proper graph indicating grip in KY jelly vs tactiCool overbuiltness. Great review! Keep calling out the dumb comments. It’s the best part of this video. lol

D4, BLF GT and Zebralight SC600 mkIV are my current reviews planned. Much more than that no- no others are on a list or being considered. I have already reviewed the best EDCs, throwers, and flooders... so I don't see a lot more that interest me.
I like the over built ! But I don't like heavy .that's why I love the recon1 the code 4 recon 1 XL . Light strong beautiful ! The clip point blade ! Yeah !
AKB, you Rock! Your channel has flickered in and out of the portion of my frontal lobe that serves my limbic system's apparently boundless interest in tools that I Really Don't Need. And today I finally watched one of your vids about a knife that has been on my Stabbing Tools Bucket List for a few years. I learned, laughed, and subscribed. Big thumbs up! And your approach to the nattering spec pedants indicates a maturity and social intelligence far beyond theirs. But. WHAT KIND OF A "KNIFE REVIEWER" DOESN'T USE MICROMETERS AS THE MEASURE OF LENGTH? Get a real job, Broham!
I almost picked the big one up at a Bass pro shop one time. I really liked the feel and look. Also Cold Steels 2018 lineup looks super weak. It almost seems like they're going out of business.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro Thanks. I bought the mini, recently. Looking at your video, I was starting to think I should’ve gotten the larger one, but I’ve read numerous people stating it’s “too big and cumbersome....that the mini is perfect.”
man i love the way u review knife, u really dont give a damn about what people gonna tell ya & the amount of sarcastic in this video is mindblown. u just got a subscriber. So do you still love this knife after a few years? Or do u already got another replacement
I was choosing between the full size crooked river and the freek. I have a couple tactical knives to satisfy my collection, so the crooked river seems like a nice looking hunting knife I can use for edc. Personally, i do think it's pricey, but I'd rather spend a little extra for great quality.
Advanced Knife Bro ok. Thanks. I just love the BM deep carry clip so much, that I've now switched them all over. I'm even surprised now, when I see this 'old' clip, come installed on new BM models.
Yea, I like the smaller one too.. Missed the GT while watching, but saw the comments mentioned it, these damn eyes aren't what they used to. I had to go back after rewatching it a couple of times-ish..
Is the Mini Crooked River still your favorite BenchMade knife? I just recently picked up the BenchMade Grizzly Ridge another outdoor style folder. Also, random question. What do you think of the Spyderco Manix 2?
Funny how steel snobs bitch about S30V "being in a knife more than $100" I remember when S30V was new and nobody was using it except Chris Reeve (he helped Crucible develop it) and a Sebenza then was $300-ish dollars. Also, "Lifelong companion, or student loan of a knife" DUUUUUDE that hits home so hard LMAO.
Like that hottie that you managed to get a date with ! The high maintenance isn't worth it ! The spring on my crooked river large just broke only a few months old ! The mini came with a broken spring then the other broke shortly after ! Now I have to order another ganzo ( that I don't like ) to get some good springs ( not getting them from benchmade that would be a wast of time and money ) ! The price as I have said is out of line with their quality control ! Don't get benchmade through the mail go to the store and try them ( don't know how that would detect crappy spring that break later ) I thought the mini had a good spring poundage until the other spring broke !
In my opinion this is the best looking and user Benchmade I would buy. I like the large version with 4-inch blade I would remove the pocket clip and have a belt sheath made for it instead. Just my opinion nice knife from Benchmade.
I’m torn between this and the Super Freek... this looks so classy and less like I’m gonna say “hey bro, look at mah frikin deadpool knife.” But the Super Freek has M4, and was way lighter than I expected.

Omg. That stuffed animal moment was awesome! I wasn't expecting it at all. Well done.
Don’t listen to these haters. Be strong! You can “ish” all you damn want to. Let the dry sarcasm flow and keep the videos coming.
You have officially sold me on this knife. Great vid and one of the best if not the best review of this knife.
I like it a lot... it's a great every day carry.
Great review! Sounds like it's your new favorite-ish Benchmade!
I'm about to order one, I was just wanting to watch a couple reviews before ordering. That $180 sounds a lot better than $270 now. Thanks for the review.

Definitely the best looking Benchmade. That being said, do they mean it's mini crooked to the right or mini crooked to the left? Because I may have a legal case here since I've had mini crooked to the left for 33 years...ish
Good point. They new what they were doing by also giving it the clip.
Love the knife, hate the price. Would buy it around $100-ish.
Love the El Camino, hate the price. Would buy it if it was around $2,000 ish.

How's the knife after 6 months? Still your favorite? Looking to buy this or a Bugout, or maybe a G10 griptillian. Don't know yet.
I used to carry $15 swap meet knives. I would always lose them. Then I bought a ZT. Haven't lost it and it's been 4 years.
Hey how do you feel about the mini crooked river now? I purchased it a few weeks ago and I like it a lot.

However, the scarry flaw is this:
The scales are not properly attached to the handle. When I got it, if I squeezed the knife handle, it squeeked, so I was going to send it back, but after a day of playing with it, the squeaking stopped. The scales still are not attacked properly: I've never bought a $5 pocket kife with loose scales. The scales are not laminated to the handle. They're not even screwed to the handle.
I like this knife a lot! Should I just accept that Benchmade makes nice knives like this with some somewhat scary flaws, or should I demand a replacement?
By all means send it back- if your knife doesn’t work properly.
Is it possibly a fake?

I forgot about the whole smoking thing nowadays... that may be the one rated R one- because tobacco!
Indeed, I was actually bothered by the Non-Smoking in "Blade Runner 2049"
This was your number 1 benchmade then, where does it fall now?
Hey, you still got a Emisar D4 review on the way? I'd be keen to see more reviews on the Emisar lights, they're fascinating!
Yeah I do... but I still need to shoot some stuff for it.
I was about to buy it but I think $180 is crazy. What is a good budget knife?
check out my Ruike review. That's a good cheapy. The Mercator k55k is too... case sodbuster.
Advanced Knife Bro Thanks bro. I'll get that Fenix one. I was thinking about also getting bantum because it looks strong.
Ontario Rat 1 in D2 steel.
Can't wait for that BLF GT review. Do you plan an Emisar D4 review? edit - or D1 or D1s?
D4, BLF GT and Zebralight SC600 mkIV are my current reviews planned. Much more than that no- no others are on a list or being considered. I have already reviewed the best EDCs, throwers, and flooders... so I don't see a lot more that interest me.
is it still your favorite?
I like the over built ! But I don't like heavy .that's why I love the recon1 the code 4 recon 1 XL . Light strong beautiful !
The clip point blade ! Yeah !
First video I've watched from you. Comical, informative, good review!

Such a satisfying video, batoning part especially, too bad it got folded during that part
Where did you get the boots or shoes you are wearing?
They are Redwing Beckmans.
Love video just ordered this for my first Benchmade
Best knife channel on yt!
Thanks dude !
I almost picked the big one up at a Bass pro shop one time. I really liked the feel and look.
Also Cold Steels 2018 lineup looks super weak. It almost seems like they're going out of business.
The only one that interests me is that lightweight one that retails $300. Too much for me.
Advanced Knife Bro It may drop to around 150 once it hits Amazon in about a year.
I saw it for 160 on knife center today I think. I still don’t think I can pull the trigger
Advanced Knife Bro It seems I spoke too soon... ua-cam.com/video/mqJGgfLGkPA/v-deo.html
Are there deep carry clips that will fit this knife?
Is the Crooked River full size too big in hand?
It is a pretty large knife. I don’t know if it’s too big for you. You can do some basic construction using cardboard using the dimensions to see.
I sold this and kept the big crooked River. It’s a good knife but I didn’t carry the mini much.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro thnx for the feedback, hope ur channel grow from time to time
You can call Benchmade warranty department and ask them to send you a deep carry pocket clip. Thank you for the video
I was choosing between the full size crooked river and the freek. I have a couple tactical knives to satisfy my collection, so the crooked river seems like a nice looking hunting knife I can use for edc. Personally, i do think it's pricey, but I'd rather spend a little extra for great quality.
Can it open letters or MRE's and sometimes water bottles or 550 cord? If so then we have a military winner. Back to mopping and buffing.
Thanks Bro.
This is a great . . . ish video review!
Do you think you'll switch pocket-clip?
I like it just fine. They’re springy and durable... I don’t care about it not being deep carry.
Advanced Knife Bro ok. Thanks. I just love the BM deep carry clip so much, that I've now switched them all over. I'm even surprised now, when I see this 'old' clip, come installed on new BM models.
You really outdid yourself on this one
Yea, I like the smaller one too.. Missed the GT while watching, but saw the comments mentioned it, these damn eyes aren't what they used to. I had to go back after rewatching it a couple of times-ish..
It's a workout using it... man is it ever heavy.
swearing and F word is what defines AKB
It’s always been the same man!
Is the Mini Crooked River still your favorite BenchMade knife? I just recently picked up the BenchMade Grizzly Ridge another outdoor style folder. Also, random question. What do you think of the Spyderco Manix 2?
Manix 2 has never been my choice... prefer the spyderco pm 2. Check out my top 10 knives... contains comments on the mini crooked river.
Nice, thanks for the reply.
I'm not even that into knives, I mean I like them and have a couple but I watch for your comedy and learning.
Thank you!
How do you like it after 3 months?
Good... got a lot of stuff vying for the pockets though... I think I like a tad longer blade maybe
There are no spring s in da knife dumfuka.
Did the mini fail when batoning?
The murdered stuffy was an instant thumbs up. (Though I could never show this video to my daughter.)
I had to do this while my daughter wasn’t around. I let her carry it around when I bought it at Walmart the day before... little did she know.
Any chance you’ll review the grizzly Ridge? Bm seems to be making strides again
Maybe... maybe not. I do like the look of that one... however I'm broke.
In my opinion this is the best looking and user Benchmade I would buy. I like the large version with 4-inch blade I would remove the pocket clip and have a belt sheath made for it instead. Just my opinion nice knife from Benchmade.
is it still your favorite Benchmade (its over 6 month)?
I like the fact a bit better.
I’m torn between this and the Super Freek... this looks so classy and less like I’m gonna say “hey bro, look at mah frikin deadpool knife.” But the Super Freek has M4, and was way lighter than I expected.
Is this still the favorite Benchmade?
The Fact is.
It's been 6 months, is the mini Crooked River still your favorite pocket knife from Benchmade?
I prefer the Benchmade Fact actually... Mini is nice though, but the Fact has a deep carry pocket clip, and is pretty slim in the pocket.
