    I am definitely a Benchmade fan boy. They were one of the first more expensive knives I ever purchased and I've never been let down by one. I've had a Benchmade in some form or another in my pocket everyday for about 4 years now and with the experiences I have had with them, I'll be purchasing more. My next one will be the Crooked River and soon after that I'll be adding a 940 Osbourne to the rotation. The 940 is a great option if you need to carry a smaller blade or if yo u don't feel like carrying a big knife that day.

    I’m a Victorinox guy
    as I live in Switzerland (maybe some sort of patriotism xD) and even you prefer
    the Benchmade knife more than the Hunter pro I recommend you, and anyone else reading
    this comment, having a SAK as a back-up knife with you. When I’m somewhere in
    the woods I always carry my Victorinox Trekker with me as it has so many
    additional functions (in total 12 for the civilian and 10 for the army version)
    compared to a proper Benchmade, Spyderco, Zero Tolerance etc.

    As far as Benchmade customer service, I have never had a huge issue with a knife. I severely bent the pocket clip on my Contego and I couldn't fix it to where it was usable. I contacted Benchmade, they sent out a brand new pocket clip and screws, no questions asked, no charge. Not a major issue, so I am not sure how they may handle something like that, but for my small issue, it was really good.

    Well thought out and presented comparison. Thanks, Tim, for all of the information.
    As an aside, sort of off topic for this comparison but about customer service, I've interacted with Spyderco. I emailed them a simple question about which pivot pin was stronger between 2 of their knives. They emailed back that they wouldn't answer because that was "proprietary information". I emailed back that I didn't want specs, just which was stronger, because I wanted to take one hunting as a backup. They didn't even respond to my 2nd email.

    My experience with Victorinox customer service is you can send them a 20-year-old SAK with a broken blade and chipped scales and they repair everything like new, no questions asked, for five dollars. On the other hand Benchmade took multiple emails, eight(!) phone calls, and three months to send me some replacement screws for the clip on my 940. Am I the only one Benchmade ever treated like that? Maybe. Am I going to give them more business? No.

    Little help please.
    I own a Victorinox Hunter Pro with wooden handle. The problem is when I open the blade, and apply some force in the same direction of resistance you would get when you cut something and then go the opposite direction, there is a tiny tiny bit of wobble. I can't see it with my eyes (because it really is tiny) but with the knife held in my hand, I can feel that something has moved. Just wondering if that is normal.

    The Victorinox is also avaliable with a shockproof plastic handle or with alloy handle.
    I perfer the walnut version like shown, just love the design of the knife, also like the drop point blade.
    In open position, it looks and feels more like a fixed blade knive then like a folder - and in closed position, it has no edges.
    Imo a perfect Design. Just listen to that "clokk" when the blde snaps in the grip, when You close the knife.
    440C? Is tat prooved? I would be really surprised if they don't use any "own" steele.
    P.s. The material of the seth is the same as the Tarpaulin on swiss army trucks.
    So it's a very tough and durable material.

      @whiskeydrinker24 6 років тому +2

      Mike Boone You get what you pay for. I understand not everyone wants to or can spend $150-$200 on a pocket knife, but at least in my opinion, the quality is there with Benchmade. I can't speak for Victorinox, I don't own there stuff, but I know my Benchmade's aren't going to fail me when I need them. I used to buy the $50 range Kershaws and similar brands, I got tired of replacing them. Chunks being taken out of the steel during takes where is shouldn't happen, large amounts of blade play, locks failing, etc. I bit the bullet and invested in a more expensive knife and in my experience, buy once cry once applied. I don't know what kind of knives you like, but if you find yourself in that situation, do some research, find a reputable company that has a knife that excites you, and pull the trigger on it if you are able. If it doesn't live up to your expectations, you can always sell it off or trade it, if it's a quality knife from a reputable manufacturer. Then again, I'm just some guy in a UA-cam comment section and my opinion means jack, but that's just my two cents.

    • @mikeboone4425
      @mikeboone4425 6 років тому +4

      Your comments are spot on, but after collecting will 200 knives over my In 74 years . I have to be honest never as yet spent over $75.00 bucks for knife they have all been used for years not one has ever failed . When saying failed I mean no broken tips no chips or dings in the blades and that is with both fixed and folding knives. But I am not a fan of folding knives especially the ones with lots of moving parts . I am a fixed blade guy, you take care as for you being nobody not true young man you and I are the heart of what makes this you tube work for every one, with out us there would be JACK as you say . I never go any where with out a fixed blade and my little Schrade my grand dad bought me in the 50's Take care stay honest as you are and you'll be fine .HAPPY TRAILS.

    • @whiskeydrinker24
      @whiskeydrinker24 6 років тому +1

      Mike Boone Well, that's a whole lot of experience and I'm glad you haven't had big failures with knives. It's a crappy feeling, you feel betrayed. That is very true, we are all consumers and many of us are very passionate about these topics. I've been behind the scenes on the other side of UA-cam as well and I'll say the guys who are putting content out regularly work hard to do so. I carry a folder for everyday stuff, I carry a small fixed blade as a defensive knife. If I need to pry on something or I encounter a task that could damage my knife, I always have a Leatherman on me. It has saved my bacon a few times. I appreciate the kind words sir, you have a good one.

HAPPY TRAILS . ps NOT TO MANY MOVEING PARTS THERE IN THE LOCL BACK.

Any knife that can be opened with one hand is no longer allowed to be imported into Canada and a lot of Canadians are going to wake up this spring to depleted stocks which will no longer be replenished for folding knives. Also USA and European manufacturers will no longer take a chance shipping knives to Canada in case they get seized by the border patrol people. Neither of those knives are woods knives, or hunting knives.... Folders suck for gutting and skinning because they get filled with hair, blood, meat etc, and they're a pain in the ass to clean out. Folders also suck for woods blades because they're not strong enough. So for those roles I wouldnt choose either one.
