  • Today, we're going to take apart an interesting knife, the Benchmade Mini Crooked River. Ultimately, we won't take it all the way down, but we'll get it running better than before.

    Nick-I have the full size crooked river: to remove the bolsters and axis lock first remove the handle scales which will expose the bolster retention screws.

    Hey Nick, I haven’t read through all comments, so I’m sure this has been mentioned a time or two already… but I took down my new mini Crooked River (just because) and when I tried putting it all back together, I ran into the issue of the pivot not wanting to go through the frame, washer, blade and out the other side. No matter what I did it wouldn’t work. So, I was beyond happy to see Nick Shabazz’s instructions of pulling slightly on the access lock… as that worked like a charm! I’m afraid it would’ve taken me longer to think of that on my own (if at all). Thanks! Enjoy all your videos! You da man!

    The glock pin punch tool is a great alternative to a watch spring bar tool for popping out pivots and other items for knife maintenance.

    You know nick I’ve really been appreciating small knives lately (I work downtown at night so I absolutely have to have defensive options) I know you don’t believe in that sort of stuff, but after turning 21 I can now legally conceal carry in my state and now that I have a gun I can carry small knives and not worry about it. I can honestly say I wouldn’t buy a knife this large now

    Can i remove the backspacer and the scales without removing the blade? Thank you

  • @prestonscott5367
    @prestonscott5367 6 років тому +1

    Open the blade before you pop out the pivot on Benchmades if you can, sometimes the axis lock will wonk the back of the blade up and you might drop the front of the blade on to the barrel spacers, denting it. That’s only for models without the backspacer

    I’m having a problem with the axis lock getting jammed when I open the knife. Any suggestions?

    Can anybody let me know what other Benchmade knives use the same screws as the mini crooked river ? Or what is the exact size of the screws used in the mini ?

    I've been looking at this knife for an edc/hunting/woodsman knife. What are your thoughts nick?

      I sold my PM2 to help finance my Mini Crooked River. I prefer the classier look of this knife over the the PM2. I love the clip point blade and wooden scales. However the PM2 is still a better slicer and better priced. The Mini Crooked River is just under $190 with S30V steel or $255 20CV on the custom builder while the PM2 comes in a variety of upgraded steels like S110V for $165. DLT is coming out with an exclusive 20CV variant for $142(EDIT: it sold out in 23 minutes). So I guess it boils down to beauty over function; I picked beauty.

    ok...so loosen the screw at the back of the knife (or both ?)...push the blade the way you want it to move,
    and while still holding the pushed blade that way...re-tighten the screw ?

    I have the big version of this knife. To disassemble it, you need to remove the wooded scales first because there is another screw holding down the bolsters.

    I know I’m late to the party but I just ordered my customized mini crooked river from benchmade. I got raped on the price but it’s going to be just the way I want it. Anyway, I appreciate your disassembly videos but maybe you should reshoot some of these older ones. Can’t see what’s going on with this camera angle. Just a suggestion in case people like me who are just getting around to older models want to take them apart.

    You have to remove the clip. Those screws screw directly into the liner.

    What are those Mats called? The rubber ones you disassemble knives on? Any brand is ok. Looking for name of it and possibly a source.

    Play a variety of hawk sounds out your window to scare off the unwanted bugger... it may scare away all the other birds in the area too though.
