I’ve been a technician now for 15 years, 7 of that being European specific. I’m now leaving a flat rate position and pursuing my own shop. I have the keys to a single bay shop off the beaten path. I’m going to specialize in European service and repair. This is a great video thanks for the tips!
@@sMFq11 I would suggest making sure you it secure. Cameras and security systems, this will assure your customers safety. And also an authorization form. Book a call I can help you.
I did brakes, suspensions, tuneups, interior, and simple exterior. I didn't need a lift and the customer turn around was fast. This allowed me to have 5 bays with very little start up costs. Some mechanics didn't want to work for me because I didn't have lifts but its easy to find guys who can do good simple work and are reliable. You don't have to complicate things.
Try getting a lift from the tool truck. It might cost a little more but it will get you started. Also see if you can find a used one. They are easy to move and set up.
Also make a list of all the services you do and check the profit margins and time your spending. I would suggest getting an estimating system and writing an estimate for everything. For example/ interior job. - R/I seats - Labor upholstery - Material - Extra Items like glue/ clips - Transport fee if you need to go get materials. -

I tell you what, we haven't even repaired a car yet and it's been brutal. But we did everything you said, banking, size, location, have our niche. To your first question, Start up plan or business plan is a basic blue print but it will change with demand of the market place. Great questions brother. To start I would suggest to start building up your name on social media. Post pictures of your work before and after. Even if your at the dealer or other shop. This will help with when you decide to open your place. You will have already gained a following. With location, like about what clients you will want and try to find something in that area. You don’t need a huge place if your can put some systems in place to push the work out fast. Sometimes with a big places it becomes storage place. But if you are going to do fleet they might require different coverage. If you are just starting out and unable to get everything covered. Maybe sure you have an authorization form for your customers to fill out. You can state you are not responsible for any damages. For auto body, One idea is to set up a "relationship" with an insurance company or 2. They can "promote" your business and bring in future customers. It also pays to have auto repair along with auto body as well. Auto repair, yes a salt state is a good idea, specifically, a big city in a salt state. Roads tend to be lousy, so owners could need suspension work, tires, etc. I live in NE OH, almost every corner there are auto repair or auto body shops. In fact many were lamenting the downturn in business due to the pandemic, and 2 winters ago the nice winter weather that did not sprout as many potholes, so their revenue was down lol.
You don’t need a GED or any certificates to get started. You just have to be welling to learn. If you don’t have any technical knowledge you will have to learn how to hire the right people. It’s possible👊🏾 I apologize for the last reply. if you message me on IG I will get back sooner.

You have to contact the insurance to become a Direct Repair Shop. They will ask you to invest in all the major equipment and ICAR. The process can get expensive and it might cost you if you dint have the man power to get the work out.
