    note: make sure it's agar to agar, if you sandwich the mycelium you'll risk slowing growth if not suffocate it completely.

    Great video, super well explained! This method looks wayy easier than the liquid culture one, which takes lots of effort and material. That'd be possible to only reproduce mushroom cultures in agar? I've tried to grow some Shiitake here in Rio, with corn, but it started growing a black mould.

    Thank you for making this video! I want to grow basic white button mushrooms for home use and I can't seem to find any grain spawn or liquid culture for them. I guess bc they're not gourmet or exciting. Now I can make my own!

    Will ethanol be a fine substitute for the alcohol?

    • @nuclearcooties9679
      @nuclearcooties9679 2 місяці тому

      70 percent works best because it has a mix of water in it which evaporates quickly. I wouldn't try to substitute it with ethanol unless you dilute it to make it 70 percent.

    I noticed you reused the parafilm on the petri dish. How many times can you reuse the parafilm?

    • @SporenSprout
      @SporenSprout  Рік тому +2

      If it doesn’t rip you can wipe it down with isopropyl and dry to reuse it for the life of that individual Petri dish. You can use your discretion. I think that grafting tape holds up a little better than parafilm does.

      Yea. Watch my video on how to make BRF jars or my video of how to make grain spawn and then inoculate with your syringe.

      Store them on a shelf at room temperature for around 6 months. They are good until the start drying up.

    Hey brotha. So I just made my first agar plates with shiitake mushrooms from the store. Followed all of your steps. How do I store these? Room temp? Or in the fridge while the mycelium grows?

    • @SporenSprout
      @SporenSprout  Рік тому +1

      Room temp while it’s growing and refrigerate once you are satisfied with amount of growth.

    Okay, but what are the following steps after this, if you want to grow the mushroom fully?

    • @Batsnang
      @Batsnang 3 роки тому

      This is just what I've seen in videos, I've yet to do it but: you should be able to cut a small section from the colonized agar plate and put it into some sterilized grain, inoculating it and making it grain spawn which can then be mixed with substrate and grown in various ways.

      You have a few options from agar, you can add the agar directly to your grain jar/bag, make a liquid culture, or continue isolation genetics.
