Thank you Helle, for an interesting look at a place I've never seen. I had to chuckle at the distinction between "old town" and "new town"! So much history; so much progress. And an interesting, knowledgeable commentary to boot😊
Lovely trip. After years of believing I was mostly English and German I found out I’m actually 65% Scottish so I enjoyed this post immensely. Thank you!
What a nice wee travelog, I live 20 miles from Edinburgh and over the last year or so, watched lots of people's experiences in Scotland. I very rarely get out and about to see these things as life tends to take priority, viewing all these posts are i am being inspired to jump the train and go for a wander. So for all our those happy visitors, "haste ye back"
Another great trip adventure & I have very fond memories of my trip to Edinburgh many years ago. Thank you for this wonderful film. I live in San Francisco Bay Area CA USA.
I was really thrilled to see this video! I moved to Edinburgh with my family (Newhaven area) and it's still so beautiful to me after six years of life here. Thank you for showing the best of our city.
As I catch up with your previous videos, I really loved travelling to Edinburgh with you! I went to the Edinburgh Rudolf Steiner School many many years ago and this was a great homecoming and brought up wonderful memories.Thank you so much! Just before the pandemic I went to the Edinburgh Yarn Festival which was definitely the highlight of my knitting life! - you would love it!,
Oh, jeez. Thanks so much. The affection is indeed genuine, and I’ve recommended Edinburgh (and Scotland in general) ever since to anyone who would listen. And they’ve all said the same: We’ve wanted to go to Scotland for a long time. It was my turn to say: Well, make haste! 😎
Helle, if you ever get the chance, you should watch a charming film musical, "Sunshine on Leith". The music is the songs of the Scottish band The Proclaimers.
@@briangronan5100 Ah, thanks for the suggestion, Brian. Will try to find it. They were the ones with …”and I would roll 500 miles ..” etc, as I recall. (And knowing my brain, I’ll now ‘hear’ that song on repeat for the rest of the day…)
I absolutely love your videos and I was in Edinburgh in June 2022! It is a very fave and, like you, I am a huge Outlander fan! I just hope I live long enough to read the last book of the series! Thanks so much for your musings! Hugs from northern Virginia, USA! ❤️
I'm Scottish and I never tire of going to Edinburgh (I now live in Australia) Next time you go to Scotland try and go to the Isle of Skye, it is a truly amazing place the natural beauty of the place is breathtaking.
Hi Helle. Next July i will also visit Edinburgh. I'm going to want to visit the places shown in the video. I'm always grateful for your beautiful videos.
Hi Carla. That sounds wonderful. I’m sure you will love it. I would recommend going up into the Highlands, too, if you have the time. Thanks for your comment 🌸💕
I must say you are a kindred spirit Helle ! I read Outlander when no one ever heard about it starting in 1992 and it remains one of my favorite series I had taken my small children to the library story hour and while they were listening I wandered off and found this book on the shelf named Outlander thus started a lifelong relationship with the author and the characters If you have not read the series I highly recommend it and I do like the series even with some liberties they have taken. I enjoyed this video and Scotland is on my short list . It amazes me sometimes how people who live so differently in the world can find such common ground and it also gives me hope.
How lovely, and yes I read them over 20 years ago and loved them. However, I stopped after book no 6 and preferred the early ones, but I’ve seen the first 3 seasons maybe five times now 😌
What lovely views of a very picturesque city! And yes, i do imagine living a parallel life in a different place, in my case, its Copenhagen!!! Nothing wrong with dreaming I suppose! Thank you for these views of Edinburgh, take care, until next time!
Thank you, Katherine. And lovely to live an imaginary life in Cph ☺️ No, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with dreaming of such things; it makes for a rich inner life. Take care💙
What a lovely podcast episode. I live in the US and I am heading to Scotland in 3 weeks and meeting up with my friend from Germany. I’m really looking forward to lots of hiking in the Isle of Skye and seeing a few places where Outlander was filmed. Did you find a good yarn store in Edinburgh?
Thanks, and oh my goodness, that’s my dream trip right there 😍 I didn’t go to a yarn shop because it was kind of far away from us, and you, with family around you, it’s difficult to spend the required two hours in a yarn shop! But next time, I will definitely seek out Ginger Twist Studios, which I’ve heard good things about. Have a great trip ❤️
Edinburgh seems to be a really nice city and Scotland in general has fascinating landscapes. However, during my England visits I always explored the South. In 2003, when I was 15, I stayed in Eastbourne and also visited Rye, Arundel and other parts of Sussex and Kent. The typical "merry old England" with sleepy villages, rolling hills, old pubs, high hedges, country lanes, castles and beautiful manors covered with wild wine and ivy. May and June are the perfect months to go there when everything is fresh and green.
I couldn’t agree more with you, Vincent. I’ve seen several of the places you mention - along with many more, being also a huge fan of the South, eg Kent and Sussex, but also the Cotswolds. (I wrote about much of this in my book about (my love of) England. Lovely to know you’ve been there, too 😍
The Cotswolds are stunningly beautiful. I plan to go there this summer and visit Burford, Chipping Campden, Stanton and other enchanting places. When I sit outside a romantic, old pub covered in ivy with the birds singing and the sun shining I will think of you.
@@vincentc2646 Aw, thank you, Vincent, and that sounds like an excellent plan for the summer. I’ve been to Burford (sigh) and also to Bourton on the Water and Woodstock. And since we were there, Blenheim Palace. Delightful to drive around on the small backroads in the area. Have a wonderful trip when you go!
I think the rain is fitting for Scotland or perhaps a rain forest 😀 Some very nice video, love off the beaten path wanderings. I may need a "what am I looking at app". Thanks for Sharing, Helle.
Ha, indeed, Marcus. I recall being in Scotland in July, and it rained much of the time. But then, I’m Danish and pretty used to it. Thanks for your comment 😊
That street you would like to live on (church lane or circus lane) looks a lot like the well known street named Peder Barkes Gade in Aalborg wih the steeple in the background). I would say you found a parallel universe :)
I had to google the street you mention, despite having lived in Aalborg for six years. That was decades ago, but you’re right, and when I saw a photo, it rang a distant bell ☺️
On your next journey to Edinburgh….look oot for my Taxi. A real Taxi, not that uber nonsense. I’ll know you…I’ll give you a hurl aboot the city….. free ay charge ken. 👍🏻
Do I ever imagine a parallel life and where I would live... every time I see one of your lovely videos.
Also I tried, very hard to watch that TV show, but couldn't get passed the first few episodes.
Aw, that’s very kind, Jason. I think it’s only human to imagine other lives - and maybe even shows an active imagination 😌
@@cyntogia No worries 😉 I know it tends to divide people; I have friends who love it and some who can’t stand it 🤷🏼♀️
@@danishmusings I have nothing against it, I just couldn't get into the show.
@@danishmusings seriously if it wasn't for lack of money and the politics Edinburgh looks amazing. Theoretically I could speak the language.

You're quite right - 44 Scotland Street exists only in the book! I'm pretty sure that's why he chose that number.
