A few years ago (pre-covid), I stayed at Castle Rock Hostel in late Sept. It was very close to Edinburgh castle and a 5 min walk to the Royal Mile. I stayed in a 6 bed (3 double bunks) women's room for a little over 18£ a night. I loved my experience there and would go back. I was doing a solo trip at age 65 and made Edinburgh my base. Met a lot of nice college age kids and even got invited to join in with beer pong in the large communal room. There was a Cafe just 2 doors down from the hostel that had great coffee and breakfast to start my days. I didn't visit Edinburgh castle then since I had already been twice before (no crazy crowds like you had). Loved seeing Margaret's Chapel at the castle and experiencing the cannon at 1:00. You can still hear it on the Royal Mile. This trip I went to Holyrood and very much enjoyed it. Especially seeing Mary Queen of Scots bedroom. Another visit I went to the Whiskey Museum(2006) and had my 1st dram of whiskey and loved it. Watching your videos has made me yearn for Scotland and Edinburgh. The solo trip was my 3rd trip but hopefully not my last. I've seen a lot of Scotland, but I enjoy watching your videos to places I haven't been yet. BTW my favorite whiskey is 16 yr Lagavulin 😋
I've been twice. The first time in my 20's backpacking and we actually had run out of money. We stayed in a hostel(which my friend paid for with the last of her cash). She could not access the ATM otherwise. I thankfully was able to w/d a very small amount of cash from the ATM enough to buy us 2 cans pop fr the vending machine, ground beef fr the butcher, and some other incidentals that I cooked a meal with back at the hostel. I do not remember us doing anything other than walking up and down the streets in the rain. I went year's later in my 40's escorting a small tour group and included experiencing the Royal Tattoo. What an incredible difference! I loved your video it brought back memories.
Blimey, you were brave in that hostel, definitely not something I would do. Very interesting to hear about the Edinburgh whisky bar (tipsie midgie) , must look for that next time I'm there.
@@ruthaislingI think there must be cheaper, less touristy pubs where a dram would be a lot cheaper. People might also get the chance to speak to Edinburgh natives rather than other tourists. However, I appreciate what you said about the awkwardness of being a woman on your own in a pub. 😊
Was born at Holyrood (Abbey Hill) and lived in Edinburgh for many years, left Scotland in the 90s following work abroad but returned to Scotland now living in rural Ayrshire. Great to see You had a good time in Auld Reekie. Victoria Street seems to have had work going on since the 70s with scaffolding up most of the time. Nice to see You made it to the trig on Arthur's Seat, used to walk my grans dog around the hill most mornings and rode every pushbike and motorcycle I owned as close to the summit as I could get it. Managed to get a photo of Honda 50 moped perched on top of the trig stone, pretty sure that involved a few friends and some Whisky. I remember some of he last old tram rails being dug up or covered over with tarmac back in the 80s, seems funny to see trams back in town all these years later. Thank You for this video and may You have many more good journeys. Keep On Adventuring! Aw tha best fae an auld Edinburgh tekno goat. Cheers!
For cost saving, a better alternative would be the DAYticket for Edinburgh Trams and Lothian Buses. The DAYticket worths it not only because the unlimited trips and walking time saved afterwards. Very classy Ruth as ever showing a bit of Auld Reekie. Beautiful city. I was born, bred and went to uni in Edinburgh. Been in San Jose California for 23 years but as the bard said “Edina! Scotia's darling seat! All hail thy palaces and tow'rs”
Was in Edinburgh in 1999, at 58 y old, not much has changed in the beautiful city centre. You gave amazing tips for traveling young people on a budget. Look forward to your next video 😊
That was a very good video Ruth, so different from your usual travels, it's surprising how the money gets used up so quick, you did really well to get so much variety from your hundred pounds though. I couldm't have slept in that hostel, thank you for sharing your adventure. xx
We traveled from South Australia to Edinburgh a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. We stayed just 30metres off the Royal Mile and visited lots of places. We visited the museum, castle, Holyrood Palace, Whiski Bar and lots of other things. We went a bit out of Edinburgh to the Sheep Heid 600 year old pub where Queen Elizabeth II had turned up for a meal unannounced a short while earlier. All fantastic experiences. Your video brought back so many pleasant memories. Love your work!!!! Bob❤
Thank you so much. A beautiful lady showing us around the most beautiful city in the British Isles. I installed software in a famous newspaper in Edinburgh and spent quite a lot of time there. I loved it. Shuttling between Edinburgh and Glasgow for weeks on end.
Interesting to see your £100 challenge. Liked seeing your hand on the Arthur’s Seat OS trig point. Perhaps you should start an OS trig point chronicle, bagging them across Scotland. Like you, I much prefer your time away from bigger towns and cities. Thanks for sharing.
Edinburgh is such a beautiful city and I can see why so many people want to visit.... but there are so many other amazing places in Scotland too! Nice idea bout the trig points!
This is so thoughtful and helpful, Ruth! Thank you so much! I enjoy every one of your videos because I learn so much and you’re sgood at explaining things so clearly!❤
Awwww my home town, but I live in Aberdeen now, I felt a bit homesick watching this, great video Ruth, you could also have took a stroll down to see the Botanical gardens in the Newtown for free. Maybe next time eh 😁
Such a flash back for me. My husband and I visited there when we were in Scotland in 2014. My husband had the vegetarian haggis. We saw the castle and Holyrood palace. Great memories! 👍
I have enjoyed each of your videos immensely. However this one is very dear to me, My mom was born in Edinburgh and in her 20's she lived on Leith Walk and spoke to me many times about her view of the castle. It blows my mind to think you may have walked the same streets as my mom did. Thank you so much for sharing this adventure. LG Canada.
Also worth noting that the Stone of Scone is no longer kept at Edinburgh Castle. As of March 2024 it’s been moved to be the centrepiece of the new Perth Museum.
I saw the Stone of Scone in Perth museum this summer; it's set in an installation with a beautiful animated story that explains of the history of the stone
@@ruthaisling To be fair the same as many locals - visiting Edinburgh Castle is always so busy, and after your night in that hostel I probably wouldn’t have the patience either!
Oh Ruth, I really felt sad for you when I saw the dormitory accommodation. I was in Edinburra in 1973 on a trip from New Zealand. I stayed at the Youth Hostel Association hostel but can't recall where it was, other than it being close to the main city centre. It was actually a really lovely building. Totally fell in love with the city, did the castle tour and saw the jewels. I went to see the tattoo but silly me got there a week after it had finished .. hah hah. Good thing was most tourists had left and the city was very quiet. I loved your adventure it brought back many memories, thank you so much .. travel safe .. Aroha from NZ. Steve.
Hey Ruth! I have have been watching your channel for quite a while and enjoy them for the scenery, history, excellent detail and narration! You are very pleasant on camera with a good sense of humor! Looking forward to more of your adventures.
I read that it was because of a ban on sheep's lungs being included in food because stomach contents can be expelled into the lungs when they're slaughtered. I don't think there's such a thing as a wild haggis species... :)
It's hilarious just how many people I've met that actually believe that! One guy even made a tongue in cheek video of him out hunting wild haggis and some folk thought it was real.
I really enjoyed the whole tour, your videos are very educational and I really got a sense of what it might be like to visit the city. Thank you for the great tour of Edinburgh Castle, the drone footage of the castle and surrounding areas and just the regular footage of walking around the castle and the hustle. As someone from the US it makes me feel much more secure when I visit to know a little of what to expect. Fantastic tour overall!!!
I wish I'd seen your video before I went to Edinburgh, last month, Ruth! Anyway, I really enjoyed your video and am working my way through your other videos, all of which have been great and inspired me to visit other parts of our lovely country! I'm so glad I have found your channel!
A good 'blocker' for hostels (or even I shared a room with a family member who is a tremendous snorer) is a Bluetooth headband. I just put white noise on it and slept like a baby all night. My head is small so the headband also covered my eyes.
Many thanks for the video. Brought back many memories of our 2010 stay in Old Fishmarket Close Edinburgh for a week. Prices seem to have risen tho. Hope you may get back to enjoy NZ again.
I am thinking the St Kilda mouse became more attractive after the night in the hostel!!😂 great video and made me want to return. Still need to tick off Arthur’s seat from my list.
so my Whiskey story on a visit. I met up with my Scots Cousins from Kirkcaldy Gordon and Maura. My wife and I were touring with them for 10 days and we were at Jenners. the girls and my daughter (aged 13 at the time) were off shopping and Gordon an I exploring. we got to a floor where a Kilted Gent was giving Whiskey samples. He asked if I liked Scotch, I stated it tasted like airplane fuel. He laughed and said " Aye, American! you've probably only had crap!" I agreed to try some. An hour later I was doing my Airplane impersonation in Jenners and loving Scotch! The rest of the tour about included several Distillers and a love of Scotch these many years on. Dalwhinnie turned out to be my number one but I find myself with a "Black and White" typically. I pine to go back again!
Loved your visit to the Whisky Bar in Edinburgh. It made me think of The Doors 1967 song called "Alabama Song" (Whisky Bar). It's on their 1967 debut album called The Doors. I love listening to music while having a brewski and a shot of whiskey. Safe travels Ruth!
I looked it up; haggis can be sold in the US if it is lung-free. "The ban was imposed due to the FDA's restrictions on using sheep's lung in food. The USDA has a zero-tolerance policy for stomach contents in animal lungs, which can spread disease. However, some American companies produce lung-free haggis for domestic consumption."
I visited Edinburgh Castle in 1986 when I was 19 years old and it was not even close to being as busy as it was when you went. We practically had it to ourselves. I would love to visit it again. Love your channel!
What a fun challenge to do! This was really cool to watch, and I will say, you are definitely dedicated to your videos. I would have pretended to sleep in that hostel overnight, but gone somewhere more private lol. Really cool to see some more of the bigger cities and what you can do, but really does go to show how pricey those tourist traps can be, no matter what country you're in. Love how excited you get over whisky haha!
I AGREE, also I would have cheated and had a fish wrapped seperately Plus a meally pud, I'd have snuck a mutton pie in the afternoon. And what happened to Rose street, running the whole length behind princess street, used to have 30 bars, music etc my youth. Living away many years. Great vid, shame about accommodation & transport. Take van for sleep outside city and transport cheap tickets, is just a suggestion.
Ruth, just watched your brilliant Edinburgh challenge of surviving on 100 pounds day. It’s one of my favorite cities especially the Royal Mile area. Thank you for the data points and trivia about the city. Best wishes for more such adventures !
Wow, thank you so much for the tour, it means a lot for me. My mother is from Edinburgh and moved here to the US. I feel I missed so much, born in the US while mom was still a Scot, her name was Scott :) Ive followed your tour of Scotland, I guess I'd better learn to drink scotch, Im a Tennessee bourbon man myself. Named after my gramps Murdoch Scott . Be safe out there!
You did well. It’s wonderful that all the museums and galleries are free…and excellent, too. Calton Hill is a nice walk with great views. We airbnb our stays in Edinburgh and do some light cooking to save money but definitely enjoy our fav restaurants, whiskies and gins when there. :) We had Haggis “bonbons” as a starter at The City Restaurant near the National Museum. Served piping hot and with a whisky sauce. Delicious! Scran also does excellent breakfasts (with veggie options) and terrific coffee for the same price as the restaurant you visited. The tram multi day tram passes are a good deal too. And finally, we totally agree that eSIMs are the way to go!
Love your videos about Scotland because I was stationed there in the late 70's while in the service at Edzell. I was in Edinburgh many times as well as Aberdeen and Dundee. I've been trying to get back there ever since.
Hey Ruth. Fab vid. Edinburgh, period has always been and shall always be, busy, as besides the tourists, there are three massive Universities there (of which I studied at one.) The size of the castle makes you feel like it is busy and while a 30 min wait seems long for the Crown jewels etc, the space is the issue. Compare that to what, maybe 4 hours to see Statue of Liberty or 2 hours in Buck palace etc.., 30 mins ain't to bad an inconvenience..Safe travels..
Traveled solo to Edinburgh back in January 2023. This video made me smile because it was like I was back there again! Thank you! Also I actually also toured the Auchentoshan distillery, so it was fun to see it mentioned!
Aside from a park bench, the cheapest overnight accommodation might be the night buses that used to do circular routes from the city centre to the suburbs. In my student days I used them for getting home after a night out and there were _always_ people fast asleep on them, just passing the hours away! 😂
Aww you did soo well!!! When I saw that title I had a wee giggle and genuinely didn’t think you’d managed to do so much. I love Edinburgh so much! Thanks for another great video 🖤🖤🖤

You recently inspired me to visit Scotland. So, beginning of October I booked my cheap flight from Germany to Edinburgh. I cannot believe we were in the same city at the same time. :D
Just found your videos! Very cool. I’m an American and I just came back from the UK. Spent some time in Glasgow and I was blown away how fun the city was. The people were amazing. West End was stunning. Also made it to Celtic Park. Cheers. Scotland is a wonderful country.
I love your videos! So informative and wholesome ☺️ You're review of those hostel dormitories made me chuckle. I stayed in one once......and never will I again haha
Hi Ruth, another lovely informative video, being from 'Auld Reekie' its nice to see that nothing has changed, (except prices) thank you for the grand tour. It has been many years since I left , however it was always Salt and Vinegar. Incidently tap water is also very good. I notce that you are optimistic with the sun-glasses. ha ha.
You did that with such enthusiasm for a city you know so well I enjoyed it and I have to say the sleeping accommodations were a challenge in itself Brilliant job Ruth hen 😎
Great video.I enjoyed it thoroughly ,Edinburgh is magic. Thanks a lot for your commercials as well.As a long time subscriber I can tell that they very informative and professional.Double thumb up !
Great video! It was helpful for ideas on what to do in Edinburgh from someone who is Scottish. I know you normally visit more remote locations, but I would watch these types of videos as well. Also, thank you for specifying the pronunciation - it was especially helpful as an American. I think I my pronunciation was closer to "burrow".
Thank you, that was really interesting. We are planning a trip for next year. Accommodation is more expensive in the city. However, it would be lovely to be central.
Ms Aisling thank you for sharing your home of Scotland. I've been watching you now sense your early beginnings. Initially it was your name 'Aisling' that caught my attention because my grand daughter is named 'Aisling.' Well also, I enjoy your enchanted personality. you are such a joy to watch and definitly a 'quaintrelle' spirit. : ) Though I am a multigenerational American i.e. 1st ancesters came over in mid 17th century; my ancestry actually has been traced to the Buchanan Clan. Maybe it is your Scotish manors etc. that I enjoy so much. Take care, and thank you for sharing of yourself. Truly, bill
When I retired I went to Scotland and England and Orkney Islands stayed 2 months stayed in hostels your video brought back memories I hiked Arthur's seat and hostel was just down from castle I spent 5 days wandering Edinburgh. I did the free ghost tour too..and tried Haggis.
Always fun. I have been catching up with your posts. The last time I went to Edinburgh I stayed with an old friend and watched a Scottish evening under the shadow of the castle. Pretty damned good. Obviously I drank a couple of single malts. Travel well. Thanks for bringing back a few memories.
Great video Ruth, I love getting the train for a day out in Edinburgh from Fife, especially when the fringe is on. You have done really well on your budget and the hostel was probably the cheapest you would get on a Friday night. You certainly keep fit when you’re in Edinburgh when you walk up all those hills to the castle and Arthur’s seat but that’s Edinburgh. Once again thank you for another great video.🏴
Another fabulous video Ruth - I love your insight into things. You did well, although that hostel sounds a bit intimidating. Best, looking forward to more videos - I love your sincerity. Cheers!!
Enjoying this from Edinburg Texas I like malted vinegar on my breaded fish, fries(chips), and crisps Love my chips the Canadian way, with brown gravy and cheese curds. Really LOVE Scottish Whiskey🥃 Looking forward to your next adventure.
You did pretty much everything we did when we visited in May 2018. There were no crowds, but it was also mid-week. We stayed at an Airbnb. Have you visited Pitlochry? That was our next stop. It's so beautiful there.
When we were visiting two years ago, we stayed in Rosslyn (in Rosslyn Castle, down the hill from the famous chapel). That wasn't economy, but I wonder if you could find better hostel or other economy lodging outside the city and bus in for less cost, net. Your stops brought back wonderful memories. Edinburgh is truly lovely. Have you done a trip to Islay? Since you like peated whiskey, that would make a great program, because there's much more there than the distilleries. We were there for nearly a week, and I would dearly love to return. Thanks for your program.
One of our favourite places! We met and got together there! Eeech that hostel... We recommend walking to the other side of Arthur's Seat and visiting The Sheep's Heid. A gorgeous pub!
We stayed in an apartment on the Royal Mile which you entered through a gated close (it just happened to be samwiched between 2 bar/restaurants, so that was great!) when we visited Scotland a fews years ago . We had our first whisky at a bar called The End of The World just a few blocks from our apartment. They had a nice selection of whiskys and the bar tender was really helpful in helping us figure out those that suited our taste (even on a night it was really busy). The Mile was a bit touristy (but, after all we were tourists), but we had a direct shot to Holyrood and also Auther's Seat (which we made it to the top of...not bad for a couple in their late 50's). We hit all of the major attractions (Edinburgh Castle defintely) and my wife also tried the haggis in a restauranut....she loved it! We had such a great time in Edinburgh.....everyone was really nice and accomadating...and I mean everyone....not used to that being from the States, which is a shame. My wife did get an eSIM (and I forget the name), and it was supposed to work anywhere in Europe....well, it didn't. We trekked all around town trying to find a phone store to get help finding one that worked (which we did). They told us the eSIM we purchased was a good one, but after BRexit, they started limitiing service in the UK...which we weren't told about. At any rate, a small bump on the road of an other wise great time. We DID spend more then £100, though 😉We both plan to return. We also really liked the Highlands and Glasgow. Scotland is awesome!
I've been three times. Stayed from 9 days to almost 4 full weeks on one visit. There is so much to do and see, and I love it. I've become quite "homesick" for Scotland. I was last there in 2018.
One of my maternal 2 x great-grandfatherswas stationed at Edinburgh Castle in 1857 with the 34th Regiment of foot. My paternal grandfather was born and raised in the south side of Edinburgh, below Arthur's Seat. I went to Edinburgh once with a friend but we spent most of our short stay in the National Archives of Scotland researching her complex family history. We also went to the Office of the Lord Lyon. It was brilliant.
I'm watching your UA-cam channel because the collaboration with Shota is very interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing the nostalgic places in England. I'm from Japan.
Hi Ruth, I visited Edinburgh a few years ago and it was very interesting, but yes, expensive for the touristy things to do...I went to the military tattoo in the castle, and it was quite memorable, and I was glad I had my motorcycling rain clothes on! Thank you for another great and interesting video my friend!
Another wonderful vlog Ruth. I was last in Edinburgh in 2019, at this time of year & the weather was the same as in your video. This brought back some lovely memories from that trip. Gorgeous place. Even on a budget, it's critical to include some whisky! 😅 Oh, as an Aussie, I pronounce it as Edin-bra... It is certainly far less elegant than how the Scottish pronounce it! I also did a ghost tour & that was great. Really enjoyed that Ruth. See you on the next one. 😊
Thanks, Ruth. Edinburgh is a magical place. Of all the difficult challenges and potential scary situations you have taken on, this might be toughest. Be well.
I really enjoyed this video. I live about 40 minutes away from Edinburgh by train, but only visit about twice a year. It was good to see it from a fellow Scots point of view. Thank you Ruth.
Great video Ruth, the Johnnie Walker experience is amazing, your get three drinks, a tour on the history and also a live show, they also have a fantastic roof top bar. Thank you for all your very enjoyable content.
Great video! My wife and I have been to Edinburgh a few times in the last few years and we can’t wait to go again! Holyrood Distillery is really wonderful and should be on anyone’s itinerary! We attended a Mash Up there with family and it was a blast!

I flew out of Edinburgh on Sunday, my car is still there (hopefully). We stayed at the Premier Inn at Livingston (just down the road).... The night there cost more than the £100 limit. Great video.
I love the beautiful grey stone that is so prevalent in these views of Edinburgh. We've never lived in a particularly rainy place, not sure how we'd do long term. We'd so love to see it someday.

Thank you so much. A beautiful lady showing us around the most beautiful city in the British Isles. I installed software in a famous newspaper in Edinburgh and spent quite a lot of time there. I loved it. Shuttling between Edinburgh and Glasgow for weeks on end.
GREAT VIDEO AND BRILLIANT IDEA AND GREAT EDIT 👏🏻
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for your video. I really enjoy your cheerfulness and positivity. Keep up the good work.
Edinburg is our #1 destination when we go to Europe and this video is very helpful to understand and plan the budget and itinerary . Thanks so much!🤩
Thank-you for taking me along on your journeys. Stay safe.
I was going to say the same thing. I saw the Stone of Destiny on opening weekend. And it was free to see it.
I saw the Stone of Scone in Perth museum this summer; it's set in an installation with a beautiful animated story that explains of the history of the stone
Thanks for sharing the updated location. It shows who didn't wait in those lines at Edinburgh castle... 😂
Steve.
I think I would give the hostel a miss, definitely not for me,well done Ruth for giving it a try
Hey Ruth! I have have been watching your channel for quite a while and enjoy them for the scenery, history, excellent detail and narration! You are very pleasant on camera with a good sense of humor! Looking forward to more of your adventures.
Haggis has been banned in the USA since the wild haggis was listed as an endangered species. (Most haggis eaten in Scotland these days, are farmed).
I read that it was because of a ban on sheep's lungs being included in food because stomach contents can be expelled into the lungs when they're slaughtered. I don't think there's such a thing as a wild haggis species... :)
🤩
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I hope you’re having a laugh
It's hilarious just how many people I've met that actually believe that! One guy even made a tongue in cheek video of him out hunting wild haggis and some folk thought it was real.
I really enjoyed the whole tour, your videos are very educational and I really got a sense of what it might be like to visit the city. Thank you for the great tour of Edinburgh Castle, the drone footage of the castle and surrounding areas and just the regular footage of walking around the castle and the hustle. As someone from the US it makes me feel much more secure when I visit to know a little of what to expect. Fantastic tour overall!!!
Love Edinburgh, the Castle and the old town haunted pubs. 🍻👻
I agree!
I live on Teesside and my favourite place is Liverpool. My second place is Manchester, and my third place is Edinburgh🏴
I wish I'd seen your video before I went to Edinburgh, last month, Ruth!
Anyway, I really enjoyed your video and am working my way through your other videos, all of which have been great and inspired me to visit other parts of our lovely country! I'm so glad I have found your channel!
Edinburgh looks so beautiful... thank you for sharing!!!💙🤍💙
A good 'blocker' for hostels (or even I shared a room with a family member who is a tremendous snorer) is a Bluetooth headband. I just put white noise on it and slept like a baby all night. My head is small so the headband also covered my eyes.
Good video, Ruth; thanks. Your sister-in-law's pronunciation is spot on.
I'm sure she will be happy to know!
I pronounce Edinburgh the same way too. Good to know it's correct. ❤
I actually had a better night of sleep in the tent on St. Kilda and that is saying something!
Same here for Arthur's Seat! Each time I had an injury which kept me from climbing. Not getting any younger either 🙄
Well done Ruth, I love Edinburgh packed full of history, such a buzz about the place. Loved your video. 🥰👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
so my Whiskey story on a visit.
Whisky.😉
Thanks for sharing more details on this
👍from Teesside Middlesbrough England . 🏴
Who wants lung-free haggis?
Sheep’s pluck.
Cannie beat a roll n haggi 🏴
I visited Edinburgh Castle in 1986 when I was 19 years old and it was not even close to being as busy as it was when you went. We practically had it to ourselves. I would love to visit it again. Love your channel!
Also visited Edinburgh castle in 1986. Right. It was not that busy. I stood in St. Margaret’s chapel alone.
walk to the next bus or tram stop and you won't have to pay the full airport fare,-saves about £3-4 and is just a 5 minute walk away
I AGREE, also I would have cheated and had a fish wrapped seperately
Plus a meally pud, I'd have snuck a mutton pie in the afternoon.
Thanks for sharing all your tips too, very helpful for others! I’ll check out that breakfast spot next time!
When Ruth talks about whiskey, she talks with a happy face. thank you for showing me around Edinburgh
I think I'm just not used to the crowds haha!
Traveled solo to Edinburgh back in January 2023. This video made me smile because it was like I was back there again! Thank you! Also I actually also toured the Auchentoshan distillery, so it was fun to see it mentioned!
Great to hear!
Aside from a park bench, the cheapest overnight accommodation might be the night buses that used to do circular routes from the city centre to the suburbs. In my student days I used them for getting home after a night out and there were _always_ people fast asleep on them, just passing the hours away! 😂
You did well, Ruth! Edinburgh is definitely pricey these days. Scotland has become such a massive destination for tourists recently. Crazy!
So busy with tourists!
That was a fun idea. I learned from your video, spend my money on whiskey and not a hostel😁
Thanks so much Ruth🏴
Edinburgh is wonderful, I’ve been twice and it’s good to see it with you!! The smell of whisky is all over Edinburgh, ha!!
Aww you did soo well!!! When I saw that title I had a wee giggle and genuinely didn’t think you’d managed to do so much. I love Edinburgh so much! Thanks for another great video 🖤🖤🖤
Thank you so much!!
Thanks!
Thank you. That’s very kind!
This was so interesting to watch! I actually feel like you did a decent amount of things considering the budget!
Everything gets quickly amazing with your stunning and pretty good style of talking with your most amazing charming personality so all credit goes to you for this.
Stay blessed.
Take care of you where ever you move plz because you are so precious to me.
❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤
You recently inspired me to visit Scotland. So, beginning of October I booked my cheap flight from Germany to Edinburgh. I cannot believe we were in the same city at the same time. :D
Were you staying in the same lovely accommodation as me? 😂
@@ruthaisling I have to admit, that I did splurge on my accomodations and rented a room in the Motel One on Cockburn Street. Which is a lovely area.
Glad you enjoy the videos! Thanks for watching!
Thanks
Thanks very much! ❤
Hi Ruth, another lovely informative video, being from 'Auld Reekie' its nice to see that nothing has changed, (except prices) thank you for the grand tour. It has been many years since I left , however it was always Salt and Vinegar. Incidently tap water is also very good. I notce that you are optimistic with the sun-glasses. ha ha.
You did that with such enthusiasm for a city you know so well
I enjoyed it and I have to say the sleeping accommodations were a challenge in itself
Brilliant job Ruth hen 😎
It is expensive and I would avoid a dorm room!
Truly, bill
It's actually an Irish name and comes from Ruth's mother who is from Dublin.
Glad you enjoyed Edinburgh! 🥃
Cheers!!
Enjoying this from Edinburg Texas
I like malted vinegar on my breaded fish, fries(chips), and crisps
Love my chips the Canadian way, with brown gravy and cheese curds.
Really LOVE Scottish Whiskey🥃
Looking forward to your next adventure.
It was brilliant.
another of your marvelous reports. Thank you very much, looking forward to the next one !
Thank you for this really interesting video. Lovely to see where you can save money, and perhaps where it is worth splashing out (accommodation!)
A gr8 look around the town Ruth.
Hopefully I will get over there and go visit the ancesters ghost's at the Sinclair Castle ruin.
Great video Ruth. Very informative and atmospheric. I wonder if Airbnb might be the answer to a more affordable accommodation.
Interesting video! Thanks. No sugar coating and loads of great ideas.
Glad you liked it!
Thanks, Ruth. Edinburgh is a magical place. Of all the difficult challenges and potential scary situations you have taken on, this might be toughest. Be well.
Haha maybe, but I did have a great time!
Must try it sometime, sounds like you get your money's worth!
Great video! My wife and I have been to Edinburgh a few times in the last few years and we can’t wait to go again! Holyrood Distillery is really wonderful and should be on anyone’s itinerary! We attended a Mash Up there with family and it was a blast!
Great video Edinburgh looks epic 👌 best wishes from Ireland.
Hi Ruth, so far all your videos have made me want to visit the places. But I don't enjoy these overcrowded tourist hotspots either. Nevertheless, as always, it was very interesting and it was a pleasure to accompany you. Best wishes, Burkhard
You can't beat staying in youth hostels all ages and different cultures 😊it's exciting and adventurous and more real love Edinburgh Ruth had lot's of great times there 😀
Thanks so much for sharing your Edinburgh challenge, recommendations & things to do tips. I really enjoy your channel and hope one day to join you on one of your group trips. I couldn't make your first one but hope you'll do more. Best wishes to you & followers.
I flew out of Edinburgh on Sunday, my car is still there (hopefully). We stayed at the Premier Inn at Livingston (just down the road).... The night there cost more than the £100 limit. Great video.
Fabulous video of beautiful Edinburgh. 🏰 Thanks for the wee tour. 🤗✌️
I love the beautiful grey stone that is so prevalent in these views of Edinburgh. We've never lived in a particularly rainy place, not sure how we'd do long term. We'd so love to see it someday.
Hi Ruth Edinburgh is my favourite city and am from Falkirk next time I am in Edinburgh I will try the whisky 🥃 bar. Thanks again Ruth and keep your good work going 👍❤
Oh nice! I visited your town recently!
A couple of m8s and I climbed Arthur's seat in the 90s
Amazing views and 2 of us fell covered in mud coming back down. Good laugh 😃
Enjoyed that Ruth. Am going to Edinburgh in December for the Christmas Market. Been to Edinburgh a few times one of my favourite cities. Hoping to get to Portobello beach this time.
Oh lovely! I’ve never been to Portobello, I heard there is a beachside sauna there!
