How to Replace a Shattered iPhone 6 Screen

  • A complete video guide to replacing a shattered iPhone 6 screen from start to finish. A replacement display should cost a fraction of having the repair done in store, links to buy replacements have been provided below and typically cost $15 to $35 depending on the quality and supplier. This repair is fairly easy to do and should take you around 30 to 60 minutes to complete.
    Make sure you keep all the screws really well organised when removing them so that you know which ones go where. Also be careful with the ribbon cables, they are quite fragile and are easy to tear.
    Purchase Links:
    White Display & Tool Kit - amzn.to/3cZQWpS
    Black Display & Tool Kit - amzn.to/2E2FewW
    Better Quality Tool kit - amzn.to/2Modm6v
    Good luck with the repair and let me know how it goes in the comments section below.

    Your video was fine until you left out replacing the new screen step and you should have showed step by step instructions instead of interrupting it with it being finished. One minute you’re putting the part on and then it clicks to the part being on. Would be nice to see how you fastened each part back on the screen completely. I realize people have a short attention span, but there are those with patience to see exactly how things are done. It was helpful and more helpful than those I’ve seen. Thanks for posting!

    Great video! A few small steps missing, but with a little smarts and some patience I got it done. I add this little nugget. If the iphone doesn't come on after you put it all back together you may have to reset the battery/phone by unhooking the battery. So, in order to have to open the phone back up I recommend unhooking the battery while you have the phone apart. It'll save you a few minutes.

    4:25, that silver plate under that connector. Does it matter when it doesn't keep sticking on the actual connector when you take that plate off? (The connector is not broke or anything) ?? Thanks

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  7 років тому +1

      It shouldn't be a problem. The connectors snap together anyway and the cover plates generally hold them in place. As long as you can assemble it correctly, it shouldn't be an issue if it is a bit loose.

    i´ve just replaced my wife´s iphone 6 screen. Before closing the screen I
    tried everything was working perfectly, the only thing that wasn´t
    working was the touch id (i didn´t know how to fix it and it was not so
    important so i left it that way), I even tried if the proximity sensor
    was working and it worked so I turned it off and finish putting
    everything together but when I turned it on i realized the proximity
    sensor was not working. Do you know how can i fix those issues? i think I
    was very careful and didn´t break a thing

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  7 років тому +2

      Hi Playtech, there are only really two reasons why either of those items wouldn't be working. One is that the ribbon cable is damaged but as long as you've been careful and haven't bent or squashed the cables that shouldn't be the case. The second is the plug in connectors are either not seated correctly or terminals on them are damaged/dirty. Try fiddling with the plugs first, u-nclip them, wipe them down with a pad with rubbing alcohol and then re-clip them. If that doesn't work then check the actual ribbon cables for damage.

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  6 років тому

      Hi Joe. It sounds like either something inside the phone is not seated correctly or the screen is not clipped down properly. Try removing the screws and the LCD panel, check that the battery is in properly and not resting on a ribbon cable or clamp, check any clamps or ribbon cable connectors you remove and then replace the screen. Clip it in at the top and then work your way down the sides clipping it in. Finally, put the screws back and secure them. This should solve the problem!

    Just wondering about the pink plastic cover on the new assembly. I saw that you left it on. were you supposed to remove that??

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  7 років тому

      MrBat000 It's a really thin plastic film, not sure if it should be removed but it doesn't seem to affect the assembly or operation.

    Help! Can you tell me what I did wrong? I did everything you did have the same tools. When I get to connecting the cables to check if the power works it won't turn on. I think I mixed up some of the screws could that be why? I don't know. If you know why it wouldn't be turning on that would be awesome.

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  7 років тому

      Hi Jay,
      Sorry to hear you haven't come right. I doubt that mixing up the screws would cause the screen not to come on, the pieces would just not fit that well together anymore. I would say that most likely one of the connectors is not seated properly or not contacting properly. Try reversing your steps and taking it all apart again and then putting it back together and see if that helps. If that doesn't work, try fitting the old screen again just to check that nothing is wrong with the motherboard. If the old screen still works then you probably just have a faulty replacement screen, this is not that uncommon. Just send it back to the supplier and request a new one, they are usually pretty happy to help.

    • @MichaelKlements

      Hi Luna, the pixel quality is still as good. The better quality screens are just built with better quality components and so would probably last longer. There is no lag with a new screen.

    HI ive done repairs like this before. It looks like you replaced the LCD included with the touch screen glass & not just the touch screen glass on the front. Is that right? Is it possible to buy just the front glass & replace that if the old phone's LCD is still working? Usually the glass on its own is cheaper. But can the touch screen glass be replaced on its own or do you have to buy a replacement LCD included in the repair kit? Thanks

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  4 роки тому

      Chrissy Watkins yes it is possible to do. You’ll find that it is really really difficult to remove the old glass without damaging the LCD panel and it’s difficult to put the new glass on without any bubbles forming. It can definitely be done and I’ve attempted it before with some level of success but it’s really not worth the frustration to save a few dollars.

    • @Shona632
      @Shona632 4 роки тому

      @@MichaelKlements Thanks for your reply. I've decided to replace the whole LCD/digitizer & not just the glass. It will be easier & they are cheap enough but I don't want to end up with a low quality one. There are so many 'Non-original & Repaired or Refurbished' screens out there. I think OEM is no guarentee that it is of the best quality either. But you get what you pay for. Any recommendations on where to shop for a good one for an A1687 model? I've checked out eBay & Trade Me (n.z) Thanks again.

    • @Shona632
      @Shona632 4 роки тому

      @@MichaelKlements Yeh I have done just a glass replacement on a Samsung in the past & as you said it's not easy to separate the glass from the LCD as some phones use LOCA glue which is cured under UV light (and its a hassle as I had to use fishing twine to divide the LCD from the digitizer & then use isopropyl alcohol to clean the lcd) The LCD is so fragile it doesnt take much to damage it! So it's easier to do a complete replacement. My question was more related to whether or not it is possible to replace just the glass on the iphone 6S Plus model. But I've decided to do a complete replacement incl the LCD. Thanks again

    I purchased the iPhone screen replacement online with the camera, and earpiece already installed. I just disconnected the three connectors and then put the new screen back in with everything on it. Why does my front camera and ear piece not work?

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  5 років тому

      Verky, you’ll also need to move your home button across to retain the Touch ID functions. As for your problem, that shouldn’t be happening. Try replugging in all of the connectors, if the camera and earpiece still do not work then you’ve likely got a faulty replacement or you may have damaged the ribbon cable or connector to that assembly as they’re both in the same assembly with the same connector.
