AFL - Bill Belichick (full)

- In the 2009 season, which marked Belichick's 35th consecutive year in the NFL and the Patriots' 50th Anniversary season, NFL Films documented sides of the three-time Super Bowl-winning head coach few have ever seen. While his unmatched record as a head coach makes him no stranger to the NFL record books, Belichick made history in the production of A Football Life by becoming the only coach to ever be wired for sound for an entire NFL season.
This team had no business making the playoffs, but Belichick & Brady dragged the team to a Division Title. That Saints game was one of the worst games of the BB/TB Era
Yup exactly and the colts game was a dagger to the season that i knew they were not making it far cause of them blowing leads. Even if they won the wild card they were losing on the road.
my redskins beat em once lol and the game when the ravens murdered them was pretty bad too. i think the next time the redskins played them after winning (i think we were there only loss in a 15-1 season or some shit like that) they beat 52-6 or some shit the following game
@@andrewwolf4963yeah they did in 2003…in week 4…Patriots next loss was in Week 8…of 2004
His humility walking through the old giants stadium really gets me. That’s how you become the greatest. Always working your ass off, studying your craft, admitting and working your mistakes, and staying humble.
My friend's dad was an all time great in lacrosse. Belichick came to a game that had a ceremony for him in 2010s. Belichick started asking a bunch of questions to him about lacrosse and strategy. My friend was there and was thinking omg he is asking my dad questions about sports.
It doesn't hurt to always look for an edge, even if they call you a cheat.
I can Bill Belichick felt weird losing those two Super Bowls to Tom Coughlin and the Giants and knowing that on that 1990 title team that Coughlin was also the wide receivers coach and Bellichick was also defensive cooridnator. He said that he always felt welcomed back by the Wellington and Mara families. ua-cam.com/video/GXFfVf-7Itg/v-deo.html
@@neilfosteronlyhis daughter is a lacrosse coach at some college in the north east, she played ncaa lacrosse also. I'm sure he didn't make it to a lot of games back then, so asking your friends dad questions is probably turning those lacrosse defensive gears...lol
LOL Belichick said the only thing he could cheer for in Philadelphia is the national anthem

He ain't lying.
That Wally Pipp Wes Walker bit 😂😂😂 Way to compete 😂😂
he can have it😂😂😂
I'm trying to tell if he's, what an asshole or what but it really did signal the end of the Welker Era in New England. Can't believe being surrounded by Brady and Manning, yet never won a ring. Damn
dude can win 5 superbowls but cant change the clock on his vehicle

If you want to understand why Jamie Collins was traded mid-season last year, the answer is right here in 2009, the lowest point in the Patriots Belichick era. The team chemistry was horrible, the culture of hard work and preparation was in tatters. Belichick wants no part of that in any way again; every player is accountable to everyone else on the team, and if their actions on the field don't back that up, they are gone. Forget the talent level.
Perhaps an untold story in light of the seemingly continuous dominance of the Brady/Belichick Patriots, is the resurgence of the Pats following 2009, and how Belichick and Brady both overcame huge obstacles to elevate their greatness to the unprecedented level we see today in 2017.
I agree. Brady's comeback year was memorable, for mostly the many horrid happenings. Lose to Rex and a rookie QB in week 2, lost a close one in Denver, 4th and 2, New Orleans smackdown in the superdome. They just crawled into the playoffs, and they had their (rear) handed to them by the Ravens. Such a great disappointment for all the hype they put in for Brady's return, and to have a lackluster year. Some people even thought it was the end of the BB/TB era after that season.
Jamie Collins has since been back....twice.
Lol
@@MattProtrains Welker torn ACL
wow it's awesome to see bill smiling
watch the video ... Bill Belichick the voice of genius... a great look at the man
A true leader of men.
15:27-15:55 is classic Belichick. Treating Brady like some random quarterback.
You gotta keep order in the locker room. Everybody gets the same treatment.
His voice, omg
Wish we could have had this documentary footage filmed during the patriots near undefeated season or any one of the super bowl wins. The undefeated season would be really interesting to see how bill handled winning so much as knowing what a good coach he is, I’m sure he never allowed being undefeated relieve pressure on his team and would be really cool to see how bill handled his team to make sure they didn’t get to in over their heads with success
The first time I seen him choke up 21:45
"it still goes through us" bill sounded like he wanted to laugh at that lol
R.I.P Gil Santos
Indeed! I miss that guy.
Great listening to him WBCN
He died???
@@brandonbaugham177 yeah he passed in 2018 on his 80th birthday.
He talks to kraft the same way he talks to the media.
19:55 Something tells me that Parcels didn’t use the phrase “screwed up.” I’m sure it was a little more New Jersey-like.
The punk thing at the end with poor Junior Seau is beautiful. Two great men.
Bill is lord of the RINGS
Bill talks to Kraft like he's a practice squad player 💀💀💀
great coach with an equally great qb...Brady and Belichick...hard working winners....much preparation...success.
And lots of cheating...
Belichick takes a gamble and fails once, general public cries "bad coaching, fire him, he's an idiot." Belichick takes a gamble and succeeds multiple times, "Greatest coach of all time, give him a raise, he's a genius." SMH
“Shut the f&$k up Mason”
57:47 only time you'll ever see Billy B getting SON'D lol
The NFL LORD OF THE RINGS! Love it! Love ya Bill! Met him after the perfect regular season! Talked to me and a few other ppl for like 2 minutes! Made fun of the one guy! So you continue to DO YOUR JOB and make great content!
29:30 best in game moment ^^
If Belichick went for that 4th and 2 in 2019 instead of 2009, no one would have batted an eye
59:07 : Apparently John Goodman used to run the Pats offence
i hope that golfing footage was some course he built in his backyard lol cuz he was wearing jeans and a hoodie like some backwoods horse pasture par 3 course

Was this season like a throwback jersey season or something? Seems like the patriots wore the throwback unis more than their normal ones.
I like looking at the Mayock draft predictions at the bottom back then just to see how the players faired. At 26:13 it’s 1. Geno Smith 🗑, 2. EJ Manuel 🗑... all the QBS didn’t accomplish much.
Mike Glennon had a few bright spots
That Richard Seymour deal was so STUPID
Hes 70 and still coaching.
'hat and t-shirt game' division champs'.....and 8 more straight to follow
That ‘09 team got down 14-0 and folded like a cheap suit. The ‘14 team got down 14-0 against the Ravens too, twice.
No Welker.
The story of Wally Pipp and Lou Gehrig that Belichek told Wes Welker went right over Welker's head. I loved it when Bill said afterward...''Way to compete''. Of course, he was being sarcastic.
Edelman was taking over..
Welker bashed his brains in going over the middle, never won w/the Pats but did with Peyton in Denver.
@@moriordan85 actually he never won with Denver. Went to the SB in 2013 w/Denver but they got bodied and he left the year after, the year before Denver won.
Seeing belichick tell brady to calm down and step into his throws is amazing lol. Bradys voice goes all high like hes in high school again

That was hilarious
oh that one lol
Nothing beats Belichick screaming at his defense when they give up a meaningless touchdown late in a blowout of the Jaguars. This is one of my favorite clips of the coach because I believe it reveals a lot of what makes him successful--play 60 minutes. Most coaches couldn't care less if their defense relaxed a little late in a blowout, but most coaches don't win Super Bowls.
Damn well said.
It's about always reinforcing the standard and never letting complacency and bad habits slowly trickle in no matter the circumstances.
blowout games in every sport are difficult, how do you keep your guys focused and engaged, on top of that, treating it like live practice to fine tune your own tactics and plays. You want your guys to still be able to execute. Just because it doesn't matter in this game, doesn't mean it won't matter next game.
"..most _________ dont win.." is exactly right..only so many get to join the #1st%..& its not a fvckin lottery or who you know like most idiots think..its doing the right work @ the right time💥
He's washed with no brady
"You're the best free safety that's ever played this game that I've seen"

Real talk!

The sky is also blue. But it's nice to hear Bill make it known haha
Anybody else here in 2019 when this man has 8 rings?
u did everytime he wins another ring he changes his boats name pretty cool he is thee best coach ever as long with tom being the best QB ever
My feed just came up, can't believe I missed it from years earlier.
Nice to hear B.B. outside of his normal, "say nothing" press conferences.
Im watching this right after Brady and Gronk went to Tampa
THE BEST CHEATER OF ALL TIME. PERIOD.
Great game coach, average GM, terrible human being
To hear Brady and Belicheck talk about how great Ed Reed is shows how much they respect their opponents and that there is the key to beating them
Ed Reed is the greatest safety of all time and its not even close. He also was amazing as a returner and a kick or punt blocker.
Just the GOATnof all GOATS.
Respect
Ed reed might be the greatest saftey of all time. Challange me?
Belicheck always loved Ed Reed he knows a goat when he sees one
Proof that scouts don't know shit about drafting, look at all those rankings per position at the bottom of the screen lol.. smh
Louie Franco that was my takeaway from this entire vid, too. Hopkins T-5 among WRs available, and behind Justin Hunter, lol.
They do, more 1st round picks go on to be good than any other point in the draft.
Yes they do make mistakes and some players fall through the cracks.
Many of the scouts can't even agree with themselves. The term "experts" is overplayed.
yet they pay them a cool 600k or a cool mill to do something that i could do after playing madden for 20 years and playing football etc .... meanwhile my wife takes care of covid patients and makes 60k and i spend upwards of 15 hours with a customer showing them houses and filing proper paperwork and in the end make zero dollars unless that person decides to buy
21:50 he is almost chooke out remembering his years in the Giants "stablishing my coaching career" ..."this is a great organization" ...."dammed, I spent a lot of hour in that room" (the stadium was about to be demolished and remodeled) ..."I loved it here, I love it here" .....he really remembers his beginnings and the Giants with love.
A little bittersweet remembering how Bill Parcells kept him down.
Seeing belichick tell brady to calm down and step into his throws is amazing lol. Bradys voice goes all high like hes in high school again
Not so much his time with the browns 🤣
That’s funny when he calls Wes Welker Wally Pipp compared to Julian Eldeman 😂 It worked out.
Charles Bray that was classic 😂😂😂
Of course it did, Bill is a fucking genius
He and Welker were not friends AND everyone gets replaced within the system. Troy Brown preceded Welker. All undrafted, tough and smart.
punt returns arent a fun buisness good way to shorten your carrer
The parcels tearing into heaters after racquetball story makes me die laughing every time
I can't believe he allowed this, but I like it.
Kraft bribed him
9:29 once again Belichick proving a 7th round pick from freaking Kent State can be the best receiver
A qb from Kent state at that
Not a Pats fan, but love Belichick... An absolutely awesome coach... He don’t play games ...
1:10:15 Is that Gostkowski, Brady, Edelman, Hoyer, Faulk and Moss + RKK all in one frame?
29:30 Savage Bill. "Can you look at the scoreboard?" LMFAO
This is gonna sound weird but one of my favorite parts of this whole thing was looking at the bottom seeing all the NFL stars that were in college at the time. Jesus bless y’all.
I just seen the top 5 rated qbs that year and I almost puked a lil bit lmfao
one of the best parts of watching old college championships is hearing familiar names and they'll say so and so will be a star and i've never heard of them.
Would love to see another based on the last ten years after this season on this one.

Watching Bill react that way about the Giants makes me wonder if when he retires from coaching, would he go be the G.M. of the Giants?
29:34 - "F*ck you, Mason." Haha.

God I miss Gil Santos. Dude was truly the voice of the Patriots
greatest voice Ive ever heard, couldnt fit football any better
PaulAllen is great for us with the Vikings
Bill burned the shit out of welker 😂
1:02:00 is a conversation of pure winners, it took them just over 5 years to get back to winning Super Bowls from this conversation and then look at what they done in the 4 year stretch (2015-2019) persistence pays off.
This was probably the worst year in the Brady/Belichick era.
2002 9-7 team with possubly the worst run defense in history and almost no running game is close...but this season is worse just for the malconents quitters and idiotic bellichick decisions (trading seymour was way wotse then Molloy branch welker or mankin decisions, and c
fourth and 2 indy killed the season)
Scott Aznavourian I know 2002 was only 9-7 but expectations weren’t as high. It was only Brady’s second year as a starter and we weren’t sure what kind of QB he was gonna be yet. Also the way they lost games in 2009 was worse.
+kraken589 i agree 2009 is worse
2002 was rough as well but I agree. This 2009 team was not right. Bill even says it to Tom during the saints game. Could definitely be the worst team of this era
+Anthony Hutchins the thing i hate most about is i still think to myself 'this is the best team they could put together for bradys comeback season?'
Those old school Broncos uniforms has to be the worst I've ever seen even worse than the Steelers striped prison bumblebee uniforms
He modeled himself after Paul Brown
“Some people struggle with math, some people struggle with the English language. I struggled with both of them.” - Bill Belichick
37:00 will never forget that sunday going out and all of a sudden it was snowing...figured wouldnt be much offense that day lmao
The only great moment out of this year, and I remember that day. Plus those Red Jerseys made it more memorable.
Now we all see that Brady was the driving force of this team, not Bill Belichek.
Did you say Yes sir? Or did you say yah sure.
It’s crazy listening to Belichick talking to Welker about Edelman possibly taking his job one day and surpassing him sure enough he did.
The most inconsistent year in the Brady/Belichick era. Could have easily gone 12-4 or even 13-3 if not for the Broncos, Colts, or Texans games
Lmfao
Bill: “Ed just lets the receivers just right past him. Doesn’t even flinch just reads the quarter back.”
Tom: “Yup… he’s always moving”
Bill: *is Tom even listening…*

Whatever A Hole . I’ve only been doing work for 5 years
Can I rest for a preseason game
and if Eddlemen is good enough then I guess it’s His .
Bill is right though. That’s why You always show up and Do Work .
I can't believe this video only has 170K. Not a patriots fan but damn is this good.
“Why don’t you shut the fuck up!” “Would you look at the scoreboard?!” 😂😂
Bill: Look the one to Maroney
Tom: It was right in his hands (high voice)
Bill: it was over his head
Tom: oh that one
I believe this is the only time I ever see Bill get choked up on camera. I live in an area where there is a split between Giants and Patriots fans. I have always been a Patriots fan but have much respect for the Giants franchise. Parcells started it in 1993, then Belichik brought everything he learned during his time with the Giants and found his own way starting in 2000. Why do you think the two Patriots/Giants Super Bowls' were so great? Two coaches from the Parcells coaching tree going at it and literally one or two plays separated the Patriots from another two Super Bowls. I see it as karma giving back to the Giants for what was taken from them. As much as they hurt to see, I am grateful for so many intense and memorable moments during this era of Patriots football.
I still laugh every time I see Bill pestering Welker about Wally Pipp after Edelman takes a punt to the House. Bill had decided in that moment that Welker and his contract were now dispensable. He was confident that Julian could do the job, and he was right.
broooo 💀💀💀 that interaction at 29:30 had me DYYYYING 😂😂😂 no beating around the bush, just straight up „shut the fuck up“ 😂
So Surprised he agreed to do a documentary since he hates press conferences, lol.
Even more surprised that ha has done a couple other documentaries as well. Plus this is longer than most football documentaries that ive ever watched. I watch "a football life " and it was first time ive seen him smile, lol
He doesn't hate the media, he hates stupid questions. Im not surprised he did this, he loves history and football. This is a good way for him to add to football history.
og jenny he likes NFL Films he hates all other media except for his friend Chris Berman. That’s basically it. He also knows everyone at NFL Films and occasionally spends time at their New Jersey office watching tape
One of my biggest regrets is never playing football. I didn’t understand the beauty of the game back then but now I wish I played when I was recruited by coaches but my dumbass told them I don’t want to play a ball game if I’m not going to touch the ball during the game. Little did I know just how amazing this sport is all around and how much fun I could have had playing linebacker or tackle as all the coaches in high school basically begged me to play because of my size and wrestling background.
Ravens fan. Patriots v ravens is one of the underrated rivalries of all time.
But how can you hate this man? Or tom? They are GOATs.
Nothing but respect man. And rhey respected us. Ray and Ed man.
Still can’t believe Randy Moss never won a ring in his career. It’s just bad luck for him to have such a good team and QB but missing the ring by one damn year
I love “A Football Life” but usually they wait until a player / coach has retired.
It is almost 2022 and Coach is still doing it.
They will have to make another one about the greatest NFL coach in history when he finally retires.
5 touchdowns in 1 quarter of NFL. Sheeeeeeesh! I can't even do that in the game. 👊💥 59-0.

25:00 the respect for Ed Reed. Watching PBS American Masters & TED talk about Ed Reed from 2 legends

Vince Lombardi is by far and away a better coach than Bill Belichick. If you disagree then you are not informed enough.
Lombardi was asked to coach a high school basketball team prior to coaching football. He didn’t even know all the rules of basketball so he went to the library and checked out a rule book. He learned the game and coached that team to a championship. Best coach ever of any sport, any discipline. Straight up facts.
