I know right like especially considering that this woman’s first movie outside of musical theatre and she does this A lot of Hollywood executives are going to think twice before hiring her now Like she gets her first major film and suddenly she’s hot shit This is going to be her first and last Hollywood film. She’s going to be stuck in musical theatre for the rest of her life because nobody’s gonna want to hire her after something like this. Because if she’s acting like this in the public, I imagine how she acts during the professional setting. She’s probably super hard to work with. Especially how she says, staring down the barrel of a camera like it’s a heroic job
It's been said a few times already, but social media basically destroyed the star system. The classic concept of star has di3d since stars themselves are so eager to expose their personal issues in public for no good reason.
@@HelfirehydratransNot supporting her behavior here or anything but Wicked isn’t her first major movie outside of musical theater. “Harriet” where she acted as Harriet Tubman was a popular movie when it came out and was also played at my highschool auditorium for black history month a few years ago. But this should be her second major movie, which doesn’t make it too much different, and she’s currently self sabotaging but she does have some history in the industry besides Wicked so she probably doesn’t care much about how her words can impact this new movie since most studios care about experience and past works over social behavior, as seen with Amber Heard in Aquaman 2 when everyone wanted her recasted but she still stayed in the movie. I do agree with your points though!
As a black woman, when I first saw the poster, I was like "meh" like it's okay. When I saw the fan made one, i was like, "There it is, it can be better, but there it is." She's blowing this out of proportion. It's not a racism thing. Hardly ever is🙄
:) But the actress wanted everyone to see that the character was race-swapped, and (in her opinion) in the fan version it's less obvious. The idea was to destroy everything that was good, and when fans made it slightly closer to the good original it caused a predictable reaction.
That’s a gosh darn good question and I hate to tell you this, but I’ve got even more evidence to prove that you’re right about the fact that she’s trying to erase the wicked witch the west and basically play herself, one, she threatened to walk out of the project altogether, if the marketing team went with the iconic Broadway poster, which is what they wanted to do so they caved to her and gave her what she wanted, too, she requested that the wicked witch of West be given micro braids, which I am pretty sure is not the hairstyle that the wicked witch of the West has and she says that she is bringing her black experience to the role,, the wicked of the west is black Honey she’s green.

As a theater and film actress who is also a stickler about staying true to original content, I would be OVER THE MOON if a fan remade a film poster to look like the original like this!! To have such a negative reaction to this piece is so sad
What's even more crazy is that fact that, as a Broadway singer/actress, she should be more than used to not even having her actual face displayed on the musical posters, since those usually are more neutral so they are not affected by the changing of actors every now and then. She should've been way more humble about it.
6:45 I actually disagree with this. This fan edit, and Cynthia’s terrible response, actually will forever be attached to this movie. Many people have said they refuse to watch it now. So basically by doing this, she effed up her own legacy 😂
I remember an old interview with Cristina Ricci when she was in Sleepy Hallow and the official movie poster enhanced her bosom and she just laughed about it saying something like "Well, that'll at least draw the teenage boys to the theater." Times have changed so much.
I don’t think that’s the same as this. In this case the fans just wanted to tie the broadway poster with the film out of appreciation so Cynthia getting offended makes no sense. I’m glad Christina Ricci laughed at that but she would’ve had every right to be upset. She has, in the past, spoken about sexist experiences she had growing up in the industry so this is a terrible comparison.
I always thought she liked having more scenes and spending more time in the industry, because no matter how dirty Hollywood was, she preferred it to be around her cult leader Sociopathic dad@@Jay41
@Jay41 I think the point is that celebs used to roll with the punches and now they're offended by everything; even things that don't make sense. It seems to me that if you're putting yourself in the spotlight, you kind of have to accept that you're going to be criticized/nitpicked for every little thing. People used to just let it roll off, but now they're actively looking for things to be offended over. It's stupid.
@@chuiduma I actually think "accepting" that is a stupid, weak spined way of going about life. Standing your ground and advocating for yourself is good. Just because something is normal doesn't mean it should be okay, especially because if you're just quiet about that kind of stuff then what's to stop it from getting worse? First it's Christina Ricci's poster altering her body, then it's Emma Watson getting photographed under her skirt by paparazzi the second she turned 18. First it's Scarlett Johansson being photoshopped to have no waist and bigger breasts, then it's women with different bodies being seen and treated as lesser than and undesirable and feeling the need to get surgery on their body to the point where every female trying to get into the industry or simply feel more desirable is trying to look like the same exact bimbofied template. But Cynthia was undeniably wrong here lol she made this problem up in her head and did some crazy acrobatics to get there.
That Broadway poster is so iconic even people who have never, and will never, watch the play know that poster. They turned her into an icon, not erased her. More people need to learn to look at things from a non-hostile/victimization starting point.
That's so true! When I moved to London one of the first things that caught my attention was precisely this poster advertised in an underground station. I had no idea that there was a musical based on the Wizard of Oz. The image of the "bad witch" was very intriguing to me. I still haven't watched it nor listened to any of its songs, but the poster has stuck in my mind for 10 years. It's very iconic for the right reasons.
Would Cynthia try to hold us hostage to her being ‘victimized’ if the studio had generated this now-modified movie poster to begin with? I hesitate to believe that she’s an actress of such clout that she can dictate the content of a studio-generated and approved poster. Too bad that this personal tantrum over a creator modified poster (most likely done with the best intentions) has negatively affected the press junket preceding the film’s release. But then, maybe, she felt the need to bring more attention to herself?
Denzel Washington once said that making movies is not anything important or hard, it’s a privilege. The people working hard who deserve accolades are NOT actors and actresses. It’s the garbage men, the farmers, the nurses, the school teachers, the moms. You don’t hear any of them crying and complaining to the entire world “they erased me!” when their faces don’t get plastered across the internet to be seen and worshipped by hundreds of millions of people. I’m definitely not supporting this movie and it’s two selfish actresses.

According to my theater friends...Cynthia Erivo is not exactly liked among the members of Broadway because of her diva like attitude and main character syndrome. Apparently, she recently caused a scandal when someone suggested she play one of the Muses in Disney's Hercules (can't remember if it was in live action or if it was coming to Broadway) and Erivo got angry because she didn't want to be cast in an "ensemble role" or some other nonsense. Erivo better shape up and start acting like a nice person before she's stuck waiting tables or doing Uber like many Broadway actors are.
@@homodeus8713 for more context: it was a fan discussion about who would be good in what role (something a lot of musical theater fans do for fun), not a serious casting decision. A hypothetical “who would you cast?” Plus the Muses are far from just an ensemble role. They are a Greek choir. Their job is to comment on the action, introduce important characters, set the tone, etc. They serve an important narrative purpose to the plot. Finally, the issue most people take is her spoiled and childish attitude. If you act like a diva and insist on special treatment each and every time, people are not going to like you very much. People like that might be talented but they often cause more trouble than they’re usually worth and people will find ways to not have them around or even replace them. Show business is one of those arenas. Studios don’t want to deal with the fallout of an actor who runs their mouth or insists on treating the director, production staff, cast and crew badly. I do know who she is: a pampered and spoiled brat with musical talent who got lucky and now thinks she’s king of the castle and everyone else is a dirty rascal.

I have no problem with Black people playing the wicked witch or Glenda. I’ve heard clips of ladies with Cynthia‘s complexion. Play both roles on Broadway and they’ve been great. I’ve loved them. My problem is when you make it all about you your identity and completely through the story out the window, which is what Cynthia is doing here.

Absolutely correct.. born from Nigerian immigrant parents shot to fame after singing in the colour purple 2015..she shaves her head because she wants people to see her when she walks into a room... her words...eish.. some people dont realise how blessed they are.
Cynthia Erivo didn't "choose to look at the audience." She makes it sound like the poster was all her doing and that's unquestionably false. She's looking at the viewer because she was told to for that photo. And then of the dozen poses and looks they probably shot, the marketing team or art team or someone else that's not her selected that particular photo and pose to use for the poster. That's why it looks like that, not because Cynthia Erivo made decisions. She was directed by the photographer and likely the art direction team.
Unless of course she's indirectly admitting that they wanted to do it like the original poster and she had a hissy fit about not getting to show her full face.

Ohhh...that's a good one !!! 👍👍👍

To have such a negative reaction to this piece is so sad
Ikr Cynthia's is complaining 4 0 reason

You obviously don’t know who she is. If she’s singing, she’s not accepting and ensemble role - she respects her gift too much and so she should.
@@homodeus8713 for more context: it was a fan discussion about who would be good in what role (something a lot of musical theater fans do for fun), not a serious casting decision. A hypothetical “who would you cast?”
Plus the Muses are far from just an ensemble role.

No literally. She looks like Fiona😂😂😂
Shrek should be upset that you compared her to him...
that's what I thought lol
At first, I genuinely thought people were making demeaning edits or saying disrespectful things, I thought the edited poster was the actual one smh
These celebs really need to get over themselves
"wildest & most offensive thing I've seen" is my recent grocery receipts .... 🤨
That image of the movie poster is recognizable everywhere even if you have never watched Wicked. Everyone knows that image.
Absolutely correct.. born from Nigerian immigrant parents shot to fame after singing in the colour purple 2015..she shaves her head because she wants people to see her when she walks into a room... her words...eish.. some people dont realise how blessed they are.
This is the second time this week some Hollywood crybaby is complaining about something stupid.
Second? Have you not see all of the "Oh Kamala, I worship you. Save my Democracy, , I beg you."?
The AI poster fight had me ROFL. WTF?!
preview of the catfight scene
This commentary is on point to reality. Thanks for sharing this message.
She's absurd, her complaint is absurd.
'Down the barrel of the camera.'
It is impossible to satirize these people. Theyre comic creations.
Like most people in Hollywood
Cynthia Erivo didn't "choose to look at the audience." She makes it sound like the poster was all her doing and that's unquestionably false. She's looking at the viewer because she was told to for that photo. And then of the dozen poses and looks they probably shot, the marketing team or art team or someone else that's not her selected that particular photo and pose to use for the poster. That's why it looks like that, not because Cynthia Erivo made decisions. She was directed by the photographer and likely the art direction team.
and quite possibly a photoshop comp of several different shots
I can only add that none of the three German movie posters for Wicked feature that shot, because it looks bland…she has no expression in her face.
@@lynnm6413 People forget this, that posters used in international markets are almost always entirely different.
Unless of course she's indirectly admitting that they wanted to do it like the original poster and she had a hissy fit about not getting to show her full face.
@@SuperZezseems closer to the truth.
Being offended by something as trivial as this just screams privilege to me. I hope she gets a life.
They don't face any real oppression these days so they have to manufacture it.
This is the BEST take on this subject that I’ve seen on UA-cam or any video yet. So sick of other content creators tiptoeing around the subject/beating around the bush/sugarcoating it or even just plain kissing Cynthia’s a s s and pretending her reaction was NORMAL, even WARRANTED, heII even SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF-like girl what?! So sick of content creators and the media kissing celebrities butts all the time, some more than others… Just subbed!
Ability with Humility is beauty. Ability without humility is a liability.
No truer words were ever spoken. Excellent line!
I can't believe they didn't even try to create the original image. I've waited 20 yrs for this movie. I'm so worried it's going to be insanely bad.
CATS the musical was ruined. My hopes for Wicked are shot.
I'm right there with you. Les Mis was so atrocious I fear Hollywood is going to ruin this musical also.
@@ShariBonz Agreed!
@@ShariBonzI haven’t seen CATS because the trailers looked so bad… I am not sure if I will see Wicked. I don’t have much hope…
@@mariontheantiquarian7849 At this point, I'm scouring the internet to watch the original Wicked production.
That intro tho 😂
Amalaw & order has to be a recurring segment
I bet that fan regrets liking her after that.
Fan probably liked Wicked itself. Not her in particular.
That beginning with the law and order edit, was so good!!!
💯 so funny 😂
💯 so funny 😂
Amalaw and Order 😂 I was dying, she’s the best
To quote Sir Ian McKellen’s Magneto quote: “Once again, you think this is all about YOU.” Witch, please…
I ❤ Ian ..now that's an actor
the fanbase tried to embrace her and let her in on the in-jokes with open arms, and she feels victimized by that? what???
The whole promo tour of this film is so cringy, all the cast members cry everytime
