      If u want a good quality cheap gun buy Euro spray guns they around 200$ and the reason I have orange peel is because u need to regulate ur air pressure and try to lay out ur clear better tht way when U buff u would only have to take a few diets out always to minimize the dirts on ur clear wet ur floor around ur car and if u want to get better results block sand ur bindi and only primer the part where a repair was made also u can use a dealer to better hide the imperfections another thing if u have a compressor get a air powered d.a sander but tbh for a beginner car is not half bad💯💯

    A tip when spraying metallics is on the final color coat lay paint down like a spaz so the flakes will sparkle at all angles. Also be sure to ask your paint dealer what color of primer works best for the color you want. Primer can drastically change the final color of the car. He doesn't stress this enough but a paint job is only as good as the prep work. My autobody teacher always said look with your hands you will feel alot of imperfections you cant see. Take your time your literally creating a art piece and if you mess up no biggie you can always sand it down and correct it. 👍👍

    • @1_slow4.89
      @1_slow4.89 Рік тому

      also paints require a certain sealer that should be on the paint can, and yeah with metallics it's crucial to have even speed and distance and the final coat is a fast dusting to even it out the metallics so it won't look streaky.

  • @tellrowland2370
    @tellrowland2370 Рік тому +25

    My biggest recommendation is 2k clear. It will knock down on sooo much of the orange peel and dimpling. You can lay the final coat on almost wet so it levels out really well. It's a great help with home/garage jobs as it makes up for the lack of static filters and negative pressure flow.

    A+ for effort and taking the time to post. I would not stop spraying halfway down a pane. Start at the bottom so you can make sure you have coverage, then go all the way down the side while watching your overlaps. Also, keep your spray pattern dead on with the panel. Dont turn the gun sideways. Keep doin it, you're well on your way to pro status.

    If you want a smoother finish always use guide coat on the primer then sand down with 500 grit. The base coat will lay out much nicer to avoid the the orange peel. Good vid tho 👍🏼

    I've done a few garage paint jobs and I'm getting ready to help my son paint a foxbody convertible. When you clean the garage the first time I would use a leaf blower, a latter, and a big shop fan. A good hour of blowing out the garage from top to bottom will prevent dust from falling on the paint. It's a pain, but well worth the time.

    Hey I know this is an old video but I strongly suggest not washing a car with water when you have filler exposed. At my shop we’ll typically used a solvent based cleaner to prep for primer then wash after sanding primer. Body filler absorbs water and can cause many issues

  • @backyardbogan3169

    Hey mate nice effort 👌 one thing to keep in mind is never wet the body filler!! It's very porous and if there's any water left in it before you prime or paint, you'll have big issues down the track. Also if you block your primer out, then finish the final sand in a higher grit like 500 or 600 for metallic paint, you'll get a better finish 👍 keep up the good work

    The reason you want to scratch/sand the original paint is to give the new paint something to grab on to. I wouldn't reccomend painting on top of old paint without sanding, your paint will flake like crazy. Sanding is like taking down to substrate, whether you see it or not your creating micro pockets which the paint fills/adheres to vs flat surface. Also alot of orange peel is because your spraying too close and too much. The excess spray is being pushed by the air from your gun. There's a perfect point where your not getting dry spray and your not getting orange peel, I would suggest dialing in your sprayer on paper first to check your fan and the amount coming out, this will help with the speed you should be spraying/moving your hand. Try and stay at those same speeds throughout the whole job.
