Watching younger generations react to songs like this is hilarious. The look on his face as Art gets started. That's called true talent sir hope you enjoyed it.
Simon and Garfunkel were more than a rock folk duo. They are legendary and talented beyond reason. Never had a bad song in my opinion. As far as I’m concerned Bridge over Trouble Water is in my top three best songs every written.
Paul Simon is the songwriting genius and Art Garfunkel [on the right in the screen pic] is the angelic voice that hits those notes that give you goosebumps!
The Boxer, and The Sound of SIlence are probably their most popular songs, Cecilia is good, and one of my favorite Paul Simon songs, Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard.
We actually HAD a "Julio" down by our schoolyard from Chile. He was an exchange student in Maine from 1965-1966 And he was RIGHT next door to me on my road. It was neat. Think the girls were jealous of me.
They were Tom and Jerry very early in their career, when they were teenagers. They met and started making music in grade school. Huge catalog may be an understatement. Check out Sound of Silence live from the Concert in Central Park. Other suggestions: The Boxer, America, Cecilia.
I love your reaction to this video. We subscribers can actually see the very moment you start grasping the meaning of the song, and it is almost SPIRITUAL the way you reacted. Another classic I was blessed to grow up with. Thanks for reacting to this song and keeping them classics alive!
makes me feel really old to know there are adults that have never heard this before. Every song on that album is worthy of a reaction. They were in the process of breaking up and did so shortly after the release of this album.
That beautiful piano part is done by Larry Knechtel, part of the Wrecking Crew, a group of session musicians responsible for some of the best backing tracks of the 60s and 70s.
This won Grammy for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Billboard ranked it #1 song for 1970. The Boxer is a great "serious" song, and Cecilia is a great "fun" song. My favorite is Scarborough Fair.
Art's voice(the one with the curly hair) is that of an Angel. I know it's been said so many times, but it is true. This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.
Back in the early 70s when this first came out it was one of my Daddy's favorite songs. I can remember him singing with the radio in the car and singing it in the house. He was a student preacher at the time. Now he's in his 80s. He retired about 10 years ago and still preached for a few years. He can't now because of his health. Thanks for the great memories.
It's marvelous yet thrilling that after 54 years since this immortal classic was first released, it touches the hearts of those who listen for the first time in 2024.
Beautiful reaction. This album was on heavy rotation in our house during the 70s. I lost a dear friend of 28 years last December and she was truly our bridge over troubled water, in every way a person can be. I will miss her for the rest of my life.
This song was the culmination of five albums of genius collaboration that changed pop music forever. Sound of Silence, I Am a Rock, Kathy's Song, America, Hazy Shade of Winter, Mrs. Robinson, Cloudy, A Poem on the Underground Wall, For Emily Wherever I May Find Her, The Dangling Conversation, The Boxer, Keep the Customer Satisfied, Frank Lloyd Wright, Why Don't You Write Me, My Little Town... So very hard to go wrong, so many timeless hits.
This song has always made me cry and lifted me up at the same time. I loved your reaction. There is definitely something spiritual about this song. Beautiful message.
Love your reaction!! The voice of God shines through this song. Paul Simon is an inspired lyricist and composer, phenomenal, then combined with ArtGarfunkel's angel voice. It's pure gold. It's heaven. Your spiritual sensibilities are spot on! Thank you for that! 😌💜
Simon and Garfunkel have an extensive and varied body of work. They almost remained unknown until a producer, without their knowledge or permission, hired studio musicians and turned their acoustic song "Sounds of Silence" into the new (at the time) folk rock sound. Although they were angry at first they could not argue with success as the song went to the top of the charts. For a time they stayed within the folk rock genre with songs like "Homeward Bound" and "I Am A Rock" but they always maintained their own path thanks to Paul Simon's songwriting ability. This was during the mid 60s when music had taken both an intellectual as well as a psychedelic turn and certain artists like Dylan, Simon, the Beatles, and a few others became the unofficial spokespersons of that generation. By 1966 Simon and Garfunkel were producing less traditional folk rock music and started examining some of the deeper aspects of life with their albums "Parsley Sage Rosemary and Thyme" and "Bookends." When they performed the soundtrack for the 1967 movie The Graduate (which was one of the first movies where you cheered for the anti hero) they were in the middle of the culture at that time, and their success justified the freedom they had taken to write and perform the songs they wanted to do. By the time Bridge Over Troubled Water was released many things had changed in the culture and they each wanted to pursue solo efforts. They both had successful solo careers but like the Beatles, their solo efforts didn't have the same chemistry as when they worked together and their 1981 reunion concert in Central Park is a testament to that statement. Most people today naturally want to react to the songs that were popular but there are musical gems and treasures in all of their albums and if you want to see what the intellectual side of the 1960s was about, Simon and Garfunkel are right there at the top of the list.
Art Garfunkel has one of the most underrated voices ever. All of Simon and Garfunkel's music is amazing. The Boxer is my 2nd favorite. Bridge Over Trouble Water is my favorite song of all time.
Amazing, honest reaction!! Loving your channel - your positive energy is infectious and it’s great to see you discovering music that had such a huge impact on mine and so many people’s lives. Definitely room for more of this kind of content in the world these days. 😊❤️🙌
I loved watching your reaction. You used words like “gospel”, and “hymn”, and that’s EXACTLY what Paul Simon described the song as being when he wrote it…he originally wrote the song to have only the first two verses, but Simon was convinced by Art Garfunkel and producer Roy Halley to add a third verse, “sail on silver girl…” which Simon wrote at the last minute in the studio just before they recorded it. Watching your reaction in hearing this song for the first time made me feel happy, but also a little jealous, too…because I’d love to be able to hear this song for the first time all over again, to go back to 1970 and experience the same chills and goosebumps I felt when I first heard it, just as you experienced when you heard it for the very first time today. 😉🙏❤️
When I listen to this song all I can think of is Jesus. He laid himself down for all of us like a bridge over troubled water. He loved his children so much he gave his life for us all .Hallelujah✝️🙏🏼❤️
That pure voice that is giving you goosebumps is the incomparable Art Garfunkel! This album is one of the most beautiful and popular albums in history! Pau Simon comes in toward the end. They harmonize perfectly. And any song they do will bless your ears! And, YES, you need to listen to the original of Sound of Silence. Simon & Garfunkel's is the essential original. 👌
ON March 21, 2013, the song was added to the “NATIONAL RECORDING REGISTRY in the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS , for “Long Term Preservation “ Between 1965-1968, it charted in the Top 5 songs, in 10 different countries and made it up the charts in an additional 4 countries. 📻🙂
You are the first reactor to state "It sounds like gospel." The piano is typical to what I heard in the apostolic/pentecostal/sanctified church I was once part of.
Watching you watch this brought me so much joy I have been in avery dark place For a very long time. God spoke to me one day in prayer and told me to listen to all songs as songs of praise and then this song came on. He later told me that it was his love song to us and the song was downloaded to Paul Simon. There is another video on UA-cam that actually later confirmed this Paul Simon said he did not know where this song came from it just appeared in his head. The song is a channeling it is a love song to us from God the music is also channeled you can literally feel your vibration raise when you listen to it. It was such a pleasure to watch you enjoy it and to see you physically react to the song
You nailed it. These 2 were the voices of my youth. If you want to hear one of the most beautiful love songs written in the past 60 years, check out "For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her."
You got Goosebumps after the first verse, I always get them at "Sail on Silver Girl". Biggest song of 1970 apparently put The Beatles Let it Be out of the top spot.
Art Garfunkel has one of the most hauntingly beautiful voices of all time. I love when you said it sounds like gospel music. I was just thinking Jesus is our bridge over troubled water. 😇
One of the best vocal duo there's ever been or ever will be. Pick any of their hits to react to and you can't go wrong. Their harmonies are sublime. Paul Simon is a legendary song writer and Art Garfunkel has one of the most angelic voices ever. Songs I recommend for you are The Sound of Silence, The Boxer, I Am a Rock, America, Homeward Bound, Cecelia, Mrs Robinson and Old Friends.
One of my favorite Cassette Tapes I ever owned, CCR was my favorite. (the Boom Box Tape Player, the Walkman, before the CD player and MP3, but after the 8 track and record player which my Dad still listens to) was Paul Simon and Garfunkle Live at Central Park; and my favorite songs the Boxer and Sound of Silence! Welcome to the Legendary Classics Devin!
I loved this song as a child in the 70's when my sister introduced me to it. Hated it in the 80's and 90's when every amature butchered it at Karaoke. Feel in love with it all over again in the 2000's when i sat in a dark room with a candle lit, laid back, and closed my eyes and just listened. What immediately leapt into my mind and felt with my heart, was the self-sacrificial care and love this songs speaks about. Lifting others up, encouraging others, being a strong support through all their pain and sorrow and being there fly them when they finally learn to fly!!! THAT is a message from heaven Paul wrote about this mentality in Philippians Chapter 2 relating it to having the mind of Christ. How much better this world would be if every marriage, friendship, and every human relationship operated in this fashion.
Do you want to hear something more impressive than that? Listen to the three song video of bridge over troubled water, the boxer and the sound of silence done live when they were in their 70s… Absolutely amazing
This came out in the 60's. Back during the crack epidemic in the 80's I was in high school. The bridge in our area opened up during that time and we marched across it playing this song. (I was in the marching band at the time). Not sure if it made a difference, but it did give us hope at the time.
THIS SONG IS, BY FAR, ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS EVER WRITTEN, IN MY OPINION. So simple, soft, but SO POWERFUL.....I interpret this song as a relationship between me and God......God watching out for me personally....sailing right behind. VERY SPIRITUAL SONG!!!!
they have a great songbook well worth delving into. Great to hear your reaction as have watched people react to covers of their songs (some good some soso) without taking the time to listen to the originals which are the blueprint of brilliance (my opinion). Was fortunate to see them in the 80's at Wembley Stadium - wow
When Art Garfunkel was born, I believe God breathed on him. A voice like that doesn't just happen. And Paul Simon's poignant lyrics are also special. Their harmonies together are amazing, but I'm sure Paul felt that this song should be sung by Art alone (the third verse aside). I love their more upbeat songs too, such as "Cecelia" off the same album. Their rabbit hole is pretty deep. I love "El Condor Pasa (If I Could)" and "Bookends" especially. Give them a listen sometime.
Paul Simon is that good a songwriter and Art Garfunkel that good a singer and this is their epic song. A generational song. This is like going to a symphonic orchestra concert with choir.
They are both still alive. Their catalog is huge.
The song gives one the You'll never walk alone deep deep meaning,
Still can't hear it without crying after almost 50 years
Same!
If ever you get to hear an angel sing, he might sound almost as good as Art Garfunkel! One of the best songs ever!
One of the best songs and performances of all time.
This was played at my brother's funeral in 1971. You're correct. It has become a hymn.
May your brother rest in peace, Mary. It's a beautiful song....
I Am A Rock is one of my favorites!

The Boxer, and The Sound of SIlence are probably their most popular songs, Cecilia is good, and one of my favorite Paul Simon songs, Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard.
I would say Bridge Over Troubled Water is their most popular...and Mrs Robinson too
I also love dimonds on the souls of her shoes and love me like a rock by paul simon n America from simon and Garfunkel
We actually HAD a "Julio" down by our schoolyard from Chile. He was an exchange student in Maine from 1965-1966 And he was RIGHT next door to me on my road. It was neat. Think the girls were jealous of me.
Check out All I know by Simon & Garfunkel. Amazing
LOVE "I am a rock"........very deep and very revealing........
It's a hymn, Devin, and I believe Paul Simon touched The Divine when he wrote it. I'm moved every single time I hear it.
This is a gospel song that Simon wrote after listening to the Swan Silvertones. He considers it the greatest song he ever wrote. It is.
Just cried my eye's out listening to this song again..It was my mum's Funeral song 5 year's ago..
This is a PERFECT song. NO ONE will ever do it better!
What a wonderful reaction! Yes, Simon & Garfunkel are legends!! I like all their songs but one of my favorite, least requested songs is "I Am A Rock."
one of the most beautiful songs ever written
Paul Simon, the short dark haired guy wrote the song and Art Garfunkel, the tall fair one sang this. Angelic vocals
One of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. This song still brings my mother to tears. Decades later.
My mother wasn't a religious person by any means, but she said this song always reminded her of how Jesus loves us....
She was 100 percent correct. That is how Jesus loves us. It's also how He asked us to love others!
They were Tom and Jerry very early in their career, when they were teenagers. They met and started making music in grade school. Huge catalog may be an understatement. Check out Sound of Silence live from the Concert in Central Park. Other suggestions: The Boxer, America, Cecilia.

I know what you mean. In my 10th grade English class Sound of Silence was studied as poetry. That would have been 1979.
This song is a soaring tribute to love and friendship. Art Garfunkel’s voice is pure perfection!!!!!
This is such an emotional song, just beautiful....Angelic...Thank you, Amen
I really want to learn the piano for this song😌
Please do Simon and Garfunkel’s “Sound of Silence” and “Cecilia”
You won’t regret this rabbit hole.
That beautiful piano part is done by Larry Knechtel, part of the Wrecking Crew, a group of session musicians responsible for some of the best backing tracks of the 60s and 70s.
Art has the voice of an Angel....
The Boxer, Cecilia, Mrs Robinson - it goes on and on.
America, homeward bound
The Only Living Boy in New York, Scarborough Fair, The 59th Street Bridge Song.
“This sounds like gospel.” Paul Simon, the songwriter, thought so too. That’s cool you heard it too.
This won Grammy for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Billboard ranked it #1 song for 1970. The Boxer is a great "serious" song, and Cecilia is a great "fun" song. My favorite is Scarborough Fair.
“If I Could” [ El Condor Pasa ].
- (my favorite) -
📻🙂
Your Aunt has great taste🥰🥰. My parents had this on the record player alot. Love it🥰
Garfunkel sings like angels!
I love how you feel the music-in my opinion that’s the best way to digest it. Peace Devin!
Wow. The memories. I grew up in 60 70 . I'm do lucky.
So lucky. Lol
One of the most beautiful songs of all time ! My mother's favorite song & we ended her memorial service playing this song
Art's voice(the one with the curly hair) is that of an Angel. I know it's been said so many times, but it is true.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.
Thank you for sharing your spiritual inspiration. I have never enjoyed watching someone as much as I have enjoyed watching you. God bless!
These two had great harmony.

GREATEST SONG OF THE 1970'S....NO DOUBT

Goosebumps galore!!
👍👍👍
This song has always made me cry and lifted me up at the same time. I loved your reaction. There is definitely something spiritual about this song. Beautiful message.
Great reaction! Such a great message and not just in the song. One of the best reactions I have seen in a while.

I’ve asked my family to have this as my funeral song.
Me, too.
There are exactly 2 artists who I have purchased their entire discography: Simon and Garfunkel and Patsy Cline
My favorite Simon and Garfunkel song still today!!!!

Paul Simon is genious !!!
Great reaction! This song always makes me tear up. It's beyond amazing!
REAL artists, real music, real lyrics and all timeless! That's why we're listening to them 65 years later.
You are the first reactor to state "It sounds like gospel." The piano is typical to what I heard in the apostolic/pentecostal/sanctified church I was once part of.

Oh Wow! Praise be to our Lord God! Thank you! Just read your comment! SOO beautiful! Peace and Blessings to you and your family from Australia.
Blessings to you as well From Saluda North Carolina
Paul Simon (the brunet one) is one of the Music Geniouses and Art Garfunkle (the blonde one) had one the most angelic voiced you will hear in music!!!
Yeah, this went #1. No surprise everybody had to cover it, from Aretha, to Elvis. Art took us all to church on this one.
Such a heartwarming song. Your reaction is a compliment. Thanks a lot.
Devin, your reaction was spot-on, authentic, & transcended ALL of the other reactions to this epic song currently on UA-cam.... hands down.
✌&❤
Didn’t you get the chills? We sing this song in church!
The voice is Art Garfunkel ❤️
You nailed it. These 2 were the voices of my youth. If you want to hear one of the most beautiful love songs written in the past 60 years, check out "For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her."
You got Goosebumps after the first verse, I always get them at "Sail on Silver Girl". Biggest song of 1970 apparently put The Beatles Let it Be out of the top spot.
Sounds of silence was a ground breaking album. Many years later Paul Simon did it again with Graceland.
One of my all time favorite songs and singers
The BOXER next🔥💯
God Bless Aunt Kathy, This is what life is about
One of my favorite Cassette Tapes I ever owned, CCR was my favorite.
Some times when you play your Instrument, it just begins to speak. Paul Simon is an incredible musician
Art Garfunkel was once married to a lady whose father was a physician in a group of doctors in Nashville.
Thanks for your honest emotions. They sure don't make music like that these days. Really pulls on the heart strings.
Elvis did a fine job on this song also' Its a must listen to. Thank you.
Here's some personal faves: "For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her"; "Scarborough Fair" and "Feelin' Groovy" You'll be glad you did.
Do you want to hear something more impressive than that? Listen to the three song video of bridge over troubled water, the boxer and the sound of silence done live when they were in their 70s… Absolutely amazing
Its fantastic to watch Millennials find music before the Synth the CD and Social Media .. Great Reaction Devin !!
This won the Grammy for song of the year in 1970
This came out in the 60's. Back during the crack epidemic in the 80's I was in high school. The bridge in our area opened up during that time and we marched across it playing this song. (I was in the marching band at the time). Not sure if it made a difference, but it did give us hope at the time.
Beautiful song Beautiful message Beautiful singing and music❤
Our Almighty King will always walk with you
This is my teenage years. 🤘🏼
Mine too! I graduated from high school in 1970, right in the sweet spot ☮️♥️🤘🏼👵🏼

You are so correct+
Paul Simon is that good a songwriter and Art Garfunkel that good a singer and this is their epic song. A generational song. This is like going to a symphonic orchestra concert with choir.
Yep, Art Garfunkel had one of the all time most beautiful voices in pop music history.
Those were the days. The Disturbed dude did a super cover, but the S&G rendition is still special.
