    Lehi and Nephi were scribes! A Josephite or even Manassite scribal school that wrote in Egyptian existed all the way back to Abraham, was passed down to Joseph of Egypt, and down to Lehi and Nephi, explains Book Of Mormon Scholar Noel B. Reynolds.
    This scribal school was in the original tradition of the Patriarchs, as opposed to the Judahite school, which "harmonized" various Judahite teachings. The Josephite scribal school produced the Brass Plates and the Book of Mormon, while the Judahite school, which was unfamiliar with the Egyptian language, produced the Old Testament.
    Joseph of Egypt flourished in Egypt because of his scribal training!
    Mormon and Moroni were scribal school boys at a very young age.
    Where was Abraham's "Ur?"

    The Lords word is forever. The prophets record on plates to last and persist through time. Scrolls can be edited, but plates with holy writ maintain their brightness and perfect truth as far as that language can express it.

    Terah was with Abraham when he died. “He migrated with Abram, Sarai, and Lot (Nahor following them later) from Ur of the Chaldees to Charran (Haran), where he died (Gen. 11:24, 26, 31; Josh. 24:2; 1 Chr. 1:26; Abr. 1:30; 2:1-6).” Bible Dictionary.

    Wouldn't this same line of thinking lead one to consider that Ether would have been of the noble class and a scribe as well? What about Jared and his brother as well? Either reading and writing were more common than the experts say or those writing the ancient scriptures were all scribes and high class, no? Thanks for the video. 🎉 Shalom.

    Caravans of Lehi's life extended from West to East and South. Lehi's journeys probably saw from Isles of the Sea to far eastern Asia ... maybe with Jeremiah. Those trading routes are still known today in Muslim expeditionary travelers to worship in Mecca.

    Douglas Petrovich has done great work on proto-Hebrew and makes a great case that Moses likely wrote in it and that it may have actually been developed by Joseph. Noel doesn't seem to be aware of this recent research.

    So the Brass Plates that Nephi took from Laban were the only existing copy of those writings (no wonder Laban would not part with them). In other words, the Old Testament that we have today is not what is contained on the Brass Plates , but rather a compilation of these "oral traditions". That is very profound indeed. ua-cam.com/video/ajrM73BKieI/v-deo.html

  • @frederikatenhoopen6112

    Then Laban would know the value of the plates and that’s why he didn’t want to give them to Nephi! The genealogy being most valuable then and today!

    I am writing this before listening all the way through, so maybe it is addressed later, but I am now wondering how much the role of scribe played in the family feud of who should lead after Lehi passes away. Also, who should lead between the Nephites and the Mulekites. Evidence would suggest that the Mulekites were illiterate. Obviously, priesthood plays the primary role, but I wonder now about the role of scribe.

    • @CwicShow
      @CwicShow  18 годин тому +1

      Seems to be prominent. Also, because the scribes would have the plates. Being that they were in Egyptian, the Mulekites were unlikely to have even been able to read them.

    Mormon 9
    And if our plates had been sufficiently large we should have written in Hebrew; but the Hebrew hath been altered by us also; and if we could have written in Hebrew, behold, ye would have had no imperfection in our record.
    Obviously Lehigh and nephi had a fully formed Hebrew script before they came to America because a form of Hebrew was still had among the Nephites in the days of Mormon.
    Also their motivation for using the Egyptian language to write the scriptures was because of space considerations, not because of religious norms.

    • @CwicShow
      @CwicShow  22 години тому +1

      It’s probably both. Remember, the Brass Plates were written in Egyptian too.

    • @spcold89

      And Laban was likely Sariah's uncle. Because she was a woman, she could not inherent the plates of Joseph directly. Her father would have been the custodian of the records of Joseph. But he died and it fell to Laban, who would be the trustee of the plates until her oldest son would have come of age to receive them.
      But this is a position with immense power and prestige. He didn't want to give this power and prestige up willingly. So Laban by refusing to relinquish the plates to Laman was guiltily of theft and attempted murder 3 times over.

    Although called brass plates, they may have been mountain brass from Greece or Rose Gold, which was esteemed the most precious of any metals ... also known as: Aurechulcam could or would tarnish, especially after being burnt, but fluttered in the rose hue instead of yellow.

    Abraham spent time with Noah, Shem and learned from them and Noah brought the history( written) from time of Adam. Your guest suggests an oral tradition written by scribes( Jewish). Confused when Abrahams learning from Noah etc would have been lost. this would have become completely lost! Suppose diluted during 400 yrs in Egypt under their influence!And, All Adam’s records brought with Noah were prior to Egypt!! So quests idea of all written language had to have been Egyptian as that was only written language? Explain! Would not all of Israel prior to division have same history! Iam just confused no doubt! Didn’t listen to end as just getting more confused! Can see 10 tribes coming up with own history once divided! But can’t see where Jews felt they had oral tradition only!

    Perhaps versions of Jasher tell us much more about Abram, then Abraham ... Nimrod's kingdom of five great cities, Ur being one of them. Congruent to the great famine at Ur of Chaldeese is the Jaredite mention of "a great Dirth."

    I wonder if Laban knew Egyptian, referring to Laban who had the brass plates before Nephi got them from the possession of Laban, or did Laban only have the brass plates for its metallic value in his vault? The brass plates may have been stolen from Lehi long before they left Jerusalem, so Lehi had his sons get them before coming to the promised land? Could this be?

    Question: is it possible that Joseph actually got the pearl of great price from the brass plates rather than the papyrus? Seems possible if he used the gold plates and the plates of nephi for the BOM and knew one of the three nephites ‘Nephi’ himself and had access to the repository.
