Hobo's Lullaby Words and Music by Goebel Reeves Go to sleep you weary hobo Let the towns drift slowly by Can't you hear the steel rails hummin' That's the hobo's lullaby I know your clothes are torn and ragged And your hair is turning gray Lift your head and smile at trouble You'll find peace and rest someday Now don't you worry 'bout tomorrow Let tomorrow come and go Tonight you're in a nice warm boxcar Safe from all that wind and snow I know the police cause you trouble They cause trouble everywhere But when you die and go to Heaven You'll find no policemen there So go to sleep you weary hobo Let the towns drift slowly by Listen to the steel rails hummin' That's a hobo's lullaby
Mr. Jenkins, I would hope you and I can sing so well at age 76. Hell it might be an achievement if I can even breath when I'm 76. Pete may have damaged his vocal cords by about 55 years of singing for crowds at this point. I'm sure many of those years were before amplifiers were even common. He sang with Woody Guthrie for union rallies and later civil rights gatherings where I'm sure he had no mike. I'm sure most in the audience are aware of Pete's recent passing at age 94.
I realize he was old and feeble, but i have heard some of his earlier recordings and he did not have a good singing voice then much like Dylan.Dylan though was a great songwriter.
To play live at such honours, fare doos to the guy he was surrounded by people that all looked like they been baptised in lemon duice and he kept it going just like in his lovely song.
Anyone have his last performance on TV ? He was truly what Real America is all about - Fighting for Freedom / Liberty / Justice and the pursuit of Happiness for all Humanity.
Seems like they romamcify life .with their songs .kind of create myths .around life .they're great musicians .everything sounds romantic .alcohol .hobos.coal mines. You name it .criminality .
trm10111 I know i can not sing so i don't try.Seeger could not sing but i did not stop him. He could not sing as a young man and he did not get any better.
Pete Seeger, a true gentleman, if there ever was one! An amazing guy and so dearly missed! Thank you for posting this magical videon! :-)
Pete is the best of humanity.
Rest thou good and faithful man
I so love this song and this iconic singer of folk music, what a great soul!
I am no lefty, but Pete Seeger was supremely talented. Thousands play banjo and guitar because of him.
A great man and I miss him deeply.
Pete is inspirational without having a great voice. I could listen to him forever.

Go to sleep you weary hobo
Let the towns drift slowly by
Can't you hear the steel rails hummin'
That's the hobo's lullaby
I know your clothes are torn and ragged
And your hair is turning gray
Lift your head and smile at trouble
You'll find peace and rest someday
Now don't you worry 'bout tomorrow
Let tomorrow come and go
Tonight you're in a nice warm boxcar
Safe from all that wind and snow
I know the police cause you trouble
They cause trouble everywhere
But when you die and go to Heaven
You'll find no policemen there
So go to sleep you weary hobo
Let the towns drift slowly by
Listen to the steel rails hummin'
That's a hobo's lullaby
Will miss you Pete. Now you get to make music with Woody once again.
In HELL?

I saw Pete live several times in the seventies and eighties. He always said he didn't have much voice. 😆⚘❤

Jesus you'd expect more help from those around him, gormless faces around him unfortunately not understanding what they're in the presence of😐
I think he is without a doubt the worst singer i have ever heard.
Don Jenkins is without a doubt a jerk.
Jim Abbott
Yeah but an honest one!
And I'm sure you'll sound like Pavarotti when you're almost 80....

Awful.
