Apple TV has no profiles unless someone has an apple ID. There's only one person in my household that has an iphone. The rest of us have andriod phones. I don't know why apple tv makes it so hard to add profiles , when every other streaming app makes it so easy.
Hi from the UK, you highlighted the main reason why I don't use profiles on Apple TV - which is not being able to associate your Netflix, Prime, Disney+ etc profile with your own profile on ATV, most likley this is an app specific limitation, until this feature ever lands with us then I'll carry on using ATV in the same way as I do now. Unfortunately, it feels like Apple don't have much of a budget or huge interest in Apple TV development, in the couple of years I've been an ATV user the only UI feature enhancement that I can easily recall is the ability to change the clock format from 12h to 24hr (I'm sure there are many more though). Progression with TVOS feels like it's at a snails pace compared to iOS or iPad OS, I have this mental image that the Apple TV Dev Team don't have the luxury of desks at Apple Park but work from a dusty old rental unit somewhere in Silicon Valley 🤣
Thing I want is to be able to have a profile with it's own apps and everything separate. If I could have my account as the primary profile (hidden behind a passcode or something) with each profile having its own apps, layout and services etc then I'd be happy
Unfortunately, Apple's concept of a profile is really more of an "account", linked with a specific Apple ID and payment source. In other streaming services, the profile is just shorthand for a user's watch list and suggestions... the account is configured separately (i.e. one payer, multiple viewers). I kind of wish that Apple would also have the same concept of a viewing profile for Apple TV (the app) for the Up Next list and suggestions, without having to switch between different Apple IDs or mix payment sources and media ownership. I can understand from Apple's point of view, it wants to sell services and content linked to an Apple ID, but the TV app is where that model becomes a bit inflexible.
So you can switch users..how do you set up each user so they can view their own pictures and music? I added my wife to the Apple TV and her profile she views my pictures and uses my music. Her own iCloud account is associated in the setup. She is not on my family setup with iCloud she has her own account.
I'll have to see about an advanced use profile management overview. I had thought when you change the profile, the Apple apps automatically changed with them. For example, Apple Music changes with the selected active profile.
@@Techthusiasm That wasnt the case on my Apple TV. Like I said my kids and I are on my family profile. My wife has her own family profile with her Apple ID but when she goes to FaceTime all her contacts are there as though she can FaceTime on her own iphone.
Starting to look more at ATV 4K to replace FireTV 4K since I learned Vudu has HDR support in ATV, but not FTV. Adding the Ethernet port shows ATV is “prime” to lead the streaming app market. Moreover, I grow weary of the clunky FTV interface constantly bogging down from the limited memory. I had the 1st gen and it seems time to adopt this gen.
@@Techthusiasm Done! Surprisingly, Vudu is not the only app to offer DV/HDR in ATV, MAX is another. FireTV 4K Max is puny compared to superstar ATV 4K monster. Good suggestion.
Thanks for the video! Since infuse doesn't allow multiple users, does tvos user switching allow you to log into infuse as a different user, or use a different library?
can itunes purchases (movies) be shared by everyone who has a profile on the atv4k (4 of us on apple family share through appleone premium). Also could those same purchases be watched by a family member through the apple+ apple on another device (ps5, xbox, smart tv)?
That's a good point that I kind of missed in the video. I might have to spin out a dedicated one on family sharing and Apple TV coming up. Apple Family Sharing is great. We use it in our family of four and I also share with my parents. They have access to my iTunes Movie & TV library easy on their own devices.
So bad that in 2024 Apple tv+ has no profiles unless someone has an Apple ID. There's only my daughter in my household the has an iPhone. The rest of us have Galaxy's. I don't know why Apple Inc. makes it so hard to add profiles, when NETFLIX, prime video, Disney+, max, Paramount+ and other streaming services apps makes it so easy. PS We have an... Apple tv 4K (3rd generation) Wi-Fi ÷ Ethernet nVIDIA SHIELD TV PRO (2019) and 2 SONY BRAVIA with Google TV all High-end devices. Hope this Jun 10- 14 in WWWC24 the announce this simple feature that the main the Streaming Services have for years!

because it's apple and they want to create a monopoly to outcast anything that isn't Apple. That's why I'm an Android user

Cross your fingers for WWDC this June and hope we see some cool things with Apple TV and tvOS. That'll be the next chance at something.

Yep, there's a lot more to do with profiles. I think we will see more features eventually.

I highly recommend it!

Sharing of app games features should be included in tv os in wwdc
When you use the "up next" feature with apps such as hulu, do the up next recommendations change when you change profiles?
No, there's no relationship between app profiles and tvOS profiles (yet). It's on my feature want list for sure.
@Techthusiasm weird, according to Apple the recommendations change
Does switching your apple tv profile change your youtube account?
No, the profile used by the system does not affect apps profiles. It really needs to though.
Thanks for the video! Since infuse doesn't allow multiple users, does tvos user switching allow you to log into infuse as a different user, or use a different library?
Negative. ATV profiles do not change the state of non-Apple apps, as per the video. I'm pretty sure that's the case for Infuse as well.
Is there a way to have different languages for different profiles?
I don't believe so.
