Helpful video however, you glossed over connecting the Apple TV........why connect it to the AVR instead of the TV and use eARC back to the AVR? IF you connect it to the AVR....where? and then where does the AVR connect on the TV? Follow up: I'm connected to TV (Sony 950H) and using eARC to AVR. It seems to work fine.....am I losing quality.... either audio or video?
So do you have the ATV4K hooked directly to the receiver or the tv? If receiver is it in the eARC port or any HDMI port and how do you hook to the tv? Is it via an HDMI output to the tv?
Thanks Gene, really helpful. One additional tip is to make sure ‘Reduce loud sounds’ is set to ‘No’ in the audio settings, to maintain full dynamic range. There are also settings in the ‘App settings’ for Music where you can switch to lossless and Dolby Atmos as automatic.
I wish Apple put that on the slide out screen that users access any time (I forget what that is called). So then, if you live in an apartment, don't want to wake the kids or just want to have a less booming experience, you can turn on reduce bass quickly.
That’s pretty cool. I was just looking for a way to have my sound bar. Turn on whenever my TV turns on since it doesn’t turn on after I install the Apple TV.

I just got the latest 128Gb version for Christmas. I just upgraded from the 2017 4K version. Apple did a great job of keeping the older versions up to date. The only difference I noticed between the two is when watching UA-cam in 4K 60fps. The older version would down scale to 1440p 60fps.
Great information, thanks! I do have a gen-3 Apple TV 4K, which I love, but I do have a question. I don't yet have an Atmos receiver, though I plan to get one. With a standard stereo setup, should I disable Dolby Atmos in the audio settings, or does Apple TV automatically down-convert the audio to match the current system setup? Cheers!
I have my LGCXOLED TV plugged into the eArc HDMI input on my Denon AVR-760. Everything else on my system also runs through the Denon AVR to the speakers (DVD player. CD player, PS, etc) Where should I plug in the Apple TV using the HDMI cable? I didn't see that covered. Thanks!
Oh, this is way over my head. I just want to connect the Apple TV to HDMI and start. I don't know what Atmos is or any of that. Can I still use the Apple TV?
Would I get Dolby Vision with the "match content" off? With it off there is a smooth transition to a Dolby Vision program but there is no Dolby Vision icon in the top right corner when it starts so I'm not sure if it is in Dolby Vision or what's it's in.
I have got the 1st apple 4k tv box and thinking upgrade to a newer version because I find I have to turn up the av more is it just my what dose this and is the nivida sheld pro better
Dolby atmos / Spatial Audio music worked out of the box for me with the latest software update they have on there. Yet to check HD as I don’t have a 4K tv yet.
Is it possible to set up crossfade on my apple tv 4k - i use it on my iphone 14 but cant find it on apple tv - and i dont want to use airplay - play my apple music through my onkyo and B&W speakers. Thanks🙏
Great video. I would like my Trinnov to do the processing and not the Apple TV unit. Is this possible as all I see are apCM settings and not bitstream 🤔
Hi This was really helpful. I set my Samsung TV to your settings. I don't have Dolby Atmos on my Soundbar. Is it a good idea to set it to Auto or Dolby 5.1 surround?
Thanks Gene, as always is great to have the support and suggestions from specialist like you, But what about the TV´s that automatic select the best output format? especially uf I have disable Dolby Visión or HDR disable, because I enable SDR format as you suggest. Thanks again and keep watching and listening. This is Paco from Mexico
This setting is not available in tvOS 18 on Apple TV 4k Gen 1. Is it a Gen 2+ setting or has it been removed? (I also do not see it on Apple TV HD. (And yes, I am an Apple Music subscriber.)
Hello Sir I want to say thank you I love your show it very informative! My question to you is I’m about to pull the trigger and upgrade to a S95C tv and my concern is that my AVR Denon 4500H will it be compatible? It’ll be hooked up alone just for audio I’m currently running a 7.1.4 will it work or do I need to upgrade my AVR?
Have you experienced no sound on prime and Netflix with non atmos audio, when atmos is on in settings? I have to go into setting and turn off atmos to get sound
What does it mean if I had the blinking and 1 second black outs when I was on HDR and after switching to SDR it was no longer doing that and worked smoothly. Is that a cable issue?
Hello can I ask You 1 question:)? I have the apple 4k tv box, denon avr x1700h with a samsung qled TV. 5.1 serup with kef q750 and rel 1205 II. I don’t understand why the avr shows multi in when playing mostly everything? Why not dolby dig + D sorround? What multi in means? Regards great chanel
Thanks for another informative video, Gene! I have a Sony A80J and Denon X4700H AVR. My TV has all the streaming services built in. Would the sound and picture quality improve if I also got the Apple TV. I primarily stream Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Apple TV+. I am new to this and do not fully understand how this technology works. Thanks again!
Running Apple TV 4K to Vizio sound bar hdmi in then my other port hdmi eARC out to my old 2016 Samsung 4K LED tv which I’m only using for video should I connect sound bar via eARC to back TV (only ARC hdmi 3) or hdmi 1? Or maybe it doesn’t matter? Thx David
In my setup I connect apple tv 4k to a 1080p projector. And I wanna connect apple tv 4k wireless to samsung q990b and I wonder if you can get dolby atmos via airplay or bluetooth.
Question. I have a 2022 samsung qn75qn800b 8k tv and the new denon x4800h. Do you recommend having the peripherals for ex. Apple 4k tv directly to the avr or is it OK to pass through the tv? What are the pros and cons for each way?
I have old but good main speakers JBL, center speaker Jamo and rear spearks JBL, if I buy a new receiver with dolby atmos, what kind of speakers must I buy?
Gene I did these settings works only with my Apple TV connected to my Hisense. When I connected the Apple TV directly on the back of my SR-8015 I was not able to get that 4.4.4 and 4k SDR with new HDMI cables any ideas
Nice video, Gene! Very helpful for all Apple TV owners. I have used these settings myself for a couple years now. Have you tried any of the new features that Apple has added like the ability to do calibration of the TV with your phone camera and all of that? Any thoughts on how good that is or if it works? I have my ATV4k going into a Denon x2700h to a Sony X95h. Sometimes the picture cuts out and goes to a black screen while watching a program. You have to go back out and restart/replay the program to get the picture back. From my testing I think it is an issue with my Denon receiver. Have you seen this happen with your x3800h? Thanks!
I had a similar issue with a new Roku Ultra running through a Denon AVR with EARC to my Sony A8H OLED. I fixed it by installing 48 Gbps rated HDMI cables.
@@jamestapscott9400 Thanks for the reply! I’m also connected to the EARC HDMI input on the TV. My cables are supposed to be rated for that but worth a shot at swapping them out I suppose. Cheaper than a new AVR or TV, right? The family really gets annoyed when it blanks out in the middle of a show, lol.
My one year old HDMI cables were supposedly able to pass Dolby Vision. So, the issue with audio/no video occurred when attempting to stream DV video on a 2021 Roku Ultra. DV worked on the Sony X800M2, so I did not think cables were the issue. I was very frustrated. After several hours of combing AV forums, I broke down and ordered new cables. I installed Zeskit Lite 48 Gbps Slim Ultra High Speed HDMI 3 and 5 foot cables. Some owners of the X95H reported random EARC issues. I would check the HDMI settings on the Sony and Denon. Ensure they are set to Enhanced. Also, check for updates.
The Apple calibration is rather crude. I was not impressed at all with what it did to the almost already calibrated picture I had on my Oled TVs. It emphasized green a lot. It was just wrong!
@@jamestapscott9400 thanks again! Glad the new cables worked for you. I have some Pacroban cables rated for 48gbps installed but maybe one has an issue, worth a swap to see. Those enhanced settings are key, too. Especially in this case with DV or setting the ATV to chroma 4:4:4. The Sony tv requires enhanced for that.
I noticed when steaming out of my TV. The audio is very weak . Going into my surround sound system. Especially with HBO Max. Would something like apple TV. Solve that issue and give me stronger audio ?
Does Denon/Marantz “height virtualization” actually do anything for a room like mine with mechanical intrusions that ruin the placement of atmos height channels?
With the audio if you only have Dolby 5.1 should you still turn audio off and select that? Apple says you will lose your surround sound when you turn auto off
Hi Gene, I am using below Following ar emu set up with your recommendations. 1. PROJECTOR connected with eARC to Emotiva MR1 AV receiver (2.0b HDMI) 2. HDMI cable I am using is 2.1 3. Connected Apple TV4K to Emotiva Receiver to HDMI 1 port. With this I am not getting ATMOS sound? Please help me with this.
Hi Gene so I have the sony a95L with apple 4k tv 3rd gen and if I put in sdr on apple and watch say dolby vision content on Netflix, it doesn't give me option for dv high or dv low cause on apple tv if I set it to sdr.. any content I watch in dv on my very expensive tv it's comes out very dark. Don't get me started on motion with this tv.. don't know what I got myself into here.. And it's frustrating cause i always need to go back put it back on enable dolby vision or 4k hdr whatever it is and get that dv high or low option.. but want to keep it on sdr.. and yes, ambient light is off on sony and eco is set to off. Any help or suggestions thx in advance
but when I use infuse, it cant decode dts or whatever format audio, it always output pcm, and I check the audio output is tv, not my receiver , how to change the default audio output
Please, if you going to suggest settings please take the time to explain why not choose the other options. For example, on Format, why not RGB HIGH OR LOW, when I can clearly see more specular highlights details when on RGB HIGH.
RGB Low corresponds to the full 0-255 range, while high is 16-235 right? At least that’s what my LG C2 is showing when I swap between them on the ATV then the LG. I say that to say, wouldn’t RGB low give technically better results for you if your tv supports it?
HI JEAN I NEED YOUR EXPERTISE IN SETTING UP MY ATMOS SPEAKERS AND MAXIMIZING MY AUDIO SYSTEM. I KNOW YOU CHARGE FOR YOUR SERVICE. WHAT'S THE PROCESS TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.
Are your setting screens the same for newer ATV models? I’m wondering why there’s a 1080p Dolby vision option, but 4k just says HDR. Does that mean it doesn’t think the tv/rcvr supports Dolby vision? I definitely get it show on my tv on discs played on my Oppo. Can people mention some streaming movies that definitively work? I wonder if they show it on the movie title page but not really streamed with it. I know prime doesn’t support Dolby vision and does hdr10+ now and I think you need premium subscription on Netflix.
I have a first gen Apple TV 4K from 2017, a Rui pro 8k cable going from the Apple TV in to an hdmi 2.2 port of my Yamaha 681, and a fiber optic 18 gbps 4:4:4 hdmi cable out to my lg 77 cx oled. I can not get Dolby Vision to work. Am I missing something?
Audio output sertings when put atmos on 5.1 format movies coming multi chaneel mode so how to change this to dolby digital 5.1 and why its not taking automatically...
@bhaskarbh8457 Dolby MAT is how AppleTV passes Atmos to your AVR so that's probably why you're seeing it. Check your active channel indicator or hit info for signal format to verify you're playing back Atmos.
Thanks a lot!! This was what I needed, no more oversaturated cover art in Plex, perfect playback in 1080p, 2160 4k HDR or Dolby vision ... I almost threw out the ATV
Hay can you do an update on setting. Can you confirm that Apple Home Sharing is no longer supporting HLS media files ? I can’t get any of my new movies to show up on home share. I have looked around it is seems like home share is only supporting MKV4 files. Is apple killing off home share?
I have a Denon AVR-H4700 when I have my Apple TV hooked up and setup as this video recommends it will not show the Dolby Vision availability on the Apple TV. When it’s directly connected to my Sony 900H TV the Availability of Dolby Vision is there. In both cases I can set it for SDR 60 and all the rest can be set but when I hit the info on the Denon it never shows Dolby Vision and on any streaming platform. My Denon is set to 4K extended and my TV is set to Dolby Vision for EARC on HDMi3. Any ideas when I can’t get Dolby Vision thru my Denon AVR?
Hi, Would like to say a big thank you for set up of Apple 4K, since taking your direction on setup I have found that UA-cam is not buffering between adverts/commercials while watching videos. This was caused by setting the Apple to 4K HDR 50/60hz and was frustrating me for months, so once again a big thank you. If you have a video on how to set up the best Dolby Atmos on a Yamaha RX-A3080 with a 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos setup I would be very pleased to watch and learn and have my system sounding just like it should. Once again thank you and have a wonderful New Year.
Hello, I have an LG CX 77”, Denon AVR X4200W (7:1 configuration) and newest 4K ATV and notice that I do not have the option to adjust HDMI output and chroma is capped at 4:2:2. Is this a limitation of my hardware?
Hello sir, I’m in the process of watching your video and on the part when you start discussing changing the audio output format to Dolby Atmos, would the same apply to me if, OK, being that my 4K TV and my 3.1(now 5.1 with the optional rear wireless surround kit) soundbar is not Dolby Atmos compatible and I think the only best sound formats it will work with is Dolby digital and DTS so on that very same setting of my Apple TV, would it benefit me to just leave the output audio settings set to the default LPCM or should I change that to straight up Dolby digital 5.1? I keep hearing mixed information on that. But I will say, though, leaving that setting to LPCM seems to do just fine because being that I have my sound bar connected to my TV via HDMI arc, If I’m streaming something on my Apple TV that’s being presented in Dolby Digital, my TV will automatically change it’s output, audio format to the sound bar from PCM to Dolby digital and then if I start watching some thing that’s not being presented in Dolby Digital, the TV will once again change it’s output audio format to the sound bar from Dolby Digital back to PCM….. Thanks
Great video. ? I have a room that’s about 12x26. I’m looking to a subwoofer. My budget is $2,000 can recommend one for me. I would like to go with 2 but not sure at the budget I can at the moment Thank you
Thanks for the guide. I tried these on my Apple tv connected to Yamaha tsr-700 which connects to TCL tv. When content changes from Dolby vision to SDR whole screen gets a purple filter on it. Not sure whats wrong
Im listening to the "dolby atmos playlist" from amazon music thru my firestick. The firestick is plugged into the front HDMI port on my marantz 6012 and the info button reads: sound: dolby surround. signal: PCM. And then describes the audysee setup. Why wont it play in the dolby atmos format? The audio settings in the firestick are set to "best available" so shouldnt it be sending the dolby atmos signal?
Hi Gene, why is no one talking about getting DTS audio, and it's source. Also I'm unable to pass-through DTS to my receiver from my samsung TV while my content is stored in plex server.
I have connected Apple TV 4K to AVR Denon X1400H configured 5.1.2 (atmos). Every time I turn on the system the AVR volume is always very high. This doesn’t happen when I play DVD player or Spotify direct streaming on AVR. What could be reason
Would there be any difference in sound when we compare a movie purchased/rented on Apple TV store versus streaming the same movie (with same sound format.. let’s say Dolby atmos )on a streaming platform on Apple TV..?
Owning over 200 iTunes movies… I would say it’s very, very close. A nice thing about iTunes purchases is when better audio or video formats are released for previous purchases they are upgraded at no cost. A lot of my library was purchased pre-atmos, but most all has been moved over now. IMO - Disney has the best video and audio, but it’s only a slight edge and I would not be surprised to be proven wrong. To me, I just think the Disney marvels are fantastic.
I thought I understood until I try to apply the knowledge. I have Apple 4K, Onkyo TX0NR5100 7.2 receiver and a 70" Samsung QLED 4k. Both the Samsung and Onkyo have ARC ports. My first thought was to run apple --> Onkyo TV HDMI IN and then run the ARC to Samsung for picture. I was advised to run apple-->Samsung then bring the ARC to Onkyo.. What I consider a problem is that the ARC on the Onkyo is on the HDMI associated with the MAIN SUB. Another problem is that while Samsung has HDMI2 as ARC, the TV setup says I can connect to it but I can't get the samsun software to turn on the ARC. any suggestions?
Hello Gene, thanks for this informative video. I have Sony X900H tv and also connected Apple TV 4K, I think it it second generation. I am using Costco brand 4K HDMI cable but it is not showing any video if I select Chroma 4:4:4. Apple TV is connected direct to TV on its hdmi port 2. Is this due to cable? Should I buy 8k 48gbps certified cable to resolve this issue? I will appreciate your advice.
How about the Atmos decode ? Is it pass through to AVR or still.decode Atmos in the 4kApple TV that shows PCM in the AVR like previous version ? Thanks
But I have heard that Apple TV has Auto Frame rate. which is based on the stream material's images per second. Shouldn't it also be able to automatically select the right type of HDR that the stream contains?
After going back-and-forth a bit, I found that I prefer to change the audio format to Dolby Digital 5.1 and then I just have my receiver set as always to up-mix to the height channels. The settings are very deceiving. Typically for as long as I can remember your options are to bitstream out or convert to linear PCM. This device reads as though PCM is normal or you’re converting to Dolby digital. Confusing 🤔 I feel like they configure these to be connected to TVs so you would want to have the two channel PCM option be default.
Setting Chroma 4:4:4 only seems to affect the menus. If I set 4:2:0 that's what I get in the menus, then when I play something in 4K SDR (my display won't do HDR) I find the chroma is being output as 4:4:4. Apple TV seems to ignore about half the settings half the time.
Gene, I have a 4k Firestick and I notice video judder and frame drops on the video signal for all streaming services. It is wireless and in the same rack as the router that has a 100MB service. Why is this happening? I noticed the Gen 3 is wireless only and the Gen 2 AppleTV has a wired connection, is this a problem on anyone else running wireless?
Thanks Gene, your video here has solved the mystery for me! Why did my AppleTV -> Denon 4400H -> HiSense HDR10 TV always look so darned washed out when I "correctly" set up the Apple TV to output "4K HDR". I found out by trial-and-error that my picture just looked so much better when I set the Apple TV to "4K SDR" (and yes, I still had Match Frame Rate and Match Dynamic Range both set to on), but I couldn't figure out why, and it's bugged me until today. Your great video here has both solved the mystery for me, and confirmed that the reason everything just looks so much better is because Apple TV is now properly sending SDR content as SDR, and not washing it out in with an HDR signal, and yet also automatically changing up to HDR when the source content requires. My flawed understanding was that I should set the TV setting to "4K HDR" and that "Match Dynamic Range" would cause the Apple TV to correctly downscale to SDR when needed - but that's not what happens. We need to set the TV setting to "4K SDR" and then "Match Dynamic Range" would cause the Apple TV to upscale to HDR when needed. Apple could certainly improve their UI to provide better guidance, IMHO. Thank you again!!!
Are you sure about this? If it’s setup at match content range and frame, why wouldn’t you enable HDR? I would think that Apple TV would know of native content is in SDR then it would match content and not upscale.
Will the video and audio quality be noticeably better with a streaming box like this or Roku 4k, than just using the built in apps in my Sony OLED tv? (eARC out to my receiver)
Any chance you could explain why we get a loss of signal or “blank out” when our devices switch from SDR to HDR and/or DV as your noted about 7m30s in? Even with all HDMI 2.1 devices. Should QMS be capable of these transitions or is it bigger than that? As always, greatly appreciate your knowledge sharing
I am being told QMS is what should resolve this and is an hdmi 2.1a expectation not an hdmi 2.1 expectation and no TVs through 2022 support it as of yet. Perhaps a firmware update if manufacturers choose to do so. Otherwise it’s something we have to verify with manufacturer’s before purchase. Like 2023 LGs are marketing now.
I think automatic mode should work and streaming services can of course stream their material with several different frame frequencies . Surely the best thing should be for Apple TV to send in the same frame rate that the streamed material contains
Always been an android person but you mentioned the atmos music app on Apple so many times I thought I need to try. I ordered from Amazon today. Will be here tomorrow. Will come back here when i am setting it up thanks.
Totally agree! AppleMusic with lossless spatial audio through a Dolby Atmos system is truly awesome! While it is not true to original 2 channel stuff (which is closest to original sound in a hall or club), it’s like you are in the middle of the music swimming in it. It’s on a different level from 2channel type stuff
How would you rate out of 10 the blueray Atmos mix of Hanns Zimmers live in Prague ? Trying to get a reference point of what constitutes a "good mix" thanks
If you understand how Atmos music is mixed, you will realize that it can be MORE like the real thing. Think of two channel as trying to put a gallon of milk in a quart bottle. Atmos breaks free from that limitation and allows each instrument to occupy its own spot in the performance space. Ringo’s drums can now be heard. The suppressed solo of a voice or a piano now has more detail. Keep in mind, above is with a true Atmos system. Not Spatial via headphones. Gene did a video all about this in 2022.
@@mongo2044 For myself my love of music grew while being part of orchestras, bands, etc… rather than sitting in the audience listening to it. So yeh, spatial audio is like being part of the band again - it’s how I relate to it. But that’s me. And also, a big YES to giving each instrument its own voice! 👍👍👍
If you’re on an older receiver that doesn’t do Atmos, do you still want to set the audio format to off?? Or do you set it to on and choose Dolby Digital 5.1?
I just like to say a very big thank you this is made a big difference to my Apple 4K TV watching this video I had it all set up wrong and now everything is going great thank you very much

I dont see dolby at os option what should i do? My 2022 apple tv is up to date
What hdmi cable do you suggest from your Apple TV to marantz sr5013 and from marantz av receiver to epson tw5650?
Have anyone found a fix for the audio out of sync with Apple TV yet?
same problem atv4k > denon > sony tv audio with match framerate out of sync, disable match framerate, perfect in sync audio
Running Apple TV 4K to Vizio sound bar hdmi in then my other port hdmi eARC out to my old 2016 Samsung 4K LED tv which I’m only using for video
should I connect sound bar via eARC to back TV (only ARC hdmi 3) or hdmi 1? Or maybe it doesn’t matter? Thx David
In my setup I connect apple tv 4k to a 1080p projector. And I wanna connect apple tv 4k wireless to samsung q990b and I wonder if you can get dolby atmos via airplay or bluetooth.
Thanks Gene, when setting mine up it didn’t switch to HDR or DV after being set at 4K SDR. Any ideas?
Question. I have a 2022 samsung qn75qn800b 8k tv and the new denon x4800h. Do you recommend having the peripherals for ex. Apple 4k tv directly to the avr or is it OK to pass through the tv? What are the pros and cons for each way?
Thank you I had multiple settings wrong for years . Randomly came across this video and now I know .
Hi I have apple TV 4k 3rd generation that supports HDR10+ My tv is samsung qn90b what settings is the best for my tv + apple 4k 2022 . Cheers
Does wanting HDR10+ for Samsung TV's change any of these settings?
Curious what you think the TV audio settings should be for the HDMI input ...bitstream or PCM? I'm using two HomePods in left and right configuration.
I have old but good main speakers JBL, center speaker Jamo and rear spearks JBL, if I buy a new receiver with dolby atmos, what kind of speakers must I buy?
Might be a dumb question if you have Apple TV built in to your tsp
You still recommend having the separate Apple TV unit?
Gene I did these settings works only with my Apple TV connected to my Hisense. When I connected the Apple TV directly on the back of my SR-8015 I was not able to get that 4.4.4 and 4k SDR with new HDMI cables any ideas
What about color balance using iphone
Do you need to turn on Dolby on even if you don’t have the extra speakers or even receiver with Dolby atmos?
Does Denon/Marantz “height virtualization” actually do anything for a room like mine with mechanical intrusions that ruin the placement of atmos height channels?
I set it up with my iPhone. The Apple TV asked “Home or My Home”? Which should I choose Home or My Home? Great video!
With the audio if you only have Dolby 5.1 should you still turn audio off and select that? Apple says you will lose your surround sound when you turn auto off
Hi Gene, I am using below
Following ar emu set up with your recommendations.
1. PROJECTOR connected with eARC to Emotiva MR1 AV receiver (2.0b HDMI)
2. HDMI cable I am using is 2.1
If I have a non Dolby Atmos soundbar, should I set the audio to change format “on” and select Dolby Digital 5.1 or leave change format to off?
but when I use infuse, it cant decode dts or whatever format audio, it always output pcm, and I check the audio output is tv, not my receiver , how to change the default audio output
Hi,
Would like to say a big thank you for set up of Apple 4K, since taking your direction on setup I have found that UA-cam is not buffering between adverts/commercials while watching videos.
I would like to go with 2 but not sure at the budget I can at the moment
Thank you
Thanks for the guide. I tried these on my Apple tv connected to Yamaha tsr-700 which connects to TCL tv. When content changes from Dolby vision to SDR whole screen gets a purple filter on it. Not sure whats wrong
Unplug it all then back in and power up in sequence (ref. Yamaha manual) so the HDMI ecosystem has the cob webs removed and see if that fixes it.
Does the Apply Tv 4K streaming box provide better video and audio than the apps on my LG OLED CX tv?
likely yes
Thank you!
@@Audioholics why?
I have connected Apple TV 4K to AVR Denon X1400H configured 5.1.2 (atmos).
Every time I turn on the system the AVR volume is always very high.
This doesn’t happen when I play DVD player or Spotify direct streaming on AVR.
What could be reason
Very good good stuff thank you this was something I really needed to know thank you
Would there be any difference in sound when we compare a movie purchased/rented on Apple TV store versus streaming the same movie (with same sound format.. let’s say Dolby atmos )on a streaming platform on Apple TV..?
I believe HDMI4 is the high res input on Sony TVs. Did you try that?
@@Audioholics thanks for your reply. Yes, you are right but I have connected PS5 on this port. I guess I am out of luck?
How about the Atmos decode ? Is it pass through to AVR or still.decode Atmos in the 4kApple TV that shows PCM in the AVR like previous version ? Thanks
Your AVR should display Atmos despite AppleTV uses MAT format.
@@Audioholics thanks, so does it sounds better compare to Nvidia shield or Google Chromecast have the pass through that decode by the AVR ?
But I have heard that Apple TV has Auto Frame rate. which is based on the stream material's images per second. Shouldn't it also be able to automatically select the right type of HDR that the stream contains?
It does
After going back-and-forth a bit, I found that I prefer to change the audio format to Dolby Digital 5.1 and then I just have my receiver set as always to up-mix to the height channels. The settings are very deceiving. Typically for as long as I can remember your options are to bitstream out or convert to linear PCM. This device reads as though PCM is normal or you’re converting to Dolby digital. Confusing 🤔
I feel like they configure these to be connected to TVs so you would want to have the two channel PCM option be default.
Is it normal that LGC1 doesn’t give any notification for ULTRA HD 4K content, like it does with Dolby Vision? With these exact settings.
Why YCbCr 4:4:4 not RGB High?
Will the video and audio quality be noticeably better with a streaming box like this or Roku 4k, than just using the built in apps in my Sony OLED tv?
(eARC out to my receiver)
Same question here! Great video as usual.
Image streaming with tv apps will look just as good but Sony tv will only do 60hz for movies vs the preferred 24hz on the Apple TV.
Your tuff man Gene! Making ur brother wait until you released this video to get his info!!
Does the AVR output Dolby Atmos or Dolby Surround? UA-cam (music) has some good content, but only Dolby Surround output.
UA-cam Dolby atmos is highly compressed and sounds like trash. Use Apple Music or Tidal.
Here is that video: ua-cam.com/video/ZyoXdgcmOa0/v-deo.html
The Atmos is not lossless.
If you’re on an older receiver that doesn’t do Atmos, do you still want to set the audio format to off?? Or do you set it to on and choose Dolby Digital 5.1?
If you're running a 5.1 or higher receiver, you can leave it on. It will only play 5.1 layer.
I just like to say a very big thank you this is made a big difference to my Apple 4K TV watching this video I had it all set up wrong and now everything is going great thank you very much
