@@rickymac54321 If private companies make up a monopoly on online communication, and then start censoring certain topics and viewpoints, then what is the difference? Whether its the government or the corporations doing it, if communication is censored, the end result is the same.

@@finn3102 sadly we never met. Her messages seemed robotic after a while and she promised to visit me but never did. So I thought about making plans to go to China but restrictions were too high for Americans. Eventually I found out she was using the sites services to write on her behalf so I wasn’t writing her most of the time. I decided to cut it off. I actually thought about her recently and then thought about writing her again. But then you commented on my thread so now I think it’s meant to be lol. I may give her another shot
@@ezradegreat Yeah.. I have also chatted with women in other countries like that. All that time spent, and it often goes nowhere. I guess it is worth a try though, especially for people like me who don't get out much.

I cut all social media when I realized that everyone online doesn't really care and how loneliness impact our day to day, I started to get bored during my days and got bursts of creativity and motivation. I became more productive and started going out more often these days. My next goal is to start gym next month when I get paid. Online messaging in my opinion does more harm than being in solitude, try to speak with people in person, go to university, clubs or social events more often, you will have fun.
This is absolutely crazy that this is going on in 2024.

Only a samll percentage of Chinese internet users have the desire or need to bypass the Chinese firewall to access websites like youtube or facebook, they are just too used to their own Chinese equivalents. Those who want to can easily use a VPN and it's very cheap. And the internet privacy thing is also overrated for the law abiding Chinese citizens. No one cares if the government can access their footprints if they don't intent to break any law.

Kind of agree with you too. I live in China now. They can block what they like, and yes I only really need Chinese social media here. The only thing I disagree is some of the past events and atrocities committed by the government that it suppresses from it's citizens knowing about. It's better to be informed of the past atrocities to not repeat it than to sweep it under the rug.

Let’s concentrate on the censorship in our own country, which we supposedly have some legitimate control over, rather than interfering with other countries. For example we are censoring all Russian media right now, which is akin to North Korea censoring access to US mainstream media for example. But when others censor we call it out but when we censor we cheer it. Or take Assange - we should complain about freeing him rather than complaining about something outside of our sovereignty.
What are you talking about? We can LITERALLY look up any Russian news station that Russia allows to be uploaded.

CCP prevents BBC, CNN, Facebook (and Messenger), Gmail, Google Apps (e.g. Calendar, Docs, Hangouts, Maps, etc), Hootsuite, Instagram, OneDrive, AO3, New York Times, Pinterest, Reddit, Reuters, Slack, Snapchat, Spotify, Twitch, Twitter, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post (and about 30% of western news sites), Wikipedia, WhatsApp, Daily Motion, Vimeo, Periscope, Soundcloud, and UA-cam from its mainland borders, and the CCP maintains its massively influential propaganda presence on all those western platforms. US demokkkrats want those same sites censored as well.
