I can't stand being in the shower forever on wash day. I started detangling the day before wash day with water in a spray bottle and Aunt Jackie's Knot On My Watch. It goes quickly and I put my hair in 4 twists. The next day I'm in and out of the shower and there's hardly any shed hair to deal with. I love it.

I no longer detangle in the shower. Using heat has helped with the detangle issue. Keeping the hair stretched has saved me time. I was doing way too much damage in the shower.

I have about 15 braids, I wash condition and moisturize in those same braids and as you do, I take each braid down to detangle (hair is not as tangled to detangle much), remove shed hairs and re-braid, haven't had single strand knots at all. It's much easier and not time consuming. This has helped me retain length very well. (Low Porosity, 4c [4z] hair, fine strands, medium-high density hair)

I usually solely finger-detectangle in the shower. Now that it's longer it's getting difficult to go through my hair with my fingers and detangle. So I usually wait until after I blow dry my hair to thoroughly detangle it with my tangle teezer. Usually, I would have no problem but since my hair has gotten longer I have to go in smaller sections. I have to detangle in smaller sections to get out the tangles in my roots. I recently bought a paddle comb from Kazmaleje. I'm going to try it out during wash day a see how it goes. Also, a culprit to this issue is that I've been prolonging washing a little bit too far. I've been doing mini twists for the past 7 months. After I wash my hair I put it in 4 chunky flat twists and wait 1 week to do mini twists then leave them in for 4 weeks. This is 5 weeks of not washing my hair. My twist would start to lock after 3 weeks in the lower nape. So now I decided to take a break from mini twists for about 6 months. I'm also going to stick to washing my hair every 3 to 4 weeks consistently while wear my hair in medium size flat twists. For the winter I can manage every 4 weeks. Summer time is where I will be wash every 3 weeks since my scalp sweats a lot in the summer time.

I would say you were using the wrong brush. My daughter and I have lord tightly coiled kinky hair. I finger detangle first. We keep hair moisturized with Mielle Pomegranate leave in. We shampoo with Herbal Shea fruit in flowers shampoo by Indigenous Strandz. It is the ONLY shampoo that hasn’t caused matting tangling and knots. My favorite deep conditioning Mask is Camille Rose Algae Renew. Anywho after finger detangling in sections, I use a smaller Wet brush. If I use a comb then 1st it’s the Wet Wide tooth shower comb then a medium tooth comb then tangle teaser type detangle brush. Gentle and slow in sections. I never force. I blow dry with Consir Knot Doctor blow dryer paddle brush. Easy leash. The key is gradual progression from large teeth to small. De man type brush is a NO.
