      @@Wrc650 you could make the main part of the belt raised. Just keep it flat where the chape on top goes

    Awesome job bro. Thanks for showing that the Leather doesn’t have to be completely straight. I’m fairly new to the craft and little things help so much. Also btw, “How Cold Was It Bro” ???? Lol. 🤣👍

      Hunter Green I am glad it helps. There was snow on the ground. So I recon it must have been cold. I don’t turn the heating on when I am working. I even had the windows open and only closed for the video to reduce noise. I tend to work fast. The videos slow me down. The belt I made before the video would have taken 20 mins and the same belt for the video would have been an hour. Running around that bored keeps you hot

    Just use the table edge to run a straight line on the edge. Nail the tail down it’s so much easier,

      Thomas Beckett I worked in the top factory’s in my life. They cut hundreds of strips a week using the plough gauge. It is a fast and accurate tool. If you mean getting the edge straight on a new piece of leather. The way we do it in the trade is run a ruler down then cut the straight line. Using a round knife. I’ve never seen anyone use a table. But if it works for you. That is the way you should do it

      UK Saddlery actually due to my limitations on area to use ...I often punch a hole , put a hook into that, and hang the leather from a door , no table at all ... the cuts are straight and easy.. that’s how I do it ... but the guy that taught me used a table edge.

      Thomas Beckett if it works for you then it is the way you should do it. I am more a saddle maker than a strap goods maker. However I do it the way the cutters in the factory taught me. They cut hundreds every week and it’s a easy fast way to do it. I made 6 saddles every week. Doing that amount you learn fast ways.

    Is that a draw gauge your using to cut the strips of leather? Do you find it more accurate than the wooden strap cutters Tandy and the like sell? I always struggle with the wooden ones to get a nice even strap!
    Another great informative video thanks.

      Andy Brocklehurst it is a plough gauge I think they cost about 400 pounds new and second hand about 150. I have never used the wooden ones. The plough is a great tool

    May I ask what that slab material is that you are doing your hole punching on?

    • @UKSaddlerytrainingcoursesuk
      @UKSaddlerytrainingcoursesuk  6 років тому

      Eugene Murray it is a nylon block. I have had that for about 20 years. I also use a wood block. I have no preference it’s down to what one I pick up
