- A popular question we get in the shop is how to taper a leather belt to fit a certain buckle size? We show you in this video an easy way to accomplish this. I show you the math and how to keep it centered and balanced.
I also have made a simple jig in our shop so that we don't have to do math every time we want to make a belt... that's no fun at all!
If you would like a FREE copy of this jig pattern so you can make you own, then click this link, put your email address in and you will have a copy to print out on your printer: dgsaddlery.com/belttaperpattern/
If you like math and want to see another video that I show you how to center the name on a belt, then here is a video we did on that... calculator not necessary: • UA-cam Q&A 2: How to ...
Although I'll probably never use this information I find it fascinating! I had no idea how much technical details go into this hand crafted work, well done.
This is the best video explaining how to layout a belt that I've seen. Great info and thanks for sharing.
Thank you for another great video Don, and thanks for the PDF! You're the best!

Excelente no entiendo el idioma pero con solo ver aprendo mucho saludos
Do you have a taper template for a 3” belt?
I’m going to start tapering a few of my 3” gun belts. This would be a huge help !
Good!!!
Hi, great video but cannot find the link to down load the pattern
Thank You, would this be a Ranger belt?
Love your work and videos. Why don't you include the buckle length in the measurement of a belt? It seems like the belt would be about an 1.5" too big for a standard buckle. Thanks.
Does the measurements change using 2 pieces of leather? (8/9 oz. Leather) trying to get the right measurements. Thanks
I guess I'm just dense, but doesn't the belt buckle type on the customer's existing belt affect the belt length when measuring from the bend to the hole they measure to? How do you take into account the buckle they will use if it's different? Meanwhile I'm a big fan. Love your work. Wish I had your talent!
you don't measure from the buckle, you measure from the leather at the turn where the buckle is (start of leather not start of tip of buckle)
Don, how can I buy a belt pattern, some good and practical models that you use, I'm from Brazil how do I pay?
How would you measure the belt length for a customer who is a 36 with a standard buckle, but is wanting to change to a trophy style buckle?
Add an inch and a half
