- Making a handmade leather belt. There's plenty of videos out there showing you how to take a simple strap and add a buckle, but what about measurements? What about lining your belt so that it is heavy duty and professional? We show you how we make a professional belt at Maker's Leather Supply. This belt will last for years and only look better with age and patina.
Thank you Aaron, thank you for your service protecting us at home.🇺🇸
What size oblong punch did you use?
I have watched many... many... belt clips. Yours is the first that makes fracken sense. Simple and clear. Thank you.
Hi Aaron. I noticed that when you itemized the tools that you would be using today, you left out the one indispensable item on your bench that I consider to be the most important one...
COFFEE!
I can't do anything without it! :)
All kidding aside, you do a great job of explaining what must be done. What is important and what is not. Thanks for the video!
You are very correct! I just don't want to offend the non-caffinated.
Just found your channel. Thanks for the video. Very informative and shows knowledge of leathercraft.
I'll go back over your Playlist at previous videos.
God bless ya'll and stay safe on your travels through life.
Very thorough
"The tip of it is just as important....maybe even more important" I had to giggle when you said that cause it is so true ;) great vid as always
Thanks for taking your valuable time, Aaron, you are a good teacher. G
I really appreciate your time and patience in this explanation!!!
I was new once too... and I sure wish UA-cam was a thing back then! Thanks for watching!
Always enjoy your videos... I pick something up from each one... thanks for sharing the knowledge with us.
Great video Aaron! Thanks for taking the time to make it! Your alright in my book 😉
I try real hard...! Ha ha ha
Thanks Aaron find your videos very helpfull
Excellent videos. Thankyou.
I like the pre made belt with all the holes to find the belt size. Since you use Chicago screws, have them select the buckle and put it on the sizing belt before you take the measurement.
Thanks mate, I'm from "down unda" Australia. Great informative video.

Great video!!!! Thank you for your videos
I like your videos, and this one is one of the best. Sir, thank you for all info and experience you are willing to share ...
Great tips, great video.
Very good video. I’d like to see you do one on using your leather splitter.
That's funny winter and summer notches.
Mention the garment industry's practice of vanity sizing. On my first belt I ever made my son told me he wore size 32 pants so I made the center hole at 32 inches. Well I use five holes 1 1/4" apart and he actually measured 35 inches and he could barely fit into the last hole. I gave the belt to my maintenance man for his teen aged son (who was very pleased to have a custom belt).
I don't know when they started doing vanity sizing on jeans and what not, but back in the 70's my pant size and waist were the same within an inch. Women's clothes have always had vanity sizing. I have pants that range from 42 to 48 and all fit me and waist measures 48, a range of 6".
Very very nice
For the roller I use a heavy nonstick coated rolling pin, you can do the whole belt in one shot.
Really useful, thanks 🙏🏻
Another great video. And as someone on disability and a limited income I thank you for showing what I call the “ poor boy methods”.
The measuring belt👍👍
Great Work Aaron! Not sure if you've done a shop tour video but would love to see it.
We may just have to do one... once I clean the place up! Ha ha ha
What brand of half round punch do you use?
Thanks Aaron, I am making my first belt. Your video will definitely help. One thing you kind of talked around was the buckle size and taking that into consideration. If I understood you, I will need to measure from the middle of the belt buckle rather than the fold in the belt. Correct? Thanks, Jack
Yessir
I thought you measured from the bend? Now I'm confused
Would one have to line the belt? I stopped into your shop a few weeks ago and bought some belt blanks to start to play around with but didn’t think about lining and sewing... thinking just a single layer of belt blank and maybe some stamping down the edges.... thoughts?
That would work fine. There are many nice single ply belts out there.
Thank you so much! Where is your buckle from?
It's a heavy duty buckle from Tandy. Every belt I made in my shop left with this buckle on it unless the customer requested something else.

Do you like making saddles

Question 🙋🏽♂️ so how thick would you recommend going on a work tool belt for some bags?
Do you know anybody burns the edges for just aged look
Hey! If you were going to try and make a leather watch roll, what type of leather would you use?!
Love this vid!
Great video what glue do you use?
How thick is the liner in mm and is it veg tan leather.
How do you account for differences in size of buckles when asking for measurements? I find that if I ask for the measurement from the bend, the belt will sometimes not fit well because my buckles are different in size versus what was on their belt. I usually ask for the measurement from the inside of the buckle end.
You have to account for their buckle. Many will have their own buckle that they will transfer over.
@@makersleathersupply1220 Thanks for clarifying that. Have a good one!
Aaron on buckle end what would you say is a good measurement to use if i dont have the template. I have watched videos that say 2 1/4 inches, 3 inches etc.
I want a shirt like that!!!
Thank you for pausing the video for the boring parts. Good video
Great video...what size thread did you use on the top, I recall that you said you had #277 on the bobbin?
On one of these I normally use 138 top and bottom. Having the thicker thread on the bobbin was just an accident here.
What size Chicago Screws did you use on this belt?
1/4” long
@@makersleathersupply1220 Thank You
I’ve got more money than time, so how could I purchase the belt you just made in this video? Tom KC3QAC
That belt is well worn by now :)
Is it ok to use chrome tanned foor the belt liner? I like to use a dark or light contrasting liner.
Yes it is as long as it's a good sturdy leather.
who made your stylus? do they offer them for sale?
Nice work ! Where can I find the stitching pattern for that belt?
Www.makersleathersupply.com. it is called the gunslinger stitch pattern
Concerning the liner... Top grain or flesh side out?
I prefer the top grain side for a more refined look.
Could you line that belt without sewing the edges is that possible
I have done it... you have to have some damn good contact cenent and make sure to cover it all the way to the edges.
Where did you get your trim knife at please
We have it at www.makersleathersupply.com
Can oil/chrome tanned leather be used for the top layer with veg-tan for the inside layer?
Yes, just keep in mind that the edges will be more difficult to finish.
@@makersleathersupply1220 do you have any tips on finishing Chrome/Oil tanned edges? No matter what I try nothing seems to produce nice clean edges.
@@bobm8128 edge ink for those type leathers.
@@makersleathersupply1220 Thank you
What length staples do you recommend for the keeper?
3/8 is what I believe I have
Thanks!
Hello Aaron. I am looking to purchase a Cobra Class 26 sewing machine. Can this machine handle a sewing task like the construction of this belt? I would only be sewing belts. No more than 15oz total leather weight. Thank you for your help.
Yessir, the Class 26 can easily handle a 15 oz belt.
Makers Leather Supply Thank you very much for the response. I appreciate the help and your videos.
@@callesleather sorry I didnt see this sooner, I try to reply quickly
👏👏
On your squeaky toy you can put none staining sewing machine oil
U don't like beveling the edges
I do my oblong by punching the round holes at each end, then use a wood chisel to cut the long sides...
