I’m so glad! They are definitely worth reading, though the 4th is probably the weakest since it lacks POV chapters from Tyrion, J Snow, and Dany. Still good though! Good luck with the next two books ☺️
I'm in the same boat, having watched the show before reading the books but I'm actually glad I did. GRRM's style is so dense and descriptive, like you said, that already having a grasp on the basics of the plot and who the characters were allowed me to pay much closer attention to the details, the setting, and also to pick up on the immense amount of foreshadowing. I'm now addicted to ASoIaF.
It took me eight months to finish the audio book (I know, kinda embarrassing) and this video made a great refresher, now I'm caught up enough to start book 2 :)
I’m glad I helped refresh you! I mean not that embarrassing when you consider the sheer size of the series and the books themselves - always takes me a while to finish them even when I read a lot!
100 percent agree! I read the books first and had a hard time watching the show and honestly stopped after a few episodes. Also, great video overall! I came here to refresh my memory before reading A Storm of Swords and you really helped.
That is so nice of you to say! I love this book series so far and can't wait for the Winds of Winter! Definitely love Peter Dinklage, he is one of the best actors around today. He is much more handsome than how Tyrion is described in the books, but that's bound to happen with TV lol
Kayla Christenson you’re welcome! When do you think Winds of Winter will be released? 😂 it would be interesting to see an accurate appearance of Tyrion in real life.. thank you for responding :)
@@beccarosex Good question. Apparently he has been really dedicating the past few months to writing it, so I'm cautiously optimistic that it could be released in early 2021, which would be so great! Yes, a more accurate Tyrion would be very interesting, though Peter Dinklage just nailed that role so it would be a hard act to follow!
They are really good, I definitely recommend. Audiobook would be a great idea since they are so long. I would say they start to be quite different from the show around the third book, so its still interesting.
Hi Kayla! Just curious how long did it take you to read this book? I watched the first 3 seasons and I thought it was ok. Not the greatest show but not the worst. (House of the dragon is wayy superior imo) but anyway, I ask mainly bc the main issue I’m worried about is both the length and the number of characters. You mentioned the book multiplies the number of characters massively lol. Was it hard to remember peoples names and get through it overall? Thanks!
I don’t remember exactly how long, but I believe it was a little over a week (of reading very frequently). It is a time commitment but if you have seen the show then that helps a lot with keeping characters straight, even though there are more in the books, simply because you already know some of them from the show. Plus a lot of the extra characters are tertiary. I would recommend as I think it’s simply better than the show and you really find out how much better in the second book IMO! Definitely a time commitment but worth a shot
"I don't have enough people to discuss this", my lady, you have a friend now 😁✌️my favorite character is Tyrion Lannister but my loyalty is on the House Stark 🐺
The book is always better, it is known. The second read is better still. I was blown away by how much depth still remained when i read them again. Arya asks Jon why he's not down in the practice yard with Robb and Joffrey and the rest sparring. His response 'bastards are not allowed to damage princes' for instance, is the most clever thing i've ever read. There is an exactly 0% chance anyone spotted this on their first read.
I'm excited to read them again because I really enjoy catching things I missed before and anticipating things that I remember. That is a great line, btw.
@@laconsuela69 Jon is the prince, Joffrey the bastard, which is the exact opposite of what Jon thought he was saying. Jon doesnt know, Joffrey doesnt know, the reader doesnt know. The second time you read, things seem to have different meanings than they did the first time around. I never suspected what was up, but he was telling us in plain english from the start.
I actually read the first and second book and its been a while.. I came here to revise so I can read the third book. Your video was tremendously helpful. 😅😊 You said discussion was appreciated, so here goes😁 I absolutely loved the book. I remember reading the book at midnight in my hostel room with a torch stuck under my chin ( because the lights were out as my roommate had to sleep😅) until I fell asleep. I never expected it to be such a page turner. Not like Dan Brown level page turner, still.. I enjoyed the whole experience. To talk about the negatives that I found; - The book was so heavy it made your wrists ache after long reading sessions.😂 -My brothers love reading books too but I couldn't give it to them because (ahem ahem) I wish there was a children rated version of the book. 11 yr old and 14 yr. - The characters are SO hard to keep a track of, also me being lousy with remembering names doesn't help either. Anyways.. keep uploading and good luck. (Always love bookworm company)🙌 subbed
Thanks! I’m glad it was helpful. Yes, I believe my wrists got much stronger after finishing head books 😆 I definitely agree that it can be difficult to keep track of characters (mostly tertiary and small supporting characters, for me at least). It certainly is quite an adult fantasy, for better or worse!
@@kaylachristenson9664 I'm actually going to read the 3rd book digitally so that my wrists are more comfy and I can just long press for the meaning. #vocabularyGoals 😅
This is the first video of yours that I’ve watched. You are literally the most whitegirl of whitegirls. That’s not an insult BTW. You’re just like a condensed version of things that we associate with whitegirls.
I read the first 3 books 5 years ago and now I want to read the last 2 ones, so your videos are really helping me recap the storyline
I’m so glad! They are definitely worth reading, though the 4th is probably the weakest since it lacks POV chapters from Tyrion, J Snow, and Dany. Still good though! Good luck with the next two books ☺️
Hey, Joao I'm in the same situation as you. Any suggestions?
@@v1k1ng43 her videos were great to catch up with the first 3 books. It was quite easy to then read the last 2.

Glad I could help! Yes as usual the books are just more complex and include so much more
Great review!!! I loooved the series, and on book 4 of the series. Will be watching your other book reviews :) thank you
And I agree that Tyrion is portrayed very similar in the movie to the book!! Super actor

Read the books after season 6 and they were amazing, got another friend to read them and we would discuss them for hours lol
Ohh that would be so fun! I only have one friend who is reading them and he is still on the 2nd book. I love discussing them though!
