You know this pumpkin pie has to taste so good if it makes you dance when you eat it!!! Carry on Lady!! It looks great! We are going to add this to our fall menu. 😘
I honestly love it
I wish I was your neighbor...I would be right over to sample those lovely pies...lol! You were so upbeat today and obviously loving what you were doing! You bring me such joy every day I see a post from you. I still stand with my original statement about you...You are Fierce!!!!! Big hugs and many blessings, sweet Jessica!
Alison, I wished I was her neighbor too I would be over there every day. She's such a sweet woman and love her cooking
I can’t get enough of you!!! Thank you!!!
Thank you both! My beautiful neighbor when she is here comes over quite a bit! But funny story she is always being us treats.
Those pies look so enticing! My crust is very similar to yours, I use Julia Child’s sweet pastry, to the T and have never had a problem. I often use the seasonal “baby cookie cutters” to fancy both sweet and savory pies. The exception being lemon meringue !!
I have to be honest, as a new bride I made pumpkin filling from scratch! It was a disaster, mostly because I had no idea what I was doing. The recipe assumed I did!
My poor groom attempted to eat it by using an entire can of whipped cream. God bless him!!
I have had the mini pies made for entertaining, but the caterer used the tiny, well greased cupcake pans. She said she never was successful with paper liners.
I thought that you were going to point out snow flakes in that rain!! Love you.
❤️Momma G
Lol no snow! It had already snowed several times by now last year. Still in the 40s and upper 30s for the next 10 days. Not even had a freeze yet! Crazy.
My granddaughter and I made your grandmother in laws pumpkin pie. We cooked two pie pumpkins and it yielded almost 4 cups of pumpkin puree after we used the food mill. Today we made the pie and my Harold said it tasted just like his mom's and he loved it. It was a real compliment as he is an eat to live not a love to eat kind of guy. We roasted the seeds yesterday and they turned out really good too. I am going to the Farmer's Market tomorrow for more pumpkin so we can freeze some puree for Thanksgiving. The extra in the muffin tins is a great idea and Elise and I will do that for the kids at Thanksgiving. Thank you for sharing the recipe.
Oh my goodness! This seriously makes my heart happy!
Just came home from work with a big pumpkin to make soup with, cut it all up and thought that's too much for soup I wonder how much you need to make a pie. Then litrally this video comes up on my feed. As an English girl I have never made pumpkin pie, I'm an apple or rhubarb kinda girl.
Thank you for this perfectly timed video, I can't believe you use vapa in it too, I grew up on vapa as cream was too expensive.
Looks like it's soup and pie this weekend yippy.
Girlll make the pumpkin pie you will love it! That is if you like pie and pumpkin!
Hi Jessica, I`m so motivated to try these recipes out. I have a similar recipe from my German mother in law for apple pie with a crumble crust on top, also very delicious. And I looove pumpkin pie since I tasted it the first time 30 years ago on our trip in New England. Looking forward to your next videos. Thank you for showing and teaching us about your homestead. Greetings from Switzerland❤
Wow thank you! Thank you for watching in Switzerland
More tips for the extra pumpkin- they are delicious in graham cracker crust tarts, Also put a ginger snap in the bottom of your muffin cup or custard dish and fill with pumpkin! Yum! (My family loves the graham cracker crust for a whole pie. I have always wanted to try a gingersnap crumb crust but have never gotten around to it. ) I also broila brown sugar pecan or walnut topping on my pumpkin pie. Double Yum. Brown sugar, chopped nuts and butter mixed well and sprinkled over the top. Broil for just a couple minutes-keep an eye on it.
Oh my so many GREAT!!! Ideas!!
Jessica your pies looked wonderful, i hope you are enjoying a beautiful Fall in Alaska.
It was beautiful
Good Morning 🌞 and have a great day
Good morning sunshine!
they look amazing, To be honest i am 60 year old and i have Never tasted pumpkin, or made a pumpkin pie ever in my life i dont know if the pastry-cake shops(in the UK )even bake them ,But if i ever see any in the shops i will defo go buy 1 .Thank you for sharing
Oh my this is so mind blowing to us here on pumpkins. But it’s clearly not a popular thing in other parts! But if you ever get the chance go give it a try!
Looks so good. Saw on Moss tv yesterday they smoked pumpkins and than made the mixture for 2 pies and put it in pie crust and than smoked the pumpkin pies they said were really good. Don't know if you ever heard of that. Have a blessed day!!
That is a very different approach
Another fabulous video, my pumpkins are nearly ready in the garden, can't wait to try this pie crust recipe.
Yeah!!! They will be ready just in time for the holidays!
I take leftover pie crust and I put the leftover pumpkin pie on top of the little pie crust to make like little pumpkin pie cookies
Great idea
I don’t know if you knew it or not but that cookbook is going for $127.00 on Amazon. I would pass it along to the younger cook in your family. Keep it in the family.
Wow and a viewer gifted me the new one. It was going for around $27
There are some less expensive ones on eBay - it's totally worth buying - I have it too!
Thanks. I found one in Dallas, TX for $34. I ordered it and can’t wait to get it.
I found a used one in Dallas, TX for $34. It’s on it’s way to my kitchen!
@@modernhomesteadalaska there’s a new version?
Oh no….now I need to make a pumpkin pie. Your recipe is almost identical to mine. So yummy and creamy. Happy Friday Jessica. Today I am burning brush, so watching you, having a bush mocha and enjoying the lovely fall day 🇨🇦🌷
Oh happy fall to you!
I buy a bunch of pumpkins from a farm up the street when they mark them down at the end of the season. Then I roast, puree and freeze in 2 cup bags. It just makes a lighter looking pie. Also butternut squash makes a yummy "pumpkin" pie too.
We made this pumkin pie recipe today. Plus the pie shell. We loved it! My little girls want some for breakfast 😋 I don't have a deep dish pie pan so it made 2 pies for us. Sent some to the neighbors and they said send it anytime. Lol! I'm hoping to pick up some apples from the Amish tomorrow and totally want to try the apple pie next! Thank you!
Wow this just made my day and my heart happy. I was right then two normal size pies.
Jessica, They both look awesome! Thank you so much for sharing. Have a blessed day.
Thank you for watching
Never been a huge pumpkin pie fan but that sure looks tempting to make! 😃
So yummy!
That is my favorite pie, love the muffin tin idea.

Yeah thank you!
Chelsea from Little Mountain Ranch(from British Columbia Canada) loves old cookbooks and people send them to her. If you like old recipe books too maybe send her a message and she might be able to help you find more old recipe books too. Thank you for being such a wonderful person.
Love it
I love this series good on you girl.

Continue to love your channel. Not a fan of pumpkin (sorry) but my family all LOVES it. Have you ever tried an impossible pumpkin pie? There's no crust. My kids eat just pick it up and eat it. I'm hoping to preserve pumpkins because they love it. Thank you!!!
Hi Jessica! I’m a more recent subscriber (two months or so), and I just wanted to say - keep up the awesome content! I really enjoy watching your channel, specifically cooking/preservation as that is my passion too. Have an awesome weekend ❤ (and thanks for the pie inspiration- going to get baking my pumpkins now!)
Yeah thank you!
Beautiful pies!
Thank you
Looks great.I use fresh pumpkins to.
Yeah I woman after my own heart.
We also live outside of Wasilla. Watching your video inspired me to cook up some items from fresh pumpkin today. Roasted the pumpkins this morning. Now I'm mixing up some breakfast muffins as we speak. Thank you for the inspiration!
Hello. Nice to meet you. That sounds yummy.
A W E S O M E PU M PKI N. P I E ! And! I don’t care for pumpkin pie….but, I watched every minute of this video! Hugs, Bev In Maine
Oh that’s great! Thank you!
I am so freaking excited!!!! I found the cookbook on Etsy for $49 and bought it.
That is seriously so amazing! We can work through it together!
@@modernhomesteadalaska that would be amazing!!!!
I have only used canned pumpkin when making a pie. I may need to try one/two using fresh pumpkins! The apple pies looked SO good!
Oh it’s so very good!
Your pies look so good. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching
Pumpkin is my favorite 😊
Totally agree
Like really I could almost smell those delicious pies! Lol!! You are an amazing cook! Loved this video!! I love spice tea… do you have a recipe for spiced teas? I would love for you to do a video on that if possible! I want to be able to use tang and instant tea. Ty so much for sharing all these wonderful tips and tricks
Oh I’ll share our holiday drink it’s a simple one. I have never made the tang one though.
@ModernHomsteadAlaska
I love all the cooking videos…I’ve never made a pumpkin pie from the actual pumpkin (always used the canned ones) BUT this year…I’m determined to make the whole thing from scratch.
You can do it I’m sure of it!
Wow that looks so good . 🥰🙏💕🕊🇨🇦
Thank you!
Love this so now I think I will be making pies until I have perfected these
Yeah go fir it!
I use the Better Crocker Cookbook oil pie crust. It's so quick and easy and I've had tons of compliments on it.
My mother in law uses that too!
thanks really a lot, i was juste beginning to look for a receipe to try a really american pumpkin pie ..... you can be sure I'll try it in the next weeks ;) hugs from france
It’s a very very traditional pie. You will be a star with it!
Looks delicious.
You should try spiced pumpkin…make it just like spiced apples….love it with turkey or pork chops
Oh yummy sounds great!
Just picked up several pie pumpkins cannot wait to try your recipe, thank you for sharing.
Yeah! I’m so happy!
Pies and cakes are my favorite things to bake. Apple dumplings with a caramel sauce is our very favorite in the Fall. I'd love that pat pat sound of rain in the woods. You have such a beautiful view. Thank you for you inspiring sharing, you are a blessing to watch!
Wow that’s so kind thank you so much.
My mother-in-law use to make fresh squash pie every Thanksgiving - probably much the same as you made your pumpkin pie.
Oh that sounds good
Hi Jessica - love these make from scratch videos. Your pies look absolutely amazing.
Wonderful I’m so happy!
My daughter would be standing over you wanting the seeds to roast!!
Lol she could have them I have tried and failed 109 times
Thank you Jessica 🙂 looks delicious
Thank you!
I just ordered mine 3 minutes ago ! I can’t wait to get it next week.
Yeah so fun!
I loved this video...Nothing better than homemade fall pies. I am from the Kenai Peninsula and this is the time for making all the soups, stews, breads and pies. Can't wait to make a pumpkin pie 😋
Amen it’s full cozy season here
The view ot your back door was gorgeous in the light rain! And the pies looked scrumptious! Yum, homemade apple pie; I can easily imagine how incredible it tastes! 🥧🍎🍏🥧🍏🍎🥧 Perfection for an autumn treat.
Totally agree! Thank you!
Hey 👋, I'm a relatively new subscriber and I an absolute loving your channel ❤ lot of love from the Scottish Highlands ❤️ xx

I may need to do a pumpkin pie lol

This video just got added to my playlist of “foods to make” 👍🏻🙏🏼🇺🇸❤️

I couldn’t agree more!

Hello Eva! Thank you so much.
Hi from Mississippi
Hello from Alaska
That pie looks AMAZING!!! Very smart to make the little individual pies with the leftover filling! I wonderful if they would freeze well?
It worked out great
You have a beautiful piece of property. I’m in WV now but I miss the north west so much.
Hello thank you for being here
Excited to try your pies, I get my pumpkin every year from our pumpkin festival in Ohio
Oh I love it! Just planted baking pumpkins today!
I so appreciate this video. I have made homemade pumpkin pies for years, but with canned pumpkin. Many years ago, I attempted pumpkin pies with fresh pumpkin, and I couldn’t figure out how to get rid of all the liquid (which sort of ruined the pies). So, I’ve used can pumpkin ever since. Your method has given me confidence to try fresh pumpkin again. Also, I’ve always wanted to make apple pie. I’m excited to try your recipe! Thank you, Jessica!!!
Yeah so happy to help
If you like old cook books you might like watching "glen and friend cooking" on youtube. " He cooks historical recipes from pre-ww2 cookbooks, depression era recipes and recipes from his cookbook collection back to the 1600s." Just thought you might like.
Do you watch English Heritage? I’m so amazed by them. It’s super old ways of doing things. Here is one on pie.

Hahaha... hooked on making pies? Hmmm... sound familiar. Seeing all of you homesteaders making pies prompted me to have a go as well. Not a thing here in the Netherlands. But the tomato pie was a hit, and the double crusted (? bottom and top) chicken pot pie sort of (soggy bottom, to low a temp I fear). Like the convenience of blitzing the dough in a food processor! Anyway, pumpkin: again, not a thing here in 🇳🇱. So I'm curious 🤔. See you later!
I’m so happy you gave it a try. Secret to the chicken pot. I don’t do a bottom crust most of the time. If you do get it as close to the heat as you can. High temps. Or just do a tip crust you won’t miss the bottom.
@@modernhomesteadalaska Thanks! Yes, I will play around a bit with it. Maybe even try a blind bake, as with the tomato pie. Although I read that then maybe the top would not adhere well? My problem: so many ideas, so little room in my fridge and freezer left 🤭
Those pies are gorgeous and no comparison to store bought. Store bought pies taste like disappointment after a delicious homemade pie. I think you're on point with your pie game and I appreciate you sharing your family recipes with us and for sharing your tips and tricks. I usually cut strips of foil to put around my pumpkin pie crust but I like the way it looks when you cut it off. Thanks for bringing us along
Thank you! It was born out of frustration and with pumpkin the pie cooks so long it’s not light and flaky on the top. So why not just cut it off.
@@modernhomesteadalaska I'm absolutely cutting it off next time 👍
Delicious !!!
Definitely making for holidays or whenever for cold days 👍👍👍
I’m so happy
Thank you for making the pumpkin pie. My daughter made her own pie for the first time and was so mad at me because her whole life she bragged about my pumpkin pie, only to find out it was pure pack from the can with the recipe from can! She felt deceived lol! I told her that it’s the same thing without all the work, but honestly I’ve never cooked the pumpkin because I thought it was a big deal. I’m definitely going to try it now.
Seriously a little more work and I like todo the pumpkins when I’m doing a bunch of other prep just let the cook. So it ends up not being such a big deal.
@@modernhomesteadalaska Well you sold me on it! I bought my pie pumpkins today, so tomorrow I will give it a try.
I've been watching your videos for awhile now and just subscribed today. Totally enjoy your hard work you put into your videos. . Even though I've been homesteading for over 40 years there is always something new to learn. It'll be a first for me to make these homemade pumpkin pies and I'm looking forward to it. Thanks!
Well welcome! I’m so happy you are here I’m sure you can teach us all a thing or two!
Love your channel. Appreciate all your effort. Blessings and a beautiful fall season to you and your family.
Thank you so much
I love your trivet.
And wow that is a lot of pumpkins. 😂
Lol
Thank you!
I cannot wait to make apple and pumpkin pies this holiday season using your recipes!
Yeah so yummy
I have pressure canned it and I love it as it just mashes so easily! drain the jar and its ready for anything. Excited to try your pie crust recipe. Working on making the switch from store bought to homemade.
Yeah that’s great
I am going to try this crust :) All of the pies look amazing. I do add sugar to my Apple Cider Vinegar= It helps with the fermenting.
Oh yeah add sugar
You can use jack-o'-lantern pumpkins and a little water in pan
You can they are not very flavorful but you are certainly right
Hi Jessica Pumpkin is not my Favorite I love Sweet Potatoe & Apple-Peach., Thanks For Sharing 9-30-2022👍🏽👍🏽
Oh yummy agree!
Those pies look 👀 delicious
Thank you!
That’s how I cut and bake my butternut and acorn squash I put mine in a glass baking pan to hold the water ,because I would spill it taking out 😢looks very good!🥧🍁🥧🍁
That’s an amazing idea!
Jessica! Guess what came today? My Woman Home Companion Cookbook!
Yeah!!! Happy dance!!! Happy dance!!!
@@modernhomesteadalaska what should I try first?
Your pies look so yummy!! Blessings! 💜
Thank you so much
Those pies look amazing! I'm getting pumpkins tomorrow! What variety of pumpkins are you using?
Pie,sweet or baking could be the names they go by
@@modernhomesteadalaska I ended up getting 4. Can't wait to get some puree put up.
Would you believe that im almost 40, and I have never tasted a pumpkin, let alone a pumpkin pie.. maybe its time to give it a go with your reciepe
Oh you might like it. Never hurts to try.
I'm watching this in June and I live in SC so am looking forward to making these pies later in the year. They look very yummy. Question: what is bee pollen tea that you made to enjoy with your slice of pumpkin pie? I'm intrigued.
Oh nice I just add some bee pollen to my hot tea or coffee it’s good for the belly and allergies. You can often find it locally
@@modernhomesteadalaska Thank you.
What kind of pumpkins are they? Maybe you mentioned it and I missed it, sorry about that. I am doing dishes while I watch lol
Lol it’s fine they are called pie or sweet pumpkins depending on where you are at.
so they are not all homemade then.??
………ummmmm……….. call it what ever you want
